In a world where everyone is usually beautiful and has super powers, I think it's a character's flaws that make them interesting. It's the contrast against others, the arguments, fights, mistakes and clash of thinking or acting that makes things dynamic, dramatic and still fascinating. The 'human' condition, sort of like the Greeks ascribed to their gods.
This doesn't mean what everyone else thinks your flaws are (everyone thinks my pc is annoying, perhaps because I am annoying/everyone thinks my pc is a dick, because he's evil). What shortcomings or vices have you actually given, notice, and roleplay in your character? i.e your 8 charisma and 8 wisdom truly comes across as autistic

Maybe your character is so perfectly beautiful that others treat them differently or chase after them and they take advantage of it. Maybe they're so perfectly powerful in combat they sacrifice other aspects of their life, like relaxation or fun. I know everyone likes to be 'perfect' aka highly skilled in a world of adventurers, but I just wanted to hear everyone's nuances of doing so I agree though, perfection itself can be a flaw, aka boring, infuriating

My first main was prone to bouts of selfishness, egotism and vanity, as well as intense mood-swings. All of that was moderated by being a generally kind-hearted and friendly individual, but one who was very certain that she was important, and liked to be made aware of that fact by others. In contrast, my second (and longest running) main character was obsessively 'loyal' to a fault, compromising her own well-being and emotions for the sake of individuals she truly cared about. When dealing with anyone but those people, she was blunt, brutally undiplomatic and emotionally distant (essentially a sociopath), and she found it difficult to connect with others on anything but a professional level. She also had a set of intense prejudices, many of which weren't explored but nonetheless impacted what might otherwise have been profitable situations for her.
The great thing I found about the flaws in both of these characters is that they were a source of excellent character development throughout my time roleplaying them. For my first character, the flaws developed (or were just enhanced) as a result of the direction of her RP, but were moderated by the characters around her, making a neat balance. For my second character, she started out heavily flawed, and it was through consistent effort from her and the characters around her that these issues became less pronounced, and she was able to better function beyond her own flaws. These two characters both had very obvious flaws, and I found those fun to RP. At the moment, my two (new) mains both have a number of far more subtle flaws that are not nearly as obvious to a casual observer, but I think pose an equally large challenge in long-term interaction. While they do have some obvious large-scale issues, the real nitty-gritty stuff isn't easily found.
So yeah, flaws are great and every character should have them, or they probably won't be a very interesting character for extended RP. If you're wonderful all the time, things begin to stagnate. It's when there are highs and lows that characters become interesting. (Though yeah, if your character is -too- perfect, that could also be a valid flaw).

I'm wondering if response will be low because people are afraid of others using what they write here against them. I'm just going to dive in - trying not to be completely transparent, because I've actually been thinking about this a lot the last few weeks.
Maral Zau'ana - Nuclear temper. It requires a LOT to enter the launch codes and push the activation button (for IC reasons), but don't expect to get a countdown. Cares more about others than she does herself, or her own sanity. Pride
Iim'mur'ss - Well it wasn't planned on how her low wisdom score would be played, but it has surely come out in her RP and personality! She has no concept of "look before you leap". Those that interact with her will be sitting nodding and saying, "Ohhhhh so that's why X, and Y, and A, and Q happened".
A couple of weeks ago I had a brief moment of OOC lamenting at Iim's plight. Oh if she just wasn't X race(s) she would have so much easier a time. Then I reminded myself, no, those struggles are exactly what make her a blast to play.

