Low strength opponents go down very often. I don't know the math, but it works great when used properly. High strength opponents can go down on a 1, though. It is situational. If you face a 90+ AC, crit immune, dex based pale master/bard/sd, you can force him/her to lie down until you run out of spells.

I could use a little advice. I'm not very knowledgeable outside of bards and clerics, so excuse the newbishness here. Basically, I'm playing a L12 barbarian/ L2 weapon master who uses a greatsword, and doesn't have the highest of AC's (AC 24 at level 14). What I need help with is her survivability. I'm finding it increasingly difficult in level-appropriate areas without a lot of health-kit spamming. Perhaps I am playing her wrong (I know she's not a tank), but still, being an up-close damage dealer requires sustainability. How can I improve this with her? I should also mention that she is very anti-magic (and therefore anti-buff) and would never give up her greastsword for a shield. I feel like even using potions with her is a stretch rp-wise. I was thinking a level or two in Fighter would be great for the ability to wear heavy armor. But having taken my first two levels in WM already, I can't level another class now, without prematurely ending the WM levels, right? Should I just spend her next feat on heavy armor proficiency? Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thank you for reading!

You want Heavy Armor, yes. And especially if you're not using any magic.
I feel like the bearer of bad news here when I say that a character that doesn't take buffs, even potion buffs, will not last long.

The creatures are basically designed with the assumption at certain levels you'll be chugging bulls might, endurance, haste pots ect and have flame weapon ect. so you're shooting yourself in the foot by not at least doing some of them.

Yep, and in case anyone out there is wondering this is because if they were set up to assume no one is enchanted, well, then everyone would stomp them easily XD

Honeydew used 29 Barb levels in her HP calculation. With +12 CON it's only at 994 if I see this correctly. I guess that's when you ask someone to stack Virtue multiple times on you (or Aid). ;) Ts

I think 26 Strength should be the goal and 21 Con, instead of 25 and 22. 1 More damage and AB, versus 30 hp and 1 fort, yes please.. Alternatively you could drop con to 21, leave strength the way it is, and then you can have 3 more dexterity at character creation.
The only thing I really see here is terrifying rage is great for pvp but sucks while just out hunting. Really, it really does. Unless you have an archer or a monk who doesnt mind speeding after everything, Its annoying as all get out.
Your first three feats should be power attack, cleave, great cleave. IMHO. You dont need to take weapon focus til a bit later on. You will be racking up the extra kills and easier xp by getting 4-5 attacks a round with greatcleave versus +1ab early on.

Terrifying Rage I kinda like to have, as then I would have the complete set of all three epic barbarian rages. I'd also like to hit the 1000hp mark with this character. The reorganization of the low level feats is a good idea. Ts_ wrote: Oh, I just noticed ... It doesn't have 1000 HP anyway. Honeydew used 29 Barb levels in her HP calculation. Ts Ah, it is 1004 because I put the 10hp from fighter in with the barb. Though I would like to know if the hp stacks from unyielding rage and mighty rage. As if it does my current caculation would be around 1088 with it, which would allow me to reduce one in con to put for 26str and drop toughness for another feat. Even though I have a girly avatar, a girly forum name and a girly signature, I am a he btw. HP: 1088 Barb: 336 (12x28) Fighter: 10 (10x1) Con: 348 (12x29) MR: 280 (10x28) UR: 84 (3x28) Toughness: 30 ---- 24/4/1 Build:- 1 Regeneration - 1 Saves - 60 HP ( 12, 40, 8 ) + 4 Damage

