Okay, I just downloaded the portrait pack and all of them in character creation appear as white. Any reason for this and how to fix it?

Thanks.

There's a good patch of them which are done'incorrectly' so to speak leaving white spaces. Sadly not much we can do other than filter through them the hard way.

*all* of them are *all* white squares? Or do you mean some have white bars, like, say, you might see the blakc bars on a widescreen TV?

No, all of them are. I have downloaded

Amia Portrait Pack 1.0. Final version on 04/07/06
Amia Portrait Pack, version 2.0. Last updated on 09/08/07
Another portrait pack compiled by belgianbonzai
New! Download a portrait pack, compiled by belgianbonzai

And every single portrait appears as a white square.

So can anyone tell me what to do to make them work?

First, tell us how you installed them.

:)

I don't think so. I believe that's exactly where you should put them.

This happens to a couple of my portraits that I downloaded, but all the ones from the Amia pack worked perfectly for me

Well, i think i've checked everything; File directory, File type. They appear in game to choose from, but theyre all white. No black lines etc either, just white. I guess mine just doesnt like new things :) Wonder how it will react to a new video card...

If its every single portrait you have downloaded, then no idea.

However, if it's all from one author, then it's likely they forgot to take layers off the portraits when creating them in Gimp or something. Which means its the authors fault. Send them a PM, or get a different portrait pack. May I suggest the Newcastle Portrait Pack, or the Amia Portrait Pack.

The pictures could also be corrupted, espically if your using a download accelerator or had to restart a portrait when it failed.

*laughs a little* the four I downloaded are the ones for Amia, from http://www.science.uva.nl/research/amst ... adownloads.

Question : Did you create the /portraits folder, or was it already there?

Try cleaning up your overrides and portraits folder.

Rename them both then make a new portrait folder. Dump all the portraits there and check in-game.

Thank you Ticket, I cleared my overide folder and they now work. I just need to find out which one conflicted with them.

No problem, just bring them back one by one and see which one conflicts.
My wild stab at a guess would be if you had an outdated/buggy npc portrait unlocker.

Good job ticket :)

I love learning new stuff, especially about a game I play...

So does the overrides folder cache information on the \portraits folder?

:? I have no clue whatsoever.

I just had once a similar problem occur to me when I installed something. It didn't turn all my custom portraits to white, but a number of them did. Turned out it was one of those npc portrait unlockers.

After a bit of googling...

Also, there has been a bug report that creates 'blank white portraits' in the portrait selection screen. These do not interfere with the game and I think they are caused if this tries to overwrite any custom portraits.

Here's a newer version (and better) for those interested:

So in closing, yes it is most probably caused by an old npc portrait unlocker. :D

Surprisingly, by adding all my overides one by one and testing, all the portraits work now....With no removal of any overides....

Hmm, maybe just a few bits of code conflicted is all.

Now that you have mentioned it, I think I started having those white portraits when I messed renamed my override/portrait folder and back again for reasons I've already forgotten... Whatever it is, it's a mystery.

Well, problem half-solved. We now know they are linked in some way. 8)
