The name of the file cannot have more than 13 letters before the suffix "_h/l/m/s/t". If the name of the file is bigger than that, you will not be able to see your portrait: it will be showing as a blank square.

I need you to make the subject field of the email as follows: [Amia] Portrait of NameOfYourCharacter, so I can organize a list with the names of the characters included.

Portraits can be added to the Override folder if wished, instead of the Portrait folder. If you do this, you will see portraits, but will be unable to select them when you create a character. This can be handy, as a large portrait folder can cause NWN to crash when creating a character. Some people also express distaste over using "someone else's" portrait, but there is nothing we as the DMs can do about this: We will not "enforce" portraits. IF you have an issue with someone else using "Your" portrait, please take it up with that player and settle it civilly, but also understand they are not obligated to change their portrait

If you have a portrait in the pack but doesn't want to make it available anymore, PM me, so I can remove it as soon as possible. Someone else could have sent it on your behalf, if you did not send to me yourself.

If you are certain that you sent me your portrait, but it's not showing on the list (TXT file or Pack), send a PM to inform me. It certainly was not left out on purpose. I will update as soon as time allows, updating links and etc as needed.

I can offer -some- editing. I am not a photoshop pro by any means, but if you have minor things, I will at least take a go at them.

As well, unlike Dahlya, I will not watermark images so that you can claim the are yours. You may do it yourself, but on a personal level I find it extremely tacky, and disrespectful, so I will not be doing it. Neverthelyess, I will add them to the pack unedited.

This also goes without saying, but portrait images should be work safe for the most part. Cleavage is fine, fully exposed bare breasts is not. Please use sound judgment when it comes to this: If we get complaints on your portrait it will be swiftly removed and replaced, probably with some generic NWN image.

Step 1.
Using an image editor of your choice that supports the Targa (.tga) format, create a new blank image 256 x 512 pixels in dimension. Example software includes Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro.

Only the top portion of the image is displayed in the game, so that the actual size of your portrait is 256 x 400 pixels. The bottom portion of the image MUST be blank and unused. If it is not blank, your computer will light on fire and explode when you try to save your game -- er, well, or it might just crash.

Areas of the image:

canvas is the entire image
portrait is the area used by the game
blank is the unused area (but required)

You can also download the sample portrait I created, shown left. (This portrait is meant to be humorous, and should inspire you to do better!) You will need WinZip to unzip this portrait. If you view my sample portrait in your image editor, you will see it has the blank area described above. Remember, if you don't leave this area blank, you will experience crashes when you try to save your game.

Step 2.
Create your custom portrait, whatever it may be, in the 'portrait' area. Remember, even though the total size of the canvas is 256 x 512 pixels, only use the top 256 x 400 pixels as diagramed above for the portrait itself.

Step 3.
Now you need to create five versions of the portrait for the game to use. You have already created the largest version, so you can just resize it to make each of the four other smaller versions.

The dimensions of the five versions needed are:

256x400 (on a 256x512 canvas) - used for the Player Character Bio
128x200 (on a 128x256 canvas) - used for the character sheet
64x100 (on a 64x128 canvas) - used for the in-game portrait
32x50 (on a 32x64 canvas) - used for the party members and radial menu
16x25 (on a 16x32 canvas) - used for the chat thumbnail

Step 4.
You must save the images as Targa (.tga) files, (selecting the '24 bits' and 'uncompressed' options of your software). Compressed Targa files will not work in NWN. The filenames for the five versions must follow this pattern:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxh.tga (for the 256x512 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl.tga (for the 128x256 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxm.tga (for the 64x128 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs.tga (for the 32x64 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxt.tga (for the 16x32 canvas)

Where the prefix "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is a name you create, is 1 to 15 characters in length, and the same for all five versions.

The 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't' that follows the prefix indicates the size of the image (Huge, Large, Medium, Small, and Tiny).

So for my sample portrait, I created these five images:

robinsample_h.tga
robinsample_l.tga
robinsample_m.tga
robinsample_s.tga
robinsample_t.tga

As you can see, my images all have the same prefix of "robinsample_" (since it is 12 characters in total, it follows the rule of being between 1 to 15 characters), and I also have each of the five versions - 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't'.

Once you have either created your portrait, or downloaded one, you can use it in the game.

I assume the newest pack is the one that is 147.6 MB, since it is the largest. Not sure if the add-on pack is included or not. If not, I assume it will be in the next full pack.

Resend? It may be the easiest option.

