Only Shifters and Druids void true sight when they change shapes, if I'm remembering correctly. That is, in terms of classes.

Works for Sorc/Wiz's because as the spells name goes, you are literally changing shape, thus Shape Change. Not just druids and shifters.

A polymorph is magical effect that is seen through by magical alterations to vision I.E Truesight.

Incorrect. True Seeing see's through transmutations. Shape Change is a transmutation, just like Polymorph Self.

Then by that logic it would see through the druids because its the exact same spell.

Druids and shifters aren't seen through. Not up for discussion.

In regular PnP, you would be correct. But, as I said, if I remember correctly, Shifters and Druids remain undetectable through True Seeing in their shapes on Amia because of how common True Seeing is. Shapeshifting is a staple skill for those two classes and if that wasn't a rule, the classes would be heavily cheapened.

It's been like that for as long as I've played here, too. So it's not like it's something that changed while Feo was gone.

But yeah, PnP True Seeing would detect Druids and Shifters as far as I can tell. It is not the exact same spell, though. Wild Shape has different restrictions.

As far as I was informed in those ages yonder that the level 9 Shapechange spell was a shapechange not a magical illusion. In any case this is now wrong so. \o/ *Flashes the more you know star.*

Oh, that could've been. I don't know about Shapechange. But at least Wild Shape's not been detectable by TS, consistent or not. I personally find it odd that TS sees through transmutation rather than just illusions, anyway.

That's homebrew, bear in mind.

The only class which can even gain an elemental form is druid (or shifters) so you're kinda screwed there from the beginning, short of requesting DC items to replicate stuff.

I don't see why you'd have to copy the Prestige Class, you can just use the concept and make do with what you have. A wizard or a cleric of Kossuth specializing in fire should be good enough for the general feel, and then you could later request DC widgets. I don't see why a Druid of Kossuth wouldn't work too.

Isn't that entire Wiki homebrew additions to the game? The index seems to suggest so.

Look at the category the class is in.

"Main Page → 3.5e Homebrew → Classes → Prestige Classes"

:D

Don't bother with dandwiki if I were you. 99% is made up.

Anyways, yeah, druid would give the form, but it seems the point of that class is to give a fire-based melee warrior, not a nature caster.

I don't really know what you mean by "approved", since you can play just about any character concept that's possible within NWN's framework and Forgotten Realms lore, as well as DM approval. It's not like you can't make a flaming warrior just because some money-hungry game designer didn't publish a template for it.

Most D&D products introduce new Prestige Classes. That's one of their selling points. There'll be 4-10 each book, typically. Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and Races Of Faerûn have some very important and central vanilla classes of the Realms. Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide (or one of them; I don't remember which) introduce the basic PrCs, many of which are featured in NWN or NWN2.

d20SRD has the some open content, like core classes and Unearthed Arcana variants:
http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/classes.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/variantClasses.htm

Here's an official list from Wizards, though it might miss some of the latest stuff:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/prc

You can download just about any book if you're willing, or you can ask for specifics here.

Hey ho here's a follow up question - I suspect the PIH / CAR / TB / DR are short-words for different source-books - But which?

Question about shifter forms.

Which forms, if any, break druid vows simply by using them?

As far as I can figure, this would depend on the mechanics of the shifting. Namely, what properties do you undergo, and what do you merely imitate by virtue of taking a shape physically? I'll focus on construct shape because that's what I mainly want to know--do you physically become a construct, with all the arcane goodness, or do you just imitate one by shifting into a perfectly shaped/engineered lump of whatever? Assuming the latter, does the composition affect whether or not the shape is kosher (ie, iron golem is kind of worked metal, so maybe no go, demonflesh is demonflesh, so possibly also no go?)

None, I think. There's some question about how you use them, and some should be treated with more care than others. But I believe the Amian stance has been that in principle, all the forms you have access to as a Druid/Shifter are alright for a Druid/Shifter. Would be some pretty awful game design if that wasn't the case.

The ethical ramifications of shifting into undead, golems or outsiders aren't equivalent of summoning/creating those, in any case. Even if you do become a perfect replica, you still haven't brought someone's remains back from the dead, you haven't raped the earth and imprisoned an elemental, and you haven't brought an alien to your home plane. The real issue with all those isn't so much in their physical form but what other implications their presence has. That's my take, anyhow. It's a difficult issue, and the Druid-Shifter connection in NWN is not ideal for lore-friendliness.

Agreed. It's not the form that will get you in trouble, it's what you do with the form that might get you in trouble.

Question:
I did not know if this question goes into Lore or Requests. But i'm going to take my chances and post into lore, before making a request just in case I need to.

I would like to play a Zakharan Paladin from Al-Qadim , inspired by medieval middle easterns history's Saladin, or Khalin Bin Walid. (Lorewise is this permitted on amia?) I know there is no subrace for Zakharan, so do I just make a generic human pc and make him brown etc and rp him as a Zakharan? or must I make request to play this toon. Thank you kindly for your assistance.

Yep, it's fine. Zakharan is not a race (in the D&D sense), it's just a human ethnicity. I don't know about Zakharan gods and culture though, there might not be paladins or applicable gods. But I guess you'll check the sourcebooks for that.

What would happen to a familiar, especially an intelligent one, when it's master died? Does it die too? Is it simply released to carry on its life? Might it feel remorse or relief depending upon how it was treated?

One of my character's familiars was continuously slapped for a while in my PC's life. I would say it felt some relief. Afterall - They are sentient beings (Most of them)

If a familiar's master dies, it suffers the same lapse of magical investment as if it were dismissed by its master, becoming an utterly normal entity without any of the powers or abilities granted to it by the master. If the master returns from the dead someday, the bond is actually reunited, frighteningly enough for the familiar.

