Yeah the history of Wrymhold is one of the more interesting pieces of Amian lore... its well worth seeking out people who were there at the time it stood and hearing the tale IC!

Ahh, alright, I was just a bit iffy on what there creedo was on that is all. Another question would be is, Shar, would she cater to a certain type of Devil, same goes for Loviator and Hoar. Do they do that, or is it just any devil? I'd think Hoar would only cater to some..

Loviatar is by far the one that would use Devils more than Hoar and definitely more than Shar. She likes exiled Baatezu, imps, and hell hounds. She also like Tieflings though and I would imagine they refer to Tieflings with Devil ancestry. She likes Nightmares too, but they're neither Devil nor Demon, they're just a NE Outsider creature.

Hoar uses Undead, Constructs and even Elementals more than he uses Devils. Things like Haunts, Revenants and Invivible Stalkers.

Shar would be more likely to use things native to the Plane of Shadow above pretty much anything else. Many of the creatures from the Plane of Shadow happen to be Undead, because of the negative energy there. Shar tends to favor these undead monsters, like nightshades. She also likes normal undead though, like Death Tyrants, which are Undead Beholders.

That's actually not true. Loviatar is LE and Shar is NE, not CE. Shar doesn't really mess with Devils or Demons much though.

Memphits and Druids... what would be the possibility of a Druid calling upon a Memphit for aid? I know they are considered outsiders and not elementals but I am looking into a possible reskin for the future with my hin druid and this is one possibility.

Information/Lore on the Faith and Rituals of Nobanion? Especially in a funerary sense, but I like weddings, communal gatherings, birthdays (do we celebrate birthdays in FR?) and child baptisms into The Pride, too.

(Also, Sovereign, I'm sure it will be Legendary. >.>)

Re:Dieu.

Don't see why not.

Just looking at the list of creatures for Summon Nature's Ally in PHB.... its pretty wacky in places. Not just animals, it has Elemental, Genie, Tojanida (Turtle type Water Outsider), Xorn (Very wierd Earth Outsider), Thoqqua (Worm type Fire Outsider), Salamander (Lizard type Fire Outsider).

Mephit isn't a stretch at all.

Quote:
Holy Days/Important Ceremonies: Two major religious observances are held each year for Nobanion, and they are always exactly three and one half months apart. Their spacing is representative of the gestation period of the lion.

The Festival of the Pride normally takes place during the first week of Ches. This is a time for frolicking, dancing, courting a mate, lovemaking, and generally celebrating the bounty of life and its potential. Religious belief promises that a child/cub conceived this night will go on to become ruler of the church/pride.

The Newborn Celebration always takes place during the third week of Kythorn. This ceremony celebrates the birth (or rebirth-church teachings are vague) of Nobanion, the prominence of lions in the Vilhon Reach, and the importance of the hunt in the region. It is marked by a great hunt and a great feast. Newborns undergo the Rite of the First Blooding where their right paw (or hand) is placed in the blood of the prey and blessed by a priest of Nobanion.

Yeah, I just looked myself and sadly Nobanion wasn't in ad&d and thats where you get a lot of good fluff for RP from certain faiths *especially elven/hin*... and faiths and pantheons 3rd edition is rather lacking in that... I would look at the domains and work from there...

Yeah, I don't see why Druids couldn't/wouldn't summon Memphits. Well... I can see why some couldn't and some wouldn't, but you know what I mean. :P

Nobanions faith has few set faith-wide rituals and traditions, because the faith was historically one geared toward magical beasts, not "real people." Since the Times of Trouble, that's beginning to change. Start your own trends!

Based on a cursory reading the Nine Hells info on that site seems solid--ignore the stuff about Asmodeus becoming a deity because I'm pretty sure that's 4th ed, but I didn't see any mentions of that on the Nine Hells page.

As a general rule, take what you read on the FR wikia with a grain of salt. A lot of it focuses on 4th edition stuff, in which Forgotten Realms undergoes a lot of changes from the 3rd ed/3.5 stuff that we're dealing with. If you're very familiar with the material it's easy to tell the difference, and occasionally the years listed offer a good clue (current time on Amia is late-1300s I believe, for the exact time check the timeline somewhere in rules & lore). It's a good place to look something up quickly though.

This being the age of the internet you can often find .pdfs of certain books online, not that I am endorsing the downloading of said .pdfs that can be found by google searching! Also googling the material you're interested in sometimes yields web pages where you can find the info. There's also some fansites with a good deal of info, though some of which is non-canon.

I have absolutely no idea.

But it's pretty safe bet that social norms vary by society. What's acceptable in Thay might not be so acceptable in Skuld. "...in faerun" is pretty vague.

I'd say that people who can't predict the future would view your motivations as selfish in the extreme, especially the poorer ones.

