Post subject:  Amia and Optional Downloads

I'm fairly new to the server but I have to wonder why there are such an extensive number of "optional downloads" which, having played without them, clearly aren't all that optional. Sure, I can connect, but most NPCs and players are headless, and much clothing either doesn't show up at all, or floats in the air like it hasn't been animated. I did have the optional downloads for a while but had to clean up some things and found it easier to just delete it all, and while I'm perfectly able to redownload it all, and I guess willing enough if it wasn't for the fact that it makes things appear weird/wrong on other servers.

So my question is why these assets aren't simply added to the existing hak for Amia? I don't mean to be snide or anything with it, I'm honestly curious and due to my lack of knowledge on haks, there may be some technical limitations I'm simply unaware of.

Hope this is in the right section for such a question.

At the time, it seemed like a good idea, but I agree with you 100%. In 2015, we should definitely be including these in a hak file. But yeah, that'll be waiting for when the hak is redone. :?

if it were up to me, I'd ditch the whole structure, if possible, and just have a big file, but eh..

Having multiple files with a misleading naming nomenclature has caused alot of headaches... both on player and dev side.

I think some of it may have to do with simple expedience. You can drop something into Optional Downloads and not have to wait for a .hak update to roll around; people can start using it right away. Whereas a .hak update only happens every other year or so.
