Another Cordor lore question, I am sorry:

Until what age does the Cordorian orphanage raise any whom are in it? (presuming they do not find a family to adopt the individual) Also, what is it like generally for any who lived in the orphanage?

Question regarding half-dragons again...

A half-dragon, who

Quote:
Or by giving into their draconic nature and doing more draconic things to bring out their heritage, I imagine. Like hoarding jewels, traveling to places that are known to harbor their kin, living in such places, maybe even eating the prey that their full-blooded kin do. Such would likely stimulate their dragon blood more, and cause apperances to become more draconic.

I.E., the more they act like their dragon counterpart, the more they begin to take on those characteristics.

And

Quote:
A half-dragon would grow its wings or a tail likely he same way a DD would, however. Either researching their heritage, going through rituals, "focusing" on their draconic side, or just "growing" them over time.

and
Quote:
Anyway, yes, it's likely you can grow it through magic as well. But that's what Dragon Disciple is for, you know? They grow their stuff through rituals and magic. It would make a whole lot more sense, IMO, that a Half-Dragon would grow their dragon stuff through mundane means. I mean, all of the potential is already there and "brought out". Why become a dragon disciple when you're already half-dragon, you know? At that point, you might as well be trying to turn into a full draogn.

and on top of that, takes Dragon Diciple levels...

What would that result in, you think?

Indeed it does. Were it possible for a half dragon to take DD ranks, I'd say exactly nothing would happen - you'd be wasting your levels, only gaining the BAB, saves and HD without all the other bonuses.
Of course, that is the domain of a DM to decide.

Waaait a second. Dragon Disciples enchant the powers that already lie there, dormant. Honest, in my opinion, a half-dragon who further focus in his draconic nature ...

He's gonna be badass!

Does being approved for halfdragon already give you the stat bonuses and the like that RDD would offer?

-Thats why he is asking I assume.

In a half dragon, said powers aren't dormant.

Nah. Just want to see what on earth would happen if a half-dragon would focus in his draconic heritage.

In short, the rules say a half dragon can't be a dragon disciple, so everything else in the domain of speculation. Since the very pinnacle of being a DD is less than what a half dragon is (you gain the stats of a half dragon but don't become one) I doubt one would gain anything.

You can't tke RDD as ahalf dragon. It's explicitly written in the rules.

I don't know any "for sure" on this, but I can tell you what I did with Weston, because I had to RP through that.

I used the basis of age 14/15 when it's being strongly encouraged that this near adult is being prompted at the orphanage to seek out their individuality (this is where it's hitting limits). DnD Lore for adult age human states "15years".

Age 15 is when I had Weston actually required to leave the orphanage.

So when an individual enough adult, they are being promted to leave the orphanage. Small 1-2 year variance by race perhaps (elf, half elf, human age rate differences). Elven standard of adult is 100, but near 16-17 an elf looks comprable to a human adult too.
[[Edited for Correctness]]
----

As for Orphanage life; there is a lot of interpretation for how you suppose the indivudual felt about living/being raised in an orphanage. But visually you can see:

1) Many children are in there
2) Children appear mainly human or half-elf (perhaps)
3) Bedding is all Bunk, by entryway.
4) There is 4 or 5 staff, followers of Salandra - all female
5) Single small Kitchen combined with Dining Table space.
6) One "private" room hallway with 2 couches, between entry and kitchen.
7) Large playroom but clustered with shelves, toys, books, and other misc objects.
8] No signs of proper education space (no desks in classroom fashion).
9) Located in Cordor

From this kind of visual information, I would surmize that the Orphanage conditions are:

1) Limited education across all catagories (Worldly, Locally, Religion, Races, Adventure Skill, Practical Skill)
2) Low/No privacy
3) Crowed or cramped
4) Basic nutrition
5) Good health (As it's Salandran run!)
6) Simple Toys, Worn Books, damaged items... nothing stays new for long
7) Non-fair skin (human, half-elf, elf) children are likely singled out much more.
8] Feelings toward other races likely much more ajacent to that of "Common Cordor Citizen"

15 is adult for humans according to PHB, but I would assume Weston is right about the age of leaving - I doubt they would allow adults to stay.

Beyond our suppositions, though, you'd have to wait for a DM to answer.

15 or so. And Torzeng is mostly correct...with one notable exception:

The life of an orphan at the Orphanage in Cordor has been better than the life of a person living in their own home, under their own roof, in South Cordor for quite some time. Why?

Donations, simple as that. For all the bitterness the people of Cordor harbor towards adventurers, the fact remains that PC adventurers have donated ludicrous sums of money to the Orphanage over the years, and Perseverence is a wise woman. She does not spend the money extravagantly, but rather saves it to continue keeping a good middle-income lifestyle for the children at the orphanage.

They have great nutrition. Their education is basic like Torzeng says, but only because the only people who have expressed an interest in educating them are the caretakers themselves. Governesses, for example, might be hired to work for them, but Perseverence spends the donated money on some more immediate concerns, like keeping them fed and clothed. They even have the benefit of new books and new toys, and they aren't exactly cramped living there, either. They live well. Moderately well, but well, nonetheless, and in a wellness that can be sustained for at least a generation to come with the way Perseverence manages the millions of gold that have been donated to them.