As in cast auguries in an attempt to directly divine your own future? From everything I've read, in the FR novels at least, such an act is often considered taboo by diviners, except when done in the most general and nonspecific sense. Trying to determine if taking action X would be in accordance with your god's dogma/wishes is one thing, but trying to determine for example, the exact time, place, and manner of your own death, so you can avoid it, is quite another. I'd wager that sentiment would pass on to the general populace in some form as well.

Question about AutoQuicken:

Can you consciously cast spells at a non-Quickened pace? Like if you wanted to be sneaky and not let everyone know you could instantly Quicken every spell, could you slow your casting to a normal reat?

Does that make sense? lol

The Feat description in Epic Level Handbook is full of terms like "can cast", "may cast" and "could cast".

It reads as very much an optional ability rather than automatic.

Almost every ability in DnD is something you can consciously not perform if you don't want to.

Are there any restrictions for Hobgoblins becoming monks? They are lawful by nature and I think they could if someone would train them?

Thoughts?

Heh...you folks are just bound and determined to get this little tick in the back of my mind to make a hobgoblin to become a reality aren't you?

:D

I just get a kick out of thinking about making a Hobgoblin only faction....lol...

I can see it now...the hobgoblins have vanished from the Forest of Despair only to appear as a well organized merc company that took over the Goblin Caves.

Come to think of it....heh heh heeeh...

I need 60 hours in a day...I really do....

(wanders off to do some research and plot and plan)

Since gagis silvarna is a pure celestial outsider...

Can you not technically cast gate or greater planar binding and summon him?

It's not as simple as just being an outsider. For Gate at least. He'd have to be on another plane first. That's the way it works, it bridges two planes together; you can't just call something from here to there on the same plane. If the mechanical rules respected this, for instance, you wouldn't be able to Gate a Balor in the Abyss, but you could open a Gate near your friend back in Faerun and ask him to come through. But as that's the PnP use, one should probably get the consensus of everyone involved or a DM before trying to pull that.

Even then, there's really nothing special about being an Outsider and coming through Gate. Technically, you can call any individual from the plane you're connecting to, it's just generally assumed you're on the Prime, thus any creature you bring through by default is extraplanar.

You could, either by speaking his creature type and getting lucky, or by speaking his name ("Gagis Silvarna" or some other unambiguously identifying title), yes. He would be bound by all the rules and regulations of that spell.

That said: I don't suggest it. It's a big mess.

Try looking through Magic of Faerun, I believe it's explained in detail there. It's fairly specific iirc, but if it'snot then we basically make it up. I assume it works off Teleport.

I'm pretty sure he'd have to be on another plane.

It's pretty pointless, though.

With Gate, you couldn't control him. (Unless you called indirectly for his creature type, and by chance got him)

With Planar Binding, you can only portal him into a magical trap (He gets a save) and then try and persuade him to do a service for you. He is under no obligation to agree.

Planar Binding, Lesser
Conjuration (Calling) [see text]
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels); see text
Target: One elemental or outsider with 6 HD or less
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: No and Yes; see text

Casting this spell attempts a dangerous act: to lure a creature from another plane to a specifically prepared trap, which must lie within the spell’s range. The called creature is held in the trap until it agrees to perform one service in return for its freedom.

To create the trap, you must use a magic circle spell, focused inward. The kind of creature to be bound must be known and stated. If you wish to call a specific individual, you must use that individual’s proper name in casting the spell.

The target creature is allowed a Will saving throw. If the saving throw succeeds, the creature resists the spell. If the saving throw fails, the creature is immediately drawn to the trap (spell resistance does not keep it from being called). The creature can escape from the trap with by successfully pitting its spell resistance against your caster level check, by dimensional travel, or with a successful Charisma check (DC 15 + ½ your caster level + your Cha modifier). It can try each method once per day. If it breaks loose, it can flee or attack you. A dimensional anchor cast on the creature prevents its escape via dimensional travel. You can also employ a calling diagram (see magic circle against evil) to make the trap more secure.

If the creature does not break free of the trap, you can keep it bound for as long as you dare. You can attempt to compel the creature to perform a service by describing the service and perhaps offering some sort of reward. You make a Charisma check opposed by the creature’s Charisma check. The check is assigned a bonus of +0 to +6 based on the nature of the service and the reward. If the creature wins the opposed check, it refuses service. New offers, bribes, and the like can be made or the old ones reoffered every 24 hours. This process can be repeated until the creature promises to serve, until it breaks free, or until you decide to get rid of it by means of some other spell. Impossible demands or unreasonable commands are never agreed to. If you roll a 1 on the Charisma check, the creature breaks free of the binding and can escape or attack you.

Once the requested service is completed, the creature need only so inform you to be instantly sent back whence it came. The creature might later seek revenge. If you assign some open-ended task that the creature cannot complete though its own actions the spell remains in effect for a maximum of one day per caster level, and the creature gains an immediate chance to break free. Note that a clever recipient can subvert some instructions.

When you use a calling spell to call an air, chaotic, earth, evil, fire, good, lawful, or water creature, it is a spell of that type.

