| Post subject: | Job system questions |
I searched briefly but didn't find a thread dedicated to general questions about the job system. My apologies if there is one. I'm confused about some of the mechanics for jobs. In particular, the use of the sundial. I have a rank in the astronomer job, empty pages, and I located the sundial, but I'm unable to produce Sun Charts. When I attempt to use the sundial, I get the message 'Error:this object has not been initialised.' What am I doing wrong? Thanks to any of you job experts who can steer this noob in the right direction! |

I think you need to use your job log on the Sundial. Correct if I'm wrong tho. //Edit: Spelling misstake |

But, when I used the job log on the sundial, it only gave the option to observe, which isnt a requirement for producing Sun Charts according to the job/resource matrix. Even trying that, I got the message 'There is nothing here to observe.' Any other suggestions? |

Well aside from that nothing really comes to my mind, as you can't take the sundial with you to the table to research it... Asking in game from someone usually helps too. |

Checked the job pages. I've no idea. Are you sure the Sun Dial is an astronomy thing? I know there's stuff you can look at at a researcher's desk, and you can use a telescope, but I don't recall sundials. |

Was the sundial colored with an orange name? All job system things have orange names. If it has the same name but it's not orange.. it's not implemented to the job system.. One example: Inventors need gargoyle skulls. You can collect gargoyle skulls from something outside the job system like a shop in the grove. These skulls will not work for the job system stuff at all. |

The sundial has an orange tag, so I assume its for the job system. As for producing Sun Charts, here are the requirements listed in the job/resource matrix: Job:Astronomer Produced by:sundial Ingredients:empty pages Any thoughts? |

Also make sure you're using the dial during game-time daylight hours. My only thought would be that it's like the telescope. You can only use that during night hours, so it may be that you can only use the sundial during daylight hours. Just a thought. |

linlan wrote: try sending a PM to Disco ? I wouldn't suggest this, as it's not so important for him to bother with. He did say to PM him only when absolutely necessary. |

From what source are your empty pages? Papyrus? Animal skin? etc? there's about 4 types of empty pages and Disco's mentioned before that not all of them were hooked up right because some of the papers were later additions. |

I would LOVE it if the dialog on the NPC trainers saying "Tell about this job thing" actually gave you a description of the job being taught, what it does, and how to do it. This guessing game is a bloody nightmare, and is a very good reason as to why I never really bothered with the Job system beyond testing it out a bit. |

Its an empty page purchased from a merchant, so I don't know how it was produced, although I've used the same ones in a researcher's desk. But, I'll try using a different page. Thanks for the suggestion and the info regarding empty pages! |

With the archaeologist job, it seems like certain dig sites/sarcophagi always produce the same resources (for example, one sarcophagus has yielded an 'obscure parchment' on four successive occassions, while a certain dig location always produces a 'curious artifact'). Can anyone confirm if this the case? |

How long would it take to reach level 30 with jobs alone? |

Depends on job. Why does it matter? Hint: It doesn't |
