I mean the uh.. paralysis. It triggers a certain amount of times per APR.

Also, do BG spells work on gloves, or is it purely held melee weapons?

I was considering making a cleric of Tymora, and was hoping for suggestions as far as level distribution goes between cleric and rogue, and whether I should go dex or str based. I was thinking 27 Clr / 3 Rog as a general idea for the build. Any thoughts from better cleric builders than I am? I'm far better with melee types and wizard builds.

First flurry of combat, so dual-wielders maximize it the best.

He means the assassin tools, not death attack.

Kind of a weird idea I had swimming around, wondering on the mechanical aspect of it. Don't know if I'll ever make it.

Moon Elf
19 Paladin / 1 Ranger / 10 Shadowdancer

13 Str
18->25 (26) Dex
08 Con
13 (14) Wis
10 Int
14 Cha

Pre-epic: Dodge, Mobility, Weapon Focus, Improved Critical, Blind Fight, Weapon Finesse, One more feat.

Epic: Epic Weapon Focus, Great Dex, Great Wis, Epic Dodge

This is bugging the hell out of me. Seems I can't fit Divine Might without dropping another important feat. Alternatively, Paladin 15 / Monk 9 / SD 6 would work, but the feat problem is still there. Any ideas?

Also wrong.

Unarmed monks with circle kick get the best use out of death attack.

Monk build! Yay!

