I made a Drow character and it just starts in the underdark caves? I see 3 choices from where I started, outside to sandy beach, Ultirran or something like that which has a bunch of sharks in the water when I zone over, and the ferry to the troll caves. Is this just part of being drow? I thought there was a city? How do I get there from here? |

Server A isn't the drow hub anymore. Log in on Server B. |

No problem! To elaborate, the starting point for drow on server A has long been something to complain about. I think it was suggested to start them elsewhere several times, but nothing ever happened from it. |

Did i understand this correctly - Edonil went KABOOM and now the drow are building a new one? Wasn't the edonil the center of all the problems with the UD? A remake of ulrinnan, split the already scarse Playeebase apart etc. Please don't start a flamewar because this is a touchy subject. |

Yes, Edonil fell and the majority of the refugees are working on a new home on the abadoned island. To your question if Edonil was not the center of all the problems in the underdark, I would awnser with a clear no. It is a simplification of a variety of factors, and doing so will not get you an awnser to what to do better. The design and theme of a hub, if it has a core of players who through their creativity attract others to join in, the ability to interact with other hubs, the availability of hunting zones and equipment, and so on and so forth all play a role. I agree spreading out small playerbases is generally a bad idea as it can really become a problem for activity. If you had L'Obsul, Drow City and Duergar City you could pretty reliably assume that the duergar city will not get much if any activity. What you however need to take into account is if your hub caters to the rp that your playerbase is after in it's majority. L'Obsul failed in that aspect. You can not assume that if Edonil was never build drow rp would have been steadier or more active, and hence can also not assume that Duergar and Svirvneblin rp would have had it easier either. Argueing with lore that many drow settelments are also very different from the traditional theme makes little sense. You can make a lore accurate settlement of a different nature, but if it will capture the enthusiasm of players is not decided soley on that. Taking myself as an example, Cordor could become one of the best designed hubs with the majority of rp of the server taking place there, and I would still not play there. The current theme is not something I enjoy. It is cool to interact with it at times, but it does not provide the rp I am after. The same goes for DM Plots. I loved the Cordor plot, but it has begun to bore and anoy me due to a few reasons, and hence I no longer really participate in it. Many enjoy it, hence it remains a great server plot. And again the same is true for factions. The new Banites seem like a great new group with fun ideas, but banite rp does not speak to me and hence I do not dedicate my time to it. The Underdark works the same way. And no, I am not saying we should provide everything for everyone. If we tried, we would be on a server that was just an insane undefined mixture. If we however seek an active drow playerbase, which has generally been great for the server, then we will need to provide what is fun for that playerbase. I believe it could be done with a single hub, but neither the new city or L'obsul currently is designed in a manner it could achieve that. |

As a small addition, I also do not think discussing it yet again will help, especially not at this point when so much is open to be decided through in game events. It just artificially inflates the problem. Those who are interrested should just log on and contribute. Over discussing a situation can create a headache to those actually involved and drive interrested players away, especially if it is often discussed by people who do not even really play in the Underdark. |

I'll also add that the new city is the start of the much wider Underdark overhaul that I've begun to plan/work on with Dusty, which takes into account a great many of the concerns and issues voiced about Drow RP / mechanics / the Underdark in general by the players in various threads over past years. |

^ Shameless advertising plug for his DMIng! <3s to Dusty and Glim for their efforts!! If you're interested in Drow RP come play, if you're not going to come play or chip in.... then you have no place to talk. |

Sure i have a place to talk, even though i don't play A drow doesn't mean i don't interact with them. Seems weird that i must have a char to have an opinion. The reason i brought the entire thing up was that i remembered all the topics... all those topics. .. about the issues with drow, the thousands of solutions, the angst, the anger, the hope. I thought to myself - wait, aren't they repeating the mistakes of past? For the consensus of a majority of those many many topics, especially the latest ones, were that there was to much space and to little players to fil them space up with. On other words - i was worried. And i may speak out against things that worry me. It was a bit long reply to the above poster but... oh well. Either way i feel rather reassured that the team have learned from past mistakes and hopefully will help us non - drow players to get into drow rp without rolling.. wait for it. .. drow. I really miss my kobold. |

Dusty / Glim are working on a series of solutions that take into account a series of aspects on how to improve problem areas in regard to underdark roleplay. This is now the 3rd topic within the last two weeks if I recall correctly, and I am pretty sure it was stated in each. It simply becomes tiresome when people not familiar with the subject matter try to rekindle a discussion while not offering solutions that take into account what is really going on or what is being attempted to improve the situation. Regardless of how well intentioned. If one reads through those topics one also quickly gets the wrong impression. There is actually a quite active underdark playerbase in the aussie/us zones. Bah, I know. They should move to europe. |