Most of my evil characters tend to be extremely prideful. Or so focused in their beliefs, that they acquire a sort of tunnel vision that blinds them to consequences. They often continue choosing a direction and sticking to it, traveling straight ahead and going so fast that they've lost control, can't change. In the case of Haan, he became the monster he was so worried about avoiding. A key factor in most of my evil characters, is that they're absolutely petrified of death. This doesn't sound like a flaw, at first. But couple this fear with a general lack of ethics, and you have a character who goes to extremely damaging ends just to avoid his own demise-- And often, ironically, guarantee it along the way. I try to shape my evil characters as tragedies, though because they so often don't let people get close to them, and because I tend to not write player stories that invites others into the heads of my characters-- this generally doesn't get seen by other players. Haan and Di'rien both, in my opinion, tend to have some pretty tragic stories. But their actions, in most cases, tend to cover up this tragedy with general resentment. Which just fuels their bitterness, and creates a deadly cycle.
I actually had the very recent pleasure of having a friend of mine explain one of my characters to me. I suggest you guys do the same-- it can be really eye-opening, or even inspiring. I asked who Aylomen was (My priest of Lathander), and got back a really neat response. When you play a character for so long, his actions just appear to be that-- actions. I can do so without a second thought, because I've entered the mindset of the character over the course of years, and it flows smoothly. So in hearing some of his flaws, and some of his qualities, it was really neat. I'd never really viewed the character in the same way, but after hearing it, I sat back and went, "Yeah, wow. He totally /is/ that."
I think this would be a cooler discussion (And perhaps even more insightful), and would not necessarily invite metagaming if instead of naming our own character flaws, we invite others to name what they believe our character's flaws are. But we'd have to keep in mind that it isn't a slam to the player, that these are all kind of compliments toward a player's attempt to create a realistic character: A flawed being.
I'll happily start, using a character that isn't around Amia anymore, so we can practice. What flaws would folks have credited Haan?

Well, Jacia's a tough nut to crack when it comes to her flaws, but just putting her into the right situation brings out the best of them! 1) She's over-prideful (But no so far as arrogant) at the fact she's one of the longest-serving knights of Kohlingen, even going so far as to call herself an example of what a Paladin and a Knight are to be. 2) She does suffer from alcoholism, whenever something really bad happened in her life that put her into that state of depravity. Her family dying, her close friends dying, etc. 3) She has a child-like adoration for baked goods and ice cream, this extends from when I was a role-play noob and she was my first character on Amia and she was what you'd call a "giggle-poker". I figured I'd keep at least one of her comical-relief traits, as an endearing quirk. 4) She's married to a former Sharran monk, who is literally been cursed by Shar. How would that not be a flaw when she's in a position of power in an order of Paladins in a holy city! 5) She has a fear of abusing power, intentionally or not. As for Ingrid, well.. Ingrid's Ingrid, that's a flaw in itself.

I don't really see how this thread could be used to ACTUALLY meta game. If you shared that your PC has a weakness for sonic damage, obviously, someone can really easily stab you with that. but if really hot babes or damage bad boys make your heart sink I don't think anyone would go out of their way to tailor their own character to befriend yours purely to exploit your weakness for lulz or pleasure unless you're really famous or they really care about spending time to fuck with one person (come on). That stuff happens naturally not from things exposed on a forum post. More often than not most people aren't even aware because they aren't looking for it
This no more exposes you to meta gaming than posting a character bio...
We can start another thread like "what does your character think of their close friends/close enemies" it's a cool idea too but I still think this is a good one just for fun, expression and sharing of role play ideas

I welcome people to make situations out of Jacia's flaws, metagamed or not! Expanding the good-side of your character only goes so far towards character development.

Oh, to clarify, what I was originally asking by suggesting that other players comment on character flaws, wasn't from an IC perspective. So rather than a thread like, "What my character thinks of your character," it was more an idea of, "What, as a player, do you see as my character's flaws."
Having another player, in my experience, describe certain aspects of your character to you was really rewarding and eye-opening.

I once worried that I played V too wise for his relatively low wisdom score. That he was a bit on the perfect side. Raise your hand if you sort of chortled at reading that first sentence. I can't really say it with a straight face anymore. Mr. Hackums wrote: I'll happily start, using a character that isn't around Amia anymore, so we can practice. What flaws would folks have credited Haan? My perspective is probably going to centre around the confrontations between Haan and my PC. When we took down Haan, it was quite clear to both of us that his mistake was pride. He could've easily escaped - V had the numbers, but he was taken off-guard. He didn't think Haan would go quite as far as he did with direct provocation, but they'd obviously both been pushed to the point. He could've escaped... but then he came back. Tried to fight it out - and he was undone, due to a supply failure. His pride, his refusal to accept a fight couldn't be won, led to the sequence which allowed his entire criminal empire to crumble. Later on, pride continued to be his problem - he'd built up so much around the idea of his own importance, around who he thought he was, that when he learned that other people's perceptions didn't match his... he simply didn't know how to respond. Tunnel-vision? Absolutely. His ruthlessness is what led to such key players turning on him - not to say that V was necessarily a key player (some people say so though), but there ended up being a small alliance mutually interested in doing away with him. If he was more even-handed, if he reined in his sadism and brutality, a lot of the darker sorts who were in a position to hurt him would not have had any reason to ally with his enemies. Finally, I think his own charisma ended up being his undoing - when he backed off, his entire network collapsed. He wasn't able to gather a stable enough support network because, wittingly or no, he made himself too important.