Whether the familiar is mournful or joyous or indifferent to the death of its master depends on the relationship of the master and the familiar. It can be as complicated as normal human-pet relationships or human-human relationships, depending upon the intelligence of the familiar and the player's concept of emotional attachment.

In continuation of my research I have come across the Al-Qadim campaign setting, Lands of fate D&D 2nd Ed. Link is :

is this a valid resource? can I use this as as basis to develop my character background for amia?
thank you kindly.

Yeah. It's not originally FR, but it was merged and that's what you'l want to use. If you notice obvious contradictions with later FR lore, go with the latter. But as far as culture and stuff go, it's the book you want. City Of Delights is another, more specifically about one city I think.

Calimshan is based off of the fantasy notion of the "Arabian Nights", yes. Think Aladdin, his Genie, the 40 Thieves, etc...

Fire and Air Genasi are especially prevalent in Calimshan, and are held in high regard. Slavery is rampant, and it's likely that if all slavery was purged from Calimshan, the entire country would implode on itself due to how reliant it is on it. Tat said, most slaves are "well treated", because they're expensive. Well treated as in, they have food, shelter, and... employment.

Al-Qadim is more true to the Arab world and the Middle East in general -- minus Egypt, since obviously Mulhorand takes care of that -- in that it's not as cheesy and stereotypical as Calimshan.

Oh, and Arabian Adventures is for Al-Qadim.

Thank you all so much for your advise. I've been doing some research for a paladin character concept , and am reading about several things at once.
Not entirely connected to the topic about Al-Qadim. I've been researching the book of exalted deeds, and have found a very interesting character class, the Fist of Raziel. my questions are.

1. If I am going to play an "exalted" character. What will be required of me as a player and a 'exalted paladin' in terms of RP expectations. Would I have a greater responsibility in making sure I truly play a good character in it's extremes? ie. for example not partying with anyone of clear evil image, under ANY circumstance. (ive seen paladins do it just for the ease of parying up at low levels, under the reason of: spying on the evil ones to make sure they dont do anything wrong etc, or following the party to protect the other members from their evil ifnluence/potential betrayal.

2. How does one go about requesting to play an 'exalted' character or prestige class, such as the first of Raziel. and if I need to go about requesting this; if the toons build is going to be mainly paladin with some fighter levels etc, how does one break it down into a first of raziel and paladin. Please note I am not going to ask for any mechanical changes for the toon, to get any advantage etc. *(if anything it would be a disadvantage cause of the sheer restrictions of playing an exalted character, ie. The super straight and narrow path)

3. Is this the right place to ask these questions or should I post this elsewhere instead? ie. requests, or general discussion?

thank you all so much for helping me out, i've really started to enjoy the lore of D&D a lot more through research and in depth character building.

There really isn't too much lore behind them that's explained, save for basic stuff. I'm sure you've checked the Monster Manuels.

Some other books to find small passages on different Elementals are: Manual of the Planes, Planar Handbook, Epic Level Handbook, and Frostburn.

You won't find anything too detailed though. You just kinda have to take what there is and build on it, within reason. ::shrugs::

Salutations to you. After a long time busy with RL things, I'm slowly moving back to Amia. And after conducing a small research I'm wondering how the skill called taunt works here. Does it count as an attack ? Does it get you flat when used ?

To the best of my knowledge taunt hasn't been changed (feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong). I'm not entirely sure what you mean by an attack but yes, its a hostile/offensive action. This should help:

Questions of my own on the spell "control weather"

Part of the description (from D&D wiki) reads:

You change the weather in the local area. It takes 10 minutes to cast the spell and an additional 10 minutes for the effects to manifest. You can call forth weather appropriate to the climate and season of the area you are in.

Season: Possible Weather
Spring: Tornado, thunderstorm, sleet storm, or hot weather
Summer: Torrential rain, heat wave, or hailstorm
Autumn: Hot or cold weather, fog, or sleet
Winter: Frigid cold, blizzard, or thaw
Late winter: Hurricane-force winds or early spring (coastal area)

Would the list of possible weather be a general guideline for the DM involved and hence vary from area to area? It seems a little weird calling down hail in Khem in summer. Secondly, would the caster be aware of what sort of weather they're able to generate or would they have to give it a shot before they know?

It would vary from area to area, and the meteoromancer would simply cast the spell and then see what happens.

Probably depends on the caster and his/her knowledge of nature as well, I'd imagine. And of course, the Druid is the caster who's naturally best at the spell, for obvious reasons.

Gunz, your druid-boner is showing.

Just remember too that a druid might use the spell more reservedly than say a cleric of Talos or destructive arcanist. As a druid, you'd not want to upset the balance of a place by bringing 7 hailstorms out of nowhere when the area doesn't generally get that many. But a Talosian acolyte wouldn't think twice of ripping up a place with as many as they feel will get the job done.

I am also of the mind that the weather depends on the area. Really interesting thing might be to test it out on other planes and witness the weird meteorological phenomenas there. I remember the Azer NPC from Kingmaker saying that windstorms one the Plane of Fire were especially dangerous. Not because of the wind itself, but that the plane has crystal-like obsidian trees, and the trees' "branches" break off and go flying through the air. You essentially end up with something like a tornado of broken glass.

Hypothetically speaking, if a human druid were to use Dragon Shape, turn into a dragon and eat a dwarf, would he have to wait several hours to digest the dwarf before turning back into a human?

Are Hellhounds considered immortal?
