Hi this might not be in the right place but im trying to get feed back on the sword style kex uses and teaches.

Its call Bes'kad, a kelbian martial discipline. In it you must accept 3 things without any level of doubt. First that you are but a tiny thing in the existence of the universe a part, but only so far as an blood cell in a body. second you must understand that pain, as well as all positive and negative signals from the body are only a illusion. An example of this is a man running 4 miles after his body tells him he can not move anymore. The third and most vital, Everything happens according to the will of the universe that will is never altered or effected, merely a stream going from the beginning to the end.

By accepting these things it allows for a level of assessment of ones surroundings as well as a deep understanding of how armed combat happens. By removing yourself and the enemy you can see the way both things interact on a larger scale. The sole purpose of this discipline is to put yourself and your blade in the correct position every time without actually fighting.

The character that does this had been taught this since the age of 1 and thinks without individualism, meaning he only thinks in terms of we not i. Further he is 2 monk 20 wm thats 22 ki based classes so this has alot to do with the channeling of ki and the understanding of it.

Id LOVE feed back on this questions on this and over all imput on how to make a widget suggestion, both dms and players alike!

Given that ki is a psionic ability that lie deep within the self, I'd suggest you focus on that bit. Most WM's seem to ignore this fact entirely and see themselves as specialized fighters, than Ki wielding martial artists.

If you're looking for ideas going towards DC widgets or abilities you might want to request, I'd suggest taking a deeper look at ki in the forgotten realms setting and perhaps do something related to it's nature. One idea could be to use your ki to focus energies into the weapon to cause some form of elemental damage, similar to what sacred fist monks can do.

My old WM had a special sword to represent his style of fighting, and as his 'signature' or own unique twist to being a WM. His sword was only actually useful when wielded by someone that could channel their Ki into a bastardsword. Here's a link to the request. It's cheap and it's just for flavor, so for 3 DCs', I thought it was well worth doing.

Then again I'm a fan of the unorthodox and original, rather than mainstream stuff so this is just my view on things.

A fair few people have already done the elemental damage on their weapons thing. I'd recommend you go for something different.

One fun idea could be that your character's ki flow exceptionally well trough a particular weapon, and sharpens it's edges further or blunts them when cutting something won't suffice. Adding additional damage types to a weapon. Say it's a shortsword, for instance, you could add slashing and bludgeoning damage types to it, thus allowing it to be sort of a "jack of all" thanks to your training.

Problem with original ideas for WM's, is that 99% of all ideas are related to damage or properties of the weapon in one form or another.. thus making it nigh impossible to have a completely original thought around the whole concept :?

If you are thinking of something based on ki, maybe looking at the monk's special attacks as a basis for a widget might be a good place to start. Since you have a couple of monk levels, the widget's use could be linked to stunning fist. I don't know much about your character, but maybe a maneuver that draws on his genasai heritage?

I've seen Gromilda (I am spelling this wrong, I'm sure) doing some very cool RP with being in touch with the earth and rocks- so, instead of a damage based attack, maybe something that does no damage but is a much harder to resist knock-down or grants a potential short lived holding effect from moving ki through the earth.

(From what I've seen, putting an opponent in a prone position to give opportunity to intimidate him or the like might fit your character.)

Something to consider as a starting point, maybe!

I'd drop the bloodcell thing, though.

I ment it as a thought a blood cell is just one part of a body a part no one sees but is ever flowing threw the body in a very specific and purposeful manner. If you wish i could say "like a grain of sand in a desert" or "like a drop of water in a ocean" IT was ment to symbolize.

The concept is based on removing people from combat and fighting in a detached manner. The psionics concept is very intresting, however i have been greatly considering a dc sword as a alternate to this. Kex was bred and trained to weild the kex (kex not being his name its an asumed name a farmer, then later alot of people in amia, asumed was his name). In rp A Kex is described as a mace sword weighing nearly twice as much as a fullplate armor, however kex having been tought to use nothing but that type of sword has become so atuned to it that he is able to weild it without dificulty. So much so he can catch a coin at its apex with his sword.(due to the 20 wm i thought this very within the realm of possablity as for all 19 going on 20 years of his life hes been fighting with the same kind of sword). OOCly i use a elven sword redone to look like it has a odd metal in the middle of the blade. its 1d8 peircing kinda throws that rp off.

Would it be unreasonable then to have the peirce turned to blundgening and the sword to get a + to weight property to it? Or is going the Ki route still more fitting the concept?

Btw thank you all ofr your very useful comments so far :D

I'd need to ponder it but there's plenty of things you can do.

I'm unsure how the DMs would feel about it but you might be able to take singular ideas from the Book of the Nine Swords for overall concept, then rework them into a viable idea for a WM Widget.

Having done Spell development research on two characters I can tell you the sort of thing you're doing is quite potentially darn fun . xD

My advice: Document IC inspirations, screenie key moments in the attempted development of whatever you come up with, and don't be afraid to let your concept be shaped by those around you. A good example:

The Anti-pyromantic cloud spell Tuomas possesses was originally conceptualized to use the spell "Ice Storm" but to try to halt the ice from solidifying into crystals which would drop on the enemies but instead, just create a freezing cold. Ulrik pointed the spell "Acid Fog" out and he was from there able to break down the Acid Fog, take out the components to make the Acid side, and re-work in elemental cold.

Don't fret if it takes a while to work out. It'll be all worth it in the end.

Woops!

Sorry Kex I totally misread this.

This is a pretty cool concept.

O, and also: Adding physical damage types to a sword doesn't actually make it do that damage type. It's just necessary to use a different damage type, otherwise it doesn't mechanically stack properly. A longsword with 1d10 bludgeoning bonus damage is still doing all slashing damage.

Not in the current system/setting (which is what is relevant).

No. You are wrong. In the current setting, Ki is not Psionic.

Ki was made Psionic in 4th Edition. This is not 4th Edition.

Mistyped, I should've said that to be clearer. >.<;

Ki is not Psionic in the edition which is what is relevant to Amia.

No but a longsword with Extra Melee Damage Type: Bludgeoning is going to punch right past that 50% slashing immunity of your friendly neighborhood skeleton.

Yeah you got me there. It's a psionic like power that's tapped from the body and self, rather than mental powers, with it's own power pool. Which is why monks and WMs have a fixed number of use for stunning fists/special monk moves/ Ki Strike.

IT's no psionic like at all. It has nothing to do with psionics. Stop making the comparison! You're going to confuse people.

ok so blunt damage is not doable...is the weight?
as for using ki im leaning more towards the defensive. No one ever said wms are offensive only part of being a good shield and sword user is being defensive.

Changing the 1d8 piercing damage on the elven longsword to bludgeoning is plenty doeable if you get it approved in a DC request. It's just a property change. As is adding the weight.. and I'm fairly sure if you get it approved, you will get a free name and description change along with it as well IIRC.

If you asked to change the slashing damage a longsword has as standard, that would be a whole other thing.

It is, but it literally won't do anything to the weapon mechanically.

You can add a damage type but you can't change the base.

I didn't properly read what the weapon actually is, but from how I see it, it can be used as both a bludgeoning and piercing weapon, hence, the extra damage type property is perfect.