Any dragon color except red/white/blue/black/green, gold/silver/bronze/copper/brass, and Shadow, requires an explicit DM request.

There's only one main river on Amia Island, the one dividing North from South. It's the Nexus River and originates from Nexus Falls and empties into the Trackless Sea to the east. There's a few inlets of water on the other coasts but nothing you'd call a river.

In the Underdark underneath Amia Island, there's a set of rivers collectively referred to as "The Underrivers", and "The Underlake".

In Amia Abroad, the island of Khem is home to the Khalem, the biggest river in the island chain and very reminiscient of the Nile from egypt.

It might exist. It might not. The practice of Oneiromancy, Dream Magic, is a long lost, and in some places, a very forbidden art. It is unlikely that a Dreamwalker has gone into those planes without the aid of sleep, should they exist, for a long time.

Any DM feel free to copy this to an extra post, or wherever these info's are saved for future use. :)

Another question regarding the RDD. How close should the Alignment of the character reflect the Dragon Parents alignment? Within one step. As in LG Dragon -> NG and LN allowed?

This is my personal take, yes. One step, with True Dragon Alignment continuing to exert influence.

They're living mushrooms. They tend extensive fungus farms. That's the basics of it, really.

A few questions regarding magic and the pull on the weave.

On counter-spelling.
As the original casting has no affect when another caster has countered the spell, would it be safe to say that the two castings affect the weave neutrally, as opposed to twice as much (as there were two castings?)

On items; part 1.
Would using an item to use a magical affect, say a faded ball to cast ultravision, for example, put strain on the weave, even minutely? (This includes potions, wands etc.)

On items; part 2.
If part 1 is so, would it be the same for an item with a constant magical affect, say a +2 enchantment, or a magical glow (not from torches, etc)? (This includes things that give ability bonuses)

On items; pert 3.
Same question, but more on some "On Hit" magical affects?

Counterpelling: Probably a reasonable conclusion.

1: Define "Strain". All magic is pulling from the weave on some minute or larger level.

2: No, the magic was expended in creation. Afterwards it's just a static item.

3: It exerts every time the magic effect happens.

Thanks for the swift response, Tormak.

By strain I pretty much mean anything slight. But you pretty much nailed it, any way. Cheers.

Greater Ruin is a spell that utilizes raw magical energy (even more 'pure' than Magical Damage) from the Weave, ICly described as striking an opponent with a strange of the Weave itself.

Which is a rather appropriate metaphor, given the spell does use direct potency and power from the Weave itself, as opposed to merely drawing upon it. Hence the damage against single targets.

Ah, okay, thank you. Didn't know why the Monolith ICly had their tail-feathers in a knot about it; was curious why it was considered so bad. Makes sense now.

When'd that bit of lore get bandied about? Admittedly the ELH isn't much help:

Quote:
Transmutation
Spellcraft DC: 59
Components: V, S, XP
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 12,000 ft.
Target: One creature, or up to a 10-foot cube of nonliving matter
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Fortitude half
Spell Resistance: Yes
To Develop: 531,000 gp; 11 days; 21,240 XP. Seed: destroy (DC 29). Factors: increase damage to 35d6 (+30 DC), 1-action casting time (+20 DC).Mitigating factor: burn 2,000 XP (-20 DC).

The character deals 35d6 points of damage to a single target within range and line of sight. If the target is reduced to -10 hit points or less (or a construct, object, or undead is reduced to 0 hit points), it is utterly destroyed as if disintegrated. Only a trace of fine dust remains.

Seems more like a theory then. Good for rp though.

When you cast the spell, it comes into the combat dialogue AFAIK.

Edit:

*You raise your hands in a most elaborate manner and quite literally fling a wisp of the Weave at your foe!*

Yeah, Kung wasn't known for his... steadfast approach to lore, though, I'm afraid. He simply put in whatever he wanted, sometimes without asking, no offense to the dude. See: Baulg, CR 133 DC 68 dev crit dragon with no fear aura, incredibly slow walking, and an odd magic staff at loot, right next to a CR 12 area.

If it's not true it should probably be removed, then ... I know when I saw it I automatically assumed it to be Amia-canon.

I didn't say whether it was true or not. Just said the source. I don't know how Ruin works beyond being a mega-disintegrate.

Are there any wood elf or wild elf guides around? Like a "How to" topic somewhere or link?

Evermeet is an Elven stronghold island. Yes, at one point the whole island is taken to the Feywild as a perfect copy, but the Toril one stays behind, only it's just the island by itself. It looks to those who arrive as if the Elves just up and left without a trace. I believe this happens up later in the future from where Amia is set, so Evermeet is still inhabited and intact, full of Elves.

I wouldn't say Toril is a reflection of Earth, no. There sure are a lot of things in common with Earth though. About the only thing that I can think of that -is- straight out of Earth is the Mulan Pantheon. The gods are said to have left Earth and came to Toril. Although I highly highly doubt any characters would know that.

As for the Wood and Wild Elves, the old index of Elves went down and I don't have a mirror for it myself so I can't help you much there.

For more information you can look over Evermeet - Island of Elves, Elves of Evermeet and Elves of Faerun. As for online links, can't really help you there.
