Two controversial topics in one.
In the beginnings of a small band of Kobold Merci nary assassins, that I am calling the "Ink Jackals" I want them to dwell on the darker, more twisted rivers of life.
Drugs, as the ones in the Book of Vile Darkness.
And body modification/mutilation.
Such as Limb grafts, stretching/re-breaking of body parts, Ritual scarring and abnormal piercings and jewelry.
Discuss its relevance in Amia?

Can you quote the effects of the drugs from BoVD that you mentioned? I'm interested in their properties, but I don't have access to the books.
The concept is gross, ofcourse, but I think the group might have a place in Amia as an antagonist for the overwhelmingly good/neutral population, not just by being an assassin's group, but also by challenging both medieval and modern moral and ethical considerations.
It is a bit too general for any further comment, from my end, though:
You say this behavior is ritualistic, but what is it's purpose? are they serving some demonic or godlike entity? do they serve some inanimate object or a creature? alternatively, is the ritual process completely independent of any servitude and is in place as the group's way to only accept the most vile and vicious killers, and to ensure loyalty? are group members coerced into such behavior, or are they all universally masochistic? or is it simple insanity?
These things will have bearing on their relevance to Amia, I feel, because each has it's own myriad of RP possibilities which may be more or less easy to pursue/more or less incorporating of other groups and players who RP outside of the group.

Quote: Discuss its relevance in Amia? How is any of this "controversial" in a land where you can raise people as undead or use human(oid) remains to build vile aberrations of nature? Loviatarans often scar/shred their bodies ritualistically. It's often said that clerics of Loviatar sometimes draw their own blood as they cast as well. In addition, there are a few classes based upon body modification, Palemaster and Dragon Disciple being great examples. Drugs, well do drugs even play into a fantasy world? I'm sure there's somewhere where people are addicted to opioids, but I'll be damned if there aren't more addicting, and arguably more interesting substances to become addicted to. Magic potions, ingredients, salves, spells[My own mage is addicted to casting a certain spell that he's hidden pretty well]. A drug can be defined by "anything taken into the human body other than food that modifies the body's condition." And there's a hell of a lot more things than "drugs" that fit that description in FR than in our world. So my belief of their relevance is that, yes, they are relevant, because they happen in so many different ways. But I believe they both carry a different sort of connotation in FR than they stigma they do in our own realm. I mean, you cringe if you hear there was a meth lab discovered down the street down from you. But people in FR deal with hearing the guy next door was a necromancer raising dead puppies to pickpocket orphans.

Alright! I didn't expect such a positive response! About the Ink Jackals: They cover themselves in ink or tar, both their skin and their clothing, to be completely black. They never use their birth given name, simply calling themselves "Ink Jackal brother, or Ink Jackal Sister." (Or shortening of such, like Jackal sister or ink brother) This way, they look alike, and sound alike, which helps in them keeping their anonymous nature. They are not outwardly evil, (LE or NE) As they are mercenaries for hire for anyone regardless of alignment or creed. I want this to be like a cult, if anyone has a suggestion for a god or goddess that fits them, PM me and I will edit it in here. (Thats what I have so far) Drugs, (taken directly from my BOVD) Agony, ("Liquid Pain") [lasts 1d10+50 minutes] Ingested, addiction extreme; This thick, reddish liquid is the distilled essence of pain, captured using special spells or items. [Side effects; Feelings of intense pleasure last for 1d4 hours] Baccaran, [lasts for 1d10+15 minutes] Ingested, addiction low; This pasty substance is dried and kept as a powder or sometimes left as a paste. The ingredients are difficult to obtain and numerous. [Side effects; mild hallucinations for 2d4 hours] Devilweed,[lasts 1d3 hours] Inhaled, addiction low; Leaves from the wyssin plant are dried and rolled into a tobacco like substance and smoked.[Side effects; a creature under the effects of devilweed is easily confused and acts skittish] Luhix,[lasts 1d2 hours] Injury, addiction viscious; Powdered stalks of plants that only grow in the Abyss, luhix is normally sprinkled onto a bleeding, self-inflicted wound. Then the wound is sealed either magically, or with a tightly wound bandage. [Side effects; For the first minute of application, the user feels intense pain. During the time that the secondary effect is in effect, the user is immune to pain] Mordayn vapor, ("Dreammist") [lasts d20+10 minutes] Inhaled, addiction high; Made of roughly ground leaves of a rare herb found in deep forests, modayn is so potent that it is taken by steeping a small amount in hot water, and then inhaling the vapors of the resultant tea. Raw mordayn powder and mordayn-tainted water are deadly poison; taking the powder directly or drinking the water produces an immediate overdose. [2d10 con damage] Dreammist is renowned for the beautiful visions it induces and the deadly peril of its sinister embrace. [Side effects; The visions of a dreammist user are incredibly beautiful and poignant. His normal life seems drab and futile in comparison, and he aches to experience the transcendent beauty of his drug-induced dreams again.] Mushroom powder,[lasts 1 hour] ingested, addiction medium; Taken from a rare blue mushroom, this poder must be inhaled. It is popular among arcane spellcasters. [Side effects, This is a mild hallucinogen] Redflower leaves,[lasts 10 minutes] ingested, addiction low; These crushed leaves of a tiny red bog flower are known for their ability to improve hand-to-eye coordination. Sannish, [lasts 1d4 hours] ingested, addiction medium; A bluish liquid distilled frm the wolves' milk and a powdered desert plant. this concoction is very popular. Addicts are easily found by the permanent blue stains on their lips. [Side effects, Euphoria] Terran brandy, [lasts 1d20+20 minutes] ingested, addiction low; A potent alcohol, this magical drink is favored by heartless spellcasters of all types. This green liquid is distilled from the essence of dying fey. Vodare, [lasts 1d4 hours] ingested, addiction high; An extremely bitter brown powder, vodare is usually mixed with honeyed water or sweet wine to dilute the taste. it is made from the crushed petals of a flower that growls only on the graves of those who dedicated their lives to the worship of Rallaster. [Side effects; Mild Euphoria and fierce confidence] (Jeez wow, I hope you can appreciate how long that took to write )

Before you go crazy on the BoVD drugs thing it may be worth looking around IC to see if these kinds of things already exist on Amia.

Alchemy, it boils down to that really.
I seriously doubt the Dev's want to add in all these ingredients to the job system. That would mean they actually need to add in all the drugs themselves, and all the benefits/faults of those drugs.
It would take a huge amount of scripting to add all this in...
Now if they did just add the ingredients, which wouldn't be too hard. Alchemists like Snarl could go about and collect them, then RP making the drugs, then sell them to characters. Amia could have its own underground drug market!

How about some Skooma?
I think there's still illegal pipe herbs out there but your idea sounds way more in-depth.

Agony is a drug whose use is highly encouraged in the clergy of Loviatar, so it already fits pretty well with FR lore. It's actually one of the requirements for the Maiden of Pain prestige class in the Player's Guide to Faerun. That being said, the other drugs should fit right in as well for those characters of a more deviant streak. As for body mutilation, limb-grafts and such, I'm under the impression that the undead arm on a Pale Master is an undead graft anyway. Precedence is already kind of set in that department, I think.

Alright everyone, I will work on the specification for this little cult over the next few days.
I will post an official recruitment poster of some sort within the next week for any who wish to join in on the mercenary/drug trade!

SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND!!!
If you want to make that little gang of crack head lizards go mad then they need to have something to be addicted too... Personally I'd call shenanigans on a PC that assumes it has a regular supply of illicit drugs without finding one.

Disco changed that rule a few weeks ago. PG-13 is not our player base, as the majority of people playing are 20+
