Naivatkal & Svensk, thanks for the info. Very helpful. Looks like I'm in the ballpark.

While working on this spellsword build, I was looking over the Spells sidebar and noticed the following for Greater Sanctuary:

"While under Greater Sanctuary, the caster receives 100% spell failure, CL*5 Temporary Hit Points and 90% Movement Speed Increase. The duration has been changed to CL/6 Rounds. "

Can that duration be right? That would only give 5 rounds for a pure-build lvl 30 Wiz.

I don't think its written as it's supposed to. I believe it is 10 rounds + CL/6 rounds. It has always been like that. Only having 5 rounds as a level 30 is too much of a nerf.

Are those adequate stats? The AC seems decent; I'm wondering about the AB, will it hit often enough to do much damage, I'm thinking about PvM here.

I have no idea what the epic levels are like.

Is that without Tenser's? But yeah, it's enough for PvM, although bosses might be a bit hard to hit (Dominagus especially *cough*).

Heh you don't need to hit Dominagus. Cast prem and mestils and watch him wail on himself. It's most amusing.

@Ulir: The 41 AB is with Tensors. Thanks for the info about Greater Sancturay. 10 +6/CL rounds is still short, but at least it's something to work with.

I'm looking for a good Rogue / SD build. I've got a basic idea, but it's not as good as I'd like. And thus, I ask for help.

Geh, meant to say Monk / SD. Anyways:

Base Stats:

STR: 10
DEX: 20 -> 30
CON: 10
WIS: 14
INT: 10
CHA: 8

Feats:
4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 -> +1 DEX
Level 1: Monk, Dodge
Level 2: Monk,
Level 3: Monk, Mobility
Level 4: Monk,
Level 5: Monk,
Level 6: Monk, Weapon Finesse
Level 7: Monk,
Level 8: Monk,
Level 9: Monk, Circle Kick
Level 10: Monk,
Level 11: Monk,
Level 12: Monk, Stealthy
Level 13: Monk,
Level 14: SD,
Level 15: SD, SF:Tumble
Level 16: SD,
Level 17: SD,
Level 18: SD, SF: Hide
Level 19: SD,
Level 20: SD,
Level 21: SD, ESF: Hide
Level 22: SD,
Level 23: SD,
Level 24: SD, ESF: Tumble
Level 25: SD,
Level 26: SD, Epic Shadowlord
Level 27: SD, Epic Dodge
Level 28: SD,
Level 29: SD, Blinding Speed
Level 30: SD, Toughness

I'm not sure whether to keep Blinding speed or replace it with Epic Prowess. Toughness is also a maybe. Going Unarmed, maybe with a Handaxe or Kama.

Take Weapon Finesse as early as possible.
Trade the Skill Focuses in Tumble for Move Silently.
Ditch Blinding Speed, haste potions are better.
If you're going unarmed then take at least 16 levels of Monk for d20 fist damage.
Circle Kick is not very good, trade it for something else (Weapon Focus perhaps).

20 Monk / 10 Shadowdancer is pretty good.

20 Monk/10 SD (elf?)

Base Stats:

STR: 11
DEX: 19 -> 26
CON: 10
WIS: 14
INT: 12
CHA: 8

Feats:
Level 1: Monk, Dodge
Level 2: Monk,
Level 3: Monk, Weapon Finesse
Level 4: Monk,
Level 5: Monk,
Level 6: Monk, Weapon Focus: Unarmed
Level 7: Monk,
Level 8: Monk,
Level 9: Monk, Mobility
Level 10: Monk,
Level 11: Monk,
Level 12: Monk, Improved Critical: Unarmed
Level 13: Monk,
Level 14: Monk,
Level 15: Monk, Great Fortitude
Level 16: Monk,
Level 17: SD,
Level 18: SD, Blind-Fight
Level 19: SD,
Level 20: SD,
Level 21: SD, Armor Skin
Level 22: SD,
Level 23: SD,
Level 24: SD, Epic Weapon Focus: Unarmed
Level 25: SD,
Level 26: Monk,
Level 27: Monk, Epic Dodge
Level 28: Monk,
Level 29: Monk,
Level 30: SD, Epic Skill Focus: Hide/Spot (choose one depending on preference)

