What is the youngest age a character is allowed to be? |

18+ I think, anything younger would require a 5 DC skin change and request. |

Yes, you aren't allowed to play "child PCs". |

Not at all or can it be played upon special request and approval? |

Special Request and Approval- but I had a similar question to a player. You can't level the child past 3. |

Well, not exactly. It's 16 (because it's a die roll) http://www.d20srd.org/srd/description.htm#age |

I don't understand how it saying "race: human, adulthood: 15" is hard to understand. If you mean the lowest value you can get is 16 when randomly generation your age, you would be correct. |

Where it then goes on to say add 1d4/1d6/2d6 to that age dependant upon your class. |

Richard_Edmund wrote: Where it then goes on to say add 1d4/1d6/2d6 to that age dependant upon your class. It says this: Quote: You can choose or randomly generate your character’s age. If you choose it, it must be at least the minimum age for the character’s race and class So, you are both right, in a sense. If you choose your age, it must be at least minimum age for that race (human 15). If you go random and roll for age, start at minimum and add your die roll. (human 15 +die roll, 16 being minimum). |

My mistake then, I had only read the chart itself where it would say +1d6. |

It's possible that it wasn't noticed, or there was a change? Hm, going to need a DM to chime in now. Because I recall a specific discussion on this topic, but it was years and years ago. |

The question though, as I understand it, is an OOC one, not IC. Regardless of how adult a character is perceived to be IC, all characters must either be 18 years old or specially requested. |

It's possible some existed in the past, but some get overlooked and/or grandfathered. So far as I know, it's still a rule that your character has to be 18-equivalent or requires a request. |

On our server, it's 18+ regardless of D&D adulthood ages. As said above, anything below and it requires a request to play. |

So whats the oldest I can be? |
|
| Author: | SamTheGiantSlayer [ Tue, Sep 22 2015, 9:35 AM ] |
| Post subject: | Re: Character age |
As old as you want, within feasible range of your character's race. For example, the oldest ages human can live up to for this setting (i.e, magic to keep everyone alive and stuff before you just pass from old age and not wanting to answer the call anymore) would probably be somewhere up in the 70s to 80s. Where as if you're an elf, you could be like 700 years old. Depends, really. The only strict rule is how young you can be. |

More out of curiosity than questioning the rule itself; why is it 18? |

I don't know the reasoning for sure. I would just assume it's the same as the reason for doing it across most NWN servers I've been to. It makes everyone less liable for weird things that can happen to underage characters, which is an iffy topic all around and usually avoided at all costs. Especially considering the reason why we don't allow cybering either; the owner of the server doesn't want his namesake tied to any of that. So we just respect the rule. |

Yeah, think of it this way: How well would the court (or public eye) receive the argument of 'but in DnD that 16 year old is an adult!'. aka Stupid people spoil our nice things :< |

| Post subject: | Re: Character age |
Regardless of the racial adulthood all of the characters must be 18+ by our standards. Anything less than that warrants a special character request. The adulthood for a Gibberish race may be at 5 years but still the Gibberish character must be 18 years old unless approved otherwise by the DM team. It's pretty straightforward. |

Wait, ALL races? Because I'm pretty sure I've made kobolds and orcs that were younger than that, so that they'd be plausibly inexperienced adventurers. |

As I understand it, 18+ is a hard minimum, non-negotiable even if your character's race matures at a faster rate. Your kobolds and goblins need to be 18 too. Unless I'm misinformed, the purpose of the rule isn't to make sure that characters are plausible functioning adults IC, it's so Disco can make sure that he or anything he owns isn't associated with portrayals of characters whose ages would mark them as legal minors in the real world. His RL job involves significant contact with kids, and he doesn't want to take the chance of being tagged in RL for anything sketchy. He doesn't want to risk anyone being able to say stuff like "omg, look at what Disco let this poor innocent fifteen-year-old do, all this black magic and human sacrifice and devil worship! Clearly he's not fit to teach my children!" It's 18+, every character, no exceptions for faster-maturing races. The DM team is welcome and encouraged to correct me if I'm spouting disinformation here. |
