So the pvp tool says that if you're knocked unconscious and have the 5 minute respawn, you become conscious again after 5 minutes.

To me this means you can respawn and it's OK, after 5 minutes.

I did this today because after a pvp spat people were starting to just wander off or log off and I basically clicked respawn, and was like "OK, I'm conscious again. Cool. Escape time." I did not continue pvp, I just ran off. People now think I got OOC rezzed (nobody was OOC rezzing me or even talking about raising me OOC or IC, or really discussed my character much at all), and then ran off and ignored RP. Not really. Nobody OOC or IC rezzed me.

Is the pvp tool wrong, and you DON'T become conscious after 5 minutes like what I did, if people use the "subdue" setting?

I do not believe the PvP tool is wrong.

I wasn't involved in the situation, but it would seem to me that if you respawned and then went back to the place you died, and RP'd the escaping part, then it should be fine. If, however, you returned to your home point without the escaping RP I would say that isn't fine. :P

Well I respawned where I died, but I was like "fuck" and timestop'd and ran away, because I was nervous lol. Of course some people I heard through the grapevine, made a big deal out of it... But it really wasn't malicious. I actually had a good time even though I got knocked out of the pvp.

Any DM's comment?

I think it's more a courtesy thing. If your character is taken down by another character, it's up to that character what happens next if nobody else gets involved. That's the way I've always looked at it.

Unless you get left behind and nobody interacts with your character's body for 15-20 minutes, it's probably a good idea to wait for the other characters involved to decide what to do with your unconscious character.

That way you avoid people getting upset and feeling like you might've god-gamed your way out of consequences for your character. You'll also get to be part of all the interesting RP that happens after the fighting is over. Roll with the Punches! :)

You can use the pvp tool and change it so that you don't knock people out but kill them instead. I think the reason most people don't change it is that it allows capture of others without the need for a raise, which in turn means that if you leave someone along enough that the wake up, they get to meander off to fight another day. OR that they don't know they can change it.

IMHO people can't have it both ways in pvp; either you use the tool to knock someone out and open the potential for capturing people alive, or you set it to actually kill people and they die and can't get back up without a raise or help. But as Krin said, having a line of communication with your opposition so mistakes or misunderstandings aren't made is always a good thing.

I think it depends ~a lot~ more on the individual circumstances of the encounter than any arbitrary ooc mechanical function, and that it is more important that is we as a community get back to cooperation in creating entertaining, immerse, and believable RP.

I don't believe that we should allow ourselves to escape IC using ooc mechanics unless as has been said the encounter is obviously over after a reasonable period of time of nothing happening.

Sometimes encounters happen and there simply isn't time or an opportunity to set the pvp settings to anything other than the default and so it would be a mistake to presume its unconsciousness unless the RP clearly states it would be.

Again this comes back to respecting other players and the RP more than the urgent need to "win" or get one over on other players (as opposed to suffer reasonable IC interactions and reactions to hostile IC actions)

Not pointing any fingers just have to say, I wasn't involved in any this pvp nor any other for a very long time but I feel strongly that its long past due that we stop trying to win vs other players and get back to the fact that sometimes loosing is a great tool for RP and storytelling.

Which should be the core reason for anyone to play here imo.

Have you read the pvp rules on the forums?

As someone who was present at the actual event (I was online as Souris at the time), I can say that, well, yeah, what you did wasn't exactly good manners. I probably wouldn't go so far as to consider it a rules violation though. More like a missed opportunity for some potentially interesting RP

I personally do not believe you had any bad intentions when you scampered off. Probably just momentary flash of frustration or whatever. I don't think there's actually a single person here who can honestly claim that they never just logged or otherwise bailed out after losing PvP before they could be captured and whatnot. Happens to the best of us.

Silke: I have read the pvp rules (I re-read them again before and after I posted this, even), and it doesn't state anything about this.

Tanz: Yeah, the entire situation wasn't exactly what I envisioned lol, including being attacked after saying one word in the Dale. But the escape was not about frustration, I wasn't frustrated with any of what happened really. It was rather fun I thought. Sorry if others were frustrated!

