In recent days, several things have become crystal clear to myself about this Island. The Island is clearly run by a rulling class that seeks to keep things are true importance from you the common folk.

As many of you may already know. I was the victor of the grand melee. A victory I claimed by default, because others sought to make a mockery of the entire competition because they believe themselves best equipped to deal with a situation that threatens the lives of /everyone/ on Amia and the Islands beyond. Time and time again these people have come to me claiming that they are best able to handle the item I have come into possession of because they have /dealt/ with issues like this in the past, or so a certain unnamed War Knight would have me believe. And to this I say. No. You are not best equipped. None of you are, your organized factions seek glory, you seek another tale to boast about. Another thing to loom above the heads of the common folk.

Initally I was going to inform the general public of the Issue at hand. But I believe that this should be told to you by those who actively hoard the knowledge. Let officials from Kohligen and the War Knights come forth. Let them tell you how they would keep a possible earth shattering event a secret because they believe the masses are unable to hand such things. Do this and I will /consider/ giving the Horn.

The sometimes seen dirty, gross dwarf reads the notice in Cordor and grunts to himself as he picks his nose. "Fark! Ah be won'rin' 'o be farkin' worse. The lad 'o be farkin' braggin' o' 'avin' a farkin' spesh'l fing ter 'imself, er th' farkers 'o be doin' all 'is shet ahind 'em scenes er summat." He then just pulls his finger from his nose and wipes something green on the notice before belching and walking off.

A uniquely particular elven woman walks up to the posting. She reads the first two lines then wanders off, perhaps losing focus or lacking interest in reading. Doubtful she left due to conflicting personal opinions of the contents of the two lines. But left she did, without a mocking smirk or nod of confirmation.

A leathered papyrus is left at Kampo's Storehouse for Ryvvik. Any time the post is removed, if removed, it will simply be placed back up at a different location. As well as paid someone to keep an eye out for someone who touches it.

It is good you've won the material, Ryvvik. Keep it away from the rotten War Knights, and nobles of Kohlingen. They're interest, as you've stated, is a trophy. There are proper uses for the material that I desire, but don't care to have it. Keep it. Secure it. I'm sure someone will come to steal it.

By all means allow a new generation of inexperienced adventurers stumble in the dark until the world around them falls to flame and ash, because they are more deserving of the responsibility than those who have, for decades, kept our lands and and sometimes entire worlds safe. Our resources, knowledge, skill and influence is not earned for glory sake, but rather to be used for times like these.

I would like to begin by addressing War Knight Elwyn, It has come to my attention that your Order has only recently come to reclaim the Fortress lost to you for the better part of several years. Assuming this information is correct. How exactly do you intend to solve issues of such a grandiose scale when you can hardly keep your own affairs in check?

Honestly, my disappointment with you and several other factions on the Island and those beyond only grows worse by the day. I had hoped that this would spur one of you into speaking about the nature of the issue at hand. And if perhaps credulously I still hope that one of you will offer an explanation. But I am not so foolish as to wait forever. I have made plans to speak with several groups around the Island within a tenday, if you continue to hoard the knowledge of future events by the end of this tenday. I will make it public.

Finally I can only assume an official in Cordor has seen fit to remove any postings of these notices within the city proper. Do you honestly seek to blind your population? To hide potential threats because you're city has ties with these organizations? I beg that you put the postings back up. That you allow the people of the Cordor the opportunity to consider my words. To consider that their own fate is kept from them by unseen players seeking to keep knowledge from what they claim is the "wrong hands".

A new notice would be found pinned to the one now stationed with in Kampos. It as written in clear print by a practiced hand in a deep blue ink in large letters on a page of high quality parchment, signed at the bottom in a more scripted hand.

Vague warnings to the public given in condescension, fashioned towards groups who have attempted to sway you with their words be them honest or not, does little more than stir concern and paranoia among the denizens of the city. If you have something of relevant cause for concern then I urge you to bring it forth in detail along side the channels of distributive and administrative structure to better help inform the denizens of such threat, or dangers, and to allow those who have sworn to protect those denizens of the city to offer their service in ensuring their homes and lively hood is kept safe. By making a bold statement in such a manner, [referenced towards your original aforementioned postings], it seems you actually partake in such activities you vilify as if it places you on a moral high ground. If you have such concerns for the people of the isle or larger scale, I advise you do not pander to trivial games that skirt around the main issue at hand.

