You can't posses an animal companion. That only works for familiars.

I'm not 100% sure, you'll have to give it a try to see, but I think if you use the chat commands, you can tell your summon to hide. I'll try to test it myself in a minute.

Word around the campfire is that the base 7 halfplate with 0%ASF was removed by mistake and returning it is on the To Do List, but removed it still is, last I looked.

In the mean time there's at least three zero fail chainshirts, a leathers or two and possibly a breastplate.

Towershields don't have zero fail, but there are two Large shields with it and at least one buckler, but I don't see the point of that.

Might be a daft question, and I tried searching for a relevant answer but couldn't find much, but...

Is there a different appearance for a kama you can have? One that's more of a ... don't know how best to describe it other than "punching dagger" style thing? A Katar style appearance (thinking Voldo from the Soul Calibur franchise)?

Cheers for any answer. If there is, from what I can gather it's a request appearance only or some such?

Yes, but they do not do well with ACP.

Ah, genius. To be honest, I'm not that fussed over the ACP thing, never use it that much anyway.

Are there are Kama's with that appearance in the game, or is it a request appearance for them does anybody know?

Cheers

I'm sure there aren't any kamas automatically with that appearance, but I don't know if its request-only or if you can craft it ingame.

On my recent Monk slasher, I couldn't get the crafting menu to so much as start changing the appearance of kamae.

For some time I assumed it was because I was in one of the popular areas where it's disabled because it gives you the same message (can't craft at this time or somesuch), and tried in various increasingly obscure places to no avail. I think I was in the sewers or something before I twigged and tried the other crafting options, which worked perfectly. I felt silly, not least because poor Nguza was up to his ankles in shit for no reason.

tl:dr - You can't craft in game.

Does the Spell Mantle line of spells also absorb AoE spells like Fireballs or Wail of the Banshee?

It does. There are some spells that ignore mantle however. I think it wasn't intended, but that's how it is.

What is the concentration check for casting a spell while having a summoned BBoD? The log doesn't show it, but I thought I'd ask.

I'm wondering if vampire characters are even slightly possible? i.e. undead characters in general are possible, hence Lucius Blackwater. But would it ever be allowed to make a vampire character, who simply had to RP not being in the sun (or RP-dying if they do get in the sun), and maybe had a custom feat to represent vampire bites, and change their race to "vampire" so that sunburst will autokill on failed save? It sounds like a fun special request character to hang around Tarkuul.

Totally going to piggyback on your question...

What's the concentration check for casting a spell while having a Bigby spell in effect?

Vampires are exceedingly hard to get approved because they are exceptionally difficult to play in the Forgotten Realms. Lucious is a special case and the result of years and years of dedicated RPing and countless rituals to achieve his result. Also, IIRC if a vampire is in the sunlight it's dead forever.

Concentration stuff

From the wiki: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Concentration
  • Concentration checks are also made when casting a spell in defensive casting mode. The difficulty class for this type of check is 15 + spell level. The combat casting feat eliminates the -4 penalty if casting defensively within four meters of an enemy.
So looks like it's 15+spell level (pretty sure Amia hasn't changed that, I could be wrong!).

You're wrong, Naivy. The concentration check for bigbys is the same as the black blade one uses, whatever that is (I think, anyway)

It is the same. And the skill 'concentration' has nothing to do with it.

The short answer to your question is "no." Historically the team has not supported undead characters, but very specifically vampires. Regardless, even if such a request was processed and approved it would required massive amounts of scripting to allow for all the drawbacks and weakness ascribed to vampirism -- which, of course, would not be possible under the current scripting hold.

Does anyone know how I can reduce the amount of lag I have? Ever since my new computer, nwn lags for me for about 1-3 rounds of combat in every battle. It's mainly only during combat, so maybe that gives a clue to what I can try to fix (?).

It may also be stupid Windows 8 and compatability issues, but I don't want to tinker with it without knowing what I'm doing (it was a pain to get nwn working on this computer).

Shadowscape would be Analog.
Underport I don't know. If its a business interaction (Buying slaves, weapons etc. etc.) with a merchant there any DM should be able to assist you though.

I just had a thought, and it'd be better to ask right away, rather than research it any further - is it possible to get a familiar reskinned into, say, a human male? Sort of a "side-kick" kind of thing; i'm just curious if it's something that could be pulled off and approved, considering there are differences in the nature of a familiar, and a friend.

PS. I know Bottled Companion is there too, but the "Posess familiar" button, as well as some basic ability to fight is very much what i'm after.

Long answer: To begin with, humans can't be familiars. Familiar isn't just a mechanical designation, it is an actual thing in the system with rules and all. They're not sidekicks, they're magically bound servitors. It's generally restricted by type and ECL, and of the accepted creature type human isn't one of them.

Even if it was possible, the human familiar wouldn't have a customiseable appearance or any equipment - it would be limited to the stock human male found in the system.

I know these things, i'm just looking for a precedent, or a work around.

I don't want a human -familiar- per se. Technically, what i'm after is a Bottled Companion with Familiar traits - controllable character other than my PC, with the ability to use transitions, and Bottled Companion cannot be controlled like that (it can only be issued voice commands, and "/s f_voice" commands which is an inconvenience).

There's no technical reason it couldn't be done, if you're happy with one of the non-dynamic human models. I don't see why it would be denied as long as the abilities work. Like using the panther for a human rogue type. Even if we restricted ourself to PnP rules (which we don't), it could reasonably represnt a cohort. Then again, I don't see the reason for a lot of things, so you might be unpleasantly surprised!

I don't know if there's precedent for a familiar to be reskinned as a human, but there's plenty of precedent for familiars reskinned as something other than a familiar (and, indeed, role-playing familiars as non-familiars).

I know of one example where the familiar was turned into a generic summon, and the actual familiar became a side-kick as an intelligent humanoid.

1382. 2015 will be 1383. I don't know why nobody's gotten around to deleting that line, or the entire post it's in - it's like 10 years old and made obsolete by the Grand History.

Yeah. The most recent answer in Lore:
viewtopic.php?f=103&t=76619

But basically: the Cordor Revolution happened in 1376/2008 (17.5. to be precise, and I seem to recall that date in IC documents as well). That's the solid starting point after which the server-wide history has followed more or less a 1:1 timescale.

1376=2008
1377=2009
1378=2010
1379=2011
1380=2012
1381=2013
1382=2014
Etc.

The wrong year has been thrown about quite a bit, too, so you've probably read it from a credible source. Without going into details (been posted somewhere before), a year was forgotten during some timeline update and so an erroneous year was added to some dates. But DMs have now confirmed several times that (insofar as there's anything solid about the timeline!) the original dating from 1376/2008 stands.

Free is good. At low levels when you have only 1 attack, dirty fighting is great. But limiting yourself to 1 attack for an avg of 2.5 dmg is awful math past that point.

As a designer, it's worthwhile to stick on low-level gear as a bonus feat (pre-level 6 or so) for free lowbie damage, but after that point it's mathematically stupid to use once you get 2 attacks.

And circle kick is easily worse than dirty fighting. You can easily ignore you wasting a feat by not using it. Circle kick cripples you for life.
