Well folks, it's that time again. Time for old Lally to do something she hates doing. Call out a player who's officially lost his or her mind and is messing with our playerbase. The player known as Tiamatian has taken advantage of the Master Server issue and (as some of you may very well know, since a TON of you were kind enough to report him) has sat idle in the entryway impersonating a certain DM. Well, after discovering (rather easily) who the player was, he gave us this demand. Marriedman wrote: i have 2 very open suggestions that will resolve this right here and now but i wont lie you wont like them. 1. you ban both Tormak and yossarin in all aspects (players, ip, cd-key) and disallow them any future use of the server even under new versions of these items. 2. you counterbalance them by adding me as a dm that cannot be removed or banned so long as they remain on the server in any form. now If you think of a solution that we can both be happy with i am more than willing to hear it. i am not an unreasonable person, but i learned early on that when i turn the other cheek i just get punched twice. Now of course he was refused considering we're more of a benevolent dictatorship up here than a classic dictatorship. Unfortunately after the refusal he took it upon himself to threaten to take us down BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY which has translated to a (badly) attempted hack, and the actual bit that prompted this posting. The bit being...seems like he's now hopping on various player accounts as well as the DM team. This is the part I don't like. He's messing with your stuff. SO! What to do? Simple. If one of your pals is acting funny, it's probably not your pal. Let us know and we'll take care of it. Also, said pal will likely be idling in the entryway. Sorry to have to do this guys. Messing with us is not the issue. Messing with you is rather personal. Thanks again! Much Love, Lally. |

Ed: Mmm... I am informed that it's unprofessional to troll. They are right, I guess. Anyways, short and simple: You couldn't really do anything with my account if you wanted to. Using Linux unfortunately doesn't qualify you as a hacker. But I draw quite a line at messing with the players. |

I've nothing disparaging to say about the player. I'm just disappointed it got to this point. |

Got to say, demanding a promotion to DM as a reward for violating the ideas that are the purpose of having DMs... that's a pretty ballsy maneuver. Myself, I'm not sure I'd have had the guts to be that shameless, even if I did have the skills to be a l33t haxx0r. |

Well, I don't want to bash the player in this thread. I'm not bothered about his attempts at us, but his attempts at you made it a bit more important to talk about. I know my first post was dripping with a certain level of sarcasm, but that's all I'll allow myself Just watch your PC's and watch out for each other like I know you already do |

Purely unacceptable on his part. You don't become a DM by misbehaving, you become a DM by being the positive example to be followed. |

Holy crap, okay this dude seriously needs to get a life or something. I may have my issues with certain things, but to sit their and attempt a server hak and also threaten to enter other players accounts is pretty pathetic. Also Tormak just a question for you, was that you logging in and out alot last night player side? Because after reading this yea I am a tad bit concerned. |

Rest assured that the odds of this individual being able to enter the DM client are nil. Because of the Master Server being down, he's able to use DM's accounts to enter the player side of the server just as we do when we want to play one of our characters. However, that's about as far as he can go. So, don't fret, just keep your heads on a swivel and report anything that you may think is "odd behavior" from any of your friends. |

No, no. He can't log into your characters unless he has your exact CD keys - obviously next to impossible. That's why Torin looked like this the other night, rather than his usual self: ![]() He has to make a new character in order to stay on the account and not get booted. It's just like what happens when you get new CD keys. He'd have to get his CD keys validated on your account, and I think our DMs are more than competent enough to figure out if it's him, with increased security these days! |

As is the DM client. There's nothing you folks need to worry about; I like to think I'm distinct enough that most of you would be aware as to if it's me or not. The DMs certainly know. |

O, and btw, a note to any would be "Hackers": When you log into my account, and you're trying to convince the DMs that you're me (meanwhile they've texted me IRL and already verified that it's not me and are basically play games with you...), don't send tells to players saying that "I'm not Tormak, I'm someone else." Sort of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? |

O, he did wise up the second time. Sort of. The next time he told them it was me, but he'd forgotten the DM password, and could they please help him get it back? As if the players know the DM password, or that Tormak would ask a player for that sort of thing... |

So with the master server down, banning a set of CD keys don't work no more? Seems to me that if it does, you can see how persistant (or rich) he is by banning all the various keys he's using. Also I'm guessing you guys already fetched his IP on several occations, so I say just report him to his isp. If they have a ToS, I can bet you he's violated it by preforming illegal and malevolant acts in computer fraud and abuse, as well as attempting to defraud several players and DM's. Even if he's made sad sad attempts at the above, they're still crimes and they are still illegal. And while it probably won't get him in any "real" trouble.. I bet loosing his ISP or having his parents find out is probably worse for him. This dude's Aquaman in Sahara. |