The postings were permitted to stand for 24 hours before removal so that they may be brought to the attention of the Council and the Guard of the city.
If you desire a more formal manner of addressing the denizens and the citizens of Cordor, then seek me out.

To the people of Amia,

While it would be my greatest pleasure to allow those with power to come forth with the secrets they so desperately conceal from you. Not just adventurers. But the parents, Cooks, farmers, the small folk of the Island. The people that truly make this place the glorious bounty that it is. While it would’ve restored some of my faith for those with power, I fear that my time here is short and what I know must be said so that it doesn't join me in the great void beyond.

Just after the Tournament about a tenday ago, after being accosted by both the Knights of Kohlingen and the WarKnights. I had the pleasure of speaking with one I’ve come to call a friend, Cor’Xak. While speaking with Cor’Xak in the hills near the Monastery he spoke of Dragons he’d seen near Ostland. Dragons he claimed that were in the midst of a grand game. A game several have come to whisper as Xorvintaal. In this game, the Dragons claim lands and pieces. Often these pieces are nothing more than mortal retainers and the like. But they use this to grow influence and score “points” in the great game.

Cor’Xak continued by telling me that the Isle is a piece that has yet to be claimed. A piece that has come into the focus of several of these great draconic beings. One of such was the former owner of the Draconic Horn given by the Bonfire society at the tournament. Cor’Xak spoke of a theory several he knew whispered about. A theory that held that the Horn was taken here because Amia had yet to be claimed. Taken here to lure the great beasts to the Island for a purpose that has yet to be known.

I had hoped that Officials would step forward because my knowledge is clearly incomplete several gaps still exist. With this in mind. I beg you /ALL/ to take a stand. Speak out about the silence and forced ignorance that has been imposed upon you. I ask that it is done peacefully, but bring the zeal that you would otherwise use in your daily life. Petition, let the nobles go hungry my friends. Let them understand what a life /without/ is truly like.

What we do or don't know, what we do or don't do, we work towards the safety of all on the isle. What will burdening every person, such as cooks and farmers, with step by step detailed information on investigations and situations still under way accomplish? And is that worth the expense of publically announcing such things to every other evil force on and around the isle?

Should every peaceful individual on this isle just trying to live their life be exposed to every single horror that's out there? Should we force them to watch or experience the same blood and evil that we have to witness? We have leaders to lead us, to govern in our name so we don't have to vote on every single miniscule issue of governance. We have protectors to protect us, to sacrifice their safety and innocence to spare the rest the gruesome reality involved in fighting evil.

There are more to secrets than the safety of an ongoing operation. There are more to secrets than protecting our knights who are trying to carry out their duties without ambush. We also keep secrets to protect the innocent, while we sacrifice our innocence. We shelter the isle with our own bodies. We bleed to keep it safe.

Is transparency important? Yes, but in balance. Whatever issues we face are always weighed carefully. How many more bounties would be placed on people like the one that was on your head were everyone else on the isle aware of every secret, every discrete operation, every sensitive problem? The chaos and harm that would create is beyond measure.

The people of the settlements of the isle trust their leaders and protectors. If they don't, they will speak up as necessary. What will your actions do aside from provoke more inexperienced adventurers into hasty action, or alert every other evil standing by of an opportunity to seize on?

Maybe we can come forward and tell the isle of the problems that have been happening, but consider that we ourselves may not know all the details either - that our operation is ongoing - that the safety of dozens or hundreds of people are at stake during this time should we shoot our mouths off.

But we are not so arrogant as to think we can solve every single problem on this isle. We do call for help when the situation is beyond our handling. We welcome the unity of all good people to help fight against the darkness in times of great need. We conduct joint operations with other settlements when their interests or safety are at stake. We realize we do not live in a void - and it's also that very realization that creates the unfortunate necessity of sometimes keeping secrets.

We are not here to suffocate people in silence. We are here to protect them from the countless dangers out there. Sometimes that means keeping quiet. It's a decision that is never made with joy.

Do not mask this as an attempt to protect people from anything more than an oppressive rule imposed by your organization.
Do you honestly believe the people of this Isle are so pathetic that they could not handle the issues you deem /too sensitive/ for them?
Who do you believe yourself to be?

Even when defending your organization you make an attempt at Pride. "We have leaders to lead us, to govern in our name so we don't have to vote on every single minuscule issue of governance. I find your arguments lacking any more substance than a plea for attention, an attempt to create drama, and an act of chaos that, as a monk, you should be ashamed of. We do not believe we rule over the entire isle. Only you would make that claim. Add to that, your flawed logic is a rather glaring double-standard.

You say we should inform everyone of everything that's going on, but we do not rule over this entire isle. By that token (and our own rights), what information we have and what investigations we conduct are utterly none of your business.

If we come across something that will effect more than our region, we speak with the other afflicted regions. Things that may fall under the category of isle-wide could be almost any generic evil person, faction, plan, whatever, out there. These are often ongoing issues and we can't waste our time to compromise our investigations by debating these things with all the inexperienced people out there who are looking to make a name for themselves or steal dangerous artifacts.

We will though always reach out to any region we think may be in specific danger. When we reach out to any other settlements, it is then up to them whether or not they wish to share these issues with outsiders. The only way informing the entire isle would make any sense is if it were completely ruled by one government - which it isn't.

In any case, I expect there is no answer here that I can give that will satisfy you, as a resolution doesn't seem to be your goal in my opinion. As such, this is the last reply I will issue in response to your "concerns".

If you are so troubled about the ongoing issues on the isle, perhaps you should find a group with a cause suited to your style of operating and do something more than trying to create dissent amongst the isles population. I hope you find order and purpose in whatever path you choose.

Hello Vera,

You're still not very good at lying, despite all the practice you do. Your play at pretending this man is only interested in stirring the pot for his own self-aggrandizing delusions will probably be convincing to your friends in the bubble of Kohlingen's upper caste, but it won't work on anyone still attached to reality. Here's the truth:

The island's 'protectors' in the governments of Cordor and Kohlingen, along with other politically connected groups on this island, have a long history of keeping the 'common' folk of the island in the dark about growing threats. This is what happens:

Kohlingen's upper caste learns of a new menace. You all tell yourselves that you're the only ones with the strength of will, wisdom, and power to face it. It's your duty, isn't it? Why else would you have such pretty titles? So you battle the threat in secret, shooing away other concerned and capable people that offer help because they're not in your bubble. You claim small, meaningless victories and suffer major losses. As the threat grows, you share the knowledge with other bubbles of politically connected groups in Cordor, Wiltun, or wherever else and they start from step one just like you did. You all use this to stroke your own already swollen egos for as long as you can before the threat inevitably becomes too great for you to keep secret anymore.

At the end of the day, you begrudgingly allow the lowly 'adventurers' to assist you(but only if they agree to recognize your own righteous superiority). They confront a threat that is even more powerful and dangerous than it was when you found it weeks, months, or years prior. They defeat the threat, whether it's Amon or the Quintessence, after you've extracted as much self-worth and 'glory' as you can from it. You offer them empty platitudes then retreat back into your bubble, stoney-faced as ever, and assure the island that you'll be there to protect them should another threat arise.

When one does, you repeat the cycle. Again. And again. And again. This is an old game that people like you have played for a very long time, Vera. Ryvvik isn't the first to point it out and he won't be the last because your game inevitably leads to more death and more destruction.

You don't honestly believe that the common folk of this island can't handle knowing what's lurking outside their homes, do you? This island has faced everything from invading armies and draconic conquerors to angry gods and devils. The Amian people are made of sturdier stuff than you seem to think.

If you truly want to protect them, do it by giving them the opportunity to protect themselves and prepare for the threats you and the rest are hiding from them.

To the people of Amia,

Today I write you in the hopes of bringing about action. Today I ask that you all take a stand. Pull the cloth from your eyes and realize that you are the power base. You are the heart and soul of this Island. Not the Nobles, not the adventurers but you. The ones these people would call peasants, today I ask that you realize that your actions allow these people to live a life of opulence while you toil in the fields, barely capable of feeding the children that will continue to fuel the economy that would allow these wolves in sheep's clothing to live off your hard work.

These so called protectors who believe themselves above you. The ones who believe you are incapable of hearing the troubles that loom beyond our doors. They coddle you, they believe you to be nothing more than children needing of a warm blanket and a false sense of security, because you are /incapable/ of dealing with these sensitive matters. Prove them wrong Amia. These people must be made to understand that. You are willing to take a stand. You are willing to step up when times are difficult. That you are not afraid of the boogeymen these people claim you are unable to even suffer the thought of.

I believe every single one of you should have the right to know what lingers in the Darkness. I believe every single one of you has the right to take up arms in the hopes of defending what you've created. Not out of pride or glory. But out of survival. This is the birthright of every Amian. Not just the chosen elite who hand themselves titles for the most meaningless of activities.

Today Amia I beg that you stand up. You make your voices heard. And YOU bring about this much-needed change.

Remember that war makes all participants stronger, but the weak cannot become stronger if they are killed before they may fully realize their potential. There is merit in encouraging others to take a stand for what their heart knows is right, but there is also cowardice in inciting them to skewer themselves against the swords and spears of real enemies. If you wish your citizens to stop relying on tin "protectors," train them to fight and protect themselves, don't incite them to "rise against." Think of them as "Civilian-Soldiers."

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been lied to long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the lies. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The following is added to Kampo's notice board.
Never before would I have found myself agreeing with a monk, yet here I am, agreeing with one about the misleading nature of the Isle's governors, and the abilities of the governed to break free.

Not long ago, I would have only agreed with a portion of what Ryvvik of the Old Order is stating, that the governors are only out for themselves, whether they are merchants, councilors, or Paladins. But I pointed out the ignorance of the general population; that the people of Kohlingen allowed themselves to be subjugated, to be corralled like cattle. But their corralling is a result of the governors themselves; they want the people to be ignorant, to control them, and t'was I who was the mistaken one.

Whenever a populace is aware of the issues at hand, they will respond in turn. Take when a tyrannical tramp from the D'Cordor line was allowed into the East Cordorian government. Rather than allowing themselves to be condemned to this reprobate state, the people of West Cordor, whose governor was denied a substantial vote as to whether or not to allow the abysmal authoritarian back in power, voiced their dutiful discontent, and before long, they acquired some autonomy, meaning that any former powers from the degenerate duchy would be less effective against them.

Thus, Ryvvik of the Old Order is completely correct. Cordor, despite its misgivings, is clearly morally superior to Kohlingen, for were anything so controversial were to happen in the "holy" city, it would be covered up immediately. Transparency is what keeps the people strong. While some may be content to live out their lives as they always had, these people, lacking ambition, would no doubt be the seasoned and older individuals; their lives have already been stolen away due to the blissful ignorance presented to them. Yet, to allow these governments to steal the lives of the younger, perhaps talented peoples, is a crime greater than what any in Kohlingen would say of, for example, Tarkuul.

Yet according to Kohlingen, they are the only righteous peoples on the Isle. A clear farce. Every knight I have encountered has been arrogant, self-righteous, sanctimonious, and holier-than-thou. They don't just believe themselves to be righteous, but they also believe themselves to be wholly superior the people they protect. Thus the conundrum is that we cannot rely on the authorities to do this; it is doubtful that they would ever give up their powers. Yet to rely on demagogues and the like, would only ensure that such people would be marked as a insurgents, and exiled and imprisoned for their defensive actions to help the common people. Yet t'would be a small price to pay, in the long run.

Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that our history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Take a stand brothers. Do not bow.

Secrets, always secrets here.

Why do all of you in power continue the hoard the knowledge when it /clearly/ has been nothing but a detriment to everyone. Settlements turning on each other. People slandering others, threats of murder. These are all symptoms of a greater illness here on Amia. The thirst to keep what little information so many of you hold private because others are so far below you that they could clearly offer /nothing/ in turn.

This has to change. He heard. Share. Let us face these threats as a whole and not as bickering children. Do not continue to feed the Goddess so many of you hate by actively hoarding secrets.

Every cycle is doomed to be repeated,

This is the fate of our Island. The fate of our people, if we do not take a stand. If we do not make ourselves heard, we are doomed to repeat it. Our children and our children's children will be dealing with the same issues we deal with today. Is this something you're willing to live with brother and sisters? Is this something you wish to be repeated upon your loved ones for generations to come?

If you truly wish to see change on this Island /you/ must make it happen. All of you must be the catalyst for that change.

Be it the Nobles of Kohlingen or the Elves of Winya. Nearly every corner of this Island is ripe with corruption. A corruption that guides this Island and those within it through its cycles. And yet, we the smallfolk live with the choices and the consequences of those choices. That they so unfairly make for us. I ask you, is this fair? Should we have to live in fear of the threats that they do not believe we are capable of dealing with? Or the murderers certain settlements shelter within its walls?

Enough is enough my fellow Amians.
Change happens now.
