Probably better off dropping charisma to 10 and evening int and wisdom out to 14, more skill points and such that way, then you can buff str up to 24, or even 25-26 if you take great strength and go for the Overwhelming / dev crit line of feats. I would recommend scimitar for 1 handed weapon if you want that, otherwise, I would suggest you drop 2 rogue levels (crippling strike isn't really all that great in my opinion, it can be negated with a neg energy protection potion) and picking up 16 Blackguard, that way you can get the epic summon which is pretty good. Also, improved power attack is really not worth taking. Might want to take great fortitude instead of improved expertise, along with improved disarm and the like. Blind-fighting is necessary too.

Mirvala: Like any other caster class, squeeze as many levels as you can into it. 23 is a Bard bonus feat level, and 25 is a key Song point because it puts the AC boost/drain to 6.

Assuming you're going feytouched because you like the race's RP, then 23/6 or 25/4 and sod the fourth attack.

So is a 21 Bard/5 KC/4 Fighter just a bad idea? And is 25 Bard/5 KC flat out superior to 25/5 Fighter? Or is the latter hella viable? I was thinking of the 21/5/4 to be a pretty melee-ish bard with all dem auras and EWS, along with more feat-goodies. However, is 21 just 'too little' bard?

Oh yeah, derp. That's totally true. You'd think I should know this, but I don't play bards so... I'll blame it on that XD

In that case, is 25 Bard/5KC pretty much more support focused and 25/5 Fighter more melee focused? I know you can get 4 APR with the first, but the latter gets EWS and more feats. So, more curiosity on the advantages.

I wanted to make the character more of a rapier specialist/duelist/combat-oriented person with magical aptitudes. Hence why I tried to squeezed maximum AB/attacks in there.

23/6, and keep the same feats? I'll take Lasting Insp' on the bard bonus feat, and then it frees up a slot for a general epic feat.

I'm actually kind of disapointed that the CHA will be so low. With a 40 level cap it'd be 14-16, or if it weren't for those awesome Blackguard spells, WIS would be dropped-CHA boosted. What about the other rogue bonus feats? Slippery mind/Improved evasion/whatever the others are :D Why great fortitude and not iron/epic will? Are mind immunity gears that common? And yeah, idk how I forgot to work blind fight in there. :?

I hope not, because my guy's finishing on Bard20.

I'm avoiding the Mindflayers like the plague, unless there's a CL25 supplying the mind protection and Improved Invis.

I haven't played a KC yet, so I can't comment on them except to say that Bard25/KC5 gets mentioned more often than Bard30 as the best party buffer, and Bard25/Ftr5 is a classic reliable allrounder.

Fortitude tends to be the main save or die save, ie fighting beholders or Wail of the banshee. Improved evasion may be the only worthwhile one, given you can just buy lesser mind blank potions, but since you're going strength based and not dex based, just not terribly worthwhile in my opinion. If you were going dex based, I would've suggested 13 rogue 1 fighter 16 blackguard, so you can pick up epic dodge and have your epic summon tank for you while you sneak attack everything. Your AC would be much higher that way.

Hello, new to the server and figured I would start with something simple for a first build. Looking for tips on this build for a Human and hopefully I didn't miss anything or take something on a level I couldn't. Also looking for any and all references for information about Tuigan. I've hit up the most obvious ones on Forgotten Realms wiki and done a couple searches, especially would love any Amian specific references. (Or what books to try and locate) Basic premise for this character: I wanted to build a strong warrior who places his faith in his weapon instead of magic. Ideally looking to be able to handle PvE with ease and not get completely dominated in PvP. Here's what I have so far:

20F/7WM/3R

STR: 17
Dex: 13
Con: 14
Int: 14
Wis: 10
Cha: 8

1: F: Weapon Proficiency Exotic/Weapon Focus/Dodge
2: F: Expertise
3: F: Mobility
4: F: STR 1 (18) Weapon Spec
5: F:
6: F: Spring Attack
7: F:
8: F: STR 1 (19) Whirlwind Attack
9: Weaponmaster: Blind Fight, Weapon of Choice
10: Weapon Master: (2)
11: Weapon Master: (3)
12: Weapon Master: (4) Str 1 (20) Improved Critical
13: Weapon Master: (5)
14: Weapon Master: (6)
15: Weapon Master: (7) Knockdown
16: F(9): Str 1 (21)
17: F(10): Improved Knockdown
18: F(11): Power Attack
19: F(12): Cleave
20: F(13): STR +1 (22)
21: F(14): Great Strength I (23) Great Cleave
22: R(1):
23: R(2):
24: F(15): STr +1 (24) Great Str II (25), Epic Weapon Focus
25: F(16): Epic Weapon Spec
26: F(17): Overwhelming Critical
27: F(18): Armor Skin Epic Prowess
28: F(19): Str +1 (26)
29: R(3):
30: F(20): Devastating Critical (Extra Feat)

I tried to net all the staple Melee feats (Blind Fight, WF, EWF, WS, EWS, EP), and add in DevCrit to further emphasize mastery with his chosen weapon. I think I still have an extra Epic feat. I wanted to pick up Armor Skin because somewhere on the forums I read this is an AB/AC server. Also looking for tips for skills. Of course Disc/Tumble are hopefully maxed with this build. Nothing special for a first attempt but I figured most people have built this same style of character (+or- the Exotic Proficiency) so should be able to get some decent advice.

If you want to min/max a bit more, you could drop 2 from Con & 1 from Int, start on an 18 Str & spend your other epic feat on Great Strength III...even juicier AB

The stats are pretty set for the character concept. 14 con sounds to me enough to represent a physically tough character but not a frighteningly tough individual like a Barbarian who you can slash across the chest and he doesn't even seem to notice the wound. The int is also important as well to represent his status as an intelligent fighter, who studies combat and his weapon practically religiously. :) I'm really at a loss for what to pick for skills besides the usual Tumble/Disc. Traps doesn't really fit, he's not particularly well spoken so social skills are out, maybe lore?, picking locks or pockets strays too far on relying on his weapon and personal strength, concentration maybe? to represent intense focus in battle?, maybe bring intimidation up since it is cross classed at the start? That extra feat is just sitting there still though staring at me...

I'd take epic fort for the spare feat, concentration and heal for skills, maybe taunt, intimidate, or lore if you want something different.

Lore could be fun if you want him to be some sort of Clausewitzian/Jominiesque figure, who not only fights as an individual but is a military tactician.

For the lulz, it's worth mentioning that Improved Whirlwind Attack has had the 23DEX requirement HAKed off it here. With your sensible hat on, you'd be better taking Epic Fort, but I used to have IWWA on my DEX WM and it was amusing.

I'll add my tuppence worth to Noct'uul's and say go 18 start STR and Great STRIII, though. 40STR on a human is le bragging.

Disc, Taunt, Tumble, UMD are the main skills 30 ranks in each. Have some extra skill points to throw around, not sure where they'll end up, thinking intimidate, lore, listen, search, or spot, not sure yet :D.

Feats: Armorskin, Cleave, Crippling Strike, Epic Wpn Spec (and the rest that go with), Expertise/Improved Expertise, Great STR 2, Improved Crit, Improved Disarm, Power Attack/Improved Power Attack, Luck of Heroes, Sneak Attack +5d6, Blackguard Sneak Attack +4d6, Toughness.

Not sure which weapon to specialize in either, 1h and shield, or 2hander. Was thinking either longsword or greatsword, but I'm open to ideas

Edit: Do the Blackguard and Rogue sneak attacks stack, therefore being +9d6 sneak attack?

BG 16 is a must otherwise for the BG summon. If you're not gonna go 16 then I'd go heavy on rogue.

1 hander almost invariably trumps 2-hander. The extra AC is just too juicy. That way you can also free up feats by avoiding the expertise line. This build needs IKD with all those sneaks. Yes BG and Rog sneaks stack.

Spot is always useful.

Consider dropping dex to 8. Im assuming you'll be wearing Full plate.

