To the residents of Amia and surrounding lands,
We would like to welcome back all staff, merchants, guild members, customers, magic users, and any one with interest in Mystra or arcane spell practices to the Monolith of Mystra.
We apologize for our long closure and would like to explain recent events that caused us to remain in lockdown for so long.
As many of you know, the Monolith was severely damaged quite a while ago in a massive attack. A large force faithful to Shar carried out this attack. Their exact reasons are still unknown to us, but they have been dealt a serious blow in return for their assault. It was shortly after this attack that we closed our doors, both for reconstruction of the monolith and for security purposes.
There have also been comments in regards to forbidden experiments, magical research, and dark artifacts that we'd like to address as well.
This was part of our issue with the Sharrans. We discovered an artifact of dark power that could apparently be used in a ritual to create a mortal Avatar. We did research this ritual, but in order to prevent it. As it stands now, the ritual wasn't performed, the artifact has been damaged beyond use in the ritual, and the site of the ritual has been completely destroyed to prevent this from ever happening.
Rest assured the Monolith works to stop such things from being used. Any necessary research in regards to these things is kept secret to prevent their release and abuse.
To those concerned, we'd also like to address comments about the portal that's used to transport people from floor to floor inside the Monolith.
The concern is the stress this puts on the Weave. In actuality, due to the use of an artificial ley-line stream, each use of the portal causes about as much distortion as a first circle spell. It's also not severely affected by an anti-magic field, allowing us it's use if we're attacked and such a field is used against us. Further more, using a portal instead of stairs lets us segment the monolith in case of structural failure, which is why it wasn't completely destroyed in the last attack.
We know there are more concerns and questions, and we'll be happy to answer as much as we can. If you've a question or request, you may schedule an appointment to speak with the Headmaster or send in a letter. If we are getting the same concern from several people, we will release another public statement to clarify any concerns.
Our reconstruction will soon be complete and our new facilities available to the public. While theats against the Guild will always be present, we shall always be vigilant.
Welcome back, all, to the Monolith of Mystra.