I'm lingering right on the 15 level mark, andd.. I'm having second thoughts about my character's intended course! BUT, good news, with the two concepts I have, Level 15 is the level I needed to be.

~~~Spell Resistance Monk~~~
This was my original idea. Plain, simple, straight up SR monk with 52 SR by the end game. While the theory seems like a lot of fun, "The execution isn't." I just can't get an AB that I'd feel good about, the damage is sub-par, and I lose a lot of feat capability that can really change the character around. I wanted a character that could train/tutor/mentor/etc all sorts of various pupils (not just monks! Was hoping to get a variety of classes and characters, hell- even giving them an RP justification for taking those few monk classes). But it got me thinking: Shouldn't.. a tutor/master/mentor/sensei thing actually be capable of combat, when faced by a doubting pupil? Whether or not the question holds merit, it got me thinking on the abilities of the character.
I was also developing a really neat idea for a custom ki ability for said Spell Resistance Monk, but... *Shrug*
---Monk Build 2---
Here's the more detailed monk build. Instead of straight 30 SR monk, I was gonna try 20 Monk/8 CoT/2 Rogue. Level progression would be 1-15 Monk/16-23 CoT/24 Rogue/ 25-28 Monk/ 29 Rogue/ 30 Monk. (In the attempt to grab UMD earlier in the epic levels, and also maximize it in the later levels.)
Base Stats:
Str: 12
Dex: 17
Con:10
Wis: 13
Int: 14
Cha: 8
1. Monk ~ Dodge, Mobility
3. Monk ~ Weapon Finesse
6. Monk ~ Expertise
9. Monk ~ Weapon Focus: Unarmed Strike
12. Monk ~ Ambidexterity
15. Monk ~ Two Weapon Fighting
17. CoT ~ Improved Critical: Kama
18. CoT ~ Weapon Focus: Kama
19. CoT ~ Improved Two Weapon Fighting
21. CoT ~ Epic Weapon Focus: Kama, Armor Skin
23. CoT ~ Epic Prowess
24. Rogue ~ Epic Fortitude
27. Monk ~ Blindfight
30. Monk ~ Epic Will
Thoughts on those feats/progression?
Epic Dodge Paladin is possible. But, if you want Divine feats you're going to have to forget Shadowdancer. It's a choice you've got to make between HiPS and the +8 Damage/AC.
16Paladin/13Rogue/1Ranger was one my better character's builds. I'd post some numbers about the AB and AC, but really, they're a little pornographic. Just...think of some big numbers. Then add 10.
Extremely powerful concept tbh. But needs the right niche for the character to make sense. The combination of Paladin and sneakiness isn't the most natural fit.
Not saying this is a good solution but if you grab 12 paladin/4 ranger/4 SD pre-epic then go to 15 paladin/5 ranger/10 SD at epic levels you grab an extra epic feat which gets you epic weapon focus, then the feat you burned on epic weapon focus goes toward divine might instead, assuming you use that "One more feat" on power attack. But then, is losing 1ab to grab an epic feat only to burn it on a pre-epic feat worth it? Nah, but at least you have a (bad) solution.
Why do you pick up dodge AND mobility? Dodge I can understand, but mobility? Also you don't need to aim for two levels of rogue, since you have imp. evasion, but I assume it was because you wanted UMD a bit earlier.
I actually made a monkey build with the same classes the other day out of boredom. I will post it and see if it holds water.
Monk 25/Divine Champion 4/Rogue 1
Race: Water Genasi
Diety:
Alignment: Lawful -
Str: 18 - 26
Dex: 10
Con: 8 - 10
Int: 14
Wis: 14
Cha: 8 - 6
HP: 306-336 (buffed with no con gear)
AB: 45 (with +6 gloves)
AC: 55-56 (with haste), 60 (with epics and mage armor)
Skills (few points remaining):
Hide 33
Heal 33
Tumble 30
Discipline 33
Move Silently 33
Use Magic Device 32
1 M - Feats: Toughness, Strong Soul
2 M
3 M - Feat: Weapon Focus: Unarmed
4 M - Str: 19
5 M
6 M - Feat: Lightning Reflexes
7 M
8 M - Str: 20
9 M - Feat: Great Fortitude
10 M
11 M
12 M - Feat: Improved Critical: Unarmed, Str: 21
13 M
14 M
15 M - Feat: Extra Stunning Attacks
16 M - Str: 22
17 D
18 D - Feats: Blind Fight, Improved Initiative or Power Attack
19 D
20 D - Feat: Expertise, Str: 23
21 M - Feat: Epic Weapon Focus
22 M
23 M
24 M - Feat: Epic Skill Focus: Discipline, Str: 24
25 M
26 M
27 M - Feat: Great Strength I
28 M - Str: 26
29 R - Skill dumplings
30 M - Feats: Armor Skin, Epic Prowess
Since circlekick changes your focus in battle, couldn't it be utilized with a monk build that has a high damage output? Monk/wm/rog kama build perhaps, or a monk/paladin/rog with divine might?
Aye. And the Dodge AND mobility was a result of his original -original- build involving SD. And me not wishing to grind my way back up from nothing- So I rolled with it. In the future, if I'm feeling like using a DC rebuild or something, I'll change it for sure. As for the Rogue, yeah- it IS to snatch UMD and 1d6 sneak earlier. That, and both Divine Champion and Monk give no other bonuses for a spare level in either besides a few HP. But the rogue level's gonna make those next six levels a LOT easier.
I thought of this, I hope you like it:
14/18/8/12/10/14 OR 14/18/8/10/12/14
13/7/10 Rogue/Paladin/Shadowdancer
1: Blind Fight
3: Finesse
6: Dodge
9: Mobility
12: Weapon Focus
15: Power Attack
18: Divine Shield
21: EWF
24: G-Dex 1
27: Armor Skin, Epic Prowess, IMPR Crit, or Divine Might
27*: Epic Spot, or hide (or Some other rogue feat?)
30: Armor Skin, Epic Prowess, IMPR Crit, or Divine Might
30*: Epic Dodge
14/26/8/10/12/14
A lot more rogue, paladin goes up to 7 so you won't get -all- the bonus out of divine might/shield but 7 should be enough. I suppose you could go 11/9 Rogue/Paladin which gets you 1 more pre-epic AB and a few more spells at the cost of a rogue feat. I figure with this versions sneak attacks you might not need divine might.
