When did people stop reading my comments? Wizard/Cleric still makes a spicy little spellsword, although I must say that it would work better with Fighter or Paladin, but it's not really that bad as to not even consider it. Playing a wizard in PvM is such an even ride without any class at all that you can hardly go wrong about it. Cleric6 still provides a steroid fit to beef your baby up that is better than what Fighter and Paladin offer for that short while.

I've reworked it a bit where I was getting 22 wizard and 8 cleric. Was gaining full auto still spell and one epic spell. was hoping to get one mroe lvl in cleric to raise dead, but don't think i'll be able to do that without sacrificing a feat.

The ninth level would be primarily to get you more cleric dosage. And even if you decided on 22/8, there is absolutely no reason you wouldn't go 21/8/dumpling1 instead.

perhaps, but what I worry about is the feats. Id like to get at least one epic spell and the full auto still feats.

As you would be taking Wizard16/Cleric4 for your pre-epic levels, and as Automatic still spell only requires you to be able to cast level 9 spells and be epic, you can start taking those feats from level 17 Wizard onwards. The one epic spell is level 21 Wizard, btw.

should I start with cleric as my lvl 1 class or wizard. I'm thinking wizard then progress to maybe lvl 5 in wizard then take the 4 cleric lvls then go to 16 wizard after.

I would personally go straight Wizard16 first and only then take the Cleric. You simply are out of puff to keep up with being good at melee until about exactly level 16 when your spells effectively multiply in terms of numbers and duration.
EDIT: Hold on, you're doing the Wiz21/Cleric8 thang, then? Go Wizard12/Cleric8 pre-epic. It will be an arse, but glory be Divine Power that will yield you so much more that way. And as a sidenote, remember to max INT first to exploit skill points to the maximum.

Or go Sorceror 21, Cleric 8, Rogue 1 for divine might and shield goodness.

Wizard and Divine Might/Shield are not exclusive. With only 8 levels of Cleric, I would rather take Wizard as Charisma is easy to get via gear and buffs, and the feats really do come in handy.

I'm fascinated with Calimshan. In reading about the area, I came across a reference to a group called the Black Raiders. Here's my attempt at a build inspired by these nomadic cut-throats. Advice is always appreciated...
Earth Genasi - NE
Str 17 (19) - all increases to STR, ending at 26 Dex 10 Con 14 (16) Wis 11 (9) Int 14 Cha 8 (6)
Pre-Epic: 16 Barbarian / 4 Assassin Feats - Exotic Weapon, WF - Bastard Sword, Blind Fighting, KD, IKD, Imp Crit...+2 (suggestions?)
Epic: 4 Fighter / 5 Assassin / 1 Barbarian Feats - EWF, Epic Prowess, Armor Skin, WS, EWS, ESF: Disc, and Terrifying Rage
Skills: Disc 33, Intimidate 33, UMD 32, Tumble 30, Move Silently & Hide (cross-classed) 8 each, Concentration 25, Open Lock 10 (last 2 are negotiable: 35 extra skill points)
Assassin is more in keeping with the description of these nasty individuals, and stabbing someone in the back fleeing in terror may net me a "1" on a save from time to time. The assassin goodies allow some self-conceal, invis, a little darkness here and there...just a few shiny abilities that may save my hoop on occasion.
Would it be worth it to drop IKD (or go with a martial weapon) pre-epic and maybe drop ESF: Disc (since he's pretty undisciplined anyway...) & take Over Crit? Anyway...tear it apart.

Seems to me if you want to make someone from Calimshan you should use a Calishite subrace.

Or Air Genasi. There are a lot of them from that area, what with the djinn culture and such.

From what I've read, there are also Chultans, Fire Genasi, Halflings, Elves, Half-Orcs...pretty much everything.
The build was inspired by a single paragraph written about a group operating in Calimshan: I'm not tied to making the character a native...although it wouldn't be a stretch. The archetype fits any band of cut-throats. I'm more interested in the feat & skill selection and class distribution. I'll work the background independently. Thanks!

Calimshan is overwhelmingly human. The non human (non planetouched) tend to be slaves and lower class.

I don't roll a character w/o backstory, I'm not new to the server, & I understand an Earth Genasi from Calimshan wouldn't be anywhere NEAR common. I also understand that many people who post in this topic are looking for that kind of direction.
I'm not.
Mechanically, is the build sound? Can anyone recommend a tweak or 2? I'll handle the rest. Didn't mean to come off shitty

I'd go with a martial weapon on a non-fighter just to save a feat or two, but you don't look particularly strapped. May consider the disarm route for the pre-epic ones. I like toughness for some extra HP on a barbarian, but it's not necessary.
I'd take ESF Discipline at 30 in case you find some Epic discipline gloves or something.
Overwhelming critical by itself isn't really worth it most of the time, imo.
I frown at earth genasi barbarians generally, but hey. Calm barbarians exist.