Maybe go 4fighter/10rogue/16BG? Trade out Imp expertise and Imp power attack for Imp Knockdown? Well, I'll be losing a fighter bonus feat, so might just end up with Knockdown. Needs another round in the good ol' test module methinks.

Can a dwarf wield a Great Axe and if so, I assume that would mean they can Monkey Grip it too, right?

Also, is the WM 16/F 12/R 2 build as good as WM 7/ F 20/ R 3 build?

Thanks,

Baden

Yes a Dwarf can use (Wield) a Great Axe, nothing below Dwarf height can though. Also the more Weapon Master Classes tends to be the better so I have seen. Because you get the Ki Strike so much more a day. But you also get Bonus feats. With that, Fighter is best for Weapon Specialization and Epic Weapon Specialization.

The 20/7/3 gets either more feats to spend on saves, or a higher Devcrit DC due to Great STRIII being feasible, but the WM16 gets higher AB because of the +1 at WM13 and 16.

The twohandering WM is surprisingly good in PvP because the other character has so little time to kill you. It's one of the very few things that can actually expect to beat the Epic Dodger WM in a fair duel. Of course if an Epic Dodger WM is fighting fairly in real, non-arena PvP, then their player badly needs an education and a role model.

Buffertanks with all the lights and music running ought to overwhelm them, but again, a sneaky WM that has allowed said magical meleer to get to that point or has not cornersneaked away and trapnested the entire area is in need of an education and a role model.

A high-Sneak, high-Spot Shadowdancer that is staying far from corners ought to win.

I wouldn't bet the house on either of the above, or the twohandering WM, though. It's a superb build type.

Build it Opustus, and send it to my inbox. Bonus points if it's a dwarf.

Also Beshaba - pure bard is best right? Or Bard/BG?

I'd also like to do something with a cyricist, but don't want him beaten by a strong gust...

Pure bard is probably best, but Bard/BG is fun, too. It was tewwibly powerful before the Pally/BG nerf, but now it's only really doable as a Bard20/BG6/Fighter4, because you need the extra feats to cover all the important bits. It'd go Bard12/BG6/Fighter2 pre-epic. Feats are PA, Cleave, Curse, Extend, Maximise, Divine Shield, Divine Might, WF, Blindfight, Imp crit (if human). Epic'd be EWF, EWS, Armorskin, Lasting Winspiration. It's still a really strong build, and the duration of Divine Shield and Might is still 9 rounds with base CHA 16, only the damage and AC bonus are capped at 6.

And dude, I just made a reiteration of the Cleric/Rogue Ucey posted on page 152. He's a Beshaban, too. Hang out, maybe? <3 Wouldn't mind having a bard around either and could lecture you the little tricks you need to know to be a decent buffstick.

Pure bard isn't as good as 25 bard actually; because you need to cram in 50 skill points of preform AND take epic skill focus:Preform.
The amount of gain from 30 bard vs 25 doesn't outweigh the loss of THAT many mythal slots

Does anyone play a ranger? I have an idea for a first time char and all the rp ideas lean towards her being a ranger above anything else. I know the theory behind multi classing as ranger/fighter but is the class viable on this server... though not new to the game it would be a return after many years away and certainly new to this server!

The big news with Ranger is that the animal companions on Amia are excellent now, and Blade Thirst, past Ranger21, give +5 enhancement and Keen regardless of weapon type, or when cast on ranged weapons gives +5AB, +5 Mighty.

The animals last two key points are at Ranger/Druid level 25 and 30. The short version is you'll get more bang for your buck with UMD/Tumble than the 30th level pet, fearsome as they are. Ranger25/Ftr4/Rogue1 is the off-the-peg version because it gets Epic Weapon Spec.

Ranger28/Rogue2, Ranger26/Ftr2/Rogue2, Ranger25/MasterScout5, all pretty shiny alternatives if you want to go off the beaten path, but there's a reason that path is beat.

I'd go 25 Ranger/4 Fighter/1 Rogue, the lack of EWS and UMD/Tumbledump greatly outweights the extra regen, few AC and AB and enhancement level a 30 Ranger has. Level 30 Animals are best suited to droods.

