I was wondering where to post this, the Improving Amia - forum or here as I would like there to be discussion first from the community concerning this.
Basically I am wondering that would it be good to have DCs shareable between players. Say one player could give out 1 or 2 DCs per reset? If there are concerns about this going from under control.
As it is hard to have DMs present everytime when there is RP going between peeps and some of us also want to help out others in gaining DCs for their requests for rebuilds and such which they might need.
What do you guys think?

On the one hand, I can see this being a very good idea to be put into place. It's a good way for a player to reward a fellow player for their roleplay when there are no DMs available to watch them.
However, I can also envision people abusing this ability, whether it is to move their DC's over to friend permanently, or to move DC's between their multiple accounts (as some players have more than one~).
It is one of those improvements that, if used responsibly by other players, will be a beautiful addition to the server. The question I find raised is; Do we trust the player-base to use it responsibly?

You can already freely have your DC's moved to another of your own accounts.

Frankly I'd have done this all the time if I were allowed to back when the Living Guard was still a thing. I used to have more DCs than I knew what to do with before my impulse control went out the window.

A more elegant way to do this would simply be to allow players to pay for 100% of the DC cost of things, because, in my estimation, that's what this would end up being: The DC rich bankroll their friends.
(read that line as neutrally as possible, please!)

Easier, One other point to put into perspective is that if a "Teacher" took a "Student" IC to work on a project or maybe an expedition, Following that experience the "teacher" could award the "student" a DC to reflect their experience. TLDR: Donating DC's from a higher to a lower level to enrich expedition and character progression would be cool to be considered.

Tormak has a fair point admittedly. It just honestly sounds like a pipe dream for faction leaders I think. I know I'd pay half costs of my guards requests back in the day, and would probably have paid full costs if allowed.
Especially for rebuilds, I dislike grinding.

One point regarding DC transfers - you can then use them to level your PCs. If you have a buddy who gives you 30 DCs so you can get your new character up to epic, that's a big boon (for those who just prefer that).
Now, that can be either good or bad, depending on your stance. But then the question arises... Does it really matter if people are giving their DCs away? It's not as if they're being duplicated or something.
Genuine curiosity! I personally don't think it matters, but I could be missing something crucial?

Tormak's solution addresses people that have DC-rich mentors. (It does so at 0 scripting cost, though.)
The occasional 1 DC I'd want to give out wouldn't really be replaced by me donating 1 DC to some request half a year later because I might not notice the request or have forgotten about the excellent RP or what not.
Regards Ts

We could be able to give DCs ingame to each other and also pay 100% of another's DC request?

Since returning to the game I have received 1 DC. I have had a number of really amazing scenes with character growth between multiple characters. Yet when I received a DC I was falling asleep. I was in a fun scene, my character interacting, but it was late I was tired, and was dozing at my keyboard (and finally ICly excused myself).
As DCs are tied to certain requests I believe it would just be better to allow players to hand out DCs for good RP. Players who are not a part of DM scenes, or log on when DMs are on and free could then earn DCs for spends just as quickly as those who do. So yes I say players should be able to share DCs, but I also believe there should be no need to do so as the system should be changed so everyone is able to earn some.

I do not say it's a bad idea, but it would diminish the exclusivity of the DC big time. I know the system as it is now may be unfair and may seem flawed, but giving so much freedom like this to the community seems like a bad idea, easily abused (aka. join our faction and get the goodies).
In a perfect world I'd be all yes. In the world we are living in I'm no.

Great idea. I think it can be easily controlled without abusing the system by limiting the number of DCs what a player can give out per reset.

I'd rather get rid of the DC system than see it used this way, personally. But I care very little about the issue, so my opinion is said without too much care one way or another.

This was brought up last February, actually. The consensus generally was that the system was thought to be easily abusable. Which I can see as a very real possibility, but in reality, I don't think it's any worse than DMs giving DCs then they're player side or in general. Favoritism happens. Period. And in the end, it doesn't really matter where you get your DCs from. If you have a crapton laying around (which I have in the recent past) and nothing to do with it or any want to do with it, why not give them to someone who would want them? My stance on this idea remains the same as it does originally; Yes, I fully endorse this.

Well... getting DC's is only part of the battle really. As Raua stated, having a crapton of them does nothing for you. You STILL have to apply them somehow. If you use them to level, well, ehh... sure, you can level faster. Hoever, if you use them for requests, whether your own or a friend, they STILL have to be approved by DM's, so, the "abuse" of this system is pretty much mitigated right there. Sure, we might see more requests as a result, but, the team still decides what flies and what dies.
I've seen a TON of good rp go unrewarded and some really crappy rp get DC's. Just because 5 faction members shoot the shit together is not a reason to DC them, unless non-faction social rp is DC'able too. Too many times this happens. I used to get 3-5 DC's a week, for doing very little, now? I've gotten 2 DC's in 4 months! Yet... my characters (IMHO) aren't doing any less legitimate RP, in some cases, more than when I was involved with a faction! The DC system is pretty broken as it is, I'm all for players being able to give a DC to another for good rp, however, limit it to 1x per week (if that's even possible), to help with abuses and keep the DM's involved too, so more can be given out.

If I want to donate a DC, I will do it when I see a good, solid request. I really see little point in doing it otherwise.

Could the DC Dream Coin wand be set to actually transfer a DC from one player to another? Maybe one half of a coin (if desired) with same rule that you cannot use it twice in a row on the same account.

If I found out that someone joined my faction just to get the DC I would probably exclude that kind of a player from my faction. The Dream Coins are not given, they are earned.
Not to mention that allowing this would require a new set of rules to prevent abuse and OOC trade of DC.

I think it would be a great thing for the community if we could give our DCs to other players in game. There are a lot of players out there who add a lot of value to the server and contribute to the overall story in more subtle ways than are commonly seen by DM. DMs aren't the only ones affected by great role play and I don't think they should be the only ones with the power to reward it.
The top 5% of players get 90% of the DCs on this server. It's time for us to tell the All Stars that they can't have it all. Vote for Bernie Sanduhs.
Also-- Let me give my DCs to people. Pretty please.

I have a lot of sympathy for the arguments above re: the idea that allowing players to give away their DCs would cheapen the DC system, because I used to believe the same thing. But I've since changed my mind: the DC system will always primarily be the domain of the DMs, because even if all my DCs were gifted to me from other players, I still need to go to the DMs in the Requests forum to do anything interesting with them. Right now, we have two separate bottleneck points in the server's DC economy: one when you have to luck into the attention and appreciation of a DM to earn any DCs, and one when you have to go through the DC request process to spend them, which can be quite formidable. Removing the first choke point but not the second would not remove the DM oversight, it would just make the system a lot more fluid.

Not entirely related to this topic but this discussion sparked my curiosity. Is there a way to assess the total amount of DC's flowing out there? Perhaps filtering out players who hav'nt been active the last year. I'm curious how 'rich' the playerbase as a mass is.
