Does Tel'Quessir translate into the Elves? What is an eladrin? Are absolute n00bs, like me, allowed to join? |

Tel'Quessir is the Elven word for "The People". ^^ Ar-Tel'Quessir would be "The People of the Sun", or Sun Elves. And there's no better way to learn than to throw yourself into it fully. People will be happy to guide you along the way. |

Back in the day we used to burn people on crosses for making mistakes, but the elves are a gay little bunch, I guess. |

A great RP idea would be a Half Elf, that has only ever lived with humans (Or dwarves or whatever) and knows nothing of his Elven heritage. This char would come to Winya to learn more of his people, and would bring with him a great deal of knowledge about whatever race you do know a lot about. |

That is the likely route I would pick, because being wrong about things is something I avoid to the bitter end. When I reach that end, I learn. Yuck. |

Tel'Quessir means "of the People", not just "the People"; that's Quessir! |

It's a fantasy language, not a precise science. The point was there. |

I'm not equating it to a precise science, there are just two separate words. It also looks redundant to me when people say "of the Tel'Quessir". |

Mirvala is actually correct. Tel'quessir directly translates to "The People." Ar'tel'quessir literally translates to "The Sun People" Interesting note: Ar- as a prefix also means "greatest" "Of" is "en' " When people say "...of the tel'quessir", they're saying "..of the the People" |

Canon FR materials and candle keep agree that Quessir means The People (or Elves, to other races) and Tel'Quessir means Of The People, making Ar'Tel'Quessir "People of the Sun" roughly. No, it is not an exact science or a language with clear cut extensive rules, but we can work on precedent. The language shows a lot of peculiarities, especially regarding non nouns. Where TEL translates roughly to OF in this case, in the case of, say, Evereska, it means Fortress of the People, with Eska meaning "fortress" and ever meaning... Whatever the hell it wants in this case. It may be best to agree to disagree since so many sources conflict with line another, and given time I can give examples of canon sources which are guilty of this as well. FR is not known for co sistency. |

Yeah, grey company isn't always the best to use as I don't think it uses Forgotten Realms 'Elven' too well. Otherwise sun/gold elves would be Mal'Quessir for example. |

From what I've seen, it seems to be rather controdictory on what "Tel'Quessir" means. Different sources will say it means 'of the people', or just 'the people' Cormanthyr: Empire of the elves, seems to suggest the former, while the FR wiki suggests the latter ( but its source for such as the aforementioned book, so....!) Edit: I can't read apparently. But what Liz said! |

I have a few sources at home which say different things, but after I get a chance to look at them it may be best I go with the majority for the sake of clarity. |

What I use is the Candlekeep website (I believe this was linked as an elven resource on this forum), which has an elven dictionary. This is also in the book Elves of Faerun I, but that' partly homebrew, at least for some history. I do want to expand on my elf resources, though, so I'll check those out! |
