A fine vintage, late adolescence, about a 20 year old vintage. A nutty brown with hints of the green squirts. Obviously a vegetarian diet. Exquisite actually. Only for a more refined pallet.

You lose an epic feat, but get 4 bard pre-epic, I'm a little loopy from lack of sleep but I would think this should improve your base saves and your bab, leaving you with the same ab (you had taken epic prowess), and better saves.

Is there any valid reason to not go the full 6 SD and for instance stop at 4? Or should I always suck it up and take all 6 if I ever plan to use SD?

Personally I recommend 10 levels in SD, you go 6 if you want HIPS and able to maximise whatever other class(es) you may be going, any less, IMO, is pointless. And iirc you don't -need- SD levels to be an SD IC'ly.

That said, it's your choice to take however many levels you want, you could just take 1 in SD if you wanted your character sheet to officially show you are in fact an SD.

Oh and a little side note, 4 SD is all you need for the lesser shadow jump to be taught to you.

No... if you want your character to be a shadowdancer, you take shadowdancer levels.

Ok, so I know I'm new here and all, and I've seen a ton of complaints about alt-itis, but this is a character concept I'm working on for a rainy day and would like some help so that when said day comes I'm ready to go. The idea is to have a martial focused Drow Blackguard, and since I've never really built or played a Blackguard, nor a Drow (prior to this I've pretty much only played the Bioware stuff), I would really appreciate some checking of my numbers, so to speak. Also any additional advice on such a character, or the news that this is simply not viable, would be welcome. So without further ado, here is my current build:

Race: Drow

Starting Stats
Strength: 14
Dexterity: 12
Constitution: 12
Intelligence: 14
Wisdom: 14
Charisma: 16

Leveling Fighter 10 / Rogue 2 / Blackguard 16

1. F1 - Power Attack, Cleave
2. F2 - Weapon Proficiency Exotic
3. F3 - Weapon Focus: Bastard Sword
4. F4 - Weapon Specialization: Bastard sword, STR +1
5. F5 -
6. F6 - Blind Fight, Great Cleave
7. F7 -
8. BG1 - STR +1
9. BG2 - Improved Critical: Bastard Sword
10. BG3 -
11. BG4 -
12. BG5 - Divine Might, STR +1
13. BG6 -
14. BG7 -
15. BG8 - Divine Shield
16. BG9 - STR +1
17. BG10 -
18. F8 - Toughness, Knockdown
19. F9 -
20. F10 - Improved Knockdown, STR +1
21. BG11 - Epic Weapon Focus: Bastard Sword
22. R1 -
23. BG12 -
24. BG13 - Great Strength, Epic Prowess, STR +1
25. BG14 -
26. BG 15 -
27. R2 - Armor Skin
28. BG16 - Epic Fiendish Servant, STR +1

I used both the NWN wiki and the Amian changes page to base my starting stats on getting the most out of the class. As far as skills go I maxed out discipline, took the required 5 points of hide, and used the rogue levels to get the most out of tumble and use magic device, the leftover 38 can go anywhere, though probably heal. from level 22 on I'll be up against an XP penalty, but it seems to be worth it for an additional 6 points of AC and the ability to use just about anything. So if I have done anything obviously wrong here, or you can see a way that this can be improved, please let me know.

That's pretty good, and would serve you well as-is, but I'd suggest that you move your last fighter level into epic to allow you to pick up epic weapon specialization. To do this while retaining your improved knockdown, I'd suggest you drop great cleave, as it really isn't worth much if it isn't being used to fulfill devastating critical's prerequisite. Another thing to consider is switching out toughness for extra turning, as those six extra shields/mights are more likely to save your bum one day than 31 extra health on a predominately d10 build.

I don't know who solid snake is but this is Missus build and I can attest it's a fine and useful one in many situations. Trapping, scouting, disabling, flanking, gadgets, and general mayhem all rolled in one.