I think its pretty accurate, and pretty insightful.
V's been a very interesting character that I've had the pleasure of Roleplaying with on numerous characters.
I think, from my perspective, that V's tragic flaw is that he's a man who loves, but has made himself into a man that cannot be loved. What's even more tragic, in my belief, is that he was made this way by his environment. By his skill with a blade, and by the demands of others on him. So naturally, he uses what he can to protect those he loves-- but in return, he receives absence and damnation. Its as if he's trapped, almost. With every scowl and every dagger in the night pointed toward him, he grows a stronger and stronger desire to be loved. V very much has his own tragic, deadly cycle, in my opinion.

I've not interacted directly with Haan, as a player, much at all. That said, he was on my character's proverbial radar. I think pride and over-confidence are flaws that perfectly attribute to him, his rise in Amian affairs, and his subsequent fall from power.
This is an interesting subject. Playing flaws, be they mechanical flaws (low ability scores, racial weaknesses) or personality flaws (over-confidence, under-confidence, prejudice or predisposition), are integral to playing a lasting and contributing part of the server's continually unfolding story. The best tales of heroes and villains include a weakness. For Achille's part, it was his heel. As for my own character's part, he started with a few. And in time Ulrik has grown to have more. Given he is a private person, and possessing a rather faceted personality, very few know all of them. He may or may not have cultivated the perception of having flaws he does not actually have. Or does he?

Well... Lets see.. Screw Haan! (jk) So for Di'rien, I see him as someone who is driven. But not the healthy sort of "This is what I want", but rather to a point of obsession. Couple that with what I think is quite a superiority complex, where he over estimates his own abilities and means, while he drives full speed to his goal, I can see him headed for a rather bad crash head first into something very hard, very fast! Basically I see his greatest strengths; ambition, intelligence and charisma doubling to be his greatest flaws.

I wish I interacted more with Ulrik-- so take my perception with a grain of salt. Though, that being said, while my opinion may be uneducated to the entire truth, that doesn't make it worthless, or even necessarily wrong-- it's an opinion from a distant perspective!
The guy's a really well-fashioned character, with really human flaws. I think he's got a distinct bitterness, that has lead to his being unattached to others. I think in his aging, he's been witness to such sharp tragedy that he's retreated somewhat from feeling. He cares for his family, but he's not a very good father. He's torn between duty, having the capability to help others (Maybe even help others to not feel the same pains as he does), and between retreating to properly care for those closest to him.
And to shield others from being attached to himself, and potentially to shield himself from being attached to others, he wears a facade.

From what I saw on the DM client (briefly), Henry seemed rather naiive and quick to trust!

Henry was incredibly naive, and quick to frame things in a higher purpose...happily no one at all took any kind of advantage of that fact. This is an interesting topic, and definitely a cool idea to get other player's view points.

Maybe we should make a new thread for this. Like the how-known spam thread, but more focused.
Richard's biggest problem is how bitter he's become, I think. He can't reconcile with the enemies who've wronged him, no matter what they do. He can't trust anyone if there's even a shadow of a doubt upon them. He's been burned so many times, he sees it coming just about everywhere. His keen social perception would be perfect if not for how much it's been tarred over the years.

I think this still addresses the OP's original idea, but also serves a dual-purpose. The Op wanted to figure out what character flaws people were using, how they implemented them, etc. This is still doing that through examples! And its also providing neat feedback to the player on his character's perceived flaws.

Darby's friends aren't bitter! Darby is just woefully optimistic and alarmingly naive and trusting for a shadier type. Not really sure if those count as flaws though given the context...

