Do Rashemi belong to the same ethnic human group as the Mulans from Thay/Unther/Mulhorand, i.e. is it lore kosher to create a Rashemi with the mulan subrace?

They share some ancient history but I couldn't find much apart that.

There may be some Mulan in Rashemen, but they're rare. I doubt they're very welcome. It's mostly the other way around: Rashemi make up a bulk of Thay's population, especially in the lower classes but sometimes as wizards too.

Mulan generally live in Mulhorand, Unther, Thay and Chessenta.

On the other hand, Rashemi live in Rashemen, Aglarond, Thay, Thesk. Also Damara, Great Dale, Impiltur, Hordelands, Mulhorand, Narfell, Wizard's Reach, Semphar and Unther as minorities. Rashemi are heirs of the victors of the Orcgate Wars and the Raumathar empire which rivalled Mulhorand.

Dusky skin, dark eyes, thick black hair, stout and about five and a half feet tall. Bushy black bears (not the women, I suppose!). Women wear their black hair long and braided.

How far is the Testing Range from Howness? Within Visual Range just off the coast, or miles off - Ferry just goes to Howness 'cause thats nearest?

I was wondering what a good source to look up info on Ao would be. I'm trying to help the player-maintained wiki (particularly adding more info to the deity sections to help players RP their chosen deities more efficiently) and I can't seem to find any info on Ao in Faiths and Pantheons, Complete Divine, or Deities and Demigods (3.5 ed).

Info about Ao in particular is likely kept extremely vague and glib for a reason. He's the sole creator of the "universe" of FR. You can't go explaining that guy without unravelling a lot of the mystery of the setting as well as stepping on the toes of what DMs might want to add in later.

I can recall off the top of my head Ao has ministers, but never ever ever any "clerics". He doesn't grant spells, he doesn't answer prayers or acknowledges those who pray to him in the least, and purposefully erases information about himself throughout the universe over time. He simply doesn't want to be known or worshiped. Any PC that follows him or wants to RP a minister of Ao may be a good philosopher "meditating on his divine apathy" or somesuch I recall reading somewhere, but they ICly know as much(likely a lot less) as we know OoC about him: near diddly squat.

The Evergod/"Light" made the "multiverse" not Ao. Ao is just the keeper of the "universe" of Abeir Toril and the Forgotten Realms and it's secant palnes and areas. IIRC anyways.

Ao isn't really a guy you get concrete source on. I think that's part of his gimmick. :D

Hehe it makes sense. Was just browsing the deities on the wiki and seeing if there was any room for improvement and his looked to be little more than a stub article.

^^

I'll keep perusing amongst the other deities then I guess. :) Thanks for the answer(s).

There's an entry on him in Faiths & Avatars. Better not read it, though. All you need to know is "Some guy you know nothing about."

I'd rather retcon his existance, but alas.

Back to the blackgaurd discussion. I have a LE duergar that worships Laduguer. I would like to know what type of (I am assuming devil) devil would I be making my deal with? Oh yeah I have already taken some bg levels what would be an appropiate bg lvl to start asking for dm help, albeit he has worshiped laduguer his whole life.

Laduguer's home plane is hammergrim I have no ideal what kind of devils live there.

Since Hammergrim is mildly law- and evil-aligned, probably any devil would do.

You can make a pact with a devil, demon or any evil outsider you like. Just because your character is lawful and your characters god is lawful doesn't mean you need to make a pact with a lawful being ;).

The character must have made peaceful contact with an evil outsider who was summoned by him or someone else.

What deity would have demon servants that accepts LE blackguards?

The one step rule is a good guideline.

A BG doesn't need to be deity related and a demon cares not about alignments.

What motive does a demon prince have to give up a chunk of his power to a mortal that's not going to further his agenda in some way?

Demons are chaotic yes, but that doesn't mean they aren't self serving. Divine powers don't get tossed around like party favors. Orcus needs an actual compelling reason to burn souls off his plane to fuel the blackguard powers of an LE servant of Laduguer.

This is something I've wondered as well. With the mixed races, at least, like genasi and planetouched.

I've heard they have the same life expectancy and progression as their "normal" kin, and I've also hear it they live significantly longer. Or perhaps that was half- creatures. Either way, a DM opinion on this would be appreciated.

On a related note, can anyone tell me how heredity genasi happen? I'd been told before that genasi have some true elemental ancestor in their distant family like Tiefling and Aasimar have some celestial or fiendish in theres. But True Elementals are lacking of gender, I heard as well... so... wouldn't that make a half-elemental impossible, and therefore any descendants of such?

Who said it had to be a demon prince?

A peaceful encounter with any evil outsider. That means it can run the ranks from lowly to high, I beleive.

Besides, IIRC, a lot of these pacts deal with the BG's soul. As in the demon/devil will get the soul upon the BG's final rest. Souls are pretty much used as currency in the Abyss and Hells... if not food, I believe. So in any case, the demon/devil would probably care less about what the BG does with the power in his mortal life, because at the end of the figurative day, he still walks back to his fiery home with the one thing he wanted out of the deal: a soul.