I can see switching out toughness for extra turning, makes sense enough, and I don't mind dropping great cleave in favor of attaining something better, but are 4 extra points of damage per hit worth trading out 1 BAB? Because the only way to take my last fighter level in epic is to move a level of rogue into pre-epic. I don't really know what the ACs of higher end mobs are since my only character is currently level 7, but should I be more concerned about hitting reliably than a few extra points of damage?

4 damage is superior to 1 ab on most builds, this one included. You can also save a few skillpoints that'd otherwise be cross-classed by taking your rogue level early enough to meet the blackguard hide requirement, as well as giving yourself that sorely needed smidgen of tumble for a couple extra ac whilst leveling.

Ok, that is all very reasonable and I do like taking rogue earlier from an RP standpoint was well. As long as I don't confuse myself too much in making the adjustments I should be covered. Thank you very much.

You can't take WS nor EWS with WM level. For some reason, NWN makers decided to omit that feat form WM list of epic feats. God forbid masters of weapon can have it, but generalist fighters and divine oriented DC, no problem!
Could nab EWF instead.
Though you'll have gear nightmare with this build, I reckon.

Edit: Might switch last WM and fighter levels.

You're missing an epic feat, take G-Str 2 here, gives you +1 AB, Devcrit DC, damage

What I'd do:

Epic: Drop weapon specialization, pick up epic prowess. Note that you need to take WS and/or EWS on fighter levels.
Another option would be:
Drop KD and take weapon specialization pre-epic. Then take epic weapon specialization in epic, dropping epic prowess.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Other than that and gear nightmare does this build look viable?

To Kobra: Is dropping knockdown wise?

Well hm... way I see it:

Option 1: Get KD, 50 AB,
Option 2: 49 AB, +6 damage on option 1.

Your damage will be on option 1, assuming a longsword:
1d8+1d6+14(STR)+4(enh) = 20-32
Option 2: 26-38

Tough call. Depends on how much you want to rely on your HIPS and DVCrit.

Dunno really, you stealth skill isn't looking too good, you'll have to invest a lot in stealth gear, and you can forget full plate/tower shield if you wish to be at least half-serious with it, or even amateur spotters and good deal of epic-level mobs will see you.
Not to mention that investing both in stealth, strength and dexterity gear wise will be very very troublesome. And lack of UMD, especially with such low saves (fortitude against area effect death spells or implosion for example) will just gonna make you cry.

Yeah, for the record, my SD is rockin' 93/77 H/MS, she's a Dexer, and she STILL gets seen by mobs. Str-based SDs are haaaaaaaard to pull off.

Hello everyone,

I'm curious about the Mighty property. Is it common to find it above 5 on items on this server? I'm trying to decide on a starting STR for an archer.

I'm also curious about a strong Barbarian build if anybody has any tips for that.

Oh uh, what about a Bard/AA/DC? I dunno how viable a paladin/AA would be, though I guess it could be okay with divine shield to compensate for lack of tumbledump. DC can serve the same effects and works well for an elf, especially Solonoran.

With a paladin/AA, I would personally go for heavy paladin levels and just enough AA levels to get the special arrows a couple for AB points. Much more goodness comes from the full pally levels in the long run I believe. I would consider MAYBE doing a zen based paladin perhaps with some charisma for the divine shield and might. Im mobile on cell so I cant really go into more detail feat wise lookup, etc.

There's no mighty property on any item in excess of 5+, unless you count throwing axe and dart, which automatically mighty up to the thrower's strength modifier.

'The' barbarian build is 24 barbarian, 4 fighter, 2 rogue.

Hey guys, needing some help on a build. I am wanting to make a svirfneblin, I've got his RP all set up and such but I don't know what kind of class I want to make him. I really don't care WHAT kind of class either, I'm just wanting something fun. I can make the class work with the RP. So do you guys have any decent builds that would be good for a svirf? It doesn't have to be the best at PVP, just able to survive at PVM. All help is appreciated, thanks guys!