Or to those he deals with. And another example of one's strength (his code of honor and chivalry) also being a weakness, that has brought the character no small amount of personal grief. That is, if Sir Robert could feel pain. Or cry tears. (Spoiler: He can, and has.) Darby's flaws are what make her who she is. She is defined by her flaws, not her strengths; and her strengths are directly subverted by these flaws. Yet she somehow has survived this long.

Ulrik's issue, in my mind, is that he has, for the most part, believed that he and his ragtag group of holies can handle any of the tribulations that seem to plague the isle of Amia. While he's won more often than not, that jaded sense of control may be his undoing in the end!
I think that same measure of control and always needing to be involved in saving the day, has jeopardized his family life and may continue to do so. I could be wrong, but from PC-side and DM-side, it's always been my impression.
For Darby, she is quite literally trouble for any who get close to her. People love her, but she is headstrong, naïve and most often the cause (indirectly or directly) of the suffering of others. It just so happens that the suffering is most prevalent for those she loves. Hence a self-perpetuated "Curse" complex.

Avadon, Avadon, Avadon.
What I could say about the First Knight of Wiltun, and his flaws. A desire for glory, without doubt. A desire to be in command, and in control, much like a recently commented upon wizard? Most certainly. I see in Avadon a desire to always have more. He is a risk-taker, without question. And his undoing may very well be his over-confidence and ambition.

Ooo! Fun thread!
Vilraniel: Very young for an elf, having barely reached adulthood. She is naive, emotionally controlled, and extremely arrogant. While being relatively smart, she isn't known to be the wisest elfie in town. She is quite gullible at times. She is an extremist, which makes her lacking in several other areas. She has not ever known love, for instance, apart from the love she holds for the People.

I actually feel that Ulrik himself has no need to be in constant control for the sake of control, but because it is extremely difficult for him to stand aside when an endeavor of importance is handled inadequately or by those who would seek a selfish benefit from it. The suffering of others when he could perhaps relieve or prevent it is a heavy burden on him. I believe the constant struggle of trying to step back to only assist those who oversee endeavors so he can give his children the attention they deserve, and feeling that if he does not step up many will suffer has been the theme of the character in the past months. Having been so successful, and deservingly so, certainly has not made it easier for him.
So his incredible ability and the sacrafices he is willing to give for others is what has caused so much personal hardship, and has made his family and friends targets again and again.

I like where this is going. Clarify this to me as this thread has begun to grow a long tail, are we doing our own character's flaws or perceiving the flaws above us? Let's moderate this a bit.((Placeholder))

So, a How Known Are the Flaws of the Characters Belonging to the Above Player Thread. The name needs a bit of work, but the idea is fairly easy!

Oh dear god. Vindel has far too many flaws. Lacks self confidence, anger problems when pushed, trust issues, its tough to really break it down because many of his flaws are very unintentional. Though i would love to read opinions about my character.

Alaria- wrote: Vilraniel What I myself have found about Vilraniel is that she is indeed naive perhaps due to her young age. Tom is also afraid of how others might influence Vilraniel as she seems suspectible to it due to her black and white-way of thinking. He still hopes she can learn the lessons she needs, perhaps the hard way. Actually seeing how things are different than she herself perceives them to be. She can be a loyal friend though, and Tom perhaps understands her in a way. She has experienced something very dark during her earlier life and that has molded her into the current character Tom knows her to be. In the end, Vilraniel isn't a bad person, atleast intentionally. She just seems misguided in Tom's view. He has frustratingly tried to talk to her about her views and how they might be leading her to a path she wouldn't be proud of. Which is abit tragic. Also events influence her quite abit. As a friend, Vilraniel is very loyal and caring. As an enemy, a very vengeful one. She is also quite stubborn.

Lemme see:
Tuomas: Significant disinclination for violent destruction even if the situation calls for it. Also prone to over-complicating matters and wanting to invent the next wheel. The only other main flaw is a strong urge to try to hold to the Celestial Virtues which can be quite difficult in the day to day life of an Amian Magi.

Ulrik is the guy I know most from the people above me. He seems to be the classic "those that gaze into the abyss..." trope. He's spent so long playing chess with us baddies that he's starting to be forced to think like one to stay a step ahead of the game. It's putting his humanity at risk. If anyone were even to look at one of those kids...I have to wonder just how much justice or mercy would be shown, rather than someone getting splattered across the ground in an arcane explosion.