The Amian PvP system wrote:
The setting of the killer is the one that matters, and the victim (m/f) does NOT determine the outcome of the fight, neither ICly or OOCly.

So whether you were OOC raised using the pvp tool or respawned yourself you still have to wait for or seek clarification of your characters status after being defeated.

Not that its part of the original topic but as its related and you brought it up, your character attacked first after ignoring the RP. Plenty of people there saw it and were OOC miffed about it but rolled with it IC as coincidentally it kind of meshed with an RP conflict that only minutes before had been resolved with other characters not present in the second battle.

Also you rolled in to the area fully buffed so I don't think you can raise an OOC hue and cry about people in the area rebuffing as you ran into sight.

Others were frustrated because you had no right to simply accept an OOC raise or self raise and then cast a spell or two and run off.

You didn't give anyone a chance OOCly or ICly to say or do anything beyond the original challenge which was "Stand back matey", it wasn't "stand back or die" or "get out or die" there was no IC or OOC intimation of PVP and so no one had the chance to set their PVP tool to whatever setting they desire and in anycase the rule is quite clear its not up to the defeated player IC or OOCly, its up to the victor.

Next time engage in the role play, that's what we are all here isn't it?

Already messaged a DM with your private message to me, and you are lying about many things here (which I can have others attest to, if need be, but we'll do that in private with the DM's, not on a thread. You've been around long enough to know not to air your dirty laundry in public.)

Take your personal issues elsewhere.

This could have all been avoided, if I just remembered to screenshot that there combat log.

It is mostly just a courtesy thing, in that it you should generally let the "scene" play out once combat has finished, so at the very least give warning about your character awakening and allow them checks or rolls rather than just running off with no warning.

On a Rules level PvP rules 9. and 16. are of relevant interest to this, perhaps not explicitly but certainly implicitly.

Also since this seems to have spawned from a specific event if anyone involved could avoid from mentioning that actual event (Any further) it would be great.

More than happy to discuss this with yourself and DMs in a private space as to who is lying about what, but if you state something false in an public OOC thread about people, expect those you are talking about to rebut what you say in the same thread good for the goose good for the gander right.

My "issues" as you condescendingly put them are with you breaking just about every pvp rule, then bringing it to the forums to seek validation on your actions, which frankly I could care less about right up until the point to claimed you were the innocent victim attacked "after saying one word".

Trying to belittle me as a person won't alter the facts of your actions.

I contacted you privately to try and talk this out but you threw it in my face, so pot calling the kettle black much.

Totally agree, sadly I didn't get any screen shots as when this scene started off my character and some others were preparing to depart the area to go on a hunt, hence the buffing that was going on. Furthermore after the encounter everyone seemed to be rolling with it IC and not making a fuss and frankly I was happy to do the same until I spied this thread and the little comment about "was attacked after one word".

Note to self screen shot all and everything from now on and take nothing on faith.

I look forward to discussing this further privately with DMs

This has gone off topic, evidently.

As for the rules question, it's a matter of courtesy and decision-making on the part of the PvP victor. The person who 'kills' you in PvP decides the state of you. If they state that they knocked you unconscious, you are. If they state that they killed you, you're dead. While mechanically you can come back 5 minutes after 'death' in a PvP kill, doing so when your killer stated that you're dead, or doing so if they're still intending RP with you while unconscious is poor manners. I would suggest that if you have not been OOC raised and your status clarified by the time you're able to respawn, you should respawn, remain where you are and request that your killer inform you of your characters status so you can RP accordingly. And of course, if the PvP is still ongoing by the time you're able to respawn, it's probably better to wait and remain dead, lest your OOCly alive status makes things confusing. Clarification is always the best way to avoid OOC disputes and problems in PvP.

I hope that answers your question, Misterlich. If it does not, I'll be happy to clarify any further questions you have over a PM, but I think it best that this topic be locked now.