How can the roleplay be 'set up' if you don't know what class it is going to be? You're going to have to provide at least an alignment if not more for anyone to take a stab at this.

Hm, well I guess I should say I have his personality set up. Alignment would be True Neutral or Chaotic Neutral. What else you think I should add? I was just wanting to play his personality more than anything.

Take two for a new character, thanks for the input for the Bard attempt, it sucked.

This one should be interesting.

Air Genasi Rogue15/Monk9/SD6

Str:14 ( a few + with items, potions)
Dex:18 (max 38)
Con:12
Int:14
Wis:12 (max24)
Cha:6

Simply put, Rogue levels allow Epic Dodge, Improved Evasion and + 8d6 sneaks

Monk levels grant +8 AC, + 30% movement speed and usage of Kamas with 7 attacks per round, 8 with flurry, 9 hasted

SD levels allow cool SD RP and well, HIPS!

The tactics would be "hit and run" with flurry of blows for massive sneak damage, AC should be a reasonable 55 and the incredible Epic Dodge feat with decent items. UMD would be invested in, to use Improved Invisibility wands and Flame Weapon scrolls, for example. Yeah, I know, AB will be stuck around lowish 40 but monk ab progression compensates somewhat.

Epic feats besides the obvious would be Epic skill focus hide and armor skin. (MS will be high enough, besides nobody takes listen...)

PVM it should be -good-, PVP, it should be rather awesome if played smartly.

Your thoughts?

I would recommend taking one point off of Rogue and putting it onto SD. With 7 SD, you get free slippery mind, improved summon, and other neat IG stuff. Take one more point off of Rogue and put it on Monk, to even it out at 10. I believe your saves will be increased, and you'll get an extra Monk AC.

So final build looking like 13 Rogue/10 Monk/7 SD

Old returning player looking to get a fresh start here.

I had a look at the modified Knight Commander class on Amia and wanted to see if I could make something fun with it. Input would be appreciated. My aim was to make a fighter type of character with decent saves and fun abilities while trying to avoid sacrificing AC/AB in the process.

Human, Tuigan, Neutral Good

Fighter 23 / Bard 2 / Knight Commander 5

Strength 17 (26 total with feats)
Dexterity 7
Constitution 14
Intelligence 12
Wisdom 8
Charisma 16

Fighter Lv. 1-11
Lv. 1: Weapon Prof. Exotic, Luck of Heroes, Great Fortitude
Lv. 2: Weapon focus
Lv. 3: Toughness
Lv. 4: Weapon Spec
Lv. 6: Iron Will, knockdown
Lv. 8: Improved Crit
Lv. 9: Skill Focus: Disc
Lv. 10: Blind Fight
Bard, Lv. 12: 15 tumble and spellcraft along with knight commander requirements. Resist Energy: Sonic
5 Knight Commander in a row here
Lv. 15: Resist Energy, Electrical
Fighter Lv. All the way to 30(bard for 30 tumble/spellcraft being the exception)
Lv. 18: Power Attack, Cleave
Lv. 20: Great Cleave
Lv. 21: Armor Skin
Lv. 22: Epic Weapon Focus
Lv. 24: Epic Weapon Spec, Overwhelming Crit
Lv. 26: Epic Prowess
Lv. 27, second bard level here for skill dumps: Great Strength I
Lv. 29: Devastating Critical
Lv. 30: Great Strength II

Was thinking of getting lightning reflexes and hold back on the resist energy at first but I figured it would be rather pointless seeing as things that are worthwhile saving from are things I wouldn't be able to with this build anyway. Also not entirely sure on getting dev crit but I'm cant think of an alternative that would be a better choice in its place, the small CC it provides seems useful. I figured I'd just try and keep 4+ charisma on my gear at all times, 5 modifier with 5 commander levels seems to be the sweet spot considering the modifier caps on the abilities.

