I stumbled upon this checking the forums, and it rose few questions, like what is it's breath weapon and immunity elemental? anything else to know about it?

Negative and negative.

so if a SDD goes against undead, he only heals them? :D
which also reminded more general question: is there limits to the breath weapon usage?

Negative damage doesn't heal undead by default. The only reason Negative Energy Ray and such do heal them is because they're scripted to. Ditto in reverse for the Cure Wound spells, actually... the only reason they hurt undead is because they're specifically scripted to.

So, to answer your question, the negative breath will likely damage undead just the same!

A DD can only use their breath weapon every turn, or so? I forget the actual number. It's unlimited otherwise, though.

so basicly 1 minute cooldown or so?
and how undead can get damaged by negative energy? O.O are you kidding me?

Its the same reason positive damage can harm Primes, even though we're on the positive material plane.

You might find that most, if not all undead, have immunities to negative energy.
The breath weapon takes forever to activate though. I'm not sure if it flatfoots you while you stand there too.

The breath weapon has unlimited uses. There is a 5 minute cool down in between.

How many seconds does it take to fire off a breath?
Are you flatfooted during that duration?

I don't think it'll be broken if the 5 min timer was reduced or removed actually.

You're looking and 10d10 damage a round, reflex save for half for a 10 RDD. thats on avg 55 damage a round or 27.5 on a successful save.
Its hardly broken when you take into consideration that with 4-5 attacks a round, an RDD is usually going to end up doing more damage.

Mind, this is just my personal opinion and suggestion. I just think the 5 min timer is awfully long.

Its not all about mechanics. It makes no sense for dragon disciples to run around constantly blowing out streams of negative energy like a flame thrower.

If I were one I'd use it as much as I could.

I'm pretty sure that full blooded dragons only get to use their breath weapons once every several hours. They must wait for their little elemental organ thing (It has a name, but I don't remember it) to recharge. Once every five minutes is more often than lore should dictate, I think.

true dragons can breathe with a cooldown of 1d4 rounds.

Upon downloading and reading Draconomicon, I guess you're right. The novel I read took certain liberties with the ability, I suppose. I stand corrected!

You're not a true dragon.

Right. I was (wrongly) comparing the length of downtime between breath weapons of true dragons compared to RDDs.

so does anyone have firsthand experience of the breath affecting undead with damage? if it's so, I can feel a "but" in there...

As Bob said, 10d10 is really not that much damage. Its not as if it can be maximized like spells can and the DC is always going to be crappy with respect to amian critters and even mages.

With regards to Tormak, wyrmling form dragons can breathe once every round and the damage far outstrips what the DD can do. Probably with a way better save too. In lieu of that, I'd reduce the cool down to 1 minute.

Once again, shifters and wyrmlings =/= dragon disciple.

True dragons cant breath every round either so the point is mute. Since there's no congruity with PnP mechanics (shifters = every round; true dragons = every 1d4 rounds), cool down could reasonably be shortened.

Author:  TormakSaber [ Tue, May 17 2011, 2:44 AM ]
Post subject:  Re: shadow dragon disciple?

I see no reason to, on fluff grounds.

Shifters in wyrmling form, the breath attack is their mechanic. That's why it's doable more often. If you were going to try to annoy me on inconsistencies you should have argued that NWN doesn't enforce the rounds thing period, and that all breath weapons can be used on a per round basis.

But on RDD, we do, because RDDs are not true dragons, therefore the cannot breathe as often as True Dragons, be that 1d4+1 rounds, or every round. I mean hell, in base NWN, you only get the breath once per day, and it does a pittance of damage and a terrible DC. Believe it or not, that's how it works in PnP as well, which means the five minute cooldown you have is already very generous with regards to the Disciple/True Dragon relationship.

could someone stay in topic and help me with my questions?

AFAIK anything creature and enemy wise with the racial "Undead" will automatically absorb all negative energy and get murderated upon being hit with healing spells.

Quick question here, as it relates to all dragon disciples: Does Amia have alignment restrictions on the different dragon types?
As in, for SDD, do you -have- to be CE or would NE/CE/CN be fine?
Basically, is the one-step rule used for XDDs as well?

Author:  TormakSaber [ Tue, May 17 2011, 22:04 PM ]
Post subject:  Re: shadow dragon disciple?

Given that it is DMs who change your color, you would be hard pressed to be out of alignment.

Okay, cool. Wasn't sure on the one-step rule's applicability to XDDs.

Woo! Thanks :D

It does not "technically" exist, but since Dragons are paragons of their alignment, and dragon discple involves a conscious ritualized effort to bring out that blood, you're going to be shoved towards that alignment and begin displaying traits, even if you weren't in the beginning.

*nod*

That is what I thought, given the complexity and such of what a DD is doing, after all.
