That is hardly applicable to the building topic. Overall though, with the changes I'd say ESF Divination has enough perks to warrant picking it up. Infact, like Naivy I prefer the varied and unique perks better than the vanilla DC increase.

For the winterwight summon how exactly is your caster level calculated? I wanted to do something with heavy palemaster, but didn't want to get gimped in not being able to use winterwight since I'd have more palemaster than wizard.

It is calculated by Wizard or Sorcerer levels + Palemaster levels. So, feasibly you could get it with as many Wizard/Sorcerer levels as 21 and as few Palemaster levels as 9 (as Summon Greater Undead is gained then). So long as the sum of the Wizard/Sorcerer and Palemaster levels is 29, you will nab the Winterwight.

so if I made a drow palemaster I'd have 28 mix of wizard/palemaster I'd still be getting the short end of the stick as usuall when it comes to special things and drow ecl screwing it up?

Apparently so. I was under the impression it was 31-33 CL, but the sidebar says 32-33.

I would just love to see a Power Word focused Spellsword. A idea Ive been thinking of for a long time. With only two true Power Word spells on the list I think.. A person could request very nifty Power Word spells imo.

You here 10 rogue levels so going rogue is not an option since you need 20 monk. 5 SD will be enough for epic dodge. 6 SD IF you need HIPS.

Yep, if you want epic dodge as an Aasimar and 20 monk levels, then this is your only option. You might as well take the 6th sd for HIPS, since you're already investing 5 levels of the class just for epic dodge, it can help out in situations, especially when people don't know you have it. 21/6/2 fighter/cot/or whatever works. 20/7/2 also a good option( the slippery mind and access to the 2nd SD store which has some okay items, though not as good as the 3rd sd store) If you really want that 6th unarmed attack then you could go 20/5/4 but you lose out on HIPS. Dex and Wis and Con are your main stats you'll want to get your +12 from items on, though Dex and Con being more important, wisdom sprinkle in if you can afford to for the extra ac. My monk has 60 ac and I didn't even powerbuild him, so you can get a lot higher than that, I hear some people have numbers like 70 ac on their monks.

Ok. I've been trying to come up with a build for this for a while now and it blows my mind. So here is the challange.

Currently I want to try to make a spellsword build with Wizard and Weapon Master Levels.

But this is the issue.

1. He must have full Evocation focus
2. He has to use a Rapier
3. He is Dex Based.
4. He is a Moon Elf.

If anyone can make it into something survivable, then I will give you major Kudos.

I knew a while back there was an elf( probably sun elf) mage who had at least 17 wizard levels and 7 weaponmaster levels the other 6 were either a mix of wizard or fighter. He had Dev Crit, duel wielding Kukri's....I'm not sure how survivable he was but it sounded awesome. But if you want to do an evo focused spellblade your best bet is not bother with weaponmaster and just use the standard 23/6/1 wizard/fighter/rogue.

Yeah your feats are all dedicated to WM requirements, and you have to either do 22/7/1 so you can get EMA. Without that, well, there's no real reason to do the spellsword lol

Here's something to work with.
As you can see it It lacks Improved Critical and Epic Weapon Focus. It's because it's so bloody feat hampered...

You're MUCH Better off trying a 24Wizard/4Fighter/2Rogue and make it STR based.

I'm on my phone so I didn't open Svensk's link.

24 wizard / 5 weapon master / 1 rogue could do well.

19 wiz/5 WM/6 fighter or 17 wiz/7 WM/6 fighter are the usual spreads.

Cleric/Fighter/Weapon Masters are fun, although not exactly a spellsword build. I made one once, and it was very fun to play. Using a bastard sword would be recomended since your ab isn't great and the crit is x3, so what hits is more likely on high rolls only. You probably won't be able to get dev Crit since you want lots of Wisdom, but the damage is there. Having EMD is nice too. No feats are used for casting in armor, so I personally would prefer this to the average spellsword build.

21 Cleric/7 WM/ 2 Fighter is good, or 21 Cleric/ 5 WM/ 4 Fighter (if STR is lowish), or 23 Cleric/ 5 WM/ 2 Fighter if you want more epic spells (EMA+EMD,+Ruin is nice).

Need some fine tuning on a build I worked out for a drow palemaster I'll likely be making.

12 Wizard/16 Palemaster Drow. It get's around 69 Ac withouth the expertise modes, so with the improved expertise mode it could get 79.

Stats: 9 str, 18 dex,12 con,8 wisdom,19(26 max) int, 10 charisma

feats: Spell Penetration, Greater Spell penetration, Spell Focus Necro, Greater Spell focus necro, extend spell, maximize spell.
three feats I'm not sure what to do with: Thinking of expertise, improved expertise and shield proficiency. With Tensers Ab I could likely get around a 39 ab with 2 attacks (3 with haste) if I take weapon finesse instead of the improved expertise.

Epic: Epic Skill Focus:Listen (or Epic spell penetration, not sure), Epic spell Focus necro, Armor Skin, Mage Armor, Greater Ruin (or Mummy Dust, not sure between the two yet).

Can't take EMA with clerics, arcane only (don't even think Bards can get it). Also, bastard sword is x2 crit lol

The dumbest thing there is cleric wm having spare feats to worry about something as silly as a exotic weapon focus

Melee clerics get on just fine without the heavy investment weapon masters require. I find all those feats and class levels to be wasted with a cleric. That's just me, though.

cleric/weaponmaster can get some mad AC and damage if done right. Almost unstobable when it's buffed up.

