I was wondering what the DM Team and Community thought of the idea of allowing Staffs to be used as a light weapon for Weapons finesse? Really not sure if the staff weapon is hard coded or if it would give a huge advantage game wise, but the thought of a Monk with a staff, i see it being used with finesse, not brute strength, its not a club. Weight wise i see no issue, magically a thumb width staff would do the trick. Then another question arises, should you have to have the feats to duel wield a staff to try and balance back? Just really curious what you all thought about this.

That stuff is hard coded I am afraid. So hak work.

Also I am pretty much not for doing this anyway. Monks already have other weapon finesse choices and I think the one strength weapon they have adds a lot of diversity.

Balancewise, this is a bad move, really.

Unarmed-monks are already behind the 8-ball, so-to-speak with being very mechanically inferior. Making staves finessable means giving monks an option so much better than using monk gloves (warforged staves are +2d8 dmg, keen, mass crit +2d10, vs monk gloves, +6 ab, non-keenable, +2d6 ignorable dmg) that unarmed monks would be a stupid choice to even bother with in comparison.

Unarmed monks still don't have a "comparable" epic weapon to make them meaningfully competitive and warforged staves are the best "generic" weapons in the game, bonus-wise.

I'm not for it on the grounds of niche-hogging: Qstaff for STR, Kamas for dex, and STr for either (+wis for unarmed stunning fist stuff) seems like nice things to go off of, and I'm not keen on making Dex even better than it already is, honestly.
