So, just curious whether or not it's a possibility, mechanically speaking to edit a weapon, such as a club to have a the appearance of a shield? I'd love the idea of having a shield on each arm, and using them offensively, or just for the possibility of getting around the fact that shields are always on the left arm? Has this come up before? |

Mechanically speaking shields and weapons does not follow the same routines in their models. Weapons has three "layer" appearance which determines what models they use. Shields are basic models, they use a single layer appearance with a set model for the entire thing. It would probably be possible to make a shield into a weapon appearance but it would missalign and break when other layers interfere with it. Thus you'd get a bag because when nwn fails at a model, it turns into a bag. |

Could it not work like Monkey Grip or do I not understand how that Skin works? |

Monkey grip works by exploiting model size and polymorph. It doesn't change the model or anything for the shield. |

There really isn't a better way to script monkey grip then? That just seems so hard on the player. |

I'd love to see the reverse. Shields that looks like weapons |

I'd hate to see that parrying dagger start giving 7AC. Parrying daggers (or any other weapon for that matter) are not useful compared to a shield and shouldn't be put on the same playing field. |

Invisible shields would be awesome too! I rage a little as a martial artist every time I see a katana and a tower shield. |

Eh, maybe I'm a little bit pretentious I suppose. Rule of Cool needs to make sense though. But I would freaking love to see 1-hand and no shield builds not suck somehow. Even if it's just people requesting DC powers for something. The Demon Blade APC form is awesome. |

Considering that the way the weapon was used by the Samurai was "all of the power you can put behind a single blow" at least. |

Not technically true, but yes, it's very much a two-handed weapon. |

We were actually discussing this about 15 minutes ago due to my husband's samurai build. >.> |

About parrying daggers: Huge ridiculous shields that give no penalty whatsoever to a dex character despite being a semi-platemail they carry on their off-hand, should, in my opinion, be way less effective than a small weapon used to deflect blows by someone that is extremely agile. I would definately not be avert to seeing a small light weapon be transformed into a deflecting tool, if the actual damage potential of the weapon is removed entirely (no dmg +penalty to dmg + minus 20 penalty to AB, etc.), especially since wearing it requires 2-3 feats to make it effective AND gives you a -2 penalty to ab.. and deflecting AC does not stack, so your off-hand weapon would need +13 to AC to be equal to a stupid towershield (yes, I hate shields - they are cheap) In fact, I have been contemplating the idea for a long time with my Saya.. just decided I'd better spend efforts somewhere else instead (so I put +2 dex on my off-hand weapon and emote it as being there to deflect blows only <.<) -- About two-handed katanas (nodachi), you can actually get a greatsword with that model when you have the CEP. Now, I am unsure if that weapon model is on Amia or not.. if it is, then simply craft your greatsword to look like one, and don't care about the actual ooc feats your char took to specialize with his "katana". |
