During the mid cycle, amid the normal height of mealtime activity, a commotion stirs Nec'perya. A dozen criers fan out throughout the city enticing the citizens to come listen to the Messenger of Power in front of the Temple.

Minutes later as people are gathering or wandering by, a notorious figure in his trademark red shoes mounts the tables in front of the temple with an engaging smile, a thankful nod and hand-sign of welcome to everyone present. With barely a pause to cast a minor enchantment to allow his voice to be heard by everyone, “Welcome, welcome. Your new Zanjur d'Yorn, your Messenger of Power, has... well a message.”

“The city thrives, building and renovations progress, and our ship and guards are faithfully providing continued security and prosperity in our city.” His smile falters a bare moment, “However, there is something missing... There is something of comfort and utility that marks a drow city apart and gives continuity that we do not have...” Trailing off, a gesture is made towards the center of the settlement. “A spire of timekeeping is a facet of every drow settlement and a symbol of our craftsmanship and community.” He lifts his head, taking a deep breath, “A new spire will be built to give our home a new symbol of our steadfast heart and our artistry as a people.”

His gaze sweeps the gathering, “To that end, the Messenger calls to all those with talent in the arts, be they with pen, color, or even arcane methods to come forward. It is time for the people to leave their mark upon the city. Ideas for the shaping of building exteriors, murals, and other art should be brought to the attention of my office.” Noding in the direction of the guards at the portal crystal, “The guards at the portal are instructed to receive all ideas and volunteers who are interested in making this place our home. A place to live.” A pause, “A place you can be proud to leave to your children.”

And with that, he hops off the table and remains for a time thanking those who attended and answering questions from the people.

A familiar face, that of Ulviir'aufein, speaks up amongst the gathered crowd.

"With space being so limited - Where does the messenger propose we build this structure?"

As the crowd gathers Rith'tar arrives and after delivering yet another head as a tribute to the idol of Selvetarm, along with a quiet prayer, he moves to the back of the crowd. His ever vigilant silver gaze scans the audience just in case someone gets the not very bright idea to cause trouble while the Messenger of Power speaks.

After Ulviirs comment, he just chuckles and shakes his head.

With a sly smile and a chuckle the messenger turns in Ulviir'aufein's direction, "Your desk is perhaps available then?"

Then turns to the rest of those gathered, "Let not those with defeat in their hearts stand in the way of leaving your own mark upon this soon to be great city. Next question?"

There is some discomfort in the crowd that has gathered. None speak directly to their social superiors, but a few of the murmurs are clear enough to make out:

•"Will the 'Nobles Houses' take and destroy the houses we worked so hard on clearing and renovating?"

•"Why are the merchants being kicked out of the square on every map we see? They can't mean to replace the new Iniquity, can they?"

•"Ulviir made his mark with helping lead the Spider Bearer project... And this one wants to give us a fancy time pi-" "Shove it! This will be good for us! A Wizard and a Sorcerer having it out in public over public works? We will be the Jewel in the base of the Dread Queen's crown if our Faern dedicate themselves to contest grounds that make our lives easier!"

Hearing the commotion, Miz'ri walked up the the northern ramp and kept her distance. The three vipers attached to her whip hissed quietly and stared at everyone as if they were a potential threat. She was was wearing her normal casual clothing, though even that clothing would immediately separate her from any commoner. Woven from beautiful cloth and silk threads that formed holds in a perfect corset that appeared to look like spiders, the meticulously crafted spider silk adorned even her common wear. She stopped dead of the crowd and listened curiously, letting the new Zanjur d'Yorn complete what he started without interruption.

The Archmage and Zanjur listens to more questions, nodding to the unasked murmuring in the crowd, smiling and pleased at the large turnout. "This one hears your concerns," Speaking out at a volume to carry over the murmuring, "On this issue, this gathering of ideas, there will be no reprisal to any with the courage to ask what they will."

He lets his words sink in for a span of breaths and continues, "This new initiative could have been issued as a simple notice." A nod to those gathered, "But such deeds as the people have performed and the journey all here have taken demands more respect than a few words on a parchment." His eyes sweep the crowd and his face takes on an air of sincerity, "Going forward, I intend to break the cycle of destruction and fear we have lived with since Ultrinin. Going forward, we build upon what we create. Going forward, we make this our place, our city, noble and commoner alike. A place that reflects our hard work, our perseverance, our culture." A dramatic pause, "So no, none of your work will be destroyed, only an artistic recording of our lives for the benefit of future generations."

He indicates the sorcerer Ulviir'aufein, "This one deserves great credit for leading the project that will provide trade and stability for the city in the Spider Bearer." Then in a tone of humorous admonishment, "I would not place bets on street fighting just yet, the Temple takes a dim view of public brawls, and aside from verbal sparring it would be unseemly to do so. Besides, as a houseless male," placing his hand on his chest, "I would need his Illharesses permission to disintegrate her property anyway."

He then bows in Miz'ri's direction while continuing, "We will adjourn this discussion shortly." Raising his hands so everyone can see him in the crowd, "Should anyone have more questions or need somewhat more privacy for their concerns and ideas, they can be asked in New Iniquity while I buy a round for everyone. Unless anyone finds that completely unacceptable?"

Nearby a certain figure would silently observe. She stood out of the way of the commotion, remaining separate and apart from all others, half concealed near the shops and bar at the edge of most's ability to see through the darkness. The armored feminine figure's head tilted slightly as she listened to the new messenger's words. In her usual silent fashion she watches, waiting, her stature calm and composed under the weight of the Dread Queen's power which she carries with pride. Should any of the common folk seek to approach her, it's highly likely they would meet some sort of response; and a non-violent one at that.
