*** Ok problem solved turns out that when I was updating my ati driver the driver wasn't updating correctly and also the catalyst control centre was being installed even though I was ticking for it not to be, managed to get a fresh download and uninstall and reinstall the driver without the CCC and it all appears to be working again

A curse on the malware that is the CCC...
p.s. this can be locked or deleted now sorry for wasting of time.
