Been using the "+connect ((IP address here))" in the NWN shortcut for... ever. Yet last night it decided to randomly stop working for me and is giving me a "Connection error: Could not translate address." error instead. I can still log in to Amia Island fine if I go in normally and find it in my favourites but sadly I don't have Amia Abroad in my favourites and if I try to Direct Connect I just get the same error message as above. Any ideas? |

I get that sometimes too. Just try to connect again, it works for me, at least. |

No joy. Tried it several times just now, and have done so before as well. The truly odd thing is that nothing changed with the shortcut... it's still the same method that has been working just fine for me since I first started playing Amia. |

Could be a corruption issue in the shortcut itself, your NWN, or perhaps the IP software in your OS, I'd say. Though I find the latter two pretty unlikely as you're still able to connect period. Tried deleting the shortcut and making a new one? |

No luck there either. It -is- "C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect ##.###.###.##:####" right? |

Though I doubt it would be the shortcut if going in manually and trying to Direct Connect gives the same error, ya? |

Yeah, it's not the shortcut if it's messing up on manual entry. If you're not experiencing similar problems with other programs, it's pretty likely NWmain.exe got messed up a bit. However, have you installed anything new just prior to this starting up? Or changed any Windows settings that you recall? |

"Just prior"? No. I installed The Void from Steam (amazing game btw) about a week and a half ago, but this problem only -just- cropped up last night. So unless Windows installed something behind my back (entirely possible, yey Vista) then I don't think any settings would have been changed. Next step's probably a wipe and reinstall of NWN I guess. |

Yeah, I don't think that'd cause the issue. I was thinking more along the lines of firewall-type applications, antivirus, or other system protection software/hardware. |

Nope, no changes along those lines. |

That's just bizzar... one windows update and a restart later and it seems to have sorted itself out whatever the problem was. |

Turning it off and on again; always works. |

Could be an issue with pathways the connection to server takes which restarting modem or pc would invariably clear up. Or it could be a team of Gypsy enchantresses who finally got tired of hexing your shortcut and had to just put the chickenbones down. We will never know. |