Out of curiosity, is there a way to build a proper str. based monk without having it suffering from low AC?

Yes. It's relatively easy to build a Strength based monk into AC equal to the standard Tumble Tanks.

+17 AC is the maximum AC a tumble tank can have with 1 Dex Mod/8 Fullplate/3 Tower/+5 Shield AC. (Armor AC values apply to both so I don't use them in the comparison)

A Monk can achieve that score from 8 Dex/12 Wisdom buffed out to maximum in both scores combined with the AC bonus given for 25 Monk levels.

I was considering a ranger build myself and came up with Ranger 23/ Fighter 4/ Bard 3. Is there really a large advantage to going to 25 lvls in ranger vs the 23. I want to roll the bard lvls in as I progress to take advantage of the skill dumps as I lvl. I will still end up with weapon spec and epic weapon spec. I had considered taking rogue instead of bard for the sneak and skill pts but I can get spellcraft as a skill with bard which lets me max it out though I'm not sure if the bonus goes past +5 so 25pts instead of 30? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't need to dump skills as you level if you are party leveling. 25/4/1 is just that much better (at the moment and with regards to pets).

Pets in general are very powerful (albeit VERY squishy) but with some babysitting they are useful. My ranger uses the badger because of its extra damage reduction ( And it's the only pet that actually SURVIVES!)

Thanks, i'm still pretty much on the fence with it all right now and just trying to work my head round a usable build. I know rp is king in most cases but at the end of the day having a usable character helps to enjoy the game that little better outside of rping.

Anyone got any ideas with regards to Stump builds?

I was thinking about 7Monk/10Fighter/13WM (4/6/10 pre-epic) for shits and giggles.

If you're not going to be going kama+staff double WM for masochistic amusement(might not have enough feats anyway), I think I'd leave WM at 7 and scoop up more Monk tricks.

I always had Monk21/Ftr4/WM5 with greatsword penciled onto the To Do List, but the quarterstaff tweak is so ferocious it's daft to ignore it, but that needs WM7.

Monk4/Ftr9/WM7 into Monk11/Ftr12/WM7, maybe?

Meh, looking at it, there doesn't seem to be room for decent Monk without losing BAB.

I had a blast with Adam, Rogue16/Ftr8/Monk6 Devcrit, but I'd like to see the Sneaked up version for comparison. Rogue21/Ftr6/Monk3, maybe?

I was always fond of monk 12/ fighter 11/ wm 7. You lose 2 bab and no umd, but man it is fun.

Rogue19/DwD5/SD6, hurkhurk.

And to continue with my current fad for a dusting of Cleric on 3/4 classes: Monk20/Ftr5/Cleric5 with Strength Domain and bonus Clerk 4 items to extend Divine Power.

Since it seems unlikely to get decent WIS planted into that combination, I'd just go for max BAB madness Monk6/Fighter8/WM16. It's by far the easiest route and bags all 7/10/13 does, minus that silly Will Times Two for +1 more AB. Totally worth it!

And Uce, yurp, 21/6/3 is obviously the best sneak version of the sod.

Remember how I asked about the str. based monk? (like three posts above)

I'd like to spice it up a little. I am toying the with idea of dwarven fist brawler in heavy armor.

How could one build a mass of steel and muscles whilst using monk combined with heavy armor?

You lose the Monk attack progression as soon as you put armor on. You also lose your Wisdom AC bonus.

You'd be better off just making your robes LOOK like heavy armor...

Monk16 gives the most punch, but since almost everything else from those levels would be wasted on an armoured brawler, I guess the most effective way to go would be to infuse a divine class and take 1-6 Monk for the Flurry of Blows, increased fist damage and KD/IKD, if taken till 6.

I would definitely make a CHA-based Paladin29/Monk1 smiter for shits and giggles, since the whole concept is utterly silly in the first place.

Oh, and do quarterstaff and shruikens follow the UBAB progression, same as kama and unarmed?

EDIT: Don't listen to Noct'uul. He's a twat.
