I was wondering about rping Play dead for a short moment while in PvP. Like, in the middle of a PvP after a great ruin being casted for example you just fall on the ground playing dead. And what for ? You could just wait until the enemy approaches so you could pierce his belly or you could hope he would just walk over. That would take a lot of RP and common sense but... anyway.

I'd assume so. I'd bet there's either a bluff or perform skill check in there too.

Not practical. I don't think you can use the emote wand in combat and even if you relied on text emotes you'd have to not only do so quickly but your opponent has to react quickly enough. Assuming all that, they'd then have to agree to play along, and even then the tactic probably won't work (in many situations, the attacker would probably do something to make sure their foe is dead).
The main problem is that we have OOC indications as to when someone dies and how beaten they are, it's hard to overlook those and plenty of people won't.

You could probably request a widget that does this so you can't get metaed.

Assuming you could get it to actually work (I can think of maybe one possible way and it's kind of impractical), cue everyone always checking to make sure their opponents are dead when they fall over.
Cue the widget never getting used again.

pity... couldn't it drop you to -5 hp and the put you 0n -1/+1 hp per round until you activate it again, then you jump back up to 50% hp or something?

That would probably be very easy to meta though: your opponent would see you go "[name] uses item's special power!"/see the activation animation, and then drop down, and then they might decide to stab your "corpse" for good measure (which wouldn't be totally unrealistic for a lot of characters, especially paranoid ones). Also you wouldn't be able to reactivate the widget while "dead" I don't think... unless there's something about widgets I've missed, in which cases nevermind.
My best idea for it to actually work would be, activate the widget, then the next hit of x+ damage drops you to the ground and breaks the attack queue of anyone targeting you. I don't know if you could get that sort of contingency script to work anyway, and like I said it might not be worth the effort.

Haha, then Horgul will simply have to confirm his kills by eating their faces.

Can't the penalties of respawning be varied according to the circumstances of the kill? Why not make the widget actually for real kill you, but set the respawn GP and XP cost to zero and have you just stand back up in the same place when you do it, and let you do it immediately (as opposed to having to wait around for 2 or 5 minutes)?
I mean, I'm not sure if that's worth the effort of implementing. But there's already in place a function of the PvP widget that sets your death to being merely "unconscious," which lets you stand back up in the same spot for free after X minutes have passed. If that's acceptable, it's not too far of a leap to add a function that does the same thing but removes the time constraint, and call it "faking it" or something.
(Though it does seem like a lot of work for not much reward to me.)

And unfortunately it would be rather obvious. If someone is being actively attacked, and they suddenly stop to do the "using a widget" motion and then fall over "dead" the person is going to know. And there would still have to be some way to "finish him off" if the person realizes.
And if that same someone isn't being actively attacked, same thing, there would have to be a way to still damage them with say a Fireball AoE or what-have-you. And a lot of people will still realize on an OOC level that the person "took a dive".
It's a neat idea, I'm just not sure how practical/possible it is for NWN.

I'm not necessarily advocating this, just tossing ideas around because the thought is kind of fun. But, would it be possible to script a widget that you could use in advance, putting a contingency into place? "The next time I take X% of my total HP as damage, kill me with these conditions?"

Omg, I totally said the same thing you said. ... I thought I read the thread. Apparently not, though?

It wasn't just you! Glim said the same thing about the widget thing that I did! This is very creepy on an existential level

Well, clearly you're a fellow of considerable intellectual fortitude, to have devised such a genius idea.

I planned making a request for a feign death widget that'd drop me to 3 con on activation (and give +1 fort for every 2 con taken) then 2 turns after using it, popping me back up from the dead with (base con - 3) *Level HP. (The HP you "saved" by feigning death early) and IF killed by instant kill means (Wail etc) ignore the feign death.
That's the mechanics behind what I was going to request since it's the only way I could think of where it wouldn't be obvious that it was done, while still achieving the goal of feigning death. Though returning you when you want to can't be done as to my knowledge, it'd require use of the shout system commands as you can't take any other actions than chat when you're dead OR The normal deathscreen being used for it, but in both cases it'd require alteration of already existing scripts.
Plus it takes care of possible metagaming and such. Using the widget long before you're dying just makes it seem as if you activated some ability, emote wand or anything like that, thus avoiding potential (or accidental) metagaming from your opponents.
Char died off too soon for me to ever make the request, so I figured I'd put up how -I- would do it if I was ever going to request this.

The main problem I see with a feign death widget would be the possible abuse that could accrue from PvE.
That said, I (can't speak for the DM team) would have no problem with a player having their character attempt to play dead in a DM event. Though, I believe it's sadly going to have to stay in that specific realm.