You'll have to resend it, Dead. I haven't gotten any that were sent before I officially took over.

Also, those of you that have edits, they'll be in the next pack. If I have rigid dates I stick to I'll be less likely to slack.

Uhh... so i take it from the size of the pack, and that i can't find my char's name on the "Includes:" list, that Tormak hasn't really sent you everything people sent him? If you're not getting that from Tormak, PThree, i guess i'll send it again to you...?

No. If you sent your pack to Tormak, send it to me again. I haven't gotten -anything- from him yet.

I did go ahead and fix Berach's, and add Lucius and Storrdverg and Sei'rin. (I think that's it. Anyone who sent me one, you're in there.)

yeah, sorry about that, if you sent stuff to me, send it again to her. yeah, even if it was 4 months ago. i d/led the group at once when i made the packs, so when i didn't do a pack for 4 month.s.. well, i didn't d/l a portrait for 4 months.

old portraits for p three says its got 35 minutes left to upload. FYI: it's like a 2.23 gig file.

If it were me, I'd think about scrapping the old portrait pack entirely and starting from scratch. I imagine a significant portion of that file size is portraits of retired characters and inactive players. You could keep the current pack yourself, and re-add portraits to the ongoing pack as active players request it.

I second this. It's long time for a refresh. I'd scrap it all and put out a call for resubmissions.

th e full pack is hardly 150 mb. that's nothing. who cares if there's retired character portraits in there?

like keep in mind that's 2.44 gigs b/c of my organization system. i've got doubles, triple,s quadruple sof protraits in there, every single file I've ever uploaded is in there, the add ons and the full packs. if p three has the latest full pack, she already has everything. i only uploaded this b/c she asked me to...

Me, for example, playing on a usually crappy Starbucks internet connection that takes me forever to download it. It's not an earth-shaking big deal, certainly, but it's annoying, knowing much of that time is spent on downloading portraits that will never do anything but take up space on my drive.

so only download the add on packs, that are only about 1-3 MB. there's no need to download the full pack after you've downloaded it once. That's why the add on file exists, to help the people with poor internet connections.

I have a pretty decent uplink speed. Would it be of interest if I host a torrent for the portrait pack during weekends?

Yes, I will still be here. I'm checking to make sure there's no latecomers for this month and it'll be up today or later tonight.

I am trying to get this going; for some reason my computer is refusing to upload it. I'm testing to see if it's me or Mediafire doing it.

I kicked it and threatened its mother until it succumbed and uploaded. New portraits are up now.

How many of those 3000+ portraits are even being used?

What does doing this entail? Any complicated, esoteric work? Or does someone just have all the images emailed to them and then compact these images into a file for everyone to download and put in their override folders?

As of the last update on Feb 6th, it was P Three doing them for us. I know she had some problems with the linkage upload thingy but got it done somehow. Not sure if she will continue as I've not seen her around much.

I've gotten a response from the e-mail denoting that they may not be doing it anymore for... understandable reasons.

I don't know exactly what happened, but she can't do them anymore- or so I was told. So if this is to continue, someone new has to pick it up. That's why I'm asking if it involves anything a lay-person wouldn't know or couldn't easily pick up.

Because if a "lay-person" can easily pick this up, then I probably will, unless someone else steps up to the plate before me!

Okay, sorry for the double post, but I need to get DM attention.

I am thinking about picking this up, since P Three cannot anymore. But I'm wondering if I need permission from the team to do so. From what I've been told, all that needs to be done is folk email their portraits to me, than I zip everything and upload it to a site. Then I take that link and post it here, and people download all the current portraits from that link. The leto people take care of the portrait switching, and nothing needs to be uploaded to the hak itself.

If this is all the portrait pack entails, then I can totally take care of it. I certainly have the time on my hands to do so. Do I need special permission, or can I create my own thread (or take over this one)?

I believe I speak for the whole Team when I say that you're not only welcome to take this over, but a lot of people would appreciate it!

I'm going to make a new email account dedicated to this, then. Should I ever be unable to continue, I can pass the email along to the next person (with a reset password of course). Shall I make a new thread? And if so, do I just need to repost what the past three folks who took care of this have posted?

EDIT: I am putting together my own topic for this, and getting all the previous files so I can post them. Hang tight, and in the meantime, if anyone wants to send me their portraits for this month's pack, please do so at: amiapics@hotmail.com WHILE FOLLOWING THE GUILDELINES FOR THIS THREAD! :lol:
