Tale One: A New Beginning

Another summer sun begins to rise,
The final time my home will greet my eyes.
Again the constant feeling pulls my heart,
To say goodbye and make a fresh new start,
To learn just what it is to be Quessir,
The feeling that my time to leave is near!

ImageImage

Provisions were prepared the day before,
With anxious thoughts on what lies out my door.
A thought at childhood just now outgrown,
A look behind at all to now I've known.
A final prayer in Winya's mighty hold,
A final look at Nexus' water cold.

ImageImage

And thoughts turn back to good old days afar,
And thoughts turn now to how things really are.
Since times have for so long now gone down hill,
And even now they seem to get worse still,
The long, long road can't help but draw the eye,
The time has come to bid fair home goodbye!

Tale Two: Danger on the Road

As thoughts of travelers so often do,
I turn back to what as a boy I knew.
The distant night when father did depart,
With dreams of long adventure in his heart.
His face now fading in my memory,
His face now seen just in my reverie...

Image

Like him I have within me magic's light,
Like him I seek to master arcane might,
Like him I turn to Kohlingen today,
Like him, to learn the weapon smithy's way,
Like him, the weave and steel I will combine,
To forge a staff to be forever mine!

Image

I cross the Minmir brige to Kampo's store,
To book ship passage to the northern shore.
But from the distance sounds of desperate fight!
A dire battle comes into my sight!
An armored knight with sword in hand ahead,
Attacks a frightful monsterous undead!

Image

Bastard sword connects with risen bone!
Darkened scythe returns each sword thrust thrown!
Until at last the wounded beast departs,
The knight the victor by his cleric arts,
And all the watching crowd sighs with relief,
As I still watch the scene with disbleief!

ImageImage

And now I greet the captain of the ship,
And trade my precious gold for nighttime trip,
The sweat of fear is dried by salty air,
I bow my head and sing a thankful prayer,
And calming now, I go below to rest,
My mind re-focused on my magic quest.

Tale Three: A New-Forged Staff

In the night the ship comes to a stop,
Into the moonlight waters anchors drop,
The sights of Kohlingen rise to my face,
The city still in night-time's cool embrace.
My thoughts refocus as we all depart,
My heart prepared to learn the crafter's art!

ImageImage

In night-time lantern's glow ahead I see,
Two knights on hand to greet and speak with me!
A woman knight of skin the palest shade ,
A male knight who claimed the shephard's trade,
I ask directions to the weapon store,
And turn my step away from moonlit shore.

Image

And in the store a welcome sight draws near,
The trainer of the forge is Tel'Quessir!
The goodly elf agrees to teach his trade,
For me the master's art is then displayed!
For me the tricks and skillful arts amass,
As one, then two, then three full nights race pass!

ImageImage

Smack! The hammer falls on molten steel!
Blast! As firey furnace flames I feel!
Hiss! The water steams at metal's touch!
Crack! The magic weave within my clutch!
Until behold! In clearing steam and heat,
The gleaming magic staff is now complete!

Tale Four: A First Fellowship

With all the skill in Kohlingen now taught,
A passage down to Cordor town is bought!
And on the road out north of city gate,
A farmer tells me of his poor son's fate!
A first attempt to go avenge his son,
I nearly die from just a goblin!

Image

To Cordor square! And with the story told,
There forms a fellowship of heroes bold!
There's sailor Salty and there's farmer Will,
A fearless monk and Vrigdish's martial skill!
A halfling sneak with mask and deadly steel,
Whose name he asked me never to reveal!

ImageImage

The entrance to the cave is finally found,
A swirling spiral deep into the ground!
And mighty Vrigdish swings his double mace,
The halfling gives the kobolds death's embrace!
The fearless monk runs under Will's barrage,
With Salty guiding on the entourage!

ImageImage

The kobolds have the doorways sealed fast,
But Salty and the halfling cut right past!
And Will shoots bolts and bolts into the fray,
The monk's fast fists are opening the way!
And Vrigdish with a mace in each his hands
Brings easy end to kobold's evil plans!

ImageImage

At last the cavern narrows to an end,
But there a nest of kobolds do defend!
And as the fellowship runs in to strike,
I nearly die, impaled on a spike!
But when the epic battle's finally done,
We find the body of the farmer's son...

Image

The party boldly takes the magic gate,
The outside air and gentle rain await!
But kobolds fleeing death are all around,
So Salty uses rope to reach the ground!
And throwing up the rope to halfling friend,
First he then all of us the cliff descend!

ImageImage

And thinking back to all we've just now learned,
We see ahead the farmer's face concerned,
From kobolds lair we have indeed returned,
But now we say his son faced death unearned.
Hard truths to face for men who've stayed away,
From dangerous adventure's deadly fray.

Tale Five: Memory Songbook

Some songs I wrote of things I had in mind,
Since memories are all we leave behind.

Image

The Girl with Stars Upon her Cloak

Where are you, girl with stars upon your cloak?
Your face stays in my mind,
I used to see you walking in the streets,
Before the town declined.

I used to see the moonlight in your hair,
The moonlight in your eyes,
I used to see your head bowed down in prayer,
So beautiful and wise.

Your happy face in early days of joy,
Your dance at Winya's fair,
Your sadness as a soldier's love broke down,
Too stern for you to bear.

I saw you as you left the city gate,
And down at Nexus pass,
I took one final look at moonlit eyes,
Your footsteps in the grass.

Where are you, girl with stars upon your cloak?
The thought of you lives still,
I think of you in moonlight's silver light,
Just as I always will.

The Treehouse of the Fey

Up on Winya mountain,
Up above the falls,
A magic sight to see,
A magic house there calls!

High up in the treetops,
A magic tavern sits,
It's little often seen,
It's hid in magic mist!

Across the eastern passes,
A tavern ran by fey,
A flighty tavern master,
A magical buffet!

And there the bard's a fey,
To sing the song of choice,
A forest fancy song,
In forest fancy voice!

And winyan elves they come,
To drink under the moon,
To laugh at fey-borne tricks
To hear that fey-sung tune!

When times look in decline,
From worries of today,
Let's seek a night's escape,
At the treehouse of the fey!

Tale Six: Combat in the Outskirts

The summer sun returns to heat the air,
And drives the rains away from Cordor square.
And there a knight's fair face is mared in scowl,
The kobold Gleeg is charged with murder foul!
The Dawnguard Owen's honor's put at stake,
A duel's challenged outside Cordor gate!

ImageImage

The crowd moves slowly over Cordor's bridge,
To see the Dawnguard fight upon the ridge!
The kobold Gleeg and Terk his kobold friend,
The cliff outside the gates they do ascend!
But as the Dawnguard readies for the fight,
The coward Gleek breaks into coward flight!

ImageImage

As Owen runs and desprately gives chase,
The onlookers run after quick in pace!
But at the end the crowd stops, mouth agape,
It's Terk instead, a minotaur in shape!
And with his taunting, all he does offend,
So Stripes attacks, his Tia to defend!

ImageImage

The halfling Hope calls flame down from the clouds,
It falls haphazard into gathered crowds!
And captain Salty bears the firey rain,
And as a bystander he falls in pain!
To captain's aid come Salty's shocked allies,
As halfling Hope tries to apologize!

ImageImage

And Stripes fights minotaur's much stronger might,
But never does he think a thought of flight,
And right up till his death from beastly axe,
For Tia's honor still he mounts attacks.
The birds return as now the fight's complete,
While we go to the temple, wounds to treat...

Tale Seven: An Orcish Adventure

A cycle filled with long adventure ends,
And to the Long and Short the group descends,
To nurse our wounds with Cordor's finest ale,
To listen to a bawdy Cordor tale!
And of the stories heard that fateful night,
A story of the northern Orcish might!

Image

A rumor of a sizable reward,
That for orc heads the Cordor guards reward
A fellowship of travelers is formed,
And of the guard's reward we're all informed!
Fair Tia and our new companion Mark,
Both come as Salty, Stripes and I embark!

ImageImage

To one like me, new to adventure's call,
The task was clearly not easy at all,
But this strong group, with training long and hard,
This chronicler they well indeed did guard!
As hoards and hoards of orcs stormed cavern hall,
They one by one against brave blades did fall!

Image

But up ahead a deadly sight we find,
A giant orc in giant hall confined!
He rises from his icy throne to fight,
His icy aura was a frightening sight!
My friends rush in, in magic light's embrace!
A look of total awe upon my face!

ImageImage

There's Tia with her elven bow and axe!
There's Salty's scimitar and spell attacks!
Of orcs Mark's ranger skill makes easy work!
And Stripes slays hoards of orcs with mighty dirk!
An orcish priest falls in our deadly fray,
My mighty friends have one more won the way!

Image

// thanks for the correction Bjorn, sorry Tia!

Tale Eight: Rainsong

The summer clouds return to Cordor town,
And soon the summer rain is pouring down.
It fills the gaps between the pavement stones,
It colors buildings in its rain-soft tones,
It brings the rain-soft smells into my nose,
As commerce in the city market slows.

Image

But thoughts of travel come into my mind,
To see what on the rainy road I'll find,
The city gates and ramparts pass behind,
And with them life in city streets confined,
And feeling free, I stand and close my eyes,
Sweet symphonies of smells to me arise!

Image

The pitter-patter raindrops on my face,
Familiar Bendir road my steps retrace,
Familiar ruins soaked in rainy flow,
That whisper of the people long ago,
That whisper of their happy lives long past,
That our lives too forever will not last.

Image

The waterfall comes down from mountain high,
The water spray and rain both in the eye,
The river water too a journey takes,
Its own familiar passageway it makes,
Familiar paths pass everything we know,
Just like the rains in river-water's flow.

Image

And like my thoughts the rains begin to fade,
The rain-soft landscape under sun displayed,
The rain-drops from the leaves on high tree-top,
Their trickle-flow and fall begin to stop,
As I begin to end my journey's flow,
On seeing Bendir's rain-soft vale below...

Tale Nine: Sally's Song

Into the inn at Bendir town I turn,
Some rest from weary journey there to earn,
And there I met a farmer standing guard,
It's Sally Gubbins-Torrowfire the bard!
A lucky find! And so I asked her there,
To share a tale with me in Bendir square!

Image

In faraway Caraigh her tales begin,
A double-fronted battle fought therein!
Alliances of goodly fighters brave,
There fought the creatures risen from the grave!
What greedy men unleashed upon the land,
A Taint unleashed by madman's foolish hand!

And so the allies gathered for the fight!
The forces of the foes came into sight!
But right away an ally charges out!
"Not yet! Come back!" Her worried allies shout!
No choice but for the allies to charge on,
Unknowing, into foe's dark trap they've gone...

For as they fight, there suddenly appear
Some shadowdancers swift behind the rear!
They make the most of opportunity,
And break up allied forces's unity!
Then one by one the allies bravely fall,
To Sally too comes death's unlooked-for call...

Her song of courage still upon her breath,
As vision fades and darkens into death,
The sound of allies into silence goes,
As living soul into the Fugue now flows.
Her allies' fight continues to unfold,
By other bards their stories must be told.

Her tale turns to Luiren's storied towns,
To Stronghearts and to Ghostwise tribal grounds,
And how they once did battle on the plains,
Where now so little of the tribes remains,
Into wide Faerun then they did depart,
To live their lives from Luiren's winds apart.

And Sally sings of wall and rain and hill,
Of Bendir and of distant Ceyren's Mill,
I listen close, entranced, as hours fly,
As magic moonlight night slips quickly by!
A joy to hear her songs under the stars,
About this wide and magic world of ours!

Tale Ten: Danger in Caverns Deep

The Bendir road again to Cordor goes,
But what surprise to see the falling snow!
Cold weather sends the people back indoors,
And leaves just hearty warriors outdoors!
Among these warriors in Cordor square,
Two very boastful men-at-arms were there!

Image

With stories of a dragon slayed that day,
Exotic deeds the two of them relay!
There's Tarles the monk who fights with just his fist,
And Dhargas his companion to assist!
The other listeners begin to stare,
But in the end they say it's just hot air!

ImageImage

Instead of dragons powerful and large,
Into the Bloodmoon lands today we charge!
There mighty Dhargas fights off orcish waves,
As Tarles goes charging into orcish caves!
Through mine and cavern deep the duo fights,
We come to signs of evil orcish rites!

Image

But as they fell the chieftain of the clan,
An exit out of cavern deep we scan,
We find a rope and climb to outside air,
But Mylock ambush waits for us up there!
Of metal beasts shaped like a mighty bull,
These valleys and these hills we find are full

Image

And now into the Mylock cavern deeps,
The party of adventurers now sweeps,
But as I run to catch up to the pair,
A dire trap of lightning-bolts lurks there,
And stepping on it running through the halls,
Crack-kow! My blackened lifeless body falls!

ImageImage

The duo pulls my body from the wall,
My soul with scroll they try then to recall,
And stunned I sit up burning in great pain,
And see the darkend floor where I had lain,
From mind passed any thought of our great quest,
My weary body slumps down into rest...

Image

We come now to the end of darkened lair,
To be more careful certainly I swear!
So glad to still be breathing living air,
A portal takes us back to Cordor fair,
I make a path straight to the Nomad Inn,
For rest and wine and women there within!

Tale Eleven: Reunion

How soothing travel is to busy souls,
In distant lands one finds most soothing strolls,
But nothing's sweet like coming home again!
To greet old friends and ask them how they've been!
To pick up as friends left off way back then,
Once more to be part of the group again!

And as some tales of yester-year are told,
The yester-years in storied song unfold,
And bittersweet as yester-years recalled,
And bittersweet as friendships old were stalled,
But hopeful now as old friends gather round,
Familiar voices in the dale resound!

In Bendir fair some old friends meet once more
And tell fair stories of the days of yore,
So sweet the sound of stores of old days,
That rise once more from distant foggy haze,
As freindships old pass into reborn times,
Sweet past with present friendship surely rhymes!

Tale Twelve: Memory Songbook

Some songs I wrote of things I had in mind,
Since memories are all we leave behind.

Image

Bards and Actors

Bards get all the glory,
Bards have all the fun,
They soak up all the splendor
And leave the writers none!

In Triumvir they rule,
They're kings and lords and earls,
And in Triumvir bars,
They get Triumvir girls!

Actors get the glory,
Actors get the fame,
But of the lowly playwright
Nobody knows his name!

And after lowly playwrights,
The girls never chase,
Instead they all are after
That actor's pretty face!

So here's to all the writers,
That people never see,
Raise up your drinks and glasses,
And toast them now with me!

The Archery Fair

The morning sun is rising,
It shines on hill and tree,
The longed-for day is coming,
The fair of archery!

And slowly elves are stirring,
First one, then two, then three,
From tree-top house they're coming,
The Winyan fair to see!

The barefoot maidens walking,
With flowers in their hair,
They come to fields dancing,
A beautiful affair!

The wealthy merchants chatting,
With wealthy elven wives,
All thought of business fading,
All thought of busy lives!

Their dusty tomes and chanting,
The wizards put aside,
And with the other Winyans,
Some archery is tried!

The longbow all are bearing,
You never see a short,
The elves in Winya living,
Are not the shortbow sort!

And never is competing,
preventing common fun,
Together celebrating,
Devisive thoughts they shun!

The magic day is ending,
With spirits calm and free,
As fondly they're recalling,
The fair of archery!

Tale Thirteen: An Ode to Bendir Dale

The more I travel round this isle of ours,
The more in traveling I pass the hours,
The more to travel's problems I succumb,
The surer of this one thing I become:
That Bendir Dale is the finest spot,
A finer place on Amia there's not!

The people there are real and genuine,
The harsher element the dales shun,
The gentler ways are practiced daily there,
The gentler spirits Bendir ways repair,
The gentler folk the dale does invite,
Under the gentle moon and starry light!

And under windmill turning, turning on,
Beside the river's cool water drawn,
There rises buildings in simplicity,
Familiar buildings comforting to see,
Familiar buildings welcome to a guest,
No finer place for travelers to rest!

No matter where my travels carry me,
Familiar faces greeting me I see,
Familiar sounds of water in the well,
Familiar apple orchard's happy smell,
Familiar voices fall into the ear,
From friends who have so quickly become dear!

For as the gates swing open they reveal,
A magic place still filled with happy zeal,
And apple orchard fragrance fills the air,
The magic smells a weary heart repair,
A magic place where good things still prevail,
How lucky are the hin of Bendir Dale!

Tale Fourteen: A Trip to the Forge

The peaceful summer days pass gently by,
How sweetly days pass under Bendir's sky!
A wanderlust returns into my heart,
Desire again to practice forging art,
Since from two friends requests for magic blades,
I've put off for too long in Bendir's glades!

Image

A pleasant summer walk to Kampo's store,
To book a ship to Kohlingen once more!
And on the summer road the flowers sweet,
Their happy mix of smells my senses meet,
And as the road there narrows to an end,
The flower smells with sea smells start to blend!

Image

Familiar sounds now as the trip begins,
The billow of the sail catching winds,
The calling of the sea-gull high in flight,
The groaning of the sea-ropes pulling tight,
The splashing of the ocean's salty spray,
The creaking of the wood in ocean's sway!

Image

And soon the walls of Kohlingen appear,
The slip glides slow and steady to the pier,
I disembark onto the stony street,
The elven trainer at the forge to meet,
My magic mithral ingots forge awaits,
And magic blade and axe that forge creates!

Image

And then I notice just how much I've learned,
Of magic and the weave since I returned,
This time the forge more easily obeys,
Commands to magic fires there ablaze,
Commands of magic forging to perform,
Commands to magic mithral to reform!

Image

And first from magic fire out I bring,
A dwarven axe for Dhargas now to swing!
In magic runes the name at his request,
Is "Under Stone," and into blade it's presed!
Below I carve a scene of Dhargas brave,
Defending us from foes in Mylock's cave!

Image

And with a scimitar my labors end,
A gift to Salty as a trusted friend!
A tribute to his sailing skill displayed,
The name of "Cresting Wave" I give the blade!
Our travels then I never will forget,
To us may fortune many more permit!

Tale Fifteen: A Forest Dark and Deep

It's thunder, lightning, rain and hail stones!
The Cordor rain-storm soaks me to the bones!
I run through streets with hands above my head,
Into the Nomad's shelter warm I tread!
A shake of rainy clothes inside the door,
A flask of Nomad wine's for me in store!

Image

And as I dry and rest my rain-soaked feet,
A pair of lovely travelers I meet!
There's Phoebe with her flowing silver hair,
And Galia with longbow drinking there!
Then after talk in Nomad's bar confined,
Adventure as a group we go to find!!

Image

And out under the Cordor thunder-storm,
Of deep and darkest forest they inform,
A forest of the darkest Malar shrines,
To forest dark a magic portal shines!
A hin companion Roscoe joins the group,
But soon again thereafter leaves the troupe!

Image

And there I witness sights of martial skills!
There Galia the skies with arrows fills!
As arrows fly, comes graceful Phoebe in,
And round and round the helpless foes she spins!
The dancing of the blade-dance she performs,
While dodging Galia's swift arrow storms!

ImageImage

The Malarites call fire from the sky!
The magic fire nearly blinds the eye!
But as the fire magic round us clears,
Another brave companion to us nears!
It's Al, whose full name is by far too long,
And into Malar's cave he comes along!

Image

Through many foes of strangely changing forms,
Through caverns dark and narrow party swarms,
Until we come upon a darkened throne,
Where sits a mighty chosen beast alone!
To him runs mighty Al with song and sword,
And there he slays the mighty Malar lord!

Image

A victory most glorious indeed!
And into secret door we all proceed!
Some rest most well deserved the party finds,
Some rest for weary bodies, weary minds!
And soon the heroes go their separate ways,
And I to Nomad go to sing their praise!

Tale Sixteen: The Farmer's Guiding Hand

As blinking stars and darkness come in night,
The night-time sound replaces day-time sight.
The cricket chirps as night-time creatures stir,
Their gentle footsteps in the darkness sure,
The gentle sound of night-time rivers' flow,
For even in the night they never slow.

But like the creatures in the night-time air,
There is another creature stirring there!
For night to farmers is no time of rest,
For always tending land is farmers' quest!
In farmer's fields work is never done,
The farmer works in night or in the sun!

For no one knows the land like farmers know,
The quiet reasons crops in soil grow,
The quiet land speaks whispers in their ear,
The quiet earthy whispers farmers hear,
The rhythms and the seasons farmers see,
They listen to the land so carefully!

For every living thing starts first as seeds,
And every living thing protection needs,
And every living thing so slowly grows,
From tiny seed first everything arose,
And farmers guide the whole great cycle through,
For farmers know the world's ways most true!

And farmer Eilonwy grows cotton bush,
Through soil Roidoc's carrots slowly push!
Because they guide the plants from tiny seed,
To mighty plants that soil and water feed,
Because to plants they give their nourishment,
To farmers are the land's great treasures meant!

Tale Seventeen: An Electric Maze

An evening rest in Bendir passes by,
And morning sun returns to light the sky,
As I go out the Dale's swinging gate,
It seems as if adventure is my fate,
As on the road to Cordor town I see,
My old companions just ahead of me!

Image

It's Galia and Phoebe on the way,
And Aaron with his greatsword on display!
Off to the forest of the Malarites,
To find some treasure and a couple fights!
They lead me through the orcish Bloodmoon land,
And Brad the warrior there joins our band!

Image

As soon as darkened forest comes to view,
We spot a cavern passing mountain through,
But not a normal cavern it appears,
Strange magic sounds are rising to our ears,
And inside cavern's entrance: stranger sights!
A magic bridge with shafts of magic lights!

ImageImage

And even stranger still are all the foes,
Some strange and evil creatures no one knows!
Some strangely shapen armor suits arose,
A ghostly form through ghostly breezes flows,
It's much too dangerous there I suppose,
But fearless Brad into the cavern goes!

Image

Strange magic mirrors line the cavern halls,
And into mirrors each companion falls,
Like slipping into still and windless lake,
This magic mirror passageway we take!
There Phoebe slays strange foes with whirling blade,
And Galia's great prowess is displayed!

ImageImage

And at the end we find another throne,
An evil undead wizard made of bone!
In charges Brad to fight the mage head-on,
As Galia and Phoebe longbows don!
But evil wizard blocks attacks of ours!
The epic battle lasts for many hours!

Image

Then finally the wizard's magic fades,
His magic shield finally decays!
Brad's flaming scimitar with mage connects!
No more our arrows now his ward deflects!
And finally the wizard we defeat,

Tale Eighteen: New Friends and Desert Sands

A peaceful day is spent in Cordor square,
Some drinks with Leon at the Nomad there,
Then Galia and I take to the road,
A trip though swampy Troglydyte abode,
And in the winding cavern's hallway bends,
We find there Kael and his band of friends!

Image

But as they have explored the cavern mound,
And burdened with the treasure that they found,
It's back to Cordor market with their loot!
Amelia trades finds for armor suit!
While Fayte finds rest from long and swampy route,
Melissaye sings while there I play the lute!

Image

But soon the fellowship goes seperate ways,
No doubt to form back up in coming days!
Then rumor of a desert quest comes in,
To Galia and I in Bendir Inn!
And as we leave we see a welcome sight,
It's Brad our friend of legendary might!

Image

A temple in a distant desert land
Seeks rings from ancient ruins in the sand!
The three of us decide to take the quest,
Our mettle in the desert sands to test!
A trip to Guldorand we three then make,
A portal to the desert lands to take!

Image

As soon as we emerge in desert heat,
The burning desert winds against us beat,
And from the burning sands os Nes'ek street,
Into the shady temple we retreat!
And there we find the rumors heard were true,
An old and deadly curse we must undo!

Image

We rest a moment under desert stars,
And then set out to find these minotaurs!
And true to form, bold Brad to battle goes,
Without a thought of fear from deadly foes!
And Galia the Swift makes us look slow!
She fills the skies with arrows from her bow!

ImageImage

But there our darkest dangers did begin!
It's quicksand! And it pulls us all within!
Tymora surely smiled on us then,
Since then we stood on stable ground again!
We found outselves on stable ancient floor,
With danger from the minotaurs in store!

Image

These were the ruins we were meant to find!
Through dark and deadly passageways we wind,
And there, the chieftain of the minotaurs!
Our passage back to desert air he bars!
Behind him ancient rings were there confined,
The ones the temple asked us there to find!

Image

And Brad goes bravely charging for the foe,
As Galia rains death from mighty bow!
The cheiftain falls! We conquor in the fight!
And up a rope once more into the night!
Back to the temple to present the ring,
And of my friends' brave deeds I go to sing!

Tale Nineteen: The Longest Day of Adventure

I look around my room in Bendir's Inn,
Today another tale to begin,
But first I take a look around the place,
My books and writings filling up the space,
But knowing I am in the Dale fair,
Is quite enough to keep me happy there!

Image

And leaning back into my bedroom chair,
I think at all the tales to declare!
It started with friend Leon in the square,
He told a tale surely from thin air,
That in the forest deep there was a place,
Where forest nymphs were living we could chase!

Image

Across a bridge most rickety we go,
All caution in the quest we did forego,
And looking for the nymphs instead we found,
A forest clearing, magic all around,
A mystic tree in center of the way,
So beautiful I don't know what to say!

Image

It seems the forest this tree did encase,
A gentle center forest did embrace,
the air was thick with magic all around,
The place was quiet there without a sound,
Just looking at the tree my heart did ache,
All thought of forest nymphs I did forsake!

Image

As we explore the clearing there I see,
A curious event did come to me,
For as I spoke to Leon there his eyes,
A crimson deep within them did arise!
But is it due to things he can't control,
Or does it speak to something in his soul?

Image

I shake my head and now make my way back,
And find an armored knight on forest track!
I greet him with all gracious courtesy,
And then he takes his helm off suddenly,
And what an unexpected thing to see,
It's my friend Elor playing tricks on me!

Image

We laugh and joke for a great while there!
A joy a story with a bard to share!
And gracious Elor lets me join his plan,
Disguised now to look like a knightly man!
But as we armored go about the land,
Our reasons forest folk always demand!

Image

Defeated in our plans we then retreat,
To Eilistreean shrine, and what a treat!
To magic shrine where I had never been,
New friends I meet there magic shrine within!
There's Miriah and Rayne who in shrine dwell,
And Faethor, Elor's friend, and Eretheil!

Image

We spend a magic moment at the shrine,
And finally depart when lights decline,
And I go off to find a little wine,
And in Triumvir once again I find,
Not only Faethor brave was standing there,
But also Brad at Triumvir's main square!

Image

So into the tavern go we then all three,
But there my friends begin to disagree!
A state of challege between them exists,
A challenge there to battle with their fists!
And both men rise to battle friendly bout,
But Faethor after close fight is knocked out!

Image

But praise Tymora both of them are friends,
And after fist fight both make their ammends,
And after drinking just a few rounds more,
We as a group decide to go explore!
And through some trick of wine's engaging hold,
We end up north in Guldorand most cold!

Image

And as if we were seeking opposites,
We come upon where magic portal sits,
And stumbling into it we quickly go,
To distant Khem under sun's burning glow!
But this time Brad leads deep into the sands,
To distant foe and distant desert lands!

ImageImage

There mighty Brad brings death to undead hoards!
And Faethor swings his axe with magic wards!
And as we pass the sand fills up our boots,
And even worse, some spikes the plant there shoots!
And each time that we pass those awful plants,
We get a hundred spikes stuck in our pants!

Image

We pass into a whispering dark rift,
With strange and deadly ghost-forms there adrift,
And as they pass, our inner feelings change,
They put into our heads thoughts very strange,
We suddenly feel anger, spite and doubt,
Until out of that rift we wander out!

Image

On and on our journey distant goes,
Through cave and tomb and shores that seas enclose,
We ride on back of giant lizard there,
To some oasis graced with cool air,
We find some men who sell some mushrooms odd,
And into strangest dream we soon all nod...

Image

And in the end when legs will walk no more,
We three return, our bodies to restore,
Our minds after the longest trip to rest,
A day with which I was now most impressed!
And now in Bendir's Inn all I recall,
And finally obey rest's most gentle call...

Tale Twenty: The Triumvir and Nevareh's Neeaeh's Neveah's Nevaeh's Tale

The sun comes rising over Bendir fair,
And brings its morning light into the air,
But yesterday's long travels wore me out,
Enough to make me want to lie about!
But finally I rise to greet the day,
And down to Cordor town I make my way.

I go into the market hall to shop,
Then next to Triumvir, some tales to swap,
And there I found some friends around the square!
All telling stories round the campfire there!
Friend Al was first to sing a happy song,
As dancers tried their best to dance along!

Friend Elor and fair Alyson both dance!
And Nevaeh as well gives it a chance!
While Kael and friend Faethor both watch on,
We danced and sang and listend until dawn!
And Lyric and then Espiel both came,
And Kasumi and Kurchin of great fame!

But happy songs were not all that were told,
As Nevaeh told storied tales of old,
Some stories of old battles that she fought,
Some stories of the evil that men wrought,
The evil that arose here long ago,
And rose once more throughout the land to go!

Her story started with an ancient foe,
A devil sealed under water's flow,
But as the water drained it rose again,
It's evil aided by some evil men,
And out it went to spread destruction wide,
The death of all in Amia it tried!

They learned that it must be again submurged,
But evil groups a-plenty then emerged,
These evil groups of men fought without pause,
And aid the dark Undoer in its cause!
A battle then both long and grave was fought,
And finally its evil came to naught.

But many, many died against the foe,
To happy homes never again to go,
Their happy lives cut short for all our sake,
Defense of all our homes their lives did take,
And though Undoer was defeated then,
There is no end to plots of evil men...

Her stories then to Banite battle pass,
At Banite base the goodly forces mass,
With naval ships approaching down the coast,
Large engines for a siege join land-bound host,
And both begin to batter down the walls,
And force the Banites out from darkened halls!

The forces of the foes slip out the back,
And at the rear of goody host attack!
A battle fierce and wild there was held,
But finally the evil was expelled,
And quiet came again to Guldorand,
And peace came back to there and lands beyond.

But darker stories still were to be told,
As Nevaeh spoke stories dark and cold,
Count Monteguarde and undead underlings,
Attacked the land with dark undying things!
The vampires then raised more of their kind,
With darkest power and control in mind!

The coven dark fair Cordor then attacks!
And Cordor guard then rises up and acts!
They go to warn the citizens in town,
To stay indoors and lock their houses down!
The vampires come swiftly into sight,
With all their dark and grave unholy might!

But then the coven uses foulest trick,
From citizens the children they do pick,
and with others of those unlucky souls,
The vampires with hearts as black as coals,
Send children out to fight defenders brave,
A crime against all things most foul and grave...

The children of the town who weren't so cursed..
Come running after former friends at first,
The darkest scene of pain and misery,
As none can find a way to set them free,
So many townsfolk die that sorry day,
A heavy burden on all hearts did weight...

Brave Nevaeh told stories for so long,
Brave stories of her battle against wrong,
She said that most of evil coven black,
Was killed back then to end their dark attack.
But on her heart the tale was too rough,
And thoughts turned then to bright and happy stuff.

As Nevaeh ends epic story there,
And all there speak about the brave affair
I cannot help but feel I owe a debt,
To those who fought against the undead threat!
Three cheers to Nevaeh and all those brave,
Who fought our homes and lives back then to save!

Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

Tale Twenty-One: Deadly Adventures in the Swamps

A quiet couple cycles drift on by,
So peacefully spent under Bendir's sky,
But then adventure calls me out once more,
And I meet friends there outside Bendir's door!
I find there Galia the swiftest elf,
And Rev who's keeping mostly to herself!

Image

The three of us decide to wander wide,
To distant deadly swampy lands they guide,
Where lives a deadly tribe of lizardmen,
And so we take to battle there again!
The dual swords Rev swings with greatest grace,
As Galia shoots arrows fast apace!

ImageImage

But after this we go our seperate ways,
And into dark and looming cave I gaze,
A cave I saw once several cycles back,
But inside there were signs of an attack!
I followed in the trail of dead foes,
As deep into a library it goes!

Image

And in this darkened library I found,
Some burning, walking corpses all around!
And fighting them, a duo strong and brave,
Who sent these corpses back into the grave!
It's Bel, a friend I'd met that very day,
And Quick a kobold with his wings of grey!

ImageImage

The two agreed to let me come along,
And strided off into the undead throng!
But in the light of burning undead foe,
A door behind a bookcase fires show,
And into this strange door we three then go,
And find a ball of magic light aglow!

Image

As my companions stare at this strange light,
Confusing images come into sight,
But as I take a look at magic ball,
The images become things physical!
It seems this is a strange and magic store,
And after shopping, back we go explore!

Image

We cross some bridges over darkened falls,
And battle into evil cavern halls!
We fight around an evil altar there,
As snaky creatures' magic fills the air!
Their magic missiles and their acid spray,
Comes shooting out and forces me away!

Image

But not for long can one as weak as I,
Endure spells like this that fill the sky,
And caught in blasts of acid there I fall,
And once again my soul from Fugue they call,
And wounded, having failed battle's test,
I take a portal out to get some rest!

Tale Twenty-Two: Triumvir Songbook

Some songs I wrote for friends both old and dear,
Who sing and dance inside the Triumvir!

Image

Real Love

Of love just the beginning,
Is all you ever hear,
We sing of early feelings,
The start of love so dear.

But love is like a journey,
And as you go along,
The sights just like the feelings,
Don't stay the same for long.

But real love never changes,
As feelings always do,
No matter how they're changing,
Real love will see it through.

Love's more than merely feelings,
It's nothing quite that cheap,
A promise always valid,
A contract that we keep.

A contract that we'll be there,
When our mere feelings wane,
A promise that we'll be there,
No matter what the pain.

Don't sing just of beginnings,
As is a singer's style,
Don't sing of merely feelings,
That last for just a while.

For love means I'll be with you,
Through feelings uncontrolled,
Not just at the beginning,
Until we both grow old!

Alyson and Elor Dancing

The Triumvir is filled
With sounds of happy friends,
A night of song and laughter,
Again Triumvir spends!

Then Al takes up his lyre
To play a master's song,
His master voice then rises,
And starts to sing along!

And all my friends are smiling
From hearing what he plays,
All turn from outside problems,
And turn to happy days!

Then Elor standing nearby,
Gives Alyson a glance,
He stands and smiles to her,
And offers her a dance!

She rises from the grasses,
And stands with happy glee,
A bright and shining vision,
So beautiful to see!

And Elor softly reaches,
To take Alyson's hand,
And leads her in the dancing,
A dance that's bright and grand!

As Alyson goes spinning,
In Elor's graceful arms,
She glows with happy laughter,
Delighted by his charms!

Her crimson cloak is gliding,
With every twist and twirl,
As Elor too is captured,
By his elegant girl!

Their dancing colors blending,
With Al's colorful sounds,
The senses swirl together,
The beauty all surrounds!

And as I sit there watching,
The happy scene unfold
The magic of Triumvir,
Then has me in its hold!

Their happy dance is ending,
And for them now we cheer,
A happy magic evening,
In magic Triumvir!

Tale Twenty-Three: A Trip to Ruathym

A quiet time of rest does surely prompt,
A look back to adventures in the swamp,
When Kael brave led Trimvir's bold friends,
Back to the swampy cave the foes to clense,
But frightful leader of that swampy cave,
So nearly sent us all down to the grave!

Image

But after rest and tending wounded soul,
From Bendir Inn again I rise to stroll,
And on the road I meet there friend Andrew,
And then Malandria came strolling through,
And we three chatted of the isle's woe,
How caution should greet all that we don't know.

Image

And walking back along the road back then,
I reach most happy Bendir Dale again,
And there beside good Jaylek's store I see,
Friend Lulu there who comes to speak to me!
We two decide to go to Ruathym,
As of the mistic forge again I dream!

Image

She opens magic portal to Wiltun,
As sun beats down on Ruathym at noon,
The sea breeze floating onto land we smell,
We hear the splashing of the seaside swell,
And up we climb the handy lift that's there,
And feel the Wiltun breezes in the air!

Image

We walk into the mistic forge that day,
Enchantment quickly there gets underway!
The mythal shards rise up the forge to feed,
And soon I finish magic crafting deed,
My eyes aglow with forge-fire's magic light,
Which glowed there in a mistic, magic sight!

Image

And Wiltun's streets with massive crowds are lined,
But in the crowd friend Al I surely find!
We go into the Noway there to drink,
About our future travels there to think,
And as we speak we suddenly there see,
The beautiful face of friend Trinity!

Image

And as Al says he plans to go from there,
Into the underdark's dangerous scare,
The archer Trinity decides to show,
To him the ways of drow that elves then know,
And off we go to Howness cold to find,
What Trinity the archer had in mind!

Image

And with friend Valandil who comes along,
Up into Guston's ship we all then throng,
And out again at Howness port most cold,
Where soon the snows outside we then behold,
But before Trinity can start her show,
From grave there rises groups of undead foe!

Image

We fight off undead menace from the land,
And then we see Trinity's skill first hand,
For as brave Al stands bravely in the fight,
The sneaky Trinity fades from our sight!
And even though brave Al fights steady on,
He cannot strike when Trinity's long gone...

Image

Then after she shows how the dark drow fight,
We four to Noway go to reunite!
And soon we find friend Rev who joins us there,
And pass the time with song and dance most fair!
My magic times in Ruathym then end,
I catch a ship to Amia again!

Tale Twenty-Four: Changes

From Ruathym my setting changes now,
I watch land fade from Guston's sea-borne bow,
And as the island passes from my sight,
The day-time changes swiftly into night,
And sunlight changes too to candlelight,
And I take time my thoughts again to write.

Image

A look first at the writings in my pack,
And to my early journeys I think back,
To all the changing things since then I've seen,
The good and bad and everything between,
Perhaps like things I've seen, I too have changed,
From all the many miles that I've ranged.

Image

The night once more begins to change to day,
And soon in Cordor Guston's anchors weigh.
Then I go up to Bendir to unwind,
And in the gate some changing friends I find,
First Kasumi, from long-lost lover's pain,
Her changing heart decides to love again.

Image

Then Mina comes into the Bendir square,
She too a lover's loss has had to bear,
A harder change than lover's loss unkind,
Is hard for any wanderer to find,
As too for Sand with Mina in his heart,
The harder changes so much pain impart.

Image

But as the talk with Sand and Mina there,
Starts to reflect the pain that both they bear,
Their hearts intwined through changes in their lives,
Each heart to hopes of happiness still drives,
We leave them there to say what must be said,
And down the road to Kampo's now we tread.

Image

As Kasumi and I sit down to speak,
In walks friend Kael, Kasumi to seek,
Their friendship changing into something more,
To face together changes now in store,
I leave them there to talk and seek the door,
While Kael's feelings Kasumi restore.

Image

I walk outside and lean against a tree,
The night-time stars above me then I see,
I light my pipe and think of changing friends,
A quiet look a-back my mind there spends,
Then off I go to walk where path extends,
To face all of the changes fate intends!

Bath Song

Oh what a blessing warmth and water are!
It brings good people here from near and far!
The water warm and soothing to the skin,
It soothes the soul as soon as you step in!
And slowly all your cares just melt away,
So happy does a warm bath make the day!

The gentle sounds that fill the bath house walls,
That gentle sound of water as it falls,
That gentle splashing water on the stone,
That flicker of the light on water shone,
The gentle steam that rises from the heat,
The gentle water smells so soft and sweet!

And as we sink below the waters warm,
Our bodies seem to fade and to transform,
Into a happy mix with waters round,
As warmth and happy health start to surround,
The waters heal the outside and the in,
No matter just how bad the day has been!

And rising from the waters all is well,
It heals bodies like a magic spell,
And drying off our skin still feels so smooth,
Our skin the warmth and waters yet still sooth,
And as we clothe again to face the day,
The warth and waters ease us on our way!

Cordor Central

The square in Cordor East,
Is fine most of the time,
But there's a better place,
Away from city grind.

In Cordor Central there's
A gentler sort of place,
In water canals there,
A gentler sort of pace.

The finest Cordor homes,
A straight of water hides,
A magic avenue,
Where theater resides!

The pass of gondolas,
Where ferry men still sing,
Where ferries gently glide,
Their ferry bells still ding!

No finer place to see,
The city on the sea,
No finer place to stroll,
No finer place to be!

So next time you're in town,
Just take a trip out west,
You'll just what I mean,
That Central is the best!

Tale Twenty-Six: Strange Journies and a Forge Trip

Another night goes by in Nomad's inn,
Another night of wine and song it's been,
But now I leave and travel down the road,
And torch-light near the Cordor gate soon showed,
Friend Kael and sir Malek chatting there,
With someone they called Belle with golden hair!

Image

Then Belle said she would show us some new sights,
So we went out away from Cordor lights,
And down the road to swampy ways she led,
Where suddenly her elven form she shed,
And turned into a giant demon form,
As I to safety quickly tried to swarm!

Image

As Malek drew his weapon for a fight,
And I tried hard to stay far out of sight,
The demon form began to shrink again,
And Belle changed back into the way she'd been,
Assuring us that it was just a spell,
And striding off to show us more as well!

Image

We followed very carefully her pace,
As she told tales of a magic place,
A city that was living in the air,
And she would shortly take us all to there!
We came at last to glowing crimson light,
That shined out like a beacon in the night!

Image

As Belle and Malek walked into the light,
They suddenly did vanish from our sight!
Friend Kael and I stood there for a while,
But then into the crimon light we file,
But for some reason nothing happend then,
We stood there in the swamps right where we'd been!

Image

So thinking that the whole thing was a trick,
We start to make our way back home and quick!
Then Kael mentions that he needs a blade,
One that will give him better battle aid,
So I agree to forge a magic sword,
And go to Guston's ship and climb aboard!

Image

As I climb off into the city square,
I find some knights and Mina chatting there,
But I go to the weapon store to work,
Enchanting for the day in there I lurk,
But finally the weapon I attain,
By Kael's wish I name it "Selrand's Bane!"

Tale Twenty-Seven: Attack at the Dale

As I with Merton chatted in the square,
In Triumvir with people that were there
There suddenly came Sally running by,
And soon we knew that something was awry,
As Sally charged into the portal inn,
And with her many others of her kin!

Image

So after Sally Merton and I went,
By portal to the Dale we were sent,
And soon we came out into darkened sky,
And heard the sounds of battle just nearby,
For there we saw a terrifying sight,
Fair Bendir was under attack that night!

Image

As we ran into Bendir square we found,
The brave defenders gathered all around!
The hin and the militia were combined,
With fighters brave and passers by most kind,
And all fought to defend against the foe,
The nature of them we did not yet know!

Image

The strange mis-shapen demons came in flight,
And brave defenders struggled with their might,
For these were not the ordinary kind,
These demons had strength and defense combined,
And even worse they vanished in the night,
And suddenly appeared behind the fight!

Image

Crack! The lightning struck the Bendir fence!
Clash! The foe did break on the defense!
Flash! The demons vanished from our sight!
Smash! Against defenders backs they bite!
Rally! Sally calls into our midst!
Attack! As brave defenders come assist!

Image

Then darkest undead foes the foe calls out!
The ghostly forms come swarming all about!
Brave fighters charge into the ghostly midst,
But of the hardest bone the foes consist,
And sword and hammer barely scratch the foe,
No weakness does the undead foe then show!

Image

The storm-clouds passing over all our heads,
Brought dark as foe around the dale spreads!
Militia hin begin to fall from wounds,
And brave defender stumbles then and swoons,
But finally the massive group drives back,
The deadly foe with powerful attack!

Image

Then Emily and others are released,
To go and chase the foe down to the east,
And for a while little news was heard,
Until brave Dak returned and gave us word,
That seven darkly figures there were massed,
Who blocked all sword and magic that was cast!

Image

Then soon fair Miirah heard by word of mouth,
And came from Cordor running from the south!
She gathered some of us to go with her,
So brave defenders on us wards confer,
And off we go into the Craggy hills,
And see there sights that give us many chills!

Image

We see there seven dark-robed men in group,
And round them all the brave defender troupe,
But everyone who tries to fight the foe,
Get struck with deadly magic light aglow!
Then Venna and Irene astutely find,
To each robed man a symbol is assigned!

Image

A type of magic each one represents,
And all but adverse magic each resists,
But brave arcanists figure out the trick,
And after casting spells upon them quick,
The first robed man dissolves into a light!
A way is found to end this deadly blight!

Image

Then one by one the magic symbols tell,
To brave arcanists which is the right spell,
And soon they vanish, two, then three, then four,
Until the deadly foes are seen no more,
But then a scene to give us all a fright,
A giant skeleton comes into sight!

Image

It's made of that same goo that plagues the land,
And all attacks the giant does withstand!
But then its gate around it starts to fade
And without all the summoners to aid,
The frightful foe fades quickly from our view,
And soon the sky begins to clear anew!

Image

The gentle rain on all the fighters falls,
And sounds of victory the group then calls!
They make their way to Bendir town again,
To tell the news of all that happened then,
As Bendir hin give thanks in Bendir square,
To all the heroes who saved Bendir fair!

Tale Twenty-Eight: Kurchin's Tale

Image

The cycle last I found a stirring sight,
As into Uhm I came by road at night,
I saw the smoke and fires by the shore!
The burning docks and angry people's roar!
I run up quick to see what is the cause,
And ask the people what the matter was!

They said that they were searching for a man,
To find and kill him was their only plan,
A man named Boswin, but they wouldn't say,
What reason they had got carried away,
And as the crowd dispersed then so did I,
Still wondering how things had gone awry.

But later back in Bendir this same day,
I found there Kurchin going on his way,
And then he mentioned that he knew the tale,
And knew the cause behind the whole travail,
As he was there much earlier than me,
And the whole problem he was there to see!

We went into the Inn and sat down there,
And then his epic tale he did declare,
How because of the necromantic slime,
This man had come to be accused of crime!
The vile goop had touched a helpless child,
And in her magic sickness then ran wild.

The man had tried to treat the sickened kid,
To undo what the vile goop had did,
But then the child sadly lost its life,
And this was all the cause of Uhm's great strife,
As city people called out for his death,
And nearly did the man take his last breath.

But there came Kurchin with a group of knights,
Who came from Kohlingen for this man's rights!
To see that he would get a justly trial,
They marched from Kohlingen in rank and file,
But when they got there not a court they found,
But mobs of angry people gathered round!

They call out for the blood of this poor man!
They'll surely hang him shortly if they can!
The knights go stand around him to protect,
But not a calm did their brave act affect,
Instead the people began to throw rocks,
And forced the knights back onto fishing docks!

They tried to keep the angry people back,
And with them red robed monks the rocks did smack,
But then the mob would hear no calming talk,
As back and back they forced the knights to walk,
And finally they jumped in Guston's ship,
And into darkened waters they did slip!

The angry people started fires then,
To try and force the knights into a pen,
But by then they were back in Kohlingen,
And that's when in the town then I had then been,
To see the aftermath of civil strife,
As Boswin barely escaped with his life!

The tale Kurchin told was dark indeed,
How knights held that man that they barely freed,
And now the knights were banned from city walls,
As Uhm's mob justice for his life still calls,
And as for Boswin's fate he did not know,
Of that the coming days will surely show!

Tale Twenty-Nine: Wild Wintery Brogdenstein

As Bendir starts recovering again,
And mourns the loss of their militiamen,
Defenders rest and talk about the brave,
The ones who in defense their lives then gave,
And I return to Triumvir to sing,
About the evil that the cultists bring...

