| Post subject: | Question about KC auras |
First, I would like to say the implementions did on KC's prestige class are great !
I also have noticed that the sword barricade is actually a magical protection which means that if the foe has a high spell resistance ( I don't know the DC for it, and I believe you won't inform ^^ ) he could simply avoid that and continue to attack the target. Is it meant to be like that ? In addition, I really think that the Taunt ability could have a shout or something, like a "Rawr" from barbarian's range. I hear nothing when activating it. |

Sword Barricade is a magical shield like Death Armor, Mestil's Acid Sheath, and Elemental Shield. The point of it is to be attacked so it can return damage, it doesn't help you avoid attacks. |

But those with enough (or reasonable) SR can avoid it ? |

my maxed out drow with 39 sr was taking damage from a KC sword aura from a level 15 pc. |

Yeah there are no saves or resistance for those sorts of things. |

Weird... I had a chance to fight a drow once, almost at same lvl (around 15) and the B.S didn't hit him. He claimed about the natural SR related to drows and such. And how about adding a nasty shout on that taunt ability ? |

Unless there was a coding issue, I doubt it should have been SR. SR shouldn't stop the auras as far as I am aware. I think DR will stop the shield from hitting you... maybe? Doubt it could have been enough DR to stop it, though. 15/- might do it... but I don't think any items give that, idk for sure though. |

When I get home, I"ll test it again. And I doubt there would be an item with such resistance avaiable for a lvl 14-15. |

The aura simply creates a damage shield on the friendly players inside it. There are no spell resistance checks or saves if you melee someone with a damage shield running. |

Spell Resistance doesn't apply to damage shields, so, he was wrong there. Damage Resistance, however, does apply to it, so that's likely what was stopping it. I find the forced use of voicesets on barbarian rage kinda tacky and annoying. If you want your PC to go 'rawr' when taunting, feel free to make your PC speak yourself. |

Two things to keep in mind: Your opponent needs to deal damage to you in order to activate a damage shield. If you resist all the damage dealt by a successful hit against you, it won't activate. The damage type is slashing and EffectDamageShield has no variable for damage power, so I suspect it will default to damage_power_normal, which means damage reduction, resistance and immunity all affect the total damage dealt. If I'm wrong, it'll be using damage_power_energy, which ignores damage reduction, but not resistance or immunity. An example of this would be the Mindflayer's concussion blast, which is reduced by immunities and resistances. |

I thank you all for your inputs!
I don't think it's damage resistance, since it was a drow lvl 14-15 and my KC has +10 CHA and 5 lvls on KC. Which means... well, I'm at work and I can't recall how much damage it will deal, but I don't believe he would have that amount of resistance. But again I'll test it later at home so the conclusion I'll post here, since now I'm well-based thanks to your inputs |

Well, I was thinking of something that at least will allow the others around you to actually notice you're risking your own life to help them. I don't know if it's just me, maybe, but I have the feeling others around my toon think as this "oh.. how lucky I'm all the monters suddenly are attacking that poor little AC paladin." I think the blue wave thing is quite faster to be noticed. Perhaps, adjusting to the GreatPigeon's request, the creatures affected by the taunt ability could be tagged in red, perhaps ? |

The creatures affected by entreatment come and attack the user of entreatment I've noticed unless someone immediately gives them an attack of opportunity. |

Oh! Really? Sorry! I guess I've not been devving for a while~ As to how much damage is dealt, it says it's 1d10 + 1 per knight level + 1 per charisma mod per knight level, so at max it should be 1d10+5+5, 11 - 20 damage. |

Two more thing: 1) It would be interesting if you add the divine to the group of decreased resistance that currently sonic/fire/cold/electrical. 2) Also, it attributes 3% D.R. per KC lvl to max 5. It means, the max would be 15%. So basically if my paladin deals 3 sonic damage, we would have: 15 x 3/100=0,45. It means... 3,45 damage to the target. Am I correct about that ? |

Which would be rounded up to 4, yes. No, divine is not being added. Nice try at buffing your paladin, though. Next time please don't make suggestions that are so transparently aimed at buffing your current character.... |

Also, negative energy as well, since we may have evil KC builds. I still believe it would be interesting since they're forms of energy as well. Also, my toon is half-base on CHA as any KC build, so... Also, it says "ordnance support". Isn't supposed to be ordInance support ? |

A Knight Commander's abilities are mundane; they don't use magic from the divine or arcane. A weakness to divine energy itself would make no sense. |

Does decreased resistance work with spells only, or also elemental damage from weapons? I remember trying to test that but couldn't conclude anything (don't remember seeing numbers over 8 for flame weapon scroll - except with crits). |

About the comment to add some kind of text like the suggested "rawl!" when using taunt. I'm highly against it. It will be like the "burp" when drinking something. If a person feels like voicing his enjoyment of a drink or style of taunting let the person RP it by typing, or for those lazy use a text macro. I find it annoying enough that even my most highclass civilised characters burp each time liquid hits their tongue, I'd be horrified if the server wide idea, be it orc or sun-elf, would be to shout the same silly thing. |

PaladinOfSune wrote: Spell Resistance doesn't apply to damage shields, so, he was wrong there. Damage Resistance, however, does apply to it, so that's likely what was stopping it. This depends on the nature of shield (in canon rules that is). Generally if the energy or form of the shield is elemental, positive, negative, or some sort of matter (like swords) it's considered a conjuration form of magic, meaning that fire, negative energy, divine energy, or a sword's blade was 'borrowed' from elsewhere in the multiverse and employed, making the shield itself utterly mundane, magic only empowering it to appear and move. However, concussive force (like that employed by Bigby's lines or magical missiles) and pure magical force/damage (in NWN terms) are affected by SR in canon as the damaging agent is itself, purely magical in origin and evoked from magic itself. A creature with high SR would be stymied by a wall of iron or wall of ice conjured by a wizard, but has a chance to utterly walk through a wall of force if their SR is successful. A blade barrier risks damaging them without challenge, but a prismatic shield risks the creature ignoring it with SR. |

Just as a random insert. Can we please remove the sound effect when someone enters the sword baricade aura (or any other) It's really anything when you're just on the edge of it or your summon keeps moving in and out. Each time that sound again and again. |

Might have to decide if the visual is worth keeping then. Haven't seen the other aura's yet but the sword visual isn't very noticable or anything anyway. Have to add though I hardly ever play with the nwn sound on. Can imagine others finding it annoying though. |

Does the 10% monk speed (depending on the lvl) stack with the Charge aura (i.e. 15% speed from aura plus 10% speed from monk lvl = 25%) ?
How about potion of haste ? Would is stack with the final amount as well ? Thank you. |

They both do, as far as I know. I have a Monk and when she runs with a KC with the speed boost aura on, she gets the boost. I am not 100% sure, but I believe haste stacked as well. The main problem of Barriacade of Swords is that enhancement is bugged on spells, so you can't pierce damage reduction even if you set a spell to +5. This means any enemy with the slightest amount of damage resistance/reduction kills it. For now, anyway. |

That doesn't make any sense at all. It is called "barricade of swords", not "black swords of disaster". It cast one blade barrier per KC level on the user every round until the aura is removed with a caster level of (KC level)^2. |
