*A plain looking man in plain gray clothing, and with a shovel propped on one shoulder, is seen frequenting various inns about the isle, making inquiries with artists and performers* *Some days later the same man is seen at the library, ink and quill at hand, a new piece of parchment on the scribe's desk. In a plain but simple script, he writes:* Dim stars fade and the sun crests bathing the ocean's expanse in crimson and gold She is there at the bow Hard and resolute like a ship's figurehead Queen of the High Seas Her eyes, dark and perilous as the watery depths peering at some distant place past or future A stray lock of raven hair crosses her face A black wispy veil Brushed aside with a finger She turns and sees me My will exposed Adoration transparent Graces me with a flashing smile And then I am warmed Not by the new day or the promise it holds But with a radiant gaze With a lift of her chin she beckons And I am drawn to her side Heady with a perfumed breeze We stand in silence Scanning a glowing horizon Thoughts shared through posture and movement What is this spell laid upon me that moves and compels? I have no answer, but I am hers and content. |

A pale, perhaps well-known, bard got up onto his feet in the center of the Nomad to sing to a certain special someone. The tune began soft and sweet, with a lady-like twist to it and his flashy charm. He introduced himself, and the title, and then began... without further ado...
The Five Ladies Sir-shah, Sir-say, Sir-shuh, Sir-shoo, Keer-kee If you've come across Five nights sitting in a glen, I advise you run. And then- If you don't, and stay, You may find yourself dismayed. For all the tales say... You may- Find a five of ladies- Their names are hard to get. Sir-shah, Sir-say, Sir-shuh, Sir-shoo, I can't get them all! Can you? They say Sir Shah was nobly born. Twenty nine, looks twenty eight. She dressed up as a knight because the boys there weren't straight. Sir Say was lovely, as the setting sun, with hair draped down her back. But lift those skirts and peek inside and you might find she had some things to hide! Sir Shuh was nothing special. An ordinary spade. She wore armor by day and night- See, I told you she wasn't bright. And then there's that Sir Shoo. Bawdy as a drunken sailor yet returned to port.. She dressed up like men because it brought her better sport! A musical interlude broke in, as the fourth lady-knight (or were they all ladies? What was going on again?) was described and sung.. it was a fiery, impromptu sort of moment- one where the bard jumped to his feet and struck the guitar strings as an impatient master- driving the momentum forward and forward and forward until everyone was sweating, was it a fever, was the fire too hot- and oh~! It broke again. It was relief. It was powerful. And the song swept up into a slower, melodic tune reminiscent of the beginning... You may see there is One lady-knight's name missing. That would be the last.. - Keer-kee! Sir Keer-kee, Keer-kee, Keeeeer-kee, We save the best for last you see! And, that's how you say her name. If you can't say it right, you should be ashamed! She is hot and fiery. Bold, and quick, and brash... She'll tie you in a flash... Right up against a tree! She seems to be quite nice, though, Underneath all the threats. She's caught herself a lovely man and she'll jump to your defense. She's loyal, deep and kind, with a sharp and agile mind. She's fearsome in a fight and got a tiger's bite. Keer-kee, Keer-kee, Keer-kee... The best of all the five. Thank your lucky stars that she's the only one alive. And with a stop, a dramatic end to the piece, Caron took himself off the stage and off into the night- hardly even awaiting applause or any rewards! Perhaps those were all for another time, or perhaps he was simply happy to have given a gift to someone special. |