Tuomas: While a humanitarian and socially polite, I think Tuomas is a true coward. Afraid of conflict and shy, unable most often to speak his thoughts and reserves into reaction over action. My main grudge with him has only been that he has not been strong enough and sacrifices too much, I think, to an assembly of older friends. Simply doing as he is bid to do by them and would dare not betray them, though however, betraying himself by sacrificing his integrity and pointing with the finger whenever it is pointed.
Luca: A callous disposition and inarticulate sense of compassion. He has none and his work 'their' work means succeed or fail to him. Maintaining harsh, even, totalitarianist guard over his island is important but also a part of him, in that I have found him to be but an elongated curled finger of the island itself, an extra digit. When Tarkuul dies, Luca dies with it. I would submit he is an anti-social personality, that takes one the persona of Tarkuul's masterminding itself. Just dark.

Vindel...
Man. This one's a bit tougher, even though I've played alongside Vindel from a number of different perspectives for a pretty long time. I think, so far as his flaws go, is that he's envious, greedy, and slightly obsessive. I think that this obsession to be involved, the desire to be the hero (Not only for others, but for his own sake-- so he can say, "I'm a hero." Sort of a self-realization), has driven him to stretch himself thin. The man wants everything-- whether its swordplay and magic, politics and action, deceit and honor.
So I think Vindel's tragedy is that he's always yearning for more, and never really satisfied with where he is. He's never truly happy, because he's either too distant (Stretched too thin), or because he wants something different or more.

Unfortunately, I don't know modern characters on Amia well enough to really analyse them. I prefer to talk about myself, anyway!
I am not sure what Joon's flaws are. Sometimes I think they are rather superficial. Sure, he's socially awkward and absorbed in his work, to the point of having had maybe one close friend during his years on Amia, and even she was more of a mother figure. That's the extent of her female contact, too. Right now he associates with his boss and and a business contract, at any personal level. And he's terrified of certain bad guys, bordering on paranoia. But these are quirks, something that make him cool. They're not real difficulties that force me to make tough calls and lose on purpose.
He is perhaps too trusting and exciteable. His naivety could get him in trouble; but then again, that could just be appearances. I get mixed up in his roles myself, and I'm not always entirely sure if I'm playing him too dumb or too smart. But that's part of the fun: I think Joon gets mixed up, too. He thinks he is clever, much moreso than is warranted. He can easily get in over his head because, despite his timid tendencies, he is enamored with the romantic idea of adventure, stories of cloak-and-dagger and high heroism. It becomes a game to him, and he can forget the real lives at stake. I must constantly evaluate whether I'm juggling his actual competence and his public image correctly, because the image has a lot of truth to it and it will intersect and interfere with what he thinks he's really all about.
Then there's the arrogance. He can get pretty pissy when somebody steps on his credibility or refuses to see something to him self-evident. Yes, he gets that from me! While we're geeks with similar interests both, I can honestly say that's the only trait in which I'm "playing myself." He is a lot more patient and less confrontational, though. He's also a pretty bad at pastoral care, as I'm sure Serbiris can attest to. He'd rather just convert and console everyone with a few sermons and treatises.
Let it be known that he has 8 Charisma (though mostly because I'm running a tremendously attribute-intensive build). Yes, he is a nice guy, but his mannerism is probably a little annoying. I may have been unable to represent it properly in game - and he is a trained public speaker, in any case - but feel free to look down on him.

I've only rp'd with Aiseth once that I recall, but I definitely noticed a beautifully flawed character there! She came across as a bit socially blunt or unaware, possibly selfish, and a touch haughty. This is a one encounter impression though, so I could be way off base.. Anyways, she was very fun to rp with. - The trouble I have is finding flaws that are both in-your-face (so that your character is memorable), but also realistic (so that your character is believable). It's a difficult balance. E.G. You can make an 8 int character, but it gets old and juvenile fast. Or you can go the mysterious, subtle route - but no one will notice. I think the best approach is to build a solid history, then make your character's flaws based on their life experiences and culture (and of course in game rp). That way you can be on the extreme side, but also plausible. Instead of just making a character that's randomly a kleptomaniac. You know?