Use last level of SD to max out Spot and sneaking skills. 32 Discipline, 33 Hide/MS/Spot, 30 Tumble, rest wherever.

enjoy never getting hit, annoying monster and PC alike with monk speed + HiPS, etc etc

I dont agree. Cirkle kick is not good - its worse than that. Its broken and the worst feat you can get next to dirty fighting.

I concur. Circle kick is the worst idea... Yes, it's nice to get that extra attack on paper but on practice it's just yucky. Sometimes it circle kicks something that's out of your range, like cleave, where you stop attacking. Which is a nightmare fighting enemies that can sneak you or if you're dex based since it'll flat foot you and make you lose crap ton of AC before Uncanny Dodge.

There's also a targeting problem. You're trying to focus on taking down one enemy at a time. You get one enemy to Near Death and instead of killing that enemy, you circle kick, and they end up focusing on another enemy with full health.

Circle kick is the best feat in the game. All my monks have it. I also wear +5 Nymph cloaks on them, because they need to look pretty.

It was Sune who forgot to lock the cell because he was busy playing cards with Mosh. I, however, have nothing to do with the entire ordeal.

So I'm looking over the Druid class, and can't figure out how to decent AC and AB. With the builds I've tried, neither get very high, so I need help.

This is the best I've come up with so far:

Druid 25 Fighter 4 Rogue 1

14 Str -> 13
13 Dex
9 Con -> 10
17 Wis -> 18 + 8 = 26
13 Int -> 12
8 Cha

@ lvl 20: Druid 16 Fighter 4
Feats: Luck of Heroes, Blind Fight, Zen Archery, Called Shot, Empower Spell, Spell Focus: Evoc, Greater Spell Focus: Evoc, Weapon Focus: longbow, Impv'd Crit, Dodge, Mobility

Epic feats: Epic Spell Focus: Evoc, EWF, EMD, Great Wis, Armor Skin

AC: 44 (48 w/ Haste)
AB: 39 (41 w/ Bless and Aid)

I'd really like to figure out how to build a decent Druid, since I really dig the class. Help.

Dodge and Mobility are wasted feats.

You should be taking Point Blank Shot and Rapid Shot there.

Anyways your chaps AB =

16 Pre-Epic BAB
5 Epic BAB
5 AB from BoT GMW
14 Modifier with Wisdom Buffed out
4 Weapon focus/Epic Weapon Focus
+2 Aid/Bless
Total being: 46.

I thought WF and EWF added up to +3. But if you deduct -4 AB for Called Shot, that brings it down to 42. Is that good enough?

I was taking Dodge/Mobility to avoid all the AoO's he'll be facing using a longbow. I read there are items available that give Point Blank and Rapid Shot, so I was relying on finding/buying one of those.

I didn't read about any items that give Mobility, so I figured it made more sense to go the route I did...??

Dodge and Mobility are a waste because with the Rogue level that you are getting 30 Tumble with, Attacks of Opportunity are not an issue since the DC is only 15. See: Tumble

Tumble checks only help you avoid AoO from movement. They won't help if you're getting AoO due to firing a ranged weapon into melee.

You shouldn't base your build around feats on items.

Barb20/BG7/Rogue3 is doable. Don't bother with WIS; your duration is too horrible for the spells to be taken seriously.

16 Barb 9 BG 5 Master Scout also sounds a bit tasty.

Nyeh! Barb/BG/KC!
Make use of the CHA to both boost BG saves and divine might/shield, and not to mention the KC abilities!

They both seem tasty. Now to actually piece it together: With barbarian 16/blackguard 9/Sexy Commander 5 set at Chaotic Evil because the character is going to be quite mad.

