Okay, Ive had this thought in my head for a few weeks now, and its both a stupid yet fun one but from what Ive been told the class RDD in essence makes the character a half dragon technically

So I began to think, Would it ever be possible for a RDD to give up his non dragon blood for the place of his dragon blood through magic or even divine means and turning them into a full blooded dragon at the risk of their own health

This was just a idea Ive had in my head and was just wondering what others thought of this weird and possibly stupid idea

RDDs /don't/ make you a Half-Dragon. It just means somewhere in your character's lineage there was once a Dragon and you perform rituals to increase the strength. But you don't increase the blood. Basically all characters not approved by the DM team is roughly 0.00000001% Metallic / Gem / or Chromatic.

If you want to play a Full blooded Dragon just request it. ;)

RDD at 10th level does come close to turning you into a Half-dragon as you get some of the Dragon immunities , I can't remember if in Amian lore that holds quite accurate or not but i am pretty sure it does. Though, I am not certain so please take what I say with a tablespoon of salt.

Ive honestly considered asking for it the only thing that has held me back from it is, First I'm not sure if I could live up to being a proper dragon

and second is I'm not sure how Id go about asking for it and third It just seemed cool to me that someone is willing to trace their lineage so far back to a dragon and actually have the

resolve to ascend to their ancestors ranks

Gry may be right. Though if you want to know absolutely everything / anything about Dragon Ds, PM Musahshi or Maverick.

Dragon Disciple essentially taps your blood and ramps it up. It makes your blood the strength of a half dragon's blood. It doesn't make you a half dragon. There is a distinctive difference.

Maverick has the right of it. Here's a helpful topic for you to read, if you're interested in Dragon Disciples! This is one I put together on my own almost four years ago. At the time it was the only guide any new folks had on Dragon Disciples, so feel free to read through it for ideas.

And here's another! This one is what the DM Team officially released for Dragon Disciple lore.

It is a cool idea, and I would encourage you to keep developing thoughts along those lines, and supplement them with the lore and knowledge you learn about the class. You may not be able to revert into full dragon, but I bet there are some cool ideas tucked away in there somewhere for your character.

Rules are a buzzkill. Your idea is more than just requesting a full dragon; it's becoming one, which is a whole another story. A much neater and awesome story.

"Becoming one" and "taking the form of one" are two different things. It's impossible to actually "become" one when you weren't born a true dragon. But maybe there's a point where you're so far along in your rituals that you can focus all your magical blood into a nice, big shapechange or something. ;)

I don't like the use of the word "impossible" when talking about what magic can or can't do. :) Nothing is impossible, I think. A creature switching from one race or creature type to another is a big deal, but it's not unprecedented, even on Amia. Changing from a humanoid into an actual dragon would be a waaaaay more drastic change than I've ever heard of happening, but that general category of alteration isn't so far-fetched, in my opinion.

That's not quite true. You can be 1/4 dragon. Your father/mother can be a half-dragon.

But what if you could do it through a divine mean? Like going through one of the many draconic gods such as Lo, Bahumat or Tiamat and etc

Like in essence they see the potential you have through the strength you carry to go so far down this path they "gift" you but then again when you start involving gods shit can hit the

fan

Mechanically speaking Reincarnation is in many ways objectively easier than coming back to life as your own race by using Raise Dead. One spell level lower and a fifth the cost (Only a level 4 druid spell at 1000 gold). Amia is more the oddity in it being so difficult compared to the base.

Well, I'm just speaking logically about pursuing your dragon ancestor through the normal means. Just taking 20 levels of DD, for example, won't magically turn you into a dragon, just as taking 10 levels doesn't magically turn you into a half-dragon.

If you want to play a true dragon, you need a formal request to submit to the DMs, no matter what route you take. I'd suggest working directly with one of the DMs if you want to incorporate deity interaction, since that sort of stuff is pretty much a no-no anymore, except in rare circumstances. We generally try to stay away from god interference these days, to my understanding!

But as far as my personal opinion, I don't think any of the dragon gods would do that unless your character had completed some epic, superior, awesome, PnP-esque feat that saved all of dragon kind or something. That's more a PnP-style reward following an epic campaign. That sort of single-handed awesomeness generally doesn't happen on Amia, and I think it's best that way. There are a lot of players here. Everyone wants to be super-fantastic-awesome.

We just have to do it differently and think more down-to-earth.

Again, just the opinion of someone who's been playing here for almost a decade. Heh!

So as I was digging through the internet learning about RDD, Half-Dragons and dragons in general I found this little thing which I believe is turning a player into a dragon, Now I have

a question would it even be possible on amia?

Post subject:  Re: RDD Blood

Definitely a DM question. And you might write them directly in the Requests forum or in a PM with a clarification of what you intend to try with that. The process you have in mind, etc.

Blanket yes-or-no's are hard to give out without context or experience with you as a player.

Post subject:  Re: RDD Blood

If you're talking about Dragon Kings, its an optional 2e Dark Sun module. Its a pretty safe no on using it as a cannon source, especially since the supporting lore and mechanics quickly gets even more Dark Sun specific which is a drastically different setting. Honestly a request for something like that is likely far better off sourcing FR lore related to dragons, transmutation magic, etc. And giving Unearthed Arcana is always worth a look since it goes into some more ritual types of spells and the like (although a decent source for any more custom request that has little or no solid lore and will require lore crafting work).

Post subject:  Re: RDD Blood

Maybe the interesting part of it is the pursuit of the goal in becoming a dragon. Whether it is achievable or not is perhaps irrelevant since its the type of accomplishment which would take years of game play, even a lifetime for a character. This single minded pursuit would make for a great plot divice for character. Maybe a power hungry psychopath (see: The Great Red Dragon in Hannibal season 3, great show) obsessed with his transformation, or a devout Bahamut worshiper looking to achieve divine metamorphosis.

Post subject:  Re: RDD Blood

Just to put this in: Deity interaction isn't extremely rare. Every day paladins, Clerics, and Druids communicate in some form with their deity or intermediaries. Plots are revolving around a deity's passing gaze within their spheres of influence, people are falling, and new spells or abilities are being granted for the devout.

Not to quote him out of context, but Tormak said something fairly recently that I've been taking into greater consideration: "The gods are active, alive, and aware."

By all means pursue it to your hearts content but know it may never come to pass. Much like all things.

Post subject:  Re: RDD Blood

That's not quite what I meant when I said that, Mercedes. But your clarification works well with the discussion anyway.

The wonderful thing about DnD is that magic and the divine can do just about anything. We have a setting were arcane magic is a tangible thing and most PCs and NPCs can remember a time where the gods -literally- walked the face of Toril (even typical Humans). The Time of Troubles happened in 1358 DR. We're not even a full 30 years past that point (current year is 1383 DR, iirc).

As it has been mentioned, technically speaking, yes you have a shot at reincarnating as a Dragon if a Druid wished to cast it on your dead self. You can also Wish for it, or even beseech a power for a Miracle to become one. Nothing is barring you from creating a ritual to do so either.

Regardless of the route pursued, you would need one heck of a request. That's the only real 'catch' to it.

Yeah. Overall, when it comes to reincarnation, it would also be a d100 roll where the ONLY roll that could even carry a possibility of reincarnating as a dragon would be a flat 100. And even then, 100 is (at least in PnP) "DM's Choice". So yeah. More likely that you'd become an orc... or a rat, cat, dog, etc. LOL.
