*the letter is short and to the point*
Greetings,
It may well be that I have found one of the places where the big mole creature keeps on disappearing. With a little luck it might be possible to track it down.
I am in contact with the Archdruidess' as well as it will undoubtedly concern both the Dale and Oakmist.
Yours in friendship,
Belladonna

Willow decides to sign it. As she puts ink to paper on the third slot, her eyes drift up a line or two and she shakes her head a bit and decides not to sign in after all.

A large poster is posted up, written in green ink
To citizens of the Dale who want the murderer, slaver, and nuisance that is Flur, AKA The Binder, banned from our beloved town. He has attacked many Hin and continues to attack Hin. He has attacked guests of the Dale and passers by on Dale lands many times as well. If you want to see this Kobold banned from town, I ask you to sign this petition so that we make our voices heard!
A long row of line follow where people are to sign. It bares Willow's name in the first slot.

She takes out her golden quill that never seems to need ink and signs her name.

*Sigrin stops by the Dale, with medicines as usual. His cheerful smile fades as he looks to the petition. Wandering over, he reads the missive somberly.*
Oh dear... A dark soul that harms the innocent? Is it mindless, or is this poor soul so lost that it feels nothing in causing pain....
*Sigrin reaches back, and undoes the red ribbon that seals his katana to it's scabbard just in case, and laces it between his fingers and around his right hand.*
Those answers I must know....

This is mostly for the players of the Harlequins of Brandobaris, but it extends to all friends of the HoBs and Johanna.
If you happen to wander by the location of "the histrionic harlequin haunt" (or "The H" as I will refer to it as it gets a bit tiresome to type it out fully all the time) and there are no tents and benches etc. please place down anything you can spare to make it look like there is still something going on at the location. After all, if I am not on, it doesn't mean that all the gear has been packed up.
I'm counting on you to help keep up the appearance of busy activity and constant development, but sadly sometimes I have to sleep or go out for RL activities.
Thanks to everyone that's come by so far and been part of it. And to those who haven't yet, don't be afraid to pop in to say hello too. It is a community project, and communities are nothing without a welcoming smile.

So I realize I'm a month late in responding to this, but I just now noticed your last post Twisted Cricket. Anyway...
Are you sure it wasn't mentioned anywhere? I copied *everything* on hin from every official FR sourcebook out there. If it treally isn't in there, then where did you read this information about the silent ghostwise? I want to make sure it's official before anything goes in there.

Even though it would have looked a mess before, there were loads of boxes and crates and tents and tables and panels to be used. Most of that would have seemed immaculately ordered compared to the mess it became due to hellball damage, dragon breath and all sorts of other acid based spray and shrapnel.

I've noticed that the Bendir Dale sub-forum has been very quiet lately so I'm hoping to bring a bit of noise to it. Every week I will allocate a topic that is related to the denizens of "The Dale".
Not everything will be about halflings, as they are not the only race that resides there, however most of it will be about halflings due to the fact that the vast majority of halfling characters of Amia would congregate at Bendir Dale and the vast majority of Bendir Dale folk are halfling.
The point of these discussions will be to highlight your own personal play and allow you, the player, to decide whether or not the information is relevant to your character or not. But overall, I'm hoping that the basics and even more advanced hin lore will seep through into play via osmosis if nothing else.
Lively debate will help us all learn, even if we disagree, about life as a shorty living in Bendir Dale. Of course, the relevance in Amia generally of each toping is up for debate.
To get things started I will begin with this weeks discussion: Communication.
This one is about Halflings, mostly, and they way they talk.
The Big Book of Small Folk wrote: Most halfling words are short, only one or two syllables; most seemingly long words are in fact compounds. As with Elven, subjects are often left out of sentences, particularly when they are pronouns. Gestures can add another dimension of meaning to the words and sometimes enable halflings to communicate about multiple topics at once.
How do you think that this style of chatter would affect their "common"? Discuss.

To get the ball rolling I'll start with the first things that pop into my head and see how this stream of conscious gets me.
The way I see their way of talking would be very telegraphic and might sound a bit "dim" or "uncultured" to someone speaking common tongue receiving a direct translation.
"Pass cheese" or "Want ride cart?" might seem perfectly acceptable phrases for a halfling though seeming a little vague, compared to a more legthy "Pass the cheese to me please." or "Do you care for a cart-ride?" respectively.
Usually in these cases the subject "you" would have previously established and unnecessary for the communication of the sentence, request or statement.
If a halfling grew up in a city or travelled a lot with "tall folk"or from town to town they might have learned "hin" and "common" simultaneously ultimately making them at least bilingual and would seldom have trouble switching between languages in an instant.
Halflings that are more close, namely Luiren halflings and "Ghostwise" halflings are much more likely to find their own grammar rules slipping in to their common speech. Though, Ghostwise halflings are even more complecated than that.

Willow saw as he shifted and flew away. She watches him go and decides not to stop him, follow him, or send anyone/anything to watch him. She thinks to herself;
He'll be alright... He just needs time away.
She nods to herself and walks toward the Dale.

Surely someone has something to add/argue.
Maybe I'll choose a more controversial topic next time
But keeping with this one I shall continue with some questions I'd like people's thoughts on.
How does your halfling character's social class get shown through communication?
What other forms of communication does your character use to convey instructions or statements? (easy for Ghostwise characters here)
What major events have influenced the way your character communicates? (i.e. like Ukre's impeded speech)
Is halfling writing impaired by the lack of gestures?
What are your opinions on these? Say what's on your mind or ask more questions on the topic of "Halfling communication".
