I was thinking, it'd be good to compile all of the absolute most FAQ we get for making the game work. Of course we have all the links separately on rules and lore, but one FAQ post i think would be super helpful to new players so they don't have to searching. so help me out. What do you guys think are the most FAQ we get from new players?

Heres an example.

"I downloaded the game from GOG.com, and I cant play!"

"I cant see the custom heads, why not?"

"I cant figure out the haks."

and so on. if we get a bunch of replies, I'll put it all together in one pretty post with answers.

"What's the current year?"

We should have a date thing scripted to match GMT right at the top of the board, 'cause looking for it in the Rules and Lore forum is too hard!

(<3 to all you who've asked it!)

To be fair, the current date in Rules and Lore is different depending on where you look ;)

Well, this one is the right one! I still think it should also be in a very accessible place, like right at the very top of the post. Sort of like this thread, only updated. That second link should be updated, too, or the "Current Year" part just taken out so the only place is in the first link!

"Where in Faerun is Amia / Wiltun, etc." -- with links to the maps

Deity system stuff... ...um... let me think about actual questions on that one.

DEFINITELY job system stuff... in fact, really need better guidelines on that on the forums. I'm not talking about the stuff you're supposed to find out IC like locations, but better explanations of how you work the techie side of it.

I think some locations are perfectly fine to hint at and would be useful. Things like Guldorand is big into lumber. Kohlingen has a magical crafting center. Things that are obvious, you shouldn't have to search for, but that tons of newbz have no idea about.

Questions I recall asking when I was a noob, which had a sort of "O jeez, not this again" sort of vibe in their answers:

1.) Can Amian paladins Detect Evil?
2.) Are there any rules regarding what languages a character can know?

Post subject:  Re: what do you think are the most FAQ?

Oh, and also...

3.) Which deities support paladins / druids?

keep them coming guys :) good questions!

edit: and in case the DM team has any concerns, I promise I will send the whole completed list + answers so you can verify I've written it all out correctly to be Amia kosher.

edit:

Or alternatively: Races, their offspring and why you shouldn't make mother nature cry.

I think I used the latter timeline when we built the current one, but simply deleted the things that weren't relevant to Amia or the world at large. It really isn't relevant what happens in secrecy in some novels, or in a video game. Or maybe I didn't know the other timeline existed. I do have a foggy memory that we were aware of it, though. The intention was to provide a quick and easy frame of reference and settle some inclusion issues of novels, not list every event in the Realms (because there's a very good book doing just that). It probably should have been removed ages ago.

4. What languages can a character know?

Dual and Multicore CPU's:

To prevent crashing and improve performance:

1: Open your nwnplayer.ini file
2: Under Game Options there should be a line that reads Client CPU Affinity = 0
3: Change the value to -2 (alternatively you can set the number to a positive value and manually run NwN on a core different from your OS)
4: Save the file

As a game created before the release of cheap consumer multicore CPU's NwN suffers performance issues when the OS tries to share the game load between Core's. Setting the Affinity to -2 means that NwN will run on a single Core and this should decrease crashes whilst improving game performance.

"Do I have to take off my helm/sheathe my weapon/debuff if asked by a guard PC/NPC? I don't want to lose my buffs/bonuses/spell slots. Can we just pretend that I've done it?"

"Can I log out if I'm put in jail?"

"Is a SDs shadow undead? How do light/darkness work for SDs? Can a SD hide in his own shadow?"

"What are the rules on hostiling people? Under what circumstances can I attack without hostiling [spell casting, attack, pet attack, buffing, etc.]? When do I have to give an 'OOC out', and what is it?"

That's actually a good one. Something on why Necromancy can't be good would be a nice addition to the FAQ.

Yes. Gagis's favourite spells are in the style of Undeath to Death and the like, which are all in the school of Necromancy. He is also arguably the server's angriest Undead-hater. That is why it is so particularry tricky of a question. :)

Haha, wow, I totally spaced on this one. Necromancy isn't bad, but raising undead strictly is. I temporarily forgot that necromancy is both a concept (raising undead) and a specific school of magic.