Starting stats looked like this:
17 STR
10 DEX
10 CON
10 INT
9 WIS
16 CHA

Cha and Str ended at 20 so neither will be particularly epic but both will serve their purpose.

The feats I'd likely pick are:

Level 1: Barbarian: Power Attack and Cleave
Level 3: Barbarian: Weapon focus: battleaxe
Level 6 Barbarian: Blind Fight
Level 9 (1)Blackguard: Here I could either take toughness or knockdown. Knockdown might prove more important
Level 12 (4)Blackguard: Divine Shield
Level 15 (7) Blackguard: Divine Might
Level 18 (9) Barbarian: Great Fortitude
Level 21 (12) Barbarian: Armor skin. I could also take EWF: Battleaxe here if I really didn't want AS.
Level 24 (15) Barbarian: Here I can either take terror rage or just not bother and grab something like EWF: Battleaxe. If I didn't get terror rage I'd just dump taunt instead :P
Level 27 (2) Knight Commander: Epic prowess
Level 30 (5) Knight commander: Epic skill focus taunt or Intimidate, depending on what I take.

Nope

Theres actually not enough feats to make the BG/Barb/KC because of the lack of epic Feats.

You need SF: Discipline and Toughness to qualify for KC. Thats two out of your first eight feats. Four more feats are required for Power Attack, Cleave, Might, Shield. Two Feats are required for your Weapon Foci (Imp Crit, Weapon Focus). You need Blindfight so that eats an epic Feat. Epic Weapon Focus, Armor Skin, are both required feats. That leaves you a single free epic feat which if I was making this build would go onto thundering rage.

Your ability distribution is also poor.

20 Cha has no net gain because Blackguard saves/might/shield are limited to level.

14 or 16 would suffice and I would go with the Former and limit BG to 8 so I could pick up another Barbarian level.

Starting distribution:

18 Str -> 25
8 Dex
14 Con
10 Int
8 Wis
14 Cha

Ah. I didn't count that bit in. It wouldn't be very profitable for me to go KC and the character wouldn't do very well. Back to the drawing board.

Edit: The suggested stats will actually work really well. Later on he'll actually have some decent longevity to his divine shield and might, decent AB and he'll actually do well with rage. On top of that I think I'll take your advice and hit up Master scout, too.

Only if it wouldn't be a pain to do for you. I have a very rough idea of what to do with it and I'd figure I might take Master scout in the later levels to maximize its effectiveness.

Its basically what I listed for the KC build except with Master Scout and you change out the KC feats for SF Spot, SF Listen

In Epic its:

21 Blindfight
24 Thundering Rage (Barb 16)
27 Armor Skin
30 Terrifying Rage (Barb 17)

Master Scout 1: Epic Weapon Focus
Master Scout 2: Great Strength

Ahh. Thanks for the build advice. I've actually learned a few things about building blackguards and barbs.

Hi people. This is my first post in this thread. I suck at builds (terribly) so have been reading a lot here, and I used the CBC excel sheet to <try> something.... but I definitely need help !

I tried to roll a Gnome (nyctophobic) Jester (as per the D&D NPC class). See him as a prankster and a trickster, good at hiding 50 yards behind the others while making jokes about their combat style. I'd like him to be a good support though... maybe should he develop his taunt skills ?

I'd like to play this as a combination of bard and wizard (Generalist, with strong affinity to Illusion), and need a (big) hand making this a suitable build and avoid being too much of a party leech... Those two classes seem to be an odd combo so... any chance ? :?