Image

But chatting there with Anica that day,
Both she and Lyric stories did convey,
About some lands where I had never been,
Of Brogdenstein and wild foes therein,
To there we three decide to make a trip,
And into magic portal there we slip!

Image

As soon as I emerge from magic light,
I see a bleak and very snowy sight!
The trees are covered always there in frost,
I quickly saw that I was really lost!
But both my brave companions knew the way,
And dove right in to deadly fighting fray!

Image

Brave Lyric charges with his song and sword,
And cuts right through the deadly orcish hoard!
Fair Anica swings blade with graceful ease,
And brings the orcish fighters to their knees!
They compliment themselves to such degree,
They blend into a martial symphony!

ImageImage

But soon fair Anica turns back once more,
And Lyric finds a cave there to explore!
We slip behind the frozen waterfall,
And slip into the darkened orcish hall,
Where shamen bring the lightning with a call,
And down it crashes, lighting up us all!

ImageImage

We come at last to fight the orcish mage,
Brave Lyric charges with him to engage!
But for good Lyric he was not a match,
And we return to forests through a hatch!
We leave the lands where orcish bodies lay,
And soon we meet a dwarf there on our way!

Image

His accent made it hard to hear each word,
"Pishposh" and "tart" and "Gnay" were things we heard!
But since he would not give to us his name,
We turn around and go the way we came,
And start to climb the mountain even more,
To see what mountain had for us in store!

Image

At first it seemed the ground would then collapse,
Or earthquakes from the mountain depths perhaps,
But then we saw the frightful cause of all,
It's giants throwing boulders in a brawl!
They see us and my blood goes cold with fright,
But Lyric charges in with all his might!

Image

The giant mages call storms the sky,
And giant blocks of ice begin to fly!
They land with force of boulders near our feet,
But Lyric stands with no thought of retreat,
And strikes at Giants tall as best he can,
And fighting echoes through the mountain span!

Image

We then make camp and portal to supply,
And there a welcome sight comes to the eye,
It's Alyson and Wetter her friend there,
And they as well of giants were aware!
We form a mighty fellowship to go
Back to the mountain summit peaked with snow!

Image

We fight but just a little farther more,
And there we find a giant tower door!
A tower spire is at mountain's top,
So down into the door we four then drop,
And find a realm of fire giants there,
With lava bubbling, burning in the air!

Image

The giant mages too call down their storms,
But these were filled with fire's burning forms!
Their witches send their spikes up from the ground,
That make a rusty creeking deadly sound!
But my three friends charge through with greatest skill,
And watching them is truly quite a thrill!

Image

We reach at last the bottom of the lair,
But giant king and queen are lurking there!
They both charge out to fight our fellowship,
With magic spell and swords the grounds they rip,
But my three friends combined do win the day!
So back to Triumvir we make our way!

Tale Thirty: Argayle and the Bear

In coming back from Brogdenstein I stop,
At Wharftown's Selune temple there to shop,
But in the doorway was a striking sight,
A giant looming man of massive height,
His axe was gleaming brightly in the night,
It's Argayle there, a man of martial might!

He said he was a templar on his rounds,
He helps out travelers around these grounds.
And soon one of these travelers came by,
It's Brad my friend who came to resupply!
And both of us then stayed as Argayle told,
A story from his home distant and cold!

Image

When Argayle was a lad four years ago,
He lived among his tribe in ice and snow,
Near Icewind Dale his tribe camped on the land,
The icy wind and frost they must withstand,
The northern lands are savage and untamed,
For rough and savage men the lands are famed!

Not all the youths are taken into tribe,
To harsher codes of living they subscribe,
To earn his place among the tribal men,
He had to hunt and make it back again,
He had to hunt and bring back precious food,
The lands of savage beasts he must intrude!

The hunters of his tribe with stoic nerve,
Emerging from their homes he did observe,
These stern and savage men prepare to leave,
And Argayle now the hunters all receive,
The group sets out into the wastes back then,
But many would not see their homes again!

The icy winds come down from icy sky,
They beat the hunters as they're passing by!
The days pass with no comfort in the waste,
No warm and hearty food from home they taste,
But five days out they see tres all around,
They've reached at last their savage distant ground!

It happened then, while they were seeking hares,
Or caribou to catch there unawares,
They came into a clearing in the wood,
But there a mighty arctic bear now stood!
The beast was twice as tall as any man!
With savage hungry eyes the group it scanned!

The forest trees were shaken to their core,
As giant bear unleashed a beastly roar!
The claws came out and cut through icy air,
And all the hunters quickly did prepare,
But in the beast's dark eyes: bloodthirsty greed!
It found some savage men on whom to feed!

Two hunters started slowly walking round,
To slowly flank the beast and to surround,
They brandished hardened spears with hardened tip,
And thrust with savage force and savage grip!
But then the massive bear at hunters flew,
And with a swipe he broke their spears in two!

The grizzled, savage leader of the hunt,
Gawain by name, he charged out to the front,
And with a savage "Raarg!" he charged the bear,
And raised his savage axe above his hair!
He screamed a savage scream and swung the axe!
The bear's tough skin deflects the man's attacks!

The hunters pause to marvel at the beast,
And of them all young Argayle not the least,
But savage lands don't leave them time to rest,
The hunters all must rise and pass this test,
So all grit down and summon up their nerve,
They have their very lives now to preserve!

The oldest of the group comes charging out,
And in his savage rage he starts to shout,
But savage bear spins round with razor claw,
And spins the hunter round with beastly paw,
His blood-soaked body falling with a sigh,
His axe goes spinning into tree nearby!

Then Argayle rose and looked off to his right,
To see his brother using all his might,
To fire arrows into savage bear,
They crack against its skin into the air,
And Duncan who's spear broke in first attack,
Jumped up with knife in hand on the bear's back!

But as the bear rose up into the sky,
It threw poor Duncan off with savage cry,
And there a frightful sight, he was thrown wide,
He landed on his broken spear and died!
The courage of the others starts to wane,
To see so many of their friends now slain!

Then Argayle turns and looks off to his left,
And sees the leader's axe, the tree it cleft,
His simple wooden club he throws away,
His friends' brave deaths he vowed he would repay,
He pulls against the axe stuck in the tree,
He struggles, struggles hard to get it free!

But then the bear comes nearer, nearer still!
It's beastly eyes are hungry for the kill!
It sees young Argayle struggling with the axe!
It sees his desperate look and it attacks!
It rises up and roars a thunder roar,
And readies then to kill one hunter more!

But Argayle pulls and pulls with all his might,
And finally from tree the Axe takes flight!
Young Argalye shouts a beastly savage cry,
And sweeps the axe through icy, savage sky!
The axe connects! It cleaves the mighty foe!
And down the stricken beast falls in the snow!

The hunters that survived thought he had died,
But as they moved the bear their friend they eyed!
For Argalye lived! And up to him they ran,
Accepted into tribe then as a man!
To home he went and he was much acclaimed,
And by his tribe "Argayle the Bear" was named!

Tale Thirty-one: Words of the Past

Image

A lifetime's pain and loss so dearly felt,
The people that within our heart once dwealt,
The people in our lives that could not stay,
And now forever they have gone away,
What words can represent the loss of that?
What words will rise to this and not fall flat?

The pain of all mistakes that we have made,
The pain that we have caused that is unpaid,
The loss that we have forced upon our friends,
The pain for which we never make amends,
What words can represent all of this pain?
What words will show all that we must regain?

The happiness that all of us have known,
The beauty by those first great people shown,
That first great push beyond what we had seen,
That realization of our hidden need,
What words can rise to meet those greatest souls?
What words can represent their crucial roles?

A lifetime passes and to all of us,
There are so many things we can't discuss,
There are so many feelings deep inside,
There are so many times that we have cried,
What words can ever reach these deepest things?
What words can match those bitter painful stings?

How many times we change and change again,
How many times our feelings wax and wane,
How much we become what we weren't before,
How much we change and then we change some more,
What words can ever speak about all this?
What words can speak of changing pain and bliss?

Each year we learn so much, so many things,
From every single day such knowledge springs,
What blame for things we did then faraway,
Before we knew the things we know today?
No words can change the past of anyone!
Because for all of us: the past is done!

Tale Thirty-two: Miss Widgern's Tale

I've found some mythral crystals on my way,
But since it seems a hundred stones they weigh,
I go to Kohlingen to craft some rings,
And forge a couple other magic things!
I go into the magic forge tonight,
To see the forge aglow in magic light!

But unlike all the other times before,
I feel to learn a little mythral lore,
Instead of handing crystals over to,
The Mystrans then just watching what they do!
I ask the Mystran woman standing round,
Just what these mythals are that so abound!

She said that long ago on our fair isle,
There ruled some Red Wizards dark and vile,
And with them vile Winter Queen's dark cult,
They plotted then and brought a dark result,
They crystalized the weave in solid mass,
Into these Mythal crystals weave did pass!

But word reached Mystra's Monolith in time!
The wizards vowed to stop this awful crime!
The mystrans marched to Forrstakkr to fight
And bring the Thayans and the cult to light,
And there they found the cultists' dark machine,
Still robbing Mystra's weave! A vile scene!

The Wizard's March defeated their dark plot,
And to their dark machine destruction brought,
But for a reason that nobody knew,
The Mythal shards today still form anew!
Did their dark plans a lasting change instill?
Or could some dark machine be running still?

At any rate the wizards quickly learned,
That energy in shards could be returned,
To Mystra and the weave from where it came,
And quickly this became the Mystrans aim!
They take the Mythal shards that they recieve,
And release magic back into the weave!

But in this process they discovered too,
That if the Mythal energy goes through,
An item as the power is released,
The power of the item is increased!
The Mystrans saw potential for new art,
And so their crafting business got its start!

Then of the minor details I ask,
About just how she operates this task,
But she would not reveal them to me,
There's danger if it's done not properly,
And so our conversation reached an end,
With new respect the forge I then attend!

Tale Thirty-Three: Alive

All mortal things are born, they live, they die,
They grow from tiny seed or infant's cry,
They live and grow and see the days go by,
And then one day it's time to say goodbye,
Then ends all dreams all effort they apply,
All reach their end and someday so will I.

Some creatures live for many centuries,
Some creatures live much shorter lives than these,
But everyone, no matter what their age,
Will someday come to turn life's final page,
And then their life too short will surely seem,
Too soon to face the end of life's sweet dream!

To feel the sudden fear of losing life,
To have your life consumed by force of strife,
Is such a dark and bitter thing to face,
For sudden end of all to have to brace,
To be from all your dearest friends apart,
To feel no more sweet love pull on your heart...

But if somehow that danger we survive,
How sweet it feels to be then still alive!
How sweet and precious life becomes again!
How sweet the thought of living becomes then!
How sweet to flee the end you've escaped from!
How sweet the simplest things in life become!

Each day of life is surely just a gift,
In vast uncertain fate we are adrift,
And even with the pain, a brush with death
Shows just how sweet is each and every breath!
To live and feel life's pleasures all anew,
To feel new joy from all the things we knew!

Remember that we mortals someday die,
We'll see that last sweet day under the sky,
Our happy days will fate some day deprive,
But now, today, we are all still alive!
Let's live today remembering all this,
That life is fragile but is surely bliss!

Tale Thirty-Four: Two Ships in the Night

Image

We pass our lives the way that we have lived,
We give our love the way we've always given,
We pass our daily sights with daily mind,
We live our lives in daily life confined,
We sail on down life's familiar course,
We sail on with life's familiar force.

We pass so many souls in life's long way,
We see so many souls in every day,
So many souls so different from our own,
Souls that have seen what we've never been shown,
Souls that will see what we will never see,
Souls that will be what we will never be.

We pass our separate lives on separate road,
We seek what separate futures surely bode,
And like two ships that pass in dark of night,
So often separate souls pass without light,
So often separate souls go sailing by,
Who never see themselves in darkened sky.

