When I started here, a few months ago, it was regular to see just 10 people on total at prime-time. Perhaps 20 total if some weekly event was going on. I really felt like like exploring the world was wandering a ruin, sometimes a DM would see my low-level character stumble into a long-ignored nook or cave or house, and fill me in on what used to happen there. This was, for a while, my primary drive to playing the game; see the sights, hear the stories before they were gone. I logged on at one point and was one of three people on the whole server, at 8 pm on a weekday night. It felt like it was dying, that any day the plug would be pulled and less than a dozen people would be momentarily saddened. There were times the only people on were the 4 or 5 people in my leveling group, and most of the time they would hop into party chat and tell old stories. I would be ferried from ruin to ruin, told of battles fought almost a decade ago, escorted to places like Wyrmhold and the Shrine of Screams, cities now underwater, craters where towns once stood, history recanted by those who chose to remain. When I started, I felt like the world was on the cusp of oblivion. It was staving off entropy.

What a change since then. This place is alive now. It's not abnormal to have 70-80 total people connected and playing on A or B, and it shows. Stuff is happening everywhere. Plots are all over. The world is changing week by week. Longstanding bugs are getting fixed regularly. Content is being added. People are everywhere and everyone is willing to stop and chat. The old and forgotten places live again with new activity, no longer ignored. Hidden nooks are discovered again and put to work. It's wonderful.

I had a sort of epiphany when I was playing tonight and stood in the cave of the old "Four Horsemen." A few months ago I would log on to see what once was, to stand at old gates long since locked and hear the story of why and when, meandering from history to history and hearing echos from the past; playing a game from 2002 that still had 10 odd people playing because I wanted to see what it was before it was gone.

Now I realize I'm logging on because I want to see whats happening now, and need to know what happens next. The world is changing week-by-week and I'm glad to be a part of it.

You guys are all great. Keep on keeping on.

Aw, Commie. Not even one ant alarm in there. 8)

On a more serious note, this is the kind of thread that is good to see. Good for people to comment on. I wish it got half as much traffic as the ones where people had grievances to air and bones to pick. It has been pretty great to see the activity rising, and I think it's due to a lot of positive factors. The Team shouldering more responsibility across the board (with a few standouts), the players rising up, committing to story lines and embracing conflict again. I do wonder if there are a few more things that should be done in order to maintain stability and promote resilience, though. A few more things that might help me jump back into my upped activity personally, if there were some sure and transparent communication that was maintained about it.

Things like:Finish filling the Team up with active members.
Those who cannot be active stepping down.
Players culling or recruiting for factions, activity in mind as well.
Some feedback on why people are back, why they're active, what they're interested in most.

Etc. etc.

So why are some of you people coming back?

What are you most interested in seeing more of, Commie?

One thing I'm really liking is the more player driven content. The election was super fun and it was very hands off from a dm intervention perspective. As was the horn madness and our little fleet of foot monk friend. Thats what I really like about this place because instead of bouncing off one guy (the dm) you got thirty odd people doing their own shit. It's grand. I love big events that are hands off but drive player "conflict."
