"The drow, or dark elves, are an offshoot of the surface elves. Once a glorious nation, they were cast down during the Crown Wars for the terrible crimes they committed. They now live in the depths of the Underdark, the endless tunnels and caverns below Faerûn’s surface.

The drow are built much like surface elves – slim and lithe. They may be marginally smaller than their surface dwelling kin, though. Their dark skin and often white hair sets them apart from the rest.

Most drow worship Lolth, and Amia’s Ultrinnan is dedicated to Her. These evil drow compete with eachother constantly; manipulation, subtlety and betrayal are the tools of drow politics. In Lolthite society, status is everything. The cities are matriarchal, with females ruling over males.

While drow are generally chaotic, their society is very orderly on the outside, even to the extent of being totalitarian. They think of themselves as better than the barbaric lesser races, and will seemingly respect the hierarchy. However, this is only the facade: As long as you’re not caught, everything goes.

Those drow who abhor Lolth’s way usually flee to the surface, where they often turn to Vhaeraun. Some may take to the ways of Eilistraee, as well. These drow are quite unorganized and not common, though they flock to Amia in hopes of sanctuary at the Eilistraee’s Shrine located on the island."

Should you decide your character is not going to follow the matriarchal, orderly, totalitarian, status is everything kind of Lolthite drow, please note there will be some interesting RP coming your way.

Since I am playing a character of some power I will tell you that I do go outside the typical Lolthitie drow norm when players come in with characters that would clearly have been either killed at birth or banished from the city.

Any deformation without status is basically a death sentence in strict Lolthite society, it's considered a weakness.

Deformation = any drow that is not beautiful with ebony skin, alabaster hair, or is a anything other than pure drow.

Status = having the backing of a priestess or matron mother, whom by-the-way risks being seen as weak by having this type of drow under her protection.

Any heretical behavior is also cause for sacrifice or banishment. Please note that it's the duty of the priestess to look for and either "convert or destroy the nonbeliever Drow" (from the Lolth idol)

I personally prefer the "convert". I've been working to incorporate this into the Temple as the first thing to do. It's provided the catalyst for good RP.

My drow has encountered other drow that she would banish immediately since accepting them makes her look weak. However, OOCly I think "The player put time and effort into this character and they want to give it a go so how can I make it so it will work in drow society without making my drow a target for political backlash?" In two cases the RP has been delightful. Because these players seem to understand Lolthite Drow and how they do things.

I've been very impressed with players who understand drow politics and society then make their unusual character work really well. Black Dahlya did this brilliantly with Auron for instance. It wasn't easy I'd say, many times the RP consisted of other higher ranking males and females bullying Auron. However, Dahlya understood Drow society and managed to gain rank despite having unpure blood, as it were.

I clearly want anyone interested in playing Lolthite Drow to do so however it's not easy so please don't think I'm trying to run you off if you get called into the Temple, for instance. :) Please take a few minutes to read Iron Angles description and the postings available in the UD forums. It will help you tremendously. As will a tell in game or a PM to me if you have any questions.

Thanks to all the players brave enough to come and have a look around the evil, wicked, mean and nasty Lolthite Drow controlled UD. :)
