Is it possible to use this spell ICLY, i noticed someone in game who had a disclaimer in there bio that said they did use such and that on the event of their death they port away and continue to play as there clone. if it is possible to use this spell in amai for the purpose of continue play after death id like to clarify a few things. 1. do you remember what happened ? 2. Do you keep your possessions ? (yes as amia don't roll with constant character stips i assume) 3. Can someone using this re-enter pvp ? ( i amuse normal pvp rules apply) p.s if i used this spell for valkin i would state a location that the clone is so that is would be possible to obtain it should people want to ilcy find out and retrieve it to capture me. Quote: Clone Necromancy Level: Sor/Wiz 8 Components: V, S, M, F Casting time: 10 minutes Range: 0 ft. Effect: One clone Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No
This spell makes an inert duplicate of a creature. If the original individual has been slain, its soul immediately transfers to the clone, creating a replacement (provided that the soul is free and willing to return). The original’s physical remains, should they still exist, become inert and cannot thereafter be restored to life. If the original creature has reached the end of its natural life span (that is, it has died of natural causes), any cloning attempt fails.
To create the duplicate, you must have a piece of flesh (not hair, nails, scales, or the like) with a volume of at least 1 cubic inch that was taken from the original creature’s living body. The piece of flesh need not be fresh, but it must be kept from rotting. Once the spell is cast, the duplicate must be grown in a laboratory for 2d4 months.
When the clone is completed, the original’s soul enters it immediately, if that creature is already dead. The clone is physically identical with the original and possesses the same personality and memories as the original. In other respects, treat the clone as if it were the original character raised from the dead, including the loss of one level or 2 points of Constitution (if the original was a 1st-level character). If this Constitution adjustment would give the clone a Constitution score of 0, the spell fails. If the original creature has lost levels since the flesh sample was taken and died at a lower level than the clone would otherwise be, the clone is one level below the level at which the original died.
The spell duplicates only the original’s body and mind, not its equipment.
A duplicate can be grown while the original still lives, or when the original soul is unavailable, but the resulting body is merely a soulless bit of inert flesh, which rots if not preserved.
Material Component: The piece of flesh and various laboratory supplies (cost 1,000 gp).
Focus: Special laboratory equipment (cost 500 gp).

Quote: 1. do you remember what happened ?
No. Not as far as I remember, or played at least. You forget up to a certain time of what happened before you died. Quote: 2. Do you keep your possessions ? (yes as amia don't roll with constant character stips i assume)
With the clone spell? Nope. Its even stated there. In the normal case of death do I assume they toss anyone away with full gear, albeit normally it would make sense to take everything, but I assume that is just common courtesy among players. Quote: 3. Can someone using this re-enter pvp ? ( i amuse normal pvp rules apply)
My verdict, as a player, would be to call BS on that and just ignore that person because the Clone spell is a PnP spell, and hence needs first most consent of anyone involved, and secondly how would they get back to the PvP place so quickly? All their possessions are still on the original corpse after all, including the portal wand. So there is no way for them to get back, and if they do in full gear, double BS on it. And for the spell, my gut feelings screams no you can't, but I'd wait for a DM to answer that in particular.

Btw. Kelemvorites will execute you for using Clone to prolong your life. Anyways. Only DM:s can give a meaningful answer to that.

I am guessing Talia refers to my character Mycralzues as I wrote disclaimer to her bio about Clone spell and its usage. Bio says "If she is defeated in PvP I play as she is knocked unconscious as I don't want to avoid being taken captive with PnP ability or spell."
Original reason why I started to use Clone PnP spell was Kelemvorites burned Mycralzues for crimes of necromancy and palemastery. (Odd folks.) I was waiting in Entry as I didn't know would Myc be permanently killed or not, and then Terra_777 came in. I explained the situation as she asked and she told me I could use Clone spell to get Myc back to life. Seems more logical, as Myc specializes in Necromancy (even school-wise), to use some nercomantic spell to stay alive than say some miraculous happened and she is still alive.

Like Sushi said: Clone spell requires a lab and a lot of other preparations which you should have to do ICly, and -have to have- ICly. It doesn't just happen over night. Using a PnP spell requires more than 1 persons permission. Using such a spell really should have to have DM sanction.
Secondly, you don't get to decide whether your character was knocked out/killed. Thats the decision of who PvP'd you. I understand concerns, but a PC can not perma you without your permission and if they do something that is suspect of not being able to recover from you need to report it to a DM with screenshots, because they didn't give you a viable out and thats a no-no.

I've thought about how this spell would work IC some time ago, so I'll take a stab at it. TaliaZalinNalla wrote: 1. do you remember what happened ? 2. Do you keep your possessions ? (yes as amia don't roll with constant character stips i assume) 3. Can someone using this re-enter pvp ? ( i amuse normal pvp rules apply) 1. You "remember" everything up to the point the clone was created. The clone your create is the exact copy of you, physical memory and all, at the exact moment it begins growing. Your soul transfers, but the "soul" doesn't remember, IIRC. But I don't know, it would likely be a DM call, because when a "soul" goes to Fugue, it remembers what happened to get it there....meh. 2. If you're going to use the spell, I'd say man up and accept that the things you had on you are gone. I don't mean your whole inventory, but the things you were actually wearing at the time of your death. Armor, weapon, rings, etc, etc. The rest I guess you could just say where in a bank somewhere, I guess. But I guess if someone is watching your body and the items it has on it, you could always return to the spot where you died and your body and recollect them. Or they could bring your body to you. The items on it don't become inert, it just no longer houses your soul. 3. If someone uses this spell, ports away, and shows up again to fight, PvP re-initiation or not, I will call HAX. Even though it'd be legitimized by lore, it's still just as bad as someone getting killed in PvP, hitting respawn, buffing, and charging back. I'd much rather think it would be used in a wise manner. It costs a good deal of time and effort to create a clone. A smart mage would pretty much have it as a safety net in case their body ever falls down a into a chasm or into the abyss and can't be retrieved. Not that that really means anything outside of a DM event Amia nowadays, but whatever.

