As many are becoming aware, there is an infection spreading across Amia known as Quintessence. It is a magical infection originating from the Far Realm, noted by the presence of Quintessence, for which it is named - a silvery substance - within the blood.
There is a cure.
The cure is a relatively easily taught spell that can be cast by both divine and arcane means. Kohlingen is making best efforts to see this spell taught to those that can provide aid to their people. We must avoid a sudden influx of every single person on the isle capable of casting magic coming to our gates to learn as this could serve to overwhelm us and spread infection.
A few individuals capable of learning and teaching magic should contact either us or the Salandran temple to see about learning the spell, known as 'Invoke the Cerulean Sign.' It's urgent the infection be stopped, the infected be healed, and the source be found.
Anyone with information that could aid in the stopping of this threat, please contact me.
As for the infection itself, be on the lookout for people suffering the following symptoms:
- - Hearing high-pitched buzzing noises.
- Hearing voices speaking in an unintelligible tongue.
- Seeing objects appear to move unnaturally from one point to another.
- Seeing creatures just out of view that vanish when looked at.
- Food tasting strongly of salt or acidity.
- The smell of lightning in the air.
- Small amounts of silver in the blood.
Due your best to quell panic. Ensure people there is a cure. It takes a long time (over a month) before the infection becomes a risk to one's life, so people should not feel a pressing urgency to charge out and do anything reckless. We are taking swift action, but we will have time to invoke the cure so long as people stay calm.
A few warnings:
- Injury of any level can result in faster infection. Quintessence heals damaged parts of the body, replacing more blood with itself as it does so. Any fighting, from bar brawls to arena duels, should be stopped immediately.
Severely infected individuals may become resistant to being cured due to manipulations of the infection in their mind. Seeking the cure before severe infection results is a priority, though this will take some time to occur unless an individual has been repeatedly severely injured.
The infection can be spread through direct contact, and more heavily infected people will be more contagious. Isolating the infected is important.
People with skills in diplomacy and counselling should be on hand to calm any infected who are frightened by potential hallucinations. While it may be scary, the weird visuals and sounds aren't real. Aid will come soon as the cure is spread.
We will come together as an isle and reject the infection and those responsible. Stay strong, stay calm. Amia has pulled through worse. Let us end this threat together.
