I have a question about toons and wings. The DM team automatically approves toons that possesses wings being able to fly and RP flying ? If you claim flying away before a conflict starts for example. Flying is a PnP ability or should be considered legitimize in game ? |

It is a mechanical ability like shadowjump and follows the same rules as far as I know. I can't claim that Lyraesel for example flies away before a fight without consent. I am not allowed to fly up to unreachable places and attack players or monsters where they cannot follow either. Other than that, I can 'fly' mechanically in a fight as much as I like, be it away from the attacker or towards them! Please correct if I am wrong, lovely DMs! Also! Not all characters with wings can fly. Dragon-disciples have to learn before they can fly IC, while some others may be granted flight on creation. |

I was under the impression that unless you RP'd for the flight widget you wern't flying, unless people were OK with it in the same way people have to be OK with everything else that isn't literally reflected in-game for one reason or another. If you have the widget, you can literally fly around so do that. Else, if you're there, you're there. For example, I fly around as a raven and emote that I'm 'really high in the air.' At the same time if I'm snooping around and someone walks up and decides to throw down and I get caught in the AoE a maximized fireball and get exploded, I'm dead despite being 'really high in the air' when the spell went down. If they wanna ooc rez me and say 'you didn't die' fine. If not, fine. Just how I've been doing it. |

Most people have to learn flight because they were not 'born' with wings or have had them since coming of age or so. I.e, dragon disciples, aasimars, tieflings, etc. There are exceptions of course like Avariel, who have wings much longer/earlier than other races who are capable of growing them, and are special request only, so it is assumed they can fly before coming to Amia for the most part. More excpetions could possibly be made on a case to case basis and always with a request! |

It used to be a rule a long time ago that you had to learn flight, no matter if you were born with them or not. It's interesting, because it led to my winged PC having a story that very much involved her having wings, losing them, and having them regrown at a later time before learning to fly. "Flying" forms are always a bit weird. It's generally assumed that turning into a form that hovers ICly doesn't give you the ability to fly. And likely, Shapechanging into a dragon doesn't automatically allow you flight either. I think it was approved once that like someones DC wereform had the flight ability for someone because they learned to fly in it. Quote: For example, I fly around as a raven and emote that I'm 'really high in the air.' At the same time if I'm snooping around and someone walks up and decides to throw down and I get caught in the AoE a maximized fireball and get exploded, I'm dead despite being 'really high in the air' when the spell went down. If they wanna ooc rez me and say 'you didn't die' fine. If not, fine. NWN's 2.5 Dimension physics aside, someone could totally shoot a fireball up in the air at a target, ICly. We even have some fun little "firework" placables in the module that allow casters to do just that, for dramatic effect. |