Also, was thinking of either getting katana or bastard sword as my focus weapon, figured I'd pick the one that has more common leveling items so I don't end up using a longsword just because every blade in my chosen weapon type has silly properties or something, losing the weapon focus/spec bonuses for doing so. Would prefer using bastard sword or katana as I stated, but if that turns out to be a poor choice for leveling I might settle for a longsword or any good, decent looking one hander and skip out on the exotic feat in favor of taking power attack as a bonus fighter feat rather than a regular one.

For this character, you'll have a definite abundance of pre-epic feats, even if you go with an exotic weapon.
You won't need a 16 CHA for this character, definitely nice for a magnetic personality but you can easily go with 14, that will be much easier on your stats. With 4, I'd put 2 into INT (nice to have 14 INT), and 2 into DEX (so your character isn't such a klutz that your character would drop his sword every time he grasped it. Though if you want that as a comic part of his RP, by all means, go for it)

Anyways, I'd go 15/5 Fighter/Knight commander pre-epic, and go 24/5/1 Fighter/KC/Bard or Rogue, taking the tumbledump class level late epic so to get the full dump. With 14 INT you'll be able to get the KC skills easily even with crossclass points. You might also want to consider rogue rather than bard because of an issue where taking a bard level makes your character a dispel magnet. 24th fighter level gives you an extra epic feat.

Anyways, feat wise, here's what you should cover:

Pre-epic(8+8F): Exotic, Weapon Focus, IMPR Crit, Blind Fight, Weapon Specialization, KD, IKD, SF Disc, Toughness, Power Attack, Cleave, G-Cleave, 4 Free
Epic(4+4F): EWF, Armor Skin, EWS, Eprowess, G-Str 1-2, OV Crit, DV Crit

For your free feats, I'd go with one of two picks:
1: Luck of heroes, G-Fort, Iron Will, Lightning Reflexes (+3 to all your saves)
2: G-Fort, Iron Will, Disarm, IMPR Disarm (+2 Fort/Will, disarming goodness

You raise several good points.

I initially wanted to make it a 1 level in tumbleclass char but I'm not entirely sure how I'd manage leveling without the tumble bonus. If it actuallly is doable without the bonus I'd prefer it for sure but the problem is it feels a bit risky to not split skill dumps on two levels as I can't guarantee having a buffer/healer to back my lower AC up. Also I chose bard above rogue for spellcraft to give another 6+ bonus saves vs spells. Would my character actually be weaker in the long run for choosing bard due to the dispel thing? I feel like the saves beat the dispel issue.

As for the attribute points, same deal as with the tumbleclass here. Truth be told I don't actually remember a lot of things about Amia anymore (recently returned to the server like 3 weeks ago or so after several years of being away) so I figured it would be a safe bet to get 16 charisma and just get 4+ from gear for the 5 modifier. Can I actually accomplish the same charisma by getting more charisma on my gear without having to make the gear weaker in other departments? If so I would redesign the attribute split for sure. I think the only problem with the build is that I'd be going in without any of the standard knowledge (gear that usually drops for the weapon focus thing for instance), don't want to risk messing myself over if I manage to reach the level cap and all that.

I would suggest shifter as the class has a nice synergy with the Deep Gnome's racial traits, but for lore correctness I'd suggest either a rogue of sorts, or an illusionist wizard. Pick one, and I'll do a build! :D

Got bored. Made a BG build. Pick away:

Fighter(12), Blackguard(13), Knight Commander(5), Tuigan

STR: 17 (26)
DEX: 8
CON: 10
WIS: 14
INT: 13
CHA: 14

01: Fighter(1): Skill Focus: Discipline, Power Attack, Knockdown
02: Fighter(2): Weapon Focus
03: Fighter(3): Toughness
04: Fighter(4): Weapon Specialization
06: Knight Commander(1): Cleave
07: Fighter(6): Improved Knockdown
08: Blackguard(1)
09: Blackguard(2): Improved Critical
12: Blackguard(5): Divine Shield
15: Blackguard(8): Great Cleave
16: Knight Commander(2)
18: Knight Commander(4): Blind Fight
19: Knight Commander(5)
20: Fighter(7)
21: Fighter(8): Great Strength I, Epic Weapon Focus
23: Fighter(10): Epic Weapon Specialization
24: Fighter(11): Great Strength II
25: Fighter(12): Overwhelming Critical
26: Blackguard(9)
27: Blackguard(10): Devastating Critical
30: Blackguard(13): Epic Prowess, Armor Skin