But under light of moonlit fate I see,
Another ship that's sailing next to me!
Two ships to sail no more in the dark,
To meet and sail on in daylight's spark!
Not sailing by in lonely separate course,
To equal end from vastly separate source!

The joy of sharing joys of friendship earned,
The joy of sharing pain as well in turn
The joy of sailing on together now,
What joy together passing does allow!
What joy together living has in store,
What joy to see the joy forever more!

Two ships that pass in darkened moonless night,
Two ships that by the fates and moon-sweet light,
Will never pass our separate ways again!
Will never pass apart from that day then!
Will always sail to the future shore,
Will always sail together ever more!

Tale Thirty-Five: Memory Songbook

Some songs I wrote of things I had in mind,
Since memories are all we leave behind.

Image

Seasons

The snow falls down in sheets from high tree-tops,
The snow seems thick and heavy as it drops.
A younger elf is watching quietly,
He smells the smell of cold in silently,
That brisk and biting smell of Winter air,
That fills the tree-filled skies of Winya fair.

The colder that the outside air becomes,
The air that arms and cheeks and fingers numbs,
The happier are those inside their doors,
The happy fire happy moods restores!
How happy then are days spent warm inside!
No shame to spend the whole day fireside!

The winter turns a blanket's simple feel,
Into a magic powerful and real!
In any other season, simple tea tea
Such happiness could never guarantee!
Such inner warmth could never reinstate!
The winter turns the simple to the great!

And then some day the absent birds return,
For warmer days we slowly, surely yearn,
We see the ground again through melting snow,
The younger elf sees plants begin to grow,
He hears the song returning birds do sing,
He feels the slightly warmer days of Spring!

To see the buds on trees that just before,
Looked like they might be dead forever more,
Is such a happy and refreshing sight!
All lives again after the winter night!
The honey-sweetened scent of flowers bright,
Bring Winter's indoor refugees to light!

The younger elf is watching as the town,
Turns quickly from a scene of white and brown,
And like the painter starts with simple lines,
Then bright and living color she assigns,
So Spring to Winya colors now supplies!,
Bright colors fill the world before his eyes!

And after colors settle into view,
The warmer Summer brings its heat anew,
The warm inviting mornings call outside,
Their pleasant warmth to warmer skin provide,
The warmer mornings start the days off right,
A pleasant day in pleasant sunny light!

And as the summer morning turns to noon,
And under harsher heat he starts to swoon,
That younger elf finds shady places then!
The cool places start to please again!
He feels the cool soil under trees,
And on his cheek the happy summer breeze!

And as the evening slowly does advance,
The Summer night is ripe for new romance!
Those warm and sultry nights when he's still young,
Those warm and sultry songs in Summer sung,
The elven maidens tug on younger hearts,
The sun itself these evenings slow departs!

But surely warmer heat begins to fade,
And then much different colors are displayed!
Like magic all the muted summer sights,
With fiery colors Autumn all ignites!
The younger elf is moved at all the change,
At how the Autumn colors rearrange!

And as the colored leaves begin to drop,
The trees with Autumn ground their colors swap,
And lingering for just a moment more,
Their colors still resist what's now in store,
As even now the air is growing cold,
And soon will Winya be in Winter's hold.

The slightly older elf thinks of the year,
Of all the beauty seasons made appear,
Of all the people seasons brought to light,
Of Winter day and sultry Summer night,
And with the many memories in heart,
He turns to face the year about to start!

Tale Thirty-Six: A Dreamer's Epic

Image

I climb into the boat to Kampo's store,
And look back to the temple there once more,
How all that passed since coming here just seems,
Like all of it took place in someone's dreams,
Like only now I've woken up at last,
And laying down I think of all that passed.

It started long ago in Kohlingen,
As I was seeking magic lore again,
And under lamp-light in the city square,
I found the famed Tuomas standing there,
And so we chatted then of mythal lore,
About the Wizard's March from long before.

We walk a little ways down to the dock,
And there Tuomas picks a little rock,
And tossing it into the waters warm,
Throughout the waters ripples quickly form,
And so the cult's machine from way back then
Bids mythals even now to form again.

But as we speak we look up in the sky,
And there a little fey is flying by!
She sat and whispered softly in my ear,
She whispered all things I want to hear,
Persuading me to show her forests dark,
So we to darkened forest did embark.

And there my darkened dreams start to begin,
For as we near the forest entry then,
I stood there watching with my mouth agape,
As little fey began to change her shape,
And then I realized how my foolishness,
Had led us both into a nasty mess!

Tuomas recognized her evil face,
And held her in a magic spell's embrace,
And while his spell still held the woman there,
We both were safe and breathed still living air,
But when from magic spell she did break free,
She turned into a dragon suddenly!

Tuomas screamed for me to quickly run,
But I delayed there for a moment, stunned,
And when I started finally to flee,
The dragon breathed a deadly gas on me,
And instantly I fell onto the ground,
And watched the world start to spin around...

Brief visions of Tuomas casting spells,
The awful choking gas with choking smells,
And then I fell unconscious into dreams,
Dark visions of a Malarite's dark schemes
The numb sensation of a dreamer's pain,
The darkened thoughts as hope did start to wane...

I woke again confused and in great pain,
Still in and out of consciousness again,
A cycle spent in darkened dreaming drowned,
And when at last I start to come around,
I saw the face of Ashlynn standing there,
And helplessly I fell into her care.

She bandaged up my wounds while I still slept,
But much more care from her would I accept,
A darkened care that I had never known,
Ilmater's suffering I was then shown,
I fell again back into darkened dreams,
Much darker than the ones before it seems...

She sizes up my wounds on leg and arm,
And turns then to herself to my alarm,
She draws a knife and willingly takes pain,
I plead with her to stop, but all in vain,
Ilmater's healing dark does surely start,
But pain anew grows quickly in my heart...

And like the darkened dreams of Malarites,
Again I'm shown these new and darker sights,
I lay there watching, pleading helplessly,
As Ashlynn takes my pain so willingly,
I could not understand why she would make,
Such sacrifice all for a stranger's sake...

The healing ends and and then a brief reprieve,
For I to Bendir's fair am granted leave,
My friends Tana and Kael visit me,
And helping me to walk so graciously,
The temple door once more I'm passing through,
And pleasant dreams begin to start anew,

To Bendir for Midsummer's fair I go,
And there, still dazed I watch the happy show,
From endless dreams of pain and darkness then,
My eyes see bright and happy sights again,
But with my pain and all that I've been through,
It seems surreal, too good then to be true...

And in my pleasant dream there was romance,
A friend becomes a little more by chance,
And for a moment then I start to dream,
That things could be much better than they seem,
I let myself a happy future see,
But like a night-time dream it could not be.

Returning then back to the temple door,
I lay down in the bed I had before,
And for some cycles there I dream more still,
My inspiration dreaming does refill,
I write of love and happy future bright,
Of pain sacrifice I too then write.

I ask what right to take such sacrifice?
What right to let someone pay such a price?
What can my life be worth that one would pay,
Just so that I could see another day?
Just so that I could live my silly life,
Would Ashlynn willingly fall on her knife?

The cycles pass in dreams of questioning,
And finally my health the cycles bring,
As Ashlynn then returns to me again,
With goodman Greg whom she was training then,
And as they both sized up how I'd progressed,
In came Salandrans carrying a guest!

The human woman that they carried in
Asleep for many days they said she'd been,
And no one could divine the problem's cause,
So Ashlynn then with Greg start without pause,
To find the reason for her slumber deep,
And wake her from this strange and magic sleep!

I get my bearings back again and stand,
And listen to the treatment they have planned,
They cast their magic and they speak their prayers,
And the Salandran cleric then declares
He feels the presence of a magic spell,
But of its nature no one yet can tell.

By chance or fate a vision we all see!
It came to us like dreams so suddenly!
We saw the woman running then in fear!
A strange and darkened form did too appear!
Good Ashlynn recognized the things we see,
The hunting lodge and there the tallest tree!

As we prepare to take a trip out then,
Friend Tana comes to visit me again,
And with us three she too comes then to aid,
A trip up to the hunting lodge is made,
But when we near the tree that Ashlynn found,
Both she and Greg fell sleeping to the ground!

Both I and Tana tried to wake them back,
But then my mind began to fade to black,
And as I tried to lift good Ashlynn then,
I slipped and fell into a dream again,
A darkened dream but not like ones before,
For in this dream we might be ever more!

I see there Greg and Ashlynn staring down
A darkened shade there floating off the ground!
And there behind this strange and darkened shade,
The sleeping woman on the ground there laid!
As Greg and Ashlynn then prepared to fight,
I slinked away to watch in deadly fright!

But while I hid and cowered then in fear,
The darkened shade began to reappear,
But not in ghostly form, just as a man,
And then he told us of his evil plan,
New souls into his dream he would deceive,
And like the woman we would never leave!

But Greg and Ashlynn never thought of fears,
And as the shade's more human form appears,
Greg frees the woman from our evil foe,
And both of them to safety quickly go,
While Ashlynn readies quickly to defend,
And bring the evil foe to deadly end!

But then before a fight can even start,
The darkened shade starts quickly to depart,
And waking then from this my final dream,
My consciousness returns in rapid stream,
With open eyes great comfort then I take,
For Tana guarded us and stayed awake!

As all rise up from dreaming sleep back then,
We make our way back down the road again,
And passing back again through temple's door,
We find the woman sleeping there no more!
My brave companions saved her from her plight,
And brought her from her dreams back into light!

Then one by one my friends go on their way,
But Ashlynn and I for a moment stay,
And talking to her then I come to see,
The reasons why she sacrificed for me,
The reasons why she gives for other's sake,
Some comfort in it then at last I take.

For goodly actions are their own reward,
Great happiness for her to serve her lord,
Great happiness for her to save a friend,
And with her own, another's pain can end,
It was not then a debt I should repay,
It simply was Ilmater's healing way.

And leaving now on ship to Kampo's store,
A think of all the darkened dreams before,
And laying down to rest then finally,
I slip into a restful reverie,
But in my dreams I cannot help but feel,
That someone watching me is lurking still....

Tale Thirty-Seven: Nevaeh's Tales Continued

Image

Again the Triumvir is filled with song,
And soon good Nevaeh too comes along,
And with her Kurchin and E'dalar too,
To listen and to sing some songs anew,
And to the crackle of the fire warm,
The storytellers happily perform!

But soon E'dalar craves a change of pace,
And tells us of a mystic, magic place,
A forest that exists above the clouds,
Which Nexus hill and fall secretly shrouds,
And so the four of us all quickly go,
And when we get there, what a stirring show!

We all emerge from magic portal's light,
And look around from some great, lofty height!
And as we look on down we see a sight,
The nexus falls far down below at night!
The light goes dancing off the waterfalls,
And all the Nexus down below us sprawls!

And then it's time for Nevaeh to tell,
Some stories with the three of us as well!
She starts her story with a forest strange,
That she and her companions once did range,
A forest of most giant creatures there,
And giant trees that rise up in the air!

They found that they were trapped in this strange place,
So for adventure all of them did brace!
They quickly found an old abandoned home,
And in there for supplies they quickly comb,
But all they found were owners' corpses there,
And rotting smell soon made some wargs aware!

But troubles did not end with merely wargs,
Since quickly they were found by giant hoards!
They would have fought the foes without a thought,
But they were all without the blades they brought,
And all they had were sticks and worthless blades!
The group takes flight and trouble it evades!

They ran as giant bears came running by,
And as they ran a portal they did spy!
A portal that would take them home again,
But this new portal was not working then!
It needed parts that there they could not find,
And so, back to the giants left behind!

They found the giants there within their cave,
But not like giants did these ones behave,
For in this forest of the largest beast,
The slightly smaller giants were the feast!
How strange a place where giants are the prey!
But portal parts they found there on display!

They managed to escape that time at last,
But other trips she made there in the past,
Another one with Herial in tow,
A painting that he made then she did show,
And that time too they managed to get free,
And safely once again their homes they see!