Bard(19), Wizard(11), Gnome

STR: 6
DEX: 14
CON: 10
WIS: 12
INT: 16 (18)
CHA: 16 (21)

01: Bard(1): Curse Song
02: Bard(2)
03: Wizard(1): Combat Casting ??, {Scribe Scroll} => was aiming at low level Wiz for enhanced RP with Familiar
04: Bard(3): CHA+1, (CHA=17)
05: Bard(4)
06: Bard(5): Extra Music
07: Bard(6)
08: Bard(7): CHA+1, (CHA=18)
09: Bard(8): Greater Spell Focus: Illusion
10: Bard(9)
11: Bard(10)
12: Bard(11): CHA+1, << FEAT TBD >>, (CHA=19)
13: Bard(12)
14: Bard(13)
15: Bard(14): Extend Spell
16: Bard(15): INT+1, (INT=17)
17: Bard(16)
18: Wizard(2): Silent Spell
19: Wizard(3)
20: Wizard(4): CHA+1, (CHA=20)
21: Bard(17): Lasting Inspiration
22: Wizard(5): << FEAT ? >>
23: Wizard(6)
24: Wizard(7): INT+1, << FEAT ? >>, (INT=18)
25: Wizard(8)
26: Wizard(9)
27: Wizard(10): << FEAT ? >>, << FEAT ? >>
28: Wizard(11): CHA+1, (CHA=21) => access to lvl 6 spells
29: Bard(18)
30: Bard(19): << FEAT ? >>

any good ? what would be optimum feats and worthy skill point investment you think ?

Need a minimum of 20 bard levels to take that feat.

mind you, you can get decent mileage out of 12 bard levels or so, but that's more for fighter builds than mages.

Yup, you can take 20 bard levels and get Lasting Inspiration but you need to take Bard 20 in epic (so no sooner than level 21). At level 21 you can take it and then be golden (for that, at least).

okay thanks.
looks like Ba19/W1 pre-epic and Ba20 at Lvl 21 with Lasting Inspiration, adding 9 more lvl of wiz from 22->30 then ?
What about the other note on the wikia then ("Because of the required perform level, this feat cannot actually be taken until character level 22.") - This can be circumvented with gear ?

will Metamagic be of any help here, or should I invest in something totally different ?

I'm no builder either, but my 3 cents:

1) Have you considered Bard 20 Sorcerer 10? At least that way you'd get the synergy of CHA as the casting stat for both classes. Wiz 10 and Sorc 10 both get lvl 5 spells, so you're not losing out there. You do miss out on two Wizard feats tho.

2) You only need CHA 16 to cast all of your bard (and sorc) spells, I wouldn't go much higher and definitely not end on 21. And I really don't think you need INT any higher than 14 or 16.

3) I wouldn't gimp STR that much, you'll regret it. You won't be able to carry yourself around, much less any gear at all. Put those extra points from CHA and INT into STR and CON.

Lasting Inspiration also requires 25 Perform, so the earliest you can take it is 24. I recommend taking it at 30 so you can max Discipline.

>.>! <.<! Earliest you can take it is 22, not 24... Though Derk's suggestion to take bard at 30 to max out discipline is still a valid one.

Ermm Earliest you can take it is 23 with a Bard epic bonus feat.

22 is not a feat level.

In his build, he won't get a feat until 24, hence the earliest he can take it is at 24.

Oh that makes sense now! xD Well, this person isn't going full bard, so I thought Derk meant at bard level 24 >.>; Which doesn't make sense either now that I think about it, since you only need bard 20 for multiclassers...

... Shush. It's 5 in the morning. *Goes back to the cave!*

thanks for feedback, folks. I probably need to adjust a few things then.
Thinking about it, going the Sorc way would actually make sense character-wise, as spontaneous casting is closer to how I see this jester operate.
If going with Sorc, I presume this Gnome would suffer XP penalty ? Is that a big no-no usually ?
(Not that it would prevent me from enjoying this fun character !)

XP penalties are a drag. Taking the Sorc level early will add about 100k XP to reach lvl 30, so it's no small deal. But if you're not in any hurry to level, only you can know if it's worth it or not.

I usually try to put off until high epic levels any multi-class penalties, but most of my builds have some sort of penalty. Such is life in the multi-lane.

Does barbarian damage reduction stack with epic damage reduction?