Velden - Vee has always been the toughest nut to crack for me. Just when I think I have something figured out, my jinga blocks come tumbling down to start all over. But flaws... the most obvious to me is a weird mix of confidence in his abilities but at the same time an extreme lack of self esteem or more accurately, self worth. It was said that he is a man that loves and that is definitely spot on, but I disagree that he is a man that cannot be loved. I think there are a select few that actually love him, whether despite or in spite of his reluctance to receive it. He wants to be loved but doesn't think he deserves it? Without getting into too much of a lengthy discussion based on character perspective, a very complex individual for certain. Many attributes and flaws alike make for an interesting puzzle so far.
Darby - I've not had any really in depth RP with Darbs but the casual here and there and the every so often short meeting of seemingly dire importance. From what I gather, her most obvious flaw to me would be a desire to be accepted, belong, but also wanting to retain her freedom to do as she pleases. This comes through in not only social interactions but her personal life as well I think. This new turn her path has taken, if that is what it really is, seems .. odd, to say the least... so maybe another flaw is that whole 'wanting more' syndrome that so many of us seem to have. Bored with status quo so let's try something new? I'd be curious to find out how that particular idea came about though.
Aiseth - Hrn... Aiseth.. definitely an eclectic mix of light/dark, or perhaps a total lack thereof and just completely neutral. Flaws.. I think that Aiseth has dreams of grandeur but likes to complain (not necessarily verbally) about the effects of going for such. She seems to like to be held in high regard (for whatever various reasons one might do so) but at the same time, it is hinted at that she is also a victim and would possibly desire to be cared for and appreciated. In the end, Aiseth will either go insane from all of the crap she knows about so many high priority events that have happened upon Amia.. or... someone is going to kill her because she stuck herself into something they were trying to do and messed it all up for them.
Di'rien - Oy...I honestly don't even know where to begin with this one. I'll have to just stick with the flaws themselves rather than a general overview... hmm.. Di'rien is most obviously arrogant and self important. He too has a desire to belong but I don't think it is for himself, but rather because he thinks by doing so, he can bring something to that table that no one else can and in the end only enhance his self importance because he was the savior. Also in the same regard, he believes that he can pretty much take on anything, whether it be through skill or just plain manipulation to get what he wants. That, however, is the true mystery to Di'rien. I agree with a previous post that he is driven to the point of obsession, and if he actually does care for some of the people in his life, may come back to bite him in the arse because he will use them to continue his path if he needs to.
Ronnie (Veronica Ashara) - So chock full of flaws she is just a big ball of messed up stuff. I am very curious to know what others think of her. She's been around long enough I think that there should be a fair few that have thoughts on what she has done or at least rumors of what she has been involved in and those she interacts with and why.
Isys (my alt) - This one is still being developed but I think some folks may have a vague idea about her if they have seen her in passing or interacted at all. I know a few who may have more in depth thoughts about her thus far. Also, curious to know what comes through with her as I continue to develop her background and personality.
Thanks in advance for any insight into my own toons as I will check back here often to add more opinions as other characters pop up to be ROASTED! sorta :p