Hadn't even considered Disarm; that's definitely worth a look. Sound advice on the ESF: Disc also. Lastly, I agree with the race choice, but this is my 'breaking the cliche' character. I play an Aasimar Paladin who's a bit holier-than-thou, and a Chultan Ranger who carries 2 kukri and literally NO other metal while using incorrect words when he speaks...I typically play 'the norm' because it's incredibly uncommon. Right now I'm torn between this Barbarian & an idea for a Duergar 'tunnel stalker': 16 Rog / 8 DwD / 6 F...with Epic Dodge.
Thanks for the feedback.

Careful with disarm. You could get a nasty DM smite if people think you abuse it. I don't think there is a script to place the disarmed weapon in the enemy's inventory, it falls to the ground

Not at all... Drow are the only thing that could even be considered, as no one invests that much into SR on a monk. Mords is a -10 of course, so that brings the drow SR down to 29 exactly, so you can't fail the check at all.

FTFY But that takes into account you don't get countered on your Mords, or you have it prepared, or you haven't already used it. Just saying

If I was suggesting that, I'd have made my comment somewhere else.
Here's a question:
Conjuration as a prohibited school restricts Raise Dead scrolls, I know. Does it restrict anything else important, like Cure potions? Would it bar someone from using any of the non-undead versions of Mummy Dust and EDK even though they can be taken mechanically?

Is it generally a good idea to specialize in a spell school with wizard, or would it be better to always stay as generalist?
+1 spellslot for each spell level certainly sounds good, but is it worth losing a spell school as a prohibited one?
If specializing is the way to go, which spell school in your opinion is the one that can be discarded to be a banned school?

I'd never recommend specialization. Each barred school has something fairly essential.
Illusion: Improved Invisibility (Though you might be able to get by with invis potions and powders. I'd probably go this route with a spec mage. Go diviner if you don't mind losing illusion) Transmutation: Many good buffs. Conjuration: Acid Sheath, Most Summons, Raise Dead Scrolls Divination: True Sight and Premonition Enchantment: Mass Haste, lots of good crowd control. Why Mass Haste is enchant in the first place, only Bioware knows. Truth be told, if you delve into the spellschool system as a whole, it's really fucked up.

I've never been able to RP a mage well because I tried to do a good 'jack of all trades' and I must didn't know the setting(forgotten realms) well enough.

You can easily be without divination. You have greater stoneskin and true seeing items to compensate. No big loss, really.

Well I have a wizard with evocation school as his chosen one, being without conjuration school is quite troublesome, not being able to use raise scrolls or having the funky summons at hand.
So I just wondered whether it is a good move to even take a specialization. Cant a wizard call himself an evoker, enchanter or illusionist even when being a generalist wizard with proper spell focuses, whats the RP point of view in that?
What comes to divination school, sure you can get true seeings from items, and premonition, although an awesome spell, if you are getting pummeled a great deal in melee as a wizard, something is going wrong in the first place, so it would make a good school to be prohibited. BUT, that would mean youd have to take necromancy as your chosen school, which is fishy, and RP-wise wont fit a large deal of my usual wizard characters at all :/

I personally wouldn't care if a generalist with the proper spell focuses called himself an evoker/enchanter/etc. If you've got epic spell focus, you've specialized without crippling yourself.

I call my sorcerer an evoker even though I can't specialize, she had all the spell focus in it and I so far havn't been told I shouldn't.

Eh, the two are pretty much synonymous IC. If Evocation is your expertise, you're an Evoker. Evocation is your "speciality", it's something you've "focused on." (And I'm sure not nearly all necromancers, illusionists or conjurers in the world have specialization or spell focus feats, since they're pretty low level and still studying their chosen school.) You can use all those terms interchangeably and I'm sure no wizard will think twice about it IC (and they certainly won't think you've picked the Expertise feat). What names we OOCly give to feats and other build options is a completely different matter.
On a different note, I find the whole Specialization mechanic pretty strange. You specialize in a spell school to the exclusion of another, but you don't actually get any better in that school (except for a minor and irrelevant identification bonus). Your average Illusion Specialist just casts more GMWs and Fireballs a day. >_> I wish specialization offered unique RP perks, but it's hard to think of any that could be represented in game easily without giving more actual power to wizards.
Specialization can be rather cool, though: if you actually choose to specialize in the school you have an IC interest in, you may end up losing some pretty popular spells. That forces you to get creative and find a way to fill your role with the spell selection you're given. It can lead to some pretty unusual combinatios that aren't necessarily very much inferior to the everyday bread and butter.

Synonymous, but still different. That School exclusion is the one thing that separates them ICly, really. It's why a sorcerer can't actually specialize. Even if you focus completely in one School, you still don't have an excluded School from those focuses. So a sorcerer can say they're an evoker all day long, but really, they're just a sorcerer, who can possibly resist being exploded a bit better than other sorcerers. Some sorcerers may come to have a better academic understanding of their abilities, and attempt to classify themselves as something like an evoker, which really, I find to be perfectly acceptable. Of course, really, anything you want to -say- ICly is perfectly acceptable. You just might be full of crap. *Shrug*
But, I digress. The difference between specialization and focus is the exclusion of a particular School, something sorcerers are not subject to, from a mechanics standpoint. But a sorc ICly saying they specialize in Evocation, because that's their focus, isn't really wrong. It just means something different to a sorcerer than it does a wizard.
