I had to read on feys a bit and researched when I went through Saya's quest. I still read stuff, actually. Today, however, I have seen something that made me very confused. This thread is me trying to get answers, other players' opinion on the lore, and perhaps try and have the Amian lore clear when it comes to Cold Iron. My goal is not to throw players in the open and judge them, so I will leave names out of it.
---
Situation:
Saya seeks council on how to approach one of her friends carrying cold iron. She doesn't want to be close to cold iron, and she cannot consider herself being friend with someone who does. She then gets told by a fey "It's fine as long as it's not used against you" and then by someone nearby "Look, I have cold iron, my lover is fey and she's fine with it". Apparently, "it's the user that makes the difference".
---
Everything I've read on feys and cold iron can be summed like this --
1 ) They do not want to be anywhere close to cold iron
2 ) They won't respect or think highly of someone who carries cold iron
3 ) Cold iron is far more damaging to them than just "Baaah, steel can hurt anyone and everything"
Here are some quotes taken from the forum:
Quote:
Cold Iron: The much-storied death at the touch of cold iron for faeries is true to a point. A dagger or an iron spike in your pocket is enough to deter any fey who might consider interrupting your sleep. Open scissors tied above a baby's crib (points and blades directed up and away) is threatening enough to hold fey at bay.
I doubt a baby is dangerous, nor is a watch, so the claims mentioned in the situation are all contradicted by this very quote.
Quote:
All fey are susceptible to cold iron. They will not willingly touch it, and if they are forced to do so, they receive a -4 penalty to all actions while they remain in contact with it. Any damage reductions they receive are bypassed by attacks from cold iron. In addition, fey may acquire additional weaknesses over the ages, as they change cycles.
This one here confirms that it isn't just "some damage resist piercing", it's far more than just that.
Something else I read (but I cannot find the actual quote at the moment) was that a fey who knew someone was carrying cold iron would get them to took poorly and badly of that person. They would lose their respect for them. If I find the source, I'll edit the thread.. I recall reading it, I just can't find where at the moment.
What is up here? I roleplayed Saya the way I read she should be roleplayed, I think, which is why I am incredibly confused at what was said to me there. Anyone has lore or information that could help with making this clear? Roleplaying Saya the way I did was, to me, not by choice but instead just following what I thought was expected of a fey character. If I am told "Yeah, screw lore, cold iron is almost a non factor to feys, it's just something that passes through their DR" then at least I'll know I can react and roleplay differently.
What I read (on this very forum or elsewhere) all led me to believe that cold iron was like "THE SUPER FEY BANE". If it's just a minor nuisance on Amia, it'd be nice to make it clear.
