The server contains 64 players out of a maximum of 55 players.

The cap is now 65, but the website hasn't been updated.

I wish I knew how to code so I could help. I'd love to figure out how to integrate both servers into one super server that we could use with like a 200 cap or something. Hell if I knew how to code it I'd even chip in money for buying a more powerful server to host it.

By the way if anything like this ever does become and option and just needs funding please dear god say so because I spend all my free time here and would so donate.

That would be bad. This server can barely handle 55+ on one server during any event. Imagine combining them and -then- raising the cap!

Thus the suggestion of purchasing a better machine to host the server. Though we'd all have to chip in.

There's an upper limit to what the software can handle, so I doubt that would work. Not that I mind another toy, of course.

Indeed, it was said that it's a software problem, not hardware. I once raised an idea of asking BioWare to release the source code to meddle with it, yet the idea failed due to being unrealistic.

Also, there's a limit on how big a module can be. That's why there are two servers :3

How is Sinfar pulling off hosting higher player counts I wonder...? Like 92/96.

Same way they pull off custom mounts and individually-designed player housing without a shit ton of lag.

however, horsecocks. So there's balance there.

This is not a problem when modern hard-drives tend to have a terabyte of space. My hak folder is only 15.1GB.

Can we adapt some of what they're doing to make the server run more efficiently and reduce lag? Potentially raising the player count max, and making events easier to run?

It is for people who have bandwidth limits. The haks alone could eat up a month's worth of data.

I already feel angry at your joke of a provider. Bandwidth limits are a cruel joke.

Just my two cents in here...

I build websites for a living so if you guys need help with the coding, I don't mind helping when I can :)

What is this bandwidth limit I hear about? Who here is running nwn from their mobile phone out in the woods?
Surely a hand full of coins can buy all the speed and data you need.

Not it. But I know some people still have limits. Sad though it may be.

Yeah, that 45 second lagspike was me recomputing the module. Other then that, the sever isnt under heavy stress at the moment according to the task-manager and when I sent out a shout there was a few who said they where experiencing lagspikes though.

Mind that you're running a 12-year old program, both on the server and on your own pc... the problem can be about anywhere.

I've been getting lag and disconnected since way before the change. As far as I'm concerned it's the out of date 12 year old game we all love that's doing it.

Sinfar is currently at 132 players logged in out of a 200 total. On one server. On said 12yr old program.

...it's worth finding out 'how', using what haks/overrides/ect they're managing the lag somehow ....

Edit:
Very odd that it shows up as one, on my nwn client, apparently it's (edit:) Four.
http://sinfar.net/blog/ Highest at 78/96 atm.

Careful, they aren't one server, they're three.

However, one of their servers -can- and often does hold 92 people.

They may be running on Linux as well, which seems a tad better to configure nowadays. And no, we're not going that direction.

Windows isnt necessarily worse then linux, they both have their respective bugs. Windows is however plagued by the infamous DM crash which makes it unstable. However, in 4.19h I took a swing at the DM crash and it hasnt crashed since.

As for Linux being able to load external resources, create/destroy areas on the fly, Amia can do that too now. In fact the entire module is dynamically loaded and its possible to deploy updates without having to restart the server.