Genies. Dragons can, also, oddly enough, produce Genasi far down the line due to their elemental traits.

Also planewalking.

Indeed. And BG has nothing to do with your god. Gods give you your powers as a Cleric, Druid, Ranger, Paladin, etc. Your powers as a BG come from the evil outsider, not a god.

Ask yourself where this divine power you wield as a blackguard is coming from.

It has two possible sources: a deity, or one of the lower planes (as granted by that plane's ruler). Yes, you can tap it by negotiating with a lesser fiend, but do you really think a quasit has any divine powers to give? No, he is acting on behalf of his boss (or his boss's boss's boss's boss).

Divine power comes from souls. Why would the boss, whose power comes from the souls of mortals like you, give away that power just for one more soul? You need to work for him in some way, or at the least, he has to think you'll be worth his while to empower.

Gunz, you are incorrect in assuming that's the source. There are a lot of canon references to BG powers coming from a deity: Scyllua Darkhope's entry in FRCS immediately jumps to mind.

I believe the matter at hand in that regards comes from a simple, unknown factor.

How much energy does it take to empower a Blackguard, compared to the energy granted by a single soul?

If it takes less effort to empower a blackguard (which I reason is the case, given the relatively low-tier effects given to a blackguard. No epic feats, spells, extremely powerful boons, etc) than a soul grants - a demon will be happy just to have that individual. He makes profit. If the subject increases his influence in the process - that's more profit, but he's hardly losing anything if they don't.

The opposite applies, of course, if it takes more to empower a blackguard than is gained by the consumption of his soul; in which case profit only comes forward in the blackguard is serving their ends to a point wherein the difference in energy is accounted for by their endeavours and accomplishments.

I'd err towards the former, honestly. Fiends aren't granting epic spells, or high-tier effects. At best, their spells mimick a level 3 spell Greater Magic Weapon, and a few lower level dispels and shielding effects.

And to be even more blunt: If the DMs say that a Demon can sign a LE into contract, then it can. Determining the cosmological properties of the world is smething we are allowed to do.

If you go by Fiendish Codex II, it depends on the soul. The soul of a king is worth far more than the soul of a beggar, and a devil negotiating for one or the other will be empowered to give certain gifts depending on the soul's value. At the low end they'd give up some gold, and at the high end, possibly a Miracle spell.

How an adventurer's soul stacks up relative to that is anyone's guess.

Tormak, if you want to make a DM ruling that goes 100% against published lore, knock yourself out. Just don't tell me it's not legitimate to ask for a clarification if that's the case.

Fiendish Codex is Core and not FR. So it's not going against any established lore.

Someone hasn't read the grand History of the Amian Relams where we gave the collective finger to most of the dnD info published after 1373 DR.

Super though, I'd love to see all these pages that say a Demon would care that the person he gave powers to is NE or LE or CN instead of CE.

And I'm not saying, by any stretch of the imagination, the Amia DM's don't have that right. It's your campaign, do your thing.

However...given the effort made to comply with lore in 95% of other instances, I think it's fair to ask about it when you do deviate.

Well, I think 762 has a point here: the person who asked, specifically asked what kind of a fiend (from Hammergrim) would give his Laduguer-worshipping duergar Blackguard powers.

Any fiend can probably give BG powers to any evil aspiring Blackguard, yes.

But we're specifically talking about a god-worshiping one, here.

So the question is: what kind of a servant of Laduguer would come to make a deal with the BG and transfer the god's powers on him?

If you have a patron deity and you actively worship him, I doubt you can get Blackguard powers from any fiend who doesn't serve the same deity. You have nothing to offer, because both your servitude and your soul are already promised to your god. And ultimately, the deity would probably renounce you too for going to a rival source of power.

Demihuman Deities says:
Quote:
Laduguer is served by ash mephits, azer, baatezu, Baku, Dark
Ones, banelar, bone nagas, brain moles, cerebral parasites,
chaggrin, dark nagas, demaraxes, earth elementals, earth elemental
vermin (crawlers), earth mephits, earth weirds, fhorges,
gray oozes with psionic ability, hammer golems, helmed horrors,
hook spiders, intellect devourers, ironmaws, imps, incarnates
of anger and pride, living steel, maelephants, meenlocks,
mineral mephits, observers, razorvine, reaves, rust dragons,
rust monsters, sandmen, shadowdrakes, steeders, stone
wolves, sword spirits, su-monsters, tso, werebadgers, xavers,
and yugoloths.

Pick a powerful creature there, and you're good to go. Some earth-themed baatezu, or a yugoloth?

Planetouched age: I'd go with the base race age, perhaps adding 10% for flavor if you want. It's hardly a key factor, anyway. 3.0 seems to give the same age tables as for the base race, but I recall seeing some more detailed source giving Planetouched their own tables.

A bad one. It's really that simple. But I still think it's okay to do it. At the end of the day, even if the god doesn't agree, your soul probably isn't going to him, it's going to the evil outsider because of your contract. All in all, you have to fear death anyway. Your death is going to be really really bad either way.