Her story turned from there to distant Khem!
She told a story of adventures grim
That she and fellow guardsmen then began,
And with Miss Cerri and Bryce Aldemann,
There as a group they had an epic quest,
To right a wrong and end a crypt's unrest!

In Djedet there they found some scriptures old,
About an ancient priestess' crypt they told,
For Khemians revere their fallen dead,
And fill their tombs with riches it is said,
But riches draw in robbers to exhume,
And that's what happened to this ancient tomb!

But there was hope in what the scriptures say,
That with a ritual there was a way,
A magic spell with ancient magic might,
Which could restore the peace and end the plight,
But first they had to solve a mystery,
And they were given clues in number three!

In Khem they worship Eight great deities
But most important are just three of these,
Osiris, Set, and Halthor are their names,
At representing these the puzzle aims!
The first of puzzle's clues spoke of the hawk,
And so to find hawk feathers then they walk!

A house on Djedet's edge held the next clue,
The meaning of the clue they quickly knew,
For of a bull the mysteries did speak,
So out they go, Minotaur horns to seek!
The final clue spoke clearly of a snake,
And so some snaky scales too they take!

They now had all the items for the rite,
And then at the Oasis they unite,
To read the scriptures and to cast the spell,
To calm the tomb just like the scriptures tell,
So one by one, an item in their hands,
They read their magic spell on desert sands!

The one with feathers reads, and what surprise!
He turned into a hawk before their eyes!
Then Nevaeh read with the horns they got,
And turned into an ox right on the spot!
How brave to follow what did just occur!
Or maybe oxen form appealed to her?

But braver sill to proceed after this!
But thoughts of fear brave Cerri did dismiss!
And holding snaky scales she too read,
And turned into a cobra snake instead!
Then poor old Bryce was left to guide the group,
This strangest moo-ing, flying, hissing troupe!

The scriptures started to burst into flame!
And from the flames a wailing ghost then came!
It watched them all and turned to walk away,
So after it the group did make its way,
And finally it stops and starts to wait,
Outside the fabled Temple of the Eight!

They saw the temple's treasures missing there,
And of their mission all became aware,
So Bryce led out his motley crew to find,
The stolen treasure that would end their bind,
And so they all climbed on Nevaeh's back,
And followed on the evil raider's track!

And after questing for a full three days,
With all the raiders they had then crossed ways!
They brought the treasure to the temple then,
And placed it back where it belonged again!
Then finally with all that in the past,
All then became their own true forms at last!

A noble end to high adventure there,
But all were soon to have great pain to bear,
For this adventure was to be the last
They shared with Bryce before away he passed,
For not long after on South Cordor's streets,
A vastly undeserved fate he meets.

Good Bryce, don't let your end disturb your rest,
For you made all the lives of your friends blessed,
And know that even now you're on their mind,
Your songs still sung by those who stayed behind,
And from your friends who death still here defy,
Rest well, good Bryce, forever, and goodbye!

Tale Thirty-Eight: The Genesis Dance

Image

Muses, Muses, sing to me!
Sing of how things used to be!
Whisper secrets down to me!
Whisper first of old Tyche!

Tell me how she falls in love!
Tell me who she's dreaming of!
Tell me it's the Morning Lord!
Tell me how she was ignored!

Burning, burning in her heart!
Tell me how the troubles start!
How a flower dark she found,
Growing there upon the ground!

Pulling, Pulling, it won't budge!
Tell me about Tyche's grudge!
Cursing it, it fell down there!
Placing it into her hair!

But Moander cursed it too!
Evil plotting he did do!
Wilting, wilting her inside!
Tyche surely would have died!

Muses, muses, now I pray!
Sing of happy Selune!
How she knew about the plot!
How she planned to end the rot!

Happy, Happy Selune!
How she struck with light of day!
Bolt of lightning pure and white!
Bolt of purifying light!

Muses, Muses, dance with me!
Dance and sing the things you see!
Dancing, dancing, in the light!
Sing to me about that night!

Flashing, burning, crackle bright!
Lightning pure and white in flight!
Faces of the gods alight!
Selune at power's height!

Splitting, splitting, Tyche falls,
To the Morning Lord she calls!
Falling then she splits in two!
Goddesses are born anew!

Muses, Muses, call her name!
Sing how bright Tymora came!
Lucky, lucky, bright and free,
What a happy sight to see!

Bright Tymora, be with me!
Guide me with your lucky glee!
Show me lucky things to see!
Dance with me so happily!

Dancing, dancing, all of us!
Come, Tymora, dance with us!
Singing, laughing, let us dance,
Dance to goddess of good chance!

Spinning, spinning, dance with me!
See the lucky things I see!
Dancing, dancing happily!
Sing Tymora's praise with me!

Tale Thirty-Nine: A Frightening Commission

A pleasant day in Triumvir does pass,
Just listening to stories in the grass,
With Lyric, Kurchin, and fair Alyson,
The day goes by with endless happy fun!
And soon good Elor comes to join us too,
But then an unknown man comes into view!

He tells us that his rich and noble lord
The presence of some bards had then implored,
And here he came to hire Elor's group,
To entertain his guests with bardic troupe!
He asked us then if we would be employed,
Elor agrees and we are overjoyed!

As all of us begin to practice song,
And tune our instruments to bring along,
This man comes back and calls us to his home,
And through the painting Cordor's streets we roam,
Until we come up to an alleyway,
And inside there the party's underway!

We mingle with the noble guests at first,
And with the noble wives we do converse,
But then it's time to start our night-time show,
So to the center Elor then does go,
And plays the lute and sings with all his skill,
And to the crowd of guests he gives a thrill!

While Elor plays good Kurchin juggles then,
Delighting all the wealthy noblemen!
He juggles not just one or two or three,
For more things juggled I did never see!
The crowd seems more and more delighted now,
And so another song they do allow!

This time it's our most celebrated pair,
Good Lyric and with him Alyson fair!
As Alyson plays harp and does her dance,
Then Lyric with his song does all entrance!
They sing about the power of the stage,
And to applause from all they disengage!

And after we perform the happy crowd
Speaks to itself approvingly aloud,
And at the end it's time for them to go,
The master then has gifts for us to show,
And as our group for its rewards prepares,
He tells us they are waiting just upstairs!

But as the upstairs rooms we do explore,
We see with horror corpses on the floor!
And every corpse has instruments in hand!
These are remains of some poor bardic band!
But round the rooms we find a wealth of gold!
And too a Mythal of a size untold!

We hoard up all that we can carry back,
And make our way along the downstairs track,
But waiting there at bottom of the stairs,
A doppleganger finds us unawares!
At first we think that this must be the end,
But to our shock our songs he does commend!

He says that other bards had come before,
But all his guests their playing did deplore,
And in an evil festival of gore,
He left their bodies upstairs on the floor!
And only since we played with all our heart,
Would he allow us safely to depart!

With shock and fear we quickly storm outside,
How happy to breathe outside air alive!
Brave Elor makes report to Cordor's guard,
As we the riches and the stone regard,
And give Tymora thanks we have our lives,
And also that good Elor's group survives!

Tale Fourty: An Abyssal Adventure

So many days passed in recovery,
While my mind dreamed of new discovery,
So as friend Kurchin and I take a walk,
We found there Lyric and we start to talk,
Of high adventure in some distant land,
And find too Kasumi to lend a hand!

Image

They said that they had fought some demons there,
A tale that at first gave quite a scare!
But then I learned they spoke of the abyss!
It turns out I already knew of this,
Friend Anica had taken me before,
To shop in Haji's strange instrument store!

Image

We gathered in the market for supplies,
Some mindblank potions everybody buys,
And then my three brave friends start to prepare,
Their armor once again they start to bear,
And all are grimly looking out ahead,
And out into abyssal wastes we tread!

Image

I follow closely my three brave allies,
And looking out, the wastes to me did rise,
A distant wasteland of a massive size,
The bleakest landscape ever in my eyes,
"Stay close and follow us" my friends advise,
As I look up at strange and star-less skies!

Image

Then suddenly huge demons come attack!
At first I think that we will be forced back!
But all my three companions charge right in,
And quickly against all those foes they win!
But Kurchin starts to pass out once again,
And like before, forgetting where he's been...

Image

I carry Kurchin on my back from there,
To find a cure for him again I swear,
But this is not a place to hesitate,
Attacks from all the demons don't abate,
So Kurchin and I watch then from the back,
As Kasumi and Lyric both attack!

Image

The might of four or five these two command,
As Kasumi swings farmer's scythe in hand!
And as she sweeps and chops with all her skill,
Brave Lyric rushes in to make the kill!
He shouts a dirge that's frightening to hear,
Then draws his mighty blade and charges near!

ImageImage

But as we start to tire from the trip,
Into a narrow cavern we all slip,
And there we find an unexpected sight,
A caravan is resting there at night!
We trade for scrolls and potions and we rest,
And now refreshed we all resume the quest!

Image

The wastes begin to narrow as we go,
On both our sides, steep drops the cliffsides show,
But up ahead we see two torches bright,
And there a cliffside stairway comes to sight,
So carefully we all go filing down,
And come into a cavern underground!

Image

And as the cavern starts to reach its end,
A stranger smell the cavern breezes send,
A stranger sound comes rising from ahead,
"A dragon lives here," my companions said,
And as we peer into the widest rooms,
A huge blue dragon over us then looms!

Image

As Kurchin and I watch from far behind,
Brave Lyric tells the plan he has in mind:
For he will run out bravely as the bait,
And back here we and Kasumi will wait,
And when the dragon follows after him,
Then both of them will fight the battle grim!

Image

Then Lyric runs out into cavern dark,
And when the giant dragon sees its mark,
It chases Lyric back into our trap!
Around him Kasumi and Lyric wrap!
They fight and fight until at last it falls!
Our cries of victory then fill the halls!

Image

After we take our treasure and reward,
Our group back up into the waste then soared,
But soon we found the path was at an end,
And there some buildings through the sands ascend,
We find a door and quickly go inside,
And inside there a staircase deep we eyed!

Image

Our eyes adjust to places without lights,
And when they do, we see beautiful sights!
A quiet city all abandoned now,
The empty streets a quiet walk allow,
But where are all the people that were here?
How long ago did they all disappear?

Image

We pass through haunting ruins all around,
And at the end come to some temple ground,
And there with statues guarding at each side,
The giant temple door calls us inside,
So Kasumi and Lyric push the doors,
And all our group this temple then explores!

Image

As Kasumi steps out onto the path,
A fire trap sends out its fire wrath,
And then we see the bridge has all been trapped,
But Kurchin at the skill of traps is apt,
And so he then climbs down and goes out front,
And all the deadly traps he does confront!

Image

We pass with nervous care over the bridge,
And try not to look down into the ridge,
Which passes into darknesses unknown,
To some forgotten place down there alone,
Until at last we come into a lair,
And see a ghostly merchant floating there!

Image

The merchant has some magic things to sell,
His sad and tragic story he does tell,
But as my friends then shop, I go to rest,
Because I'm broke as all have surely guessed!
It's back into the Dale then for me,
To sing about that I did see!

Tale Fourty-One: Half of a Whole

Image

How happy is the sound of laughing friends,
As we all gather round,
The tables in the Vagabond tonight,
As happy times abound!

I see such happy, smiling faces here,
Of friends to left and right,
As all share happy restful moments now,
A truly healing sight!

But somehow all of them seem far away,
Like looking from outside,
It feels like only half the happiness,
My friends tonight provide.

I drink the summer wine I love so much,
But that familiar taste,
Seems like it has been watered down by half,
It's flavor is debased.

Each time that we are forced to say good-bye,
Each time that you depart,
You leave me merely half of my true self,
You take with you my heart.

I go about my day as I must do,
But without you with me,
I feel just half of all the happiness,
That in my day I see.

Without you I am just a pencil sketch,
No colors come to view,
Alone I'm just a half-done work of art,
My color comes from you!

And even here with laughing, smiling friends,
I keep my mind on you,
With half my mind I always watch the door,
And hope you will come through!

