Why do people go to great lengths to rebuild their characters into a completely different type of thing that is not what they initially were?

I don't get it.

Why is this topic little more than a veiled attempt to flame and troll people? you have one post to show me why itt isn't and to not lock it, pretty much.

Because sometimes, a character starts one way, and through seeing the world, and the effects of others on them, changes... Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

I guess the easiest way to find out is to read some of the rebuild requests and see what people give as their reasons in them.

I know this was a rhetorical question asked perhaps to incite some controversy, but I like practical advice.

I'll be rebuilding one of mine simply because she was a Palemistress who got caught by the Kellies and 're-educated'.....even though in playing terms it's a pity she got caught and 'turned', but, them's the breaks. 'It's all about the r/p, man'.

There's several reasons people give. Some are meh, but there is one which is awesome: ECL30 isn't static, or the end of a character's growth.

yup same reason for me, level 30 is mechanically the ceiling but you still grow through rp and your character can show that. thats why i dont like servers that dotn allow rebuilds.

There's four types of rebuilds:

- My brain farted when I created the build (or it was a purposeful gimped RP build)
- My character and his RP have changed in a drastic way
- My character got beaten, I want more power *home improvement grunt*
- My five levels in some class were always RPed that way, I want the new powers of the newly beefed class and their shiny toys! (works the other way around too when something gets nerfed)

Why do you share your annoyance, anyway? Only valid reasons go through the request process anyway, unless Tormak's going "fuck, do what you want since no one else cares anyway". ;)

Personally I have always found the stat changes far more interesting then the class changes.
Since there are rarely class changes that are "Completely different" I think that it is far more telling when "purposeful" stat changes occur.
I do have a love of logically RP relevant stat changes (such as effects of aging or lasting injury).