The OP didn't mention that he's a divine spell caster so who's to say he promised his servitude and soul to any god at all? Active worship doesn't require promising your soul to a god, iirc.

Well, I suspect "worshiper of Laduguer" means he's your patron. Especially since you're taking a divine caster class, Blackguard. There's no reason to sell your soul to a rogue demon anyway, if you can just serve your god and go to his heaven when you die.

Semantics aside, it's clear the question was about an outsider in Laduguer's service acting on the god's behalf from Hammergrim. He wants to be a servant of the god, and has to contact an evil outsider (obviously in the god's service) to gain that power.

What do you mean, "a bad one?" Do you mean an evil one, or one who serves the god poorly? Doesn't answer the question, though.

I offered a list of creatures serving Laduguer, so it would be one of them.

It's not a free download, so you won't find a legal copy online without paying for it. I imagine it's easy to acquire if you really wanted to, though.

But it's not FR, so don't bother with it, IMO. Dragons of Faerûn is the noteworthy FR book on dragons.

Uh. Damnit. I'm one of those poor students.

Oh well, i bet you can help me easier than cheeze!

I need to know stuff about Half-Dragons.

Does half-Dragons get nurtured at birth, Or are they shunned by their dragon parent?
Can a Male Humanoid inpregnate a Female Dragon? Or must there always be a Male Dragon inpregnating a Female humanoid?

Yes my character the duergar bg actively worships laduguer. In his mind he wants to be a proactive servant of laduguer furthering duergar ways and life. The only problem with that is that if he saw one he wouldn't know the difference between a devil and a demon. The only exception to that knowledge is that he can see the physical manifestation of his own summon when he gets that high.

So when he gets to the contract point if a dm decides to bring a deamon how is he supposed to know? I pose the same question what would a demon gain from granting divine powers to a laduguer worshiping duergar?

Half-Dragons are universally shunned. Metallics tend to leave the young with the non-dragon parent, whereas most Chromatics tend to use them as a good meal, so to speak. Alternatively, use them as toys for personal amusement.

It's never defined. I'd reason that since it's magical, it could go either way.

Been a while since I looked at the Draconomicon, but...

Nuturing probably depends the humanoid parent. Something like a red might breed with say, a gnome, or a elf, because they're interested in seeing what the offspring might taste like, or how good of a servant it makes. To the other extreme, a silver or gold might love their half-breed children much like any "normal" parent. In general, I believe metallics are much more caring about their offspring than chromatics are, especially chaotic chromatics like reds or whites.

As far as gender roles in parenting, I do recall one instance in a D&D novel where you most definately had a male human father and female dragon mother having a kid together. Unfortunately, it was not an FR novel or product.

You can open a Gate to any plane you specify. That is to say, you can get a mage or a priest to open a Gate into Hammergrim, and beseech a servant of Laduguer to hear you.

You don't actually have to RP it in game, but it's a lot more fun if you do. I can imagine any DM will be happy to help you, if only they're not busy.

They don't exist.

It's purely Amia/internet fiction. One NPC in one novel (in the Starlights & Shadows trilogy) was referred to as a deathsinger, which was more of an honorary/nickname than anything else.

Drow bards have no special name, documented tradition or Prestige Classes. The only one is what you find in WotSQ, and that's for female clergy.

I've been saying this for years and double-checked several times, but the rumors and misinformation still persist. :( I wish people would just spread the word and clear this nonsense once and for all.

Not to say you can't make up your own tradition, though. I'd go with the drow equivalent of Bladesinger.

Is it ok to RP as a Human Deathsinger?

I'm using a 1 Fighter/25 Bard/4 Palemaster build to represent the dark nature of the nefarious bards. And that was one of my favorite trilogies by the way. :P

Well, since "deathsingers" don't exist, really, I suppose it's OK to call your human bard a deathsinger.

Indeed! To avoid confusion, you could make up a different name, but either way works.

Note that there are Dirgesingers, which is a bard Prestige Class obsessed with death. Really cool. You could work on that. And "dirge" sounds cooler than "death."

What does counterspelling look like?

When one mage counterspells another, does it look as if the counterspelling mage is mimicing the hand motions of the first, perhaps backwards, and then the opponent's spell just doesn't appear?

Or, in case that every spell can be countered by itself, do both appear and collide or something? I suppose it would only work with projectiles, but always thought it would look classic if a mage casted Fireball and another mage casts it at the same time to make them collide and null the effect.

The counterspelling mage mimics the hand movements and chantings of the casting mage and the two spells cancel each other.

Such a definitive comment and yet: No source!

I would say the style of counterspelling depends on the spell and the counterspeller, just like how magic itself can be given personal flair and touches. The subtle and sly Arcane Trickster may mimic the gestures of the spell backwards and end the foe's spell that way. The grand Simbul of Aglarond may motion her arms and bring forth a mirror image of their spell that neutralizes the foe's upon contact.

I also imagine counterspelling looks different depending on if a Dispel was used, or an exact cpy used, or a specific counterspell used.

My comment has no source either but i gives players more creative freedom with a tiny detail not worth being a hardas over. ;)