Discipline 33(44), Heal 33(35), Hide 5(4), Lore 4(5), Persuade 4(6), Taunt 4(6), Tumble 15(14), remaining skillpoints 6

It's essentially organized to get the to BG asap, plus having a level of KC for the first aura during leveling. Also moved said KC up a notch so as to get IKD asap as well, and then late epic BG levels for early (level 27) DevCrit action. No idea what to do with the extra 6 skillpoints, not like they will matter for much anywhere haha. And I know there is no Taunt; it's only good for some situations and that one KC aura so I skipped it. If it's really necessary I can swap a point from DEX into INT. Also, skipped Epic Fiendish to boost STR more, basically.

Ends up rather nasty with:
AB: 25 base + 6 base STR + 6 STR gear + 3 WF/EWF + 1 Prowess = 41 + 4 weapon = 45 + 1 Bless + 1 Aid + 3 Divine Favor = 50 AB (at least)
Hitpoints: 330
Saving Throws (Fortitude/Will/Reflex): 22/17/11 (not counting anywhere from +2 to +8 from CHA/gear)

I'm really not sure when it comes to BGs, but it looks rather solid.

I'm not sold on the idea of a blackguard KC. Sure, there is something wildly appealing about the idea of a dark foreboding presence, but in practice I doubt the KC auras will be put to much use.

Blackguards and other visibly evil characters I've found are far more prone to leveling alone than the conventional archtype of character that I've seen dabble in KC and unless you pick a specific diety to worship or a particular evil niche to occupy, you'll very rarely get out with a familiar crowd of level 30s for epic loot grinding.

There would be a saving grace though in the fact you could use the auras to further supplement the very powerful fiendish servant summon, however, as this build opts for more fighter levels instead of the all important 16 blackguard for Epic Fiendish Servant, its duoing partner will be sub-optimal. My advice would be to drop a few fighter levels thus losing dev, but instead picking up that big fat summon and relying on knockdown solely as the build's disabler.

The only version of a KC/BG working that I can see involve Monk and not fighter. But from a concept perspective I very literally can't ignore how superior

13 Rogue 1 Ranger 16 Blackguard (Epic dodge)
10 Rogue 4 Fighter 16 Blackguard (Str Based, Decent Sneak Die, Darkness/Ultravision spamming whore)
2 Rogue 12 Fighter 16 Blackguard

I've also had success with

10 Monk 4 Fighter 16 BG which directs me to the only version of the KC/BG that would be workable for me personally and that is

9 Monk 16 BG 5 KC

You already get three of the feats your taking with fighter for free and since the option for weapon spec is gone you are at the same point in pre-epic that you are with what you've written.

Pre-Epic Feats: (8 Monk -> 4 BG -> 2 KC - 4BG)
Power Attack, SF: Discipline, Great Cleave, Weapon Focus, Improved Critical, Divine Might, Divine Shield, Toughness

Epic Feats: (6 BG -> 1 Monk -> 3 KC)
Epic Weapon Focus, Overwhelming Critical, Devastating Critical, Epic Prowess

BG Epic Feats:
Armor Skin, Epic Blackguard Summon

On a tuigan as a minmaxer the starting abilities would be

19 STR
7 DEX
8 CON
14 WIS
10 INT
14 CHA

Still I'm pretty much with Bini in that the idea is not something I'm sold on.

8 CON? Gross.

Whyfor the unsoldness on the idea? I dont' see what a stretch it would be to have a BG be a leader. They are dark, brooding, yet can be charismatic in their own way, and seem to be a good leader/ commander type of class. Obviously it would be moreso with other baddies, but with others he can just pull off the gruff commanding personality and it pays off (ie the KC auras). The BG/KC combo seems to have good synergy.