Hmm.. Daem, I decided to try to stay away here just for sake of not really being good at wording these, thus I try to keep them short and what I've been able to notice from my char's interaction with some. And these are from my perspective naturally so they are subject to propaganda given by other players through the roleplay. I don't think I know more than three characters really well in Amia and I would like to think each of these players know I mean them without stating their names. Ael'kaenmah Well I've been told that Ael'kaenmah is a person who uses other people, or work with people when they are useful to her. It is an interesting mix as Ael is too nice to really just use other but as well there is a slight insinuation to that as well. Ael is kind of terrible with personal relations with everyone, she attempts to work all charming, understanding and graceful, yet she feels very hard to approach other people on a personal level. As some characters have IC noticed and discussed it with her, she always talks about professional matters, work and research and recent political issues. Though, there is very few who has heard more of Ael'kaenmah as well. Actually there are more, but due to some of her IC matters being related, I won't open it more. I find it far more interesting to hear others opinions and findings. There as well is fact that due to a large number of constant changes, I do not really have had time to adapt her again to see what she is like now. And thus I just try to figure out where she stands as a character and hope I make some justice to what she should be. Velden One of the most interesting characters I've met, constant surprise coming from his direction by behavior or talking. Sudden anger treatment towards Ael as well. Duty before everything else. Stubborn. There is a sense of pride that at least certain someone has found in twisted sense enjoyable to trigger when she herself gets annoyed with him. Velden as well is loyal to a fault and receives some sense of satisfaction of being told what to do. Perhaps a small lack of direction. Yet, he doesn't trust easily and sometimes gives out a sense of just utilizing others to further his goals. Just remembered one more: Emotional. Sometimes I feel he is more of a woman, in emotional sense, than Ael... And that is a lot. Ulrik Valis, Every encounter with him usually is about work. He avoids speaking of personal matters, but so does Ael in a sense. I find it very lovely, Ael been trashed for not being able to discuss anything other than work and here is Ulrik, who never complains of it. He takes upon work and leaves, at least what I believe, everything else behind. As well I've seen him couple of times easily showing when he himself is not satisfies or doesn't believe other so much, perhaps a small lack in social manner. Robert There is not much to say other than my char doesn't want to know him more than needed to. Simply put he gives out a sense of superiority over others and through that conducts in slight offensive manner. At least from my perspective discussing in common to another when she has stated and explained several times in elven she doesn't speak it, is rude. Tuomas Valo One annoying gnome. I see him and Ael in quite opposite ends to each others. The gnome gives out a sense of importance, or at least claiming himself such. When something doesn't work his way, he doesn't like it, as well he has a need to monitor everything and comes to demand answers for social meetings that are none of his business. He is a hypocrite in my opinion, not something I can explain much, but he just has that air about him. A coward who tries to act otherwise. Judgmental, make one mistake and he will remember it. Aiseth Haughty was a nice word I noticed being mentioned of her. I do agree on being prideful as well. I think she had great plans, yet by her own actions and mistakes constantly failed at them. Darby She is a train wreck, if something ought to happen in an adventure, it happens to her. Thus better keep your distance and send Darby first, it happens to her anyway! But honestly, socially awkward sometimes, stubborn as well. Sometimes I get this sense of her that doesn't really know what is going on.. just kinda.. goes about it somehow. Honestly, she is very lucky to have loyal friends who keep her going, I doubt she otherwise would be here. A lack of self-confidence as well. Edited: Had time to reflect and finally came up with something to say, whether it is correct or not is a mystery to me. But part of the fun IG as well. Your welcome to discuss Ael, if not publicly, by PM as well

I'm a hair-spread from being insulted that Madrik wasn't mentioned here. I don't think there is a more flawed person. More than one person has said he's believable because of how "human" he is. He makes mistakes in conversation, has a list of issues both emotionally and physically as long as my leg (helm guys.. helm) and is Fallen for a reason.
If you've had a conversation with Madrik, you've seen him socially awkward, nearly clueless and borderline rude.

Ais is a mess.
Nostalgic, terrible lier, not as witty as he pretends to be, can be cruel, seeeeelfish, greedy and sometimes arrogant over his own wit, as good copper he is, Jack of all trades, master of none, hypocritical, can't be wrong, evades responsability, far too modest, is easily intimidated by important people, hates himself, loves himself, can't stand people below certain level of inteligence or charisma, dislikes goblins without reason, snaps if someone touches his wings without permission, hides his real personality, far too forgiving with some people, even for a dragonkin, far too rancorous with some people, would brag about everything, even if that costed his own life, mood-swings, far too wise for his wisdom level, enjoys going against the current far too much, can't let the status quo damn still, dislikes Bahamut, even being a copperkin, but overal; was hatched a kobold and can't bloody accept it. And many, many, many more flaws.

That's the angle from which you approach their minds. Just be clear about what's intentional and what isn't. Eliminate the latter. I'd take this topic as self-reflection and constructive criticism of our writing. There's a strange culture on Amia (and other role-playing environments) where we don't actually put our work up for criticism, and nobody dares offer any suggestions. Perhaps it has to do with this being a game and all, but writing as such is not some sacred expression of creativity that is beyond all evaluation. Every writer can use an editor, and getting feedback on what's believable and what isn't should make our characters even better. For some of us, writing is also our primary mode of thinking: to understand our characters, we need to spell out what we know of them.
