I put this in general discussion because I was not sure if putting it in the request would be right as I am not really requesting an item more then trying to get some idea the thought process on what an item costs beyond what is on the sidebar and forums.... Let's say Krugan, who is working very hard on becoming a master shadow dancer and instructor wants to create a device that would allow him to change into one of the two creatures that can penetrate the HIPS..X/times a day (say 1-3 times) for the normal limit of the polymorph self spell. The RP would be he goes about studying the creatures, the spells, talking to wizards that have capability to do that, shifters, familiars that are the little dragons..etc... What would the normal DC cost be on something like that? Are there any limits like for instance I know you might as well not bother with Perma Haste items.... My motivation in this is two fold.... 1) I'd like to know for my own self. 2) I have had three new players IG asking me questions and I am still kinda wet behind the ears myself and don't want to tell them wrong information or send them along like I don't care if they get the right information. It happened last night with Erika (player name is Neecra i think). She was having a hard time in the Quags, didn't know about the malarites and while Krugan was showing her the way and the place she was asking me OOCly about how the server was, what were the rules, things like that. I directed her to the forums and the side bar and wiki....but I know from my own experiences that sometimes, you get very lost trying to use these things and you can feel very uneasy asking on the forums out of fear of getting pounced on or posting something stupid or in the wrong place. Now...before anyone gets a bit twisted about that...I am NOT SAYING I have ever been pounced on here...though i have felt uneasy about some things and felt stupid when posting things in teh wrong spot....kinda like this may be... And I am an old fart in real life and an ancient NwN dude....I can only imagine how a new face to the world of NwN and the world of online gaming might feel. |

The basic rule is make your request, support it with as much RP as you can (Remember IG RP counts for a lot in this) and see what we DM's have to say. The worst thing we'll say is no, after all. As for your example, well... it really all depends on more details than you've given. Caster Level, the exact shapes (Though I'm assuming you mean Umberhulk and Pseudodragon) so on and so forth. Considering I'm pretty sure it would be a custom scripted widget, you're probably looking in the neighborhood of 20 + whatever Sune or the scripter decides to charge. But that's a really rough guess and could be swung to something way higher. |

You can get items with Polymorph Self spell already, to turn into an Umberhulk. It's called Cape of Illusion, something like that. If you have UMD, a scribed scroll of Shapechange would sort the Dragon part out, no? DC cost? Zero! |

The potions are random though, no choice on the form. |

I have UMD...so there are other things that can be done like wands, scrolls and such...and currently that is how Krugan does this...but there are other items that can't be easily done and I am thinking to figure costs on those. What I am thinking about is the rough idea of cost to get an item that does a spell like ability or something XX times a day.... Umber Hulk and/or Pseudodragon are examples here.... Another one I thought of is something that allows for a "disguse" so many times a day so that you can become someone else....making it very hard for people to identify you.... I also realize these are things that would need to be handed out uber rarely due to potential abuse. One thought that came to mind is something like the "1000 faces" thing for Shifters where they can "become" other things...except in this case...its simply a "disguise kit" that changes appearance only...gives no real abilities save those you have already. You can sorta do it with the hair styleist and the tattoo artist in Djedet...but this would be more of a portable one you can do yourself...and then you can add to the list of "disguises"...you could pick say...1 or 2 by default and then as your skill goes up or something...maybe so many levels...you can become more skilled and therefore, have wider options. I would love to see this added as a reason to go beyond 6 SD levels...Shadow Dancers are by nature people that are shady...even going beyond the normal rogue ability to touch the Shadow. Being able to "cloak oneself in the illusion" of being someone else seems to fit to me...but I have no idea how hard that would be to script and the team seems overwhelmed already. Just kinda sad when I hear how those that have dedicated themselves to becoming "teachers" for SDs stand around doing little...but waiting for students...only to find none come because the gains for going past 6 SD are so outweighed by taking the same levels in another class. And while I would love for Krugan to have this...if he never...or even if I as a player never..get it...I do feel there are others far more deserving that should. Mostly for this thread, I was wondering what the cost for such an item would be and I hope to help the newer players out with what DCs are and such....and give them reasons to RP more. Last note...I have found many don't understand you can recommend people with the DC Tool...I learned it IG mysefl not that long ago...and have used it now. I had to mention I wished I could recommend others for DCs because the DMs miss so much due to being limited to being one place at a time and someone says..."You can, use the DC tool" and I was..what? Anyway...thanks everyone for input...I hope Krugan can enjoy some RP with everyone...heh.. |