DevCrit was an afterthought, mostly because it's a nice thing to have and goes pretty well with the concept (in general).

I really don't like the idea of Monk, what's the purpose of it in the build? More AC? Being cheesy with dual kamas/fists? You looks out on that sweet 24/7 +6 damage and also 2 points of BAB, though on the flipside you get +3 AC. That's nice, but is it worth the AB and damage hit? Not thinking so. Of course, you get Epic Fiend, but I was not envisioning it as a solo build. I mean, it likely will be able to, but it's more of a dark commander type.

edit: Derp, forgot about there being a full tumble-dump class. But, tumble dumps are so blase.

edit: Also, realized I could do 9 fighter/16 bg/5 kc and still get Dev Crit and Epic Fiend, just have to ditch Armor Skin. Hmmmmh.

My BG leveled regularly with groups up to and including the occasional paladin who never figured out he wasn't just a DC or WM unless he went out of his way to advertise it so it depends how you play it. The concept definitely works which is more meaningful than server demographic.

Monk gets a lot of neat feats for free and they're an underplayed class which really are quite cool, lot of flavour that can work with BG, plus the wisdom synergy. Don't you do better for BAB by taking a full-BAB class anyway?

You can live without Armor Skin if you have Divine Shield IMO but that's just a gut feeling, I ain't run the numbahs.

As for the 8 con thing he specifically said that was the minmax build. A good policy is to take a minmaxed build and chip away until you have something that works but won't kill half the asian population of the world with its cheese content.

More AC is always, always worth it.

At least, that's how I build. I'd rather maximize AC and stay alive longer even through hitting for less damage. If you're fighting things, the longer you can stay alive, the more damage you can deliver in turn. This only grows when you're facing more than one enemy. I would probably take Armor skin AND Divine shield. Why settle for a middle ground by choosing one or the other, when you can choose them both and -really- excel in one category?

I like survivability on my characters. Big time. It could be because my characters have a penchant for 'drawing aggro' (Both from monsters, and PC's). Saves and AC are hugely important.

At the risk of turning this into an editorial - of course more AC is always good but you have to think about what you're giving up - Devcrit which is pretty good and particularly useful on a BG, and incredibly fun ("POW! DOWN AND OUT! POW POW POW!") or Epic Fiend (having an extra guy who is awesome makes so much difference for survivability, also it's a funky summon and funky summons are the best thing ever for RP potential and stuff).

But I dunno I haven't been playing as long as some people and my criteria is probs totally different.

Yeah I just wanted to poke fun at it

As for the rest, thanks on that post. And Monk is not a full BAB class ;p Fighter/BG/KC are, however.

I likes to make fairly good builds that had splashes of RP (or in the case of Salema, for example, a huge splash of RP... and she could still be effective), hence the combinations I have come up with. I think I like the idea of the Epic Fiend over Armor Skin and Epic Prow. Still should slam about 50 AB, so that's nice (16 BG adds +1 to Divine Favor, so that replaced Epic Prow somewhat).

I am building a 24 Sor/1DD/5KC and need some critiques. I plan on later releveling to a 21Sor/4DD/5KC more for RP then for building. Anyway here are the feats I am taking in order.

It will be 10 Sorcerer levels, 1 DD, 5 KC, and then the rest Sorcerer
1: SF:Evo, Toughness
3: SF: Necro
6: Extend
9: SF: Discip
12: GSF: Evo
15: GSF: Nec
18: Maximize
21: ESF: Evo
24: ESP: Nec
27: ES: MD
29: Armor Skin?
30: Great Cha

I was envisioning this build as a arcane tactician that help his group with a summon, auras, taunting, and debilitating spells, and a few buffs (not a buffbot)

So first is the selection of feats okay? Not sure about Armor Skin. Second is there a thread to discuss specific spells or is this the place?