Only that dispel sucks when playing one. Most of the harder enemies now dispel your buffs.

A few basic questions for a spellsword build.

I see him focusing on controlling energy, therefore Evocation. But also mastering defensive spells, hence Abjuration. Conjuration would also fit his personality. Primarily a caster, but able to engage in a .

1) 53 AC (57 Hasted) and 40 AB, good enough?

2) Feats are the big question. I have 5 free feats and 1 free epic feat. Thinking of ESF: Evocation, GSF: Abjuration (or Conjuration), and KD. Does it make sense to go for two SF schools? Should I just max one school and grab IKD and maybe Luck of Heroes instead?

3) Is the increase to Spell Mantle power with SF:Abjuration Empowerable? e.g. a mage with GSF: Abjur, would an Empowered Spell Mantle absorb (1d8+8 +2d3)x1.5 spells?

4) Would GSF: Conj be more useful than GSF: Abjur? Conjur spells I can see him using are Web, Flame Arrow, Grtr Planar Binding. Abjur spells I can see him using are Minor Globe of Invun., Protect from Elements, Stoneskin, Spell Mantle.

I can't answer all your questions, but Knockdown probably isn't the best choice unless you had AB comperable to a fighter build. As far as the spell focus stuff- It's really up to you and what you want. Luck of Heroes and Toughness are pretty decent pre-epic feats to grab. Your AC is about the same as a fighter. I would recomend EMA as an epic feat because it opens up several gear slots that can be used to beef up your attributes, and of course EMD is always nice to have.

any thoughts to this? also for skills not 100% sure, but there is a ton of extra skills points. Was thinking some of the crafting skills, definately Spellcraft, cross-classing tumble, (is crossclassing disipline worth it? or a waste?) listen, since I can't take spot. Lore, since he's a wizard and wizards likes to learn things, probably cross-class apraise to go with the lore to show his knowledge of value for magical items ect.

Divination has Power Word, Stun/Kill. Both become better with spell focus and neither demands a save. Perfect for a spellsword and both spells are incredibly fun and underused IMO.

Don't bother with the shield profeciency- it will not serve you well in the later levels- I know from experience (unless you won't be casting spells in combat). I would go with Expertise and Improved Expertise, or Weapon Finesse, but not both. Your AB will most likely be crap anyways, even with the high-ish DEX. For skills, I would max spellcraft, Hide, and Move Silently (even though you probably won't be sneaking in PVM, it's good for rp reasons imo). Don't bother with Discipline- you will have enough AC as it is, so knockdown attempts won't hit too often, and if they do, you are immune to sneak attacks and you should survive long enough to drink a heal potion when you get up- and 15 Discipline is a waste no matter what anyways.

There is a large shield with 0 arcane spellfailure chance on it that you can mythal up. Why would you give up the +6 ac? What would be the most effective alternative? What other strategy would be more effective? Figured the higher the AC the less likely I'd be hit in combat, the more potential damage I could do for being alive longer.

With Tensers on, it could get two attacks at 39 and one at 34 per round, which isn't the best, but it's almost comparable to a rogue. I was thinking since the ac is going to be 69 without expertise I could play fight inbetween casting spells to conserve the usefull spells being a wizard. And when I needed to play Tank for a bit or something or PVP have the Improved Expertise so my ac is that much higher. Is that a bad strategy? It's primarily a casting wizard still and reallying on spells for DPS. Or is that a bad strategy with a palemaster?

I was borderline on the hide/ms too...but I might as well, going to have a ton of skill points, and it could come in handy when trying to hide from the mob of witchhunters. Yeah, you're right about the discipline, 15 wouldn't do anything anyway if they hit you to knock you down.

would giving up epic spell pen for Epic Skill Focus Listen be worth it? I figured with epic mage armor I could easily get max'd out listen, which most SD's tank in favor of spot. Also, I hear the Greater mummy is a pretty good summon, so mummy dust isn't needed, should I keep the greater ruin to give me a last second damage dealer when needed to save myself in PVM or PVP or would mummy dust be far superior to the greater mummy as far as the undead summons go?

Oh god, 39/34 isn't comparable to a rogue at all. A well built rogue can hit 43ish.

Well, that's if you mix 4 or so fighter levels in there, I know, I've got a melee rogue. But it isn't all that far off, would that be a bad strategy though? mixing in some melee attacks inbetween the spells? or would I be better of not bothering with weapon finesse and chose some utility that's good for wizard rp like craft wand, or maybe toughness/great fort to show his eventually tougher features by being a palemaster?

For the winterwight summon how exactly is your caster level calculated?
to expand on this...is it just wizard/sorc/palemaster levels...or would theoretically a level 21 cleric/10 palemaster get access to Winterwight?

It's Arcane Spellcasters only, i think. Cleric's are divine, so no.

Also about the greater mummy, I heard it can survive okay in PVM is that true? or should I give up greater ruin instead and take mummy dust to handle pvm things?

The greater mummy is not as good as an EMD summon, but it has it's strengths- the fear aura and the stunning blows are nice, but I believe it's AC is low. Honestly, It probably won't last much more than one or two spawns in the Abyss fully buffed. You can't really go wrong with EMD.

Nope, and the attempt to make them requestable by Cory was also was denied. They were seen as way too overpowered.

I think healkits work, and the other option is an unshift-heal-reshift. I never played a shifter though, so take that with a grain of salt.