Main thing this offers is that you get epic dodge on a bonus rogue feat, so it frees up one elsewhere. Means you miss out on a good deal of pally-buffs though, but you should get enough skills to be a competant rogue.
Edit Addition: If you go 11/9/10... you could go 8/8/4, then take your 6 SD levels, then 1 rogue, 1 pal, then 2 rogue. This will evade the build's XP penalty.
Edit2: Swapped some feats around
Derk: Drop SD. Your feats will be too tight to reasonably afford anything to make your damage even nearly bearable. One thought is Kobra's suggestion of going mainly Rogue, but I'm afraid the Paladin wouldn't pay off at all; you're still too cramped from the SD pre-requisites.
I'd say go Paladin16/Rogue13/Ranger1. It easens the burden a lot, and frankly, you'd never sustain a high enough Hide and MS for Stealth Mode to be your key stunt. As a gimmick paladin build, your real and only potency is seconds of fame and indestructibility from Epic Dodge plus saves.
Okay skill ranks question for the build monkeys. I know there's a max that you can get a skill to by ranks plus equipment. What is that max and how does it add up and get capped?
I've heard that equipment can only add so much and at lvl 30 I'm not sure what the max ranks per skill is and my PHB is stored away somewhere from the move :?
skill points added by gear and spells maxes out at 50...
so.. 33 + 50 + ability modifiers + feats = x
Maximum skill rank would be 33 at level 30. Maximum skill bonus from items and spells is +50. Then add feats and ability modifiers to that and that's your max. Maximum possible skill level is 127.
Related question (asking for a spoiler, yes): are there any items with bonus feats Stealthy or Skill Focus: Hide in the module?
And that's why I love you guys. Fast and confident awnsers! Thanks. Now just to put it into a context...if there's a door with a lockpick DC of 130 it should be unpickable right? Or do some skills always pass on a 20?
You could...
33 Base + 50(gear) + 14(dex) + 10 (epic Skill focus) + 20 (check) + skill focus(3) = 130
With open lock, you can also make use of +10 tools, which add to the check outside of the other bonuses. (However, this is only for open lock and such tools are used up in the process.)
In practise, most doors that are unpickable will be set to require a key anyway.
Fair point Sel. Though I'm just using LP as a example in this case. So 130 with a extra tool in some skills huh? Guess between a only average INT and full gear to two skills that makes the best case a two trick pony? Say I could max out H/MS but not make him a spotter by maxing Spot as well right?
As the player of a high stealth character, with normal and epic hide and move silently skill focuses, I can vouch that a character can reach around 100 hide and move silently while being up competent in battle.
I'm curious about 19PM/10W: does that mean that completely stripping their buffs (which are cast as 10W or Epic Mage Armor cast as 19PM) is very easy for anyone with a dispel, even much lower levels, leaving them completely bare?
Okay, looks like I have:
16 Paladin / 4 Rogue: Weapon Focus, Weapon Finesse, Power Attack, Blind Fight, Divine Might, Divine Shield, Improved Critical
Going to:
16 Paladin / 13 Rogue / 1 Ranger (at 30): Armor Skin, Great Wisdom, Great Dexterity, Epic Dodge, EWF (Ranger bonus).
That sound right?
Your defensive spells (non-necromantic in nature) will be dispelled very easily, yes, since your caster level is 10. EMA can't be dispelled btw. So 10 wiz levels = 10 hours duration.
You only have to give yourself the most vital spell protections. With EMA alone your AC will easily reach 65+, keeping you fairly safe from physical harm.
Thats how I did it, yeah. Starting with Rogue for the extra skills, obviously.
Though I was on a Gnome, my starting stats were a little different (15-2STR/15DEX/8+2CON), so I needed a few more Great Dexterity feats.
I would consider starting with 6 CON. So you can start with 14 WIS and get another Epic Feat. Its not like anything will be able to touch you, outside of spells. Looking at my Char on player tools, -60....You'll end up with 188HP that way, without any +CON gear. Not great...but you'll be able to get another Epic Feat. Or Extend Spell, which I love for my Paladin chars. I couldn't live without my huge stack of Extended Divine Favours. :D
Epic Dodge Paladin is possible. But, if you want Divine feats you're going to have to forget Shadowdancer. It's a choice you've got to make between HiPS and the +8 Damage/AC.
16Paladin/13Rogue/1Ranger was one my better character's builds. I'd post some numbers about the AB and AC, but really, they're a little pornographic. Just...think of some big numbers. Then add 10.
Extremely powerful concept tbh. But needs the right niche for the character to make sense. The combination of Paladin and sneakiness isn't the most natural fit.
Okay, looks like I have:
16 Paladin / 4 Rogue: Weapon Focus, Weapon Finesse, Power Attack, Blind Fight, Divine Might, Divine Shield, Improved Critical
Going to:
16 Paladin / 13 Rogue / 1 Ranger (at 30): Armor Skin, Great Wisdom, Great Dexterity, Epic Dodge, EWF (Ranger bonus).
That sound right?
Thats how I did it, yeah. Starting with Rogue for the extra skills, obviously.
Though I was on a Gnome, my starting stats were a little different (15-2STR/15DEX/8+2CON), so I needed a few more Great Dexterity feats.
I would consider starting with 6 CON. So you can start with 14 WIS and get another Epic Feat. Its not like anything will be able to touch you, outside of spells. Looking at my Char on player tools, -60....You'll end up with 188HP that way, without any +CON gear. Not great...but you'll be able to get another Epic Feat. Or Extend Spell, which I love for my Paladin chars. I couldn't live without my huge stack of Extended Divine Favours. :D