Well...
Using a clone spell is, BY FAR, better than making up that you miraculously survived or was returned by divine intervention.

Big difference between 'die' and 'permakilled'. They choose whether you die, you choose whether it's permanent. The former is what Tormak was addressing.

What Tormak, aka Monsieur Non, meant was that the person who defeats you in PvP decides whether they actually killed you or just knocked you unconscious. In the latter case, it wouldn't matter if you had a Clone somewhere, you're not dead and your soul stays in your body. They could still drag you off somewhere and imprison and you'd just wake up in a jail cell with a headache. In that case, your Clone spell wouldn't save you from captivity. Edit: dammit yurrel

So am i hearing a "yes" this could be used as a legitimate way of suggesting why your character is alive again so long as pc involved agree to such ?

ok, so what is the official word then.
can it be used as a way of having your character back to play after you have been pvp or killed "instead of just being instantly alive" so long as all players involved agree ?
or do we need a dm to invoke such.

Tormak said it already as did Yurell and Dwagin.
Such spells require a long build up RP wise, DM involvement, hell I'd even go so far as to say it requires a written request so that the entire team can deliberate on it. Even then I do not think that Clone spell and its inherent Get out of Jail Free card is suitable for the online experience beyond anything than a DM event with a few weeks (months) of preparation.

There are other spells that can be done to make up for the death and dying parts with a "better" rp reason than "someone found my corpse", and so on.
One such spell is a death pact, for instance. I know several people have used it ICly in the past. I'd suggest that if you want your char to cast such things and use them, you do a bit of research ICly first and maybe experiment with it. Get some proper RP behind it, and maybe a DM takes interrest and glances at what you are up to.
Worst case scenario you get told you can't do it. Anything else, You generate RP for other people AND have fun doing it.

No i totally agree, if i was able to use such a spell at all within amia i would defiantly research it icly and rP the entire thing, just take a look at my character thread for Valkin, i have RP every step of his development, atm i am rp each ritual for the pale master class and posting RP story's for such. I would not miss the chance to rp development or research of a spell i live for it Very_Svensk wrote: MoshingChris wrote: No its not.

I'd say, Go for it TaliaZalia I agree, i think it should be ok so long as other players are fine with it, however i can see some problems arising from its use as sometimes characters not present and unable to give their opinion on some kind of ongoing event would be left out of the decisions making process and course conflict. So if Tormy says Not to do it without consulting him or another dm first i can go with that, i might even RP its research then keep it as a play card from some kind of event at a future date

To Tormak; And the DM Team as a whole.
Could we get a rule or Clarification why we should/should't use it, or why it's frowned, or Encouraged upon?

When tormak responds; he's responding to the discussion and, Probably, (As i view it), To Dark Immolation.
You might view it otherwise?
Edit - Yep, I think it's looks like he's responding to Dark immolation.

What the peanut gallery has to say about a PnP spell is pretty much irrelevant. I'll stick with Tormaks 'no'.

I am with Tormak and Talia on this. Clone turns vaque IC mortality but OOC immortality into full 100% IC immortality. Thats sounds a lot like something that requires an RP request.

You can die, in DM events or if you do something really, really stupid and a DM watching over. Did that character that took a bath in acid died?

Yes; Alamut was the Acid bathing guy, and i was the Guy who bathed him - He, Err... Survived. 'Ish' Depends on what Alamut has to say about the subject. On TopicTo, Finally, break free of the immersion breaking OCC immortality, I think that this is a GOOD Step in the right direction.

A better step in the right direction would be if dying and resurection was more closely related to being a traumatic event. I can not with the best of my imagination believe that dying and being raised is anything but highly uncomfortable and unsettling.
Also, in PvM, I do prefer the was knocked out/managed to crawl away solution. It's not immersion breaking. It's something else in PvP though.
As for the cloning spell, it may serve it's purpouse once, but when repeated it is just as immersion breaking as hitting the respawn button.
Addendum: If there is something that annoys me, it is the IC belief that everyone who dies can be resurected. Players often fail to take into account all the non-adventurers who do not recover from unfortunate deaths, even when their characters (unless they are lunatics) wouldn't.

Sure, but only reason now why no none of my characters won't permanently die is OOC reason. Just like every single character on Amia (exclude Velsharoonites). I was actually worried what explanation I would make for my other characters if they are killed. Now I don't. I just say "They cannot die permanently".

You want IC immortality, work for years to try for lichdom. You want to use clone, try to pay DCs out the but, come up with an RP that will knock the DMs socks off, and make a request. Otherwise: TormakSaber wrote: No.

I said I am not worried about thinking explanations for miraculous revivals so I don't even try to explain them. They just happen for no reason.

When you can't think of an IC explanation..or be bothered with explaining Death... it is if it has no value. What purpose then is there to conflict without sacrifice? Amia isn't counterstrike.