This is the arcane version. Higher level versions work identically, though let you call higher level creatures. The wording here is what would be under argument. Does "Creature from another plane" imply that it must only come from another plane, or that it must simply originate from one? I'd rule the latter, and thus Gagis could be captured by it.

Clerics in PnP don't get Binding, btw. They get:

Quote:
Planar Ally, Lesser
Conjuration (Calling) [see text]
Level: Clr 4
Components: V, S, DF, XP
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: One called elemental or outsider of 6 HD or less
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

By casting this spell, you request your deity to send you an elemental or outsider (of 6 HD or less) of the deity’s choice. If you serve no particular deity, the spell is a general plea answered by a creature sharing your philosophical alignment. If you know an individual creature’s name, you may request that individual by speaking the name during the spell (though you might get a different creature anyway).

You may ask the creature to perform one task in exchange for a payment from you. Tasks might range from the simple to the complex. You must be able to communicate with the creature called in order to bargain for its services.

The creature called requires a payment for its services. This payment can take a variety of forms, from donating gold or magic items to an allied temple, to a gift given directly to the creature, to some other action on your part that matches the creature’s alignment and goals. Regardless, this payment must be made before the creature agrees to perform any services. The bargaining takes at least 1 round, so any actions by the creature begin in the round after it arrives.

A task taking up to 1 minute per caster level requires a payment of 100 gp per HD of the creature called. For a task taking up to 1 hour per caster level, the creature requires a payment of 500 gp per HD. A long-term task, one requiring up to one day per caster level, requires a payment of 1,000 gp per HD.

A nonhazardous task requires only half the indicated payment, while an especially hazardous task might require a greater gift. Few if any creatures will accept a task that seems suicidal (remember, a called creature actually dies when it is killed, unlike a summoned creature). However, if the task is strongly aligned with the creature’s ethos, it may halve or even waive the payment.

At the end of its task, or when the duration bargained for expires, the creature returns to its home plane (after reporting back to you, if appropriate and possible).

Note: When you use a calling spell that calls an air, chaotic, earth, evil, fire, good, lawful, or water creature, it is a spell of that type.
XP Cost

Hello everyone, for research for a character idea of mine, I was wondering if any of you could divulge any and lore on Kholingen, in particular its noble class.

Kohlingen really does not have a "Ruling noble" class despite what the annoyingly noble heavy keep might dictate these days, but that, my friend, is an entirely different kettle of fish. I made it work by plot anyways, so whatever.

Kohlingen is by and large a theocracy. The priests of the Triad help govern the city in its day to day needs, and at the top of the totem pole is the Justicar. The current Justicar is Justicar Marinsbane. His personal advisor is Lady Cys'tana, who serves in a personal aide capacity as well as being the city's highest ranking military personnel besides the Justicar himself. If anyone in the city could push the Big Red Button iuf the Justicar croaks, it's her.

Nobility in Kohlingen is a matter of course. This is largely due to how Kohlingen was founded: To escape the clutches of an entirely corrupt king and queen who abused their power over the populace and the common man. Nobles in Kohlingen are for the most part respected, but this is due to their actions and philanthropy, not due to their blood or rearing. There are only a few noble families in Kohlingen and almost all of them were immigrants from Old Benwick. A few others have come in the recent years though: A great deal of them are expatriates from Cordor, who quickly set up shop around town. Most of the Cordor ex-pats keep to themselves, and the Kohlingeners are quite polite to them. A few of them have become philanthropists on the Kohlingen scene and enjoy quite a bit of respect.

That's a decent bit of general information for you. If you need anything more specific, let me know.

Well the character would have been born and raised in Kholingen, and the idea is for him to have been born into a noble family (requiring approval I know) But I'd rather not ruffle feathers by suddenly saying "Oh yeah, there's this family in Kholingen now, never heard of them? they're noble"

I'd prefer him to have been born into one of the current families, which of course I'd need info on to request and RP properly. Feel free to go into PM's if necessary.

The question is "Angel of Decay". I need more information than Libris Mortis and FR wiki offer.
If there is no more info, perhaps lore could be found IG with help of a DM in charge of it?

There isn't any.

I doubt they're "Creatable".

Haven't been able to locate the answer to this on my own:

When using a spell to create/animate/summon/etc undead, can the caster call specifically upon the caster's dead enemies (ie they slay some human foe and call upon that spirit and animate the corpse with it)? Or is it out of their conscious control?
Would it require special training to do so (ie Spell Focus in Necro or something)?

You don't use spirits, you just animate dead bones.

Ahhh gotcha.

What about in the case of wraiths and such, then? Things with obvious spirits/souls/whatever.

They're not. They're undead remains animated by negative energy and have nothing to do with the spirit/soul.

Ah, I thought there was some sort of undead that had to do with messing with somethings soul. I was under the impression that some form of necromancy involved disturbing someone that had died (other than just the body itself).

The more you know!

Could anyone share any lore on old Benwick?, in particular its fall and noble class. Sorry for the obsessive posts. :)