I would be able to have 14 str, too. Hm...
And a very disgusting 20% xp penalty for just about the whole build. I guess that's the price you pay for greatness!
Call me when you do a 40 percenter and then complain. I've done it on five or six characters now and when your getting 40 - 60 xp a kill in the abyss and your parties rolling 70's all you want to do is cry.
Nobody's crying. You're reading into something that isn't there. If I cared about the xp penalty, I wouldn't even bother but seeing how I did already make the character....
I rarely make characters that end up with an XP penalty before WAY late (if at all) in their lives, but I'm about to make an exception...and I wanted to make sure I understood how this works. I'm making a drow BG; he'll start at Rogue, then to Fighter. He'll be 3 Rogue/7 Fighter/10 BG pre-epic. Since Wizard is the drow male FC, I ASSUME I'll see a 20% XP penalty when Rogue and Fighter are not within 1 level of each other (Prestige Classes don't count against that XP penalty calculation). Is that correct? If I made a Fighter/Rogue/Sorceror, I'd get hit with 40% when the classes weren't within 1 level of one another (since none of the classes are the drow male FC). Am I understanding that correctly?
That's correct.
But why not go 10 Fighter/16 BG/2 Rogue (or 11 Fighter/16 BG/1 Rogue for EWS) instead? Zero XP penalty until the last couple of levels, and a better BAB.
Yeah, I thought of that. Basically I'm sacrificing 1 AB for EWS on a bonus Fighter feat, and I'm OK with paying the XP penalty to do that...and earlier UMD & Tumble dumps, and evasion throughout...and extra skill points. I'm cramming in EWF, EWS, EP, AS, Epic Fiend, and Over Crit. I was on the fence about Over Crit vs ESF: Discipline, but I decided my preference was the extra crit damage. He'll have max discipline (31), but Over Crit fits the 'screw-you-all-I'm-the-Chosen-of-Selvetarm' mentality more than ESF: Disc. Thanks for the quick response. I'm going to go get down with my Badness. :twisted:
long long time no see >_> long story short, i went on a journey to find a free fps mmorpg. there are none. im back =) (actually there was one, but the GM's are biased.)
simple question, how are the modifications to clerics looking? I was itching to try a mystic before I disappeared last time but turned out it was probably better to wait and plan it next time around. (the general idea is to combine either sorc/wiz with cleric. I already did a wizard/druid once, best rp character i've ever made =) )
I guess while im asking has anything else drastically changed since? last thing I saw change was pdk's and harpers, also spider forest area.
I am new to the module, and was wondering if someone could advise on the usefulness of cleric domains for a fighter cleric (ignore RP restrictions with regards to domain combinations in this discussion). Is trickery + travel still too good? How useful is war? I don't know how available haste, str, con and dex stats are from items, so it is difficult for me to judge. Or are there other domains that are equally as good? Assume that I have access to UMD. Thanks.
Don't come back to this topic or this server until you're willing to talk RP. That's not what this thread is for and that's not at this server is for, sorry.
I don't see what that has to do with my question. I am not ignoring rp in the sense of actually playing my character, I wanted to know which domains were most useful in general. In other words, if there was a hypothetical situation where the combination of domains good + evil were the most viable, people should mention it, despite the fact that in a real scenario you would not and could not pick these 2 together.
It's not worth mentioning if you can't do it in a real scenario or on Amia, which is what this topic is for.
Hypotheticals stay hypothetical and hgave very little use in this topic. The point is to give people advice and help clean up builds for people who aren't able to do it themselves, so that the numbercrunchers don't horde the advantage of being clever to themselves.
Telling us to "ignore RP" for any aspect of this is counter to "The Point".
To answer your questions: Our domains are done in such a way that every domain is useful on Amia, from the Bioware ones to our custom ones. Every deity has 6 domains and a large variety to pick from.
Ok, well then I have have a few more questions.
1) How prevalent is dispel throughout the mod (PvM mostly)? Essentially, is it necessary for me to take at least 23 cleric levels to be almost immune to g.dispel, or is it feasible to make a gimmicky build with 16 cl.
2) I've noticed that a lot of casters take epic summons. Is a summon (i.e. mummy dust) necessary to solo past 20? How useful are they at level 30?
a wizard past 20 doesn't need a summon to 'solo' >_> it makes a good addition if your a party of 5. not sure what to say about dispelling, people use dispell, and counter, some mobs happily spam dispells and bardic curses at you, there is alot of strategy involved in any aspect of combat really, even lowbie mobs have (mild) poison.
im not sure what to recommend however other than melee cleric with full plate and shield. or large hammer. needs more spice.
Quick question! Does Terrifying Rage on a Drow work? It's maximum level can only be 28, so will that affect his ability to strike fear into Epic level human characters? I tried reading the NWNwiki, but I'm still not exactly certain on how it functions.
Terrifying Rage is a Will Save vs Fear, the DC being the Rager's Intimidate score. So it's easy to see how effective that it can be.
Creatures up to 1.5x your level are affected by Terrifying Rage on Amia.