Tale Fourty-Two: Ocean Waves

Such burning thoughts are raging in my mind,
How burning is this loneliness of mine,
My satisfaction in the simple things,
Is lost with all the pain that absence brings,
and lost I wander down the road I've known,
And think of all today that I've been shown...

Image

I've seen a friend be lifted up by trust,
Two friends be broken by another's lust,
And now a third might be affected too,
I just don't know what I'm supposed to do,
I don't know how to take sides with my friends!
I shake my head; all thought of this then ends.

Image

Instead while walking now my thoughts recall,
The simple joys I knew when I was small,
The simple things I knew back in my home,
That became complicated as I roam,
How complicated life has now become,
Have I abandoned all that I came from?

Image

I walk along the road to Minmir bridge,
And look up at the mighty Nexus ridge,
And then the thought just brings me to my knees,
That I will never feel the Winyan breeze,
That I will never see fair Winya now,
That maybe this my choices won't allow...

Image

And turning back again it takes my strength,
To keep my dearest home at distant length,
But the convictions that I feel today,
Now keep my longing for my home at bay,
And forcefully I turn away from there,
And leave behind the humid Nexus air...

Image

Corellon, just how complicated things
Are now as each new day decisions brings!
I long for what I knew as a small child,
I long for simple times back when I smiled,
But I have grown away from times back then,
I'll never be that boy ever again.

Image

And walking out onto the sandy beach,
The salty ocean waters I then reach,
and wading out into the waters there,
Of just how much I've changed I am aware,
And as the water cold falls over me,
The past and all my future then I see.

Image

I see the man that I became today,
I see that I have surely found my way,
I see I'll wait for who now holds my heart,
I'll give all of my friends a fresh new start,
And as the waves crash over onto me,
All thought of Winya and my home I flee.

Tale Fourty-Three: Darkness and Light

That precious time at night before the dawn,
Before the precious night-time dark is gone,
Provdes such precious time for me to write,
Such precious time in precious candlelight,
To write my thoughts before the morning starts,
Before the comfort of the night departs.

Image

I think about good Tana and how she,
Has left the past behind, so unlike me,
Who cannot move beyond the love I've known,
Who cannot move beyond pain I've been shown,
Who cannot leave the past and move ahead,
Who looks to times alone with darkest dread.

Image

Today I saw the Underport with her,
It sometimes felt my mind was in a blur,
I saw the slaves there standing up for sale,
Their hopes through night-time darkness won't prevail,
I hear it said that this is a safe place,
A place to live in night-times dark embrace.

Image

A place where arms are a necessity,
A place that peace and comfort never see,
For those who suffer and who give that pain,
What can a life in places like this gain?
What would I become here in such a life?
To live each day in constant fear of strife?

Image

Could I live here among these evil ways?
To never see bright morning's sun-lit rays?
But she can't reverie up in the light,
From all I know she's constantly in flight,
How can I ever be what she now needs?
And how can I now follow where she leads?

Image

I think that I must stand and walk away,
But that she will come back still yet I pray,
That she will come and make everything right,
Is all that I can think about tonight,
But Kael's words still echo in my mind,
Has love and longing really made me blind?

Image

And then the morning light comes into view,
Through darkness now comes morning breaking through,
And with it now my thoughts turn to the light,
I wonder if I want to live in night,
I wonder if there's comfort too in day,
So Kael's words I now begin to weigh....

Tale Fourty-Four: The Procession of the Coronal

Image

The happy cheers arise and fill the streets,
The happy shout and happy call repeats,
And all the grand City of Song is out,
To stand along the grand procession route,
To see the Coronal come make his way,
On Cinnaelos'Cor Holiday today!

And all along the fabled Street of Song,
The many races of the people throng,
The towers shine with decorations bright,
The stone and marble has been polished white,
In pride to see their Coronal come by,
Their pomp and pride are everywhere in eye!

And coming from their town-homes and their stores,
Proud people come to watch outside their doors,
Proud faces of a dozen races all,
Stand proud to see their Coronal come call,
Some holding their small children by the hand,
Who laugh and jump and wave at sights so grand!

And looking up into that towered sky,
The tower peaks are rising, soaring high,
The magic might that drew them from the ground,
Is quiet now as peaceful days surround,
Their softened summits rimmed with birds today,
That rise up into air as trumpets play!

And then the Coronal comes into view!
The crowd goes quiet then it cheers anew!
Bright ribbons and confetti in the air,
That stream from skyways high above them there,
And then they see their ruler's noble face,
All awed by his nobility and grace!

The children whisper, their eyes opened wide,
To see the Ruler's Blade at ruler's side,
And even youngest child feels the pride,
To live under a noble, goodly guide,
And thoughts of brightened futures come to view,
In minds of children and of parents too!

And high above Myth Drannor for today,
A magic sight is always on display,
The Mythal is made visible with light,
And wizards make there stars that twinkle bright,
And all are dazzled by the magic sight,
And all are humbled by their wizards' might!

And Castle Cormanthor has open gates,
For peaceful masses it today awaits,
The sword and spear and all their deadly might,
Today is traded for some laughter bright,
And peacefully the citizens come in,
No fear of bitter pain or war within!

And following the Coronal they go,
Into the castle faces all aglow,
To share together feasts of unity,
To celebrate as a community,
And to Corellon all of them then pray,
And end together their bright holiday!

Tale Fourty-Five: An End

Image

The devastating silence,
your absence leaves behind,
The swirling, spiral downward,
That without you I find,

My thoughts of happy future,
Above up in the light,
All my naivety then,
My foolishness outright,

The pain of darkened wishes,
That still lurk in your heart,
My fear of dangers under,
That you might never part,

My selfishness in placing,
My needs before your own,
My false assumptions of you,
Of things I'd never known,

My friends and all their wishes,
And all of their advice,
To voice my honest feelings,
That dreams would not suffice,

All pain and happy feelings,
When you were still with me,
All warmth and all the coldness,
Our future I did see,

Is over now.

Tale Fourty-Six: The Willow Tree

Image

The forest sounds are sounding all around,
The birds and forest creatures all surround,
But as we move along they start to mute,
And traveling the quiet pathless route,
A clearing bound by mossy rocks we see,
And in the center there a willow tree.

With branches covering the circle there,
It soars up from the earth into the air,
And cloaks the circle in its muted green,
A forest court that's ruled by its queen,
A magic mist drawn by its dignity,
Collects around to crown the noble tree.

The willow branches droop and tumble down,
Connecting tree-top high with forest ground,
The muted sunlight breaking through the trees,
Connects with humid water in the breeze,
The roots that slip into the land to feed,
Connect the tree with earth for every need.

So all of nature blends together here,
The sun with soil and the water near,
The trees and plants with forest creatures too,
The living with the land and me with you,
All nature's great interdependency,
Together blooms in everything we see.

The wind picks up and sways the willow tree,
Its drooping brances show fragility,
The fragile balance that emerges here,
So easily some day could disappear,
But here today the nature still abounds,
The balance and the beauty stil surrounds.

Tale Fourty-Seven: Paralell Worlds

To first go out into the forest deep,
It felt at first that I had been asleep,
And finally I woke up from my rest,
With waking eyes the beauty I assessed,
And like remembering some ancient thought,
I saw at last the things my heart had sought.

Image

As we explored the hidden places there,
The magic forest rising in the air,
I felt a purity I never knew,
A calm connection with the nature grew
I saw how strained the city life has been,
I feel a need to start my life again.

Image

But spending cycles out in nature's hold,
I feel how nature is so uncontrolled,
I feel my lack of understanding here,
And thoughts of friends back there don't disappear,
As animals live here among their kind,
Should I live too in cities left behind?

Image

As cycles pass we wander back to roads,
And sure enough the peaceful calm erodes,
The more of land's development I find,
The less my calm connection stays in mind,
And as I see the villages and towns,
The city sounds my purity now drowns.

Image

But though a most unnatural feeling spreads
And hangs like clouds of dust above our heads
The life here too is still to be enjoyed,
My happiness is not at all destroyed,
And here like everywhere are happy things,
A friendly face and all the joy it brings.

Image

And like the forest animals I found,
My friends both new and old to me surround,
And then my calm connection with the land,
Becomes a happy bond with friends at hand,
And even here there still are happy lives,
The bond we have between us here survives.

Image

The sounds so jarring when I first returned,
Unnatural sights my heavy heart discerned,
Begin to fade into what they have been,
My wakened mind begins to sleep again,
But even here in city's choking sleep,
I dream sweet dreams of forest calm and deep...

Tale Fourty-Eight: The Willow Tree in Mystic Dream

Image

With half-closed eyes I enter reverie,
But not the normal memories I see,
And instantly I know I'm in a dream,
The trees around not as they always seem,
And in my ear there is no sound at all,
But in my heart I hear a distant call.

And walking now with feet above the ground,
I pass through forest green without a sound,
And as I slowly pass the trees all turn,
As if my presence now they can discern,
And then I see a glow of deepest green,
Illuminating all the forest scene!

I make my way up to the brightened glow,
It's coming from the clearing that I know,
But rising up is not the willow tree,
Instead a fey immortal watching me,
And clothed in glowing green and green of hair,
She towers over all into the air!

Her soft and ancient features warm her face,
No movement now but still she's filled with grace,
With charismatic majesty she stands,
Her queenly presence all respect commands,
And in her starry eyes a tender care,
A gentle love for all the forest there!

And in the silence now I hear a sound,
A warm and gentle heart-beat all around,
I hear it in my body then as well,
And with each beat the forest starts to swell,
And then she turns and starts to speak to me,
But not in voice, in visions that I see!

The sky from green turns purple and deep blue,
And all the forest nears and comes in view,
And while the heart beat rhythm keeps its pace,
The speed of all I see begins to race,
The changes taking place start there with her,
And ripple all around in magic blur!

And like a trance I see the pass of time,
The rising and the fall of life in rhyme,
New creatures and the trees before my eyes,
Each one is born, it lives and then it dies,
And even though each creature's life still ends,
Into new generations life extends!

Again the passing time begins to race,
I feel myself swept up in time's embrace,
I close my eyes, too much to comprehend,
And waking now the dream is at its end,
I open up again my eyes and see,
The face of my own future next to me!

Tale Fourty-Nine: Halifast's Tale

Image

A trip back from the forest now I make,
New books, supplies and spices there to take,
And stopping at the Triumvir I hear,
Old Halifast's complaining in my ear,
So in a bit of curiosity,
I ask him then to tell some tales with me!

Now bards are bards, and Halifast is too,
He told some bawdy tales that he knew,
But soon they turned about the Triumvir,
About the Vagabond and why it's here,
And how the Triumvir did get its name,
How three great places then became the same!

Before the place into the planes did go,
It was a bardic college long ago,
Near Baldur's Gate, it's owner's name was Flash,
But with the other bards he had a clash,
The fighting quickly turned to the arcane,
And all was sent into this demi-plane!

But even though the buildings all were here,
The famous Flash the bard did disappear,
The Twilight Stage, the courtyard and the rest,
This demi-plane they all did now possess,
But then it was no Triumvir just yet,
Just one of three into this place had set!

And somehow before Halifast arrived,
Another place the trip to here survived,
The library and loremasters inside,
Somehow with all the rest did then collide,
The bardic college and the library
Together shared the square that we now see!

And then another unexpected turn,
The demi-plane continued it's sojourn,
And found itself in Sigil suddenly,
Right next to Halifast's large family,
Who ran the Vagabond in Sigil there,
Just barely getting by on tavern fare!

Now bards need bars like bars need bards in turn,
And soon such massive profits did they earn,
That when the "Biumvir" had then in mind,
To see their buildings with the bar combined,
Old Halifast and Jon his son agreed,
And so the Triumvir was then decreed!

But soon the demi-plane did drift again,
Another planar journey it began,
And all the portals in the Vagabond
No longer went to Sigil and beyond,
But somehow now connect with our own isle,
But Halifast says only for a while!

And with his story done I had to know,
Just what was true and what was just for show,
But Jon his son confirmed it then for me,
And said the most of it he too did see!
How lucky then back home the portal goes,
But just for how much longer no one knows!