The True Flambomski wrote: Would this be a feasable Build? Singing Shapes? Hmm, the bard song doesn't really qualify for a lot. It's +1 AB, +2 damage (or minus that with curse song), but it doesn't last long and you don't have enough to curse enemies regularly. A potion of prayer does pretty much the same thing as your 5 levels of bard. I think the following is strictly better and just as shiftery: If you take 5 levels of rogue instead, you get more skill points and sneak damage, which is cool because it helps in all shapes. I would probably only go to Shifter 19, so that you can get another Tumble dump in epic, which is +2 AC. That already means all your enemies are at -2 AB equivalently, which is more than your curse song does, although it doesn't help your friends. However, for a bard: Bard Song really takes off on levels 11, 14, 15 and 16, where the AC bonus kicks in. (Bard 16 gives Mass Haste as a spell, but you can't get there.) If you want to sing, try to get as close to Bard 15 as possible. A Druid 5 / Shifter 10 / Bard 15 should do okay with modest buffing capabilities in and out of the shapes, and every group should be better with someone so generally useful. Of course, then you'll be an undead shifter most likely. (You lack the caster levels for a spell-casting shape, so I wouldn't even try. Maybe one of the more meleeish shapes, but then WIS is wasted as well.) A somewhat compromised version might be Druid 5/ Shifter 13 / Bard 12. It's not spectacular, but it might work with undead shape and the free shifter shapes. The epic wyrmlings are good supposedly, and the epic gargoyle can just stand there and tank and sing. Without needing that much WIS, you'll also have much less trouble with CHA and INT etc, which should make you more useful overall. Add some useful epic fights like Armor Skin or even an epic weapon focus for a specific shape (Mino or risen lord?), and you should do okay. I'd definitely take Lingering Song as well, because it's just one preepic feat and you get a bit more duration out of your songs. Regards Ts

I'm obviously confused about what 'makes sense' here on Amia. This isn't the 1st time I've been drawn into these kinds of conversations...so it must be me. On an island full of half-dragons, half-demons, blackguards who have traveled the length of the world (Tuigans must ALL be evil), and epic-dodging palemasters, I could see where it would be entirely inappropriate to play an Earth Genasi who was raised in Calimshan. I sincerely apologize for the offense. My suggestion on the ogrillon barbarian build would be 26 STR & 21 CON as previously stated. I'd love to meet this character in-game, but I don't know how we'd communicate: I don't speak 'belch & fart'. Make sure someone brings a rope to tie to his waist, also; wouldn't want him sitting in a fire wondering why his skin was turning black...

All genasi make sense for Calimshan as there are genies of every alignment. However, fire and air would be predominant.

I need some advice on trap handling.
Wiki says that only rogues can disarm epic traps, but i find that hard to believe unless there's some kind of mechanism i'm not aware of.
Wouldn't an assassin or master scout with 100+ Disable Trap be able to handle epic traps?

Wouldn't an assassin or master scout with 100+ Disable Trap be able to handle epic traps? NWNwiki specifically says that only rogues may detect or disable traps with a DC greater than 35. I guess that means it is mechanically implemented. How this is implemented (A check for the class? A check for a certain feat or other property given to rogues only in vanilla NWN?), I do not know. By the way, for Set Trap, they don't list such a restriction, which probably makes sense considering that Rangers get Set Trap, but not Disarm. (They do get Search though ...) With the help of a high-level bard you should be able to test this out in-game, even on a newbie character. Regards Ts

Wouldn't an assassin or master scout with 100+ Disable Trap be able to handle epic traps? There is a mechanism, yes. But if you have enough skill points you can still recover(+10 DC) or flag (-5 DC) traps, even if your class is something else.

For a typical spellsword of 24 Wizard/6 Fighter/1 Rogue, would it be smart/stupid/indifferent to exchange Epic Fortitude for a second Epic Spell Focus.
The reason I ask is because currently the build has the following feats (in this order): Luck of Heroes, Extend Spell, Blind Fight, Spell Focus: Abjuration, Maximize Spell, Toughness, Knockdown, Improved Knockdown, Greater Spell Focus: Abjuration, Weapon Focus, Great Fortitude, Improved Critical, Weapon Specialization Epic Weapon Focus, Armor Skin, Epic Spell Focus: Abjuration, Epic Spell: Epic Mage Armor, Epic Spell: Mummy Dust, Epic Fortitude, Epic Weapon Specialization
At character level 10 (Wizard level 10 also) there is an unused Wizard bonus feat. Obviously Luck of Heroes can be tossed out in favor or another SPell Foci, but I'm not sure how crucial the epic feat I selected is.

It's fine. My sorcerer doesn't have Epic Fortitude and still has a silly amount of Fortitude.
Glad to see people using Abjuration, too!
Psst: 23 Wizard/6 Fighter/1 Rogue, unless you've cheated to level 31.

I feel like the bearer of bad news here when I say that a character that doesn't take buffs, even potion buffs, will not last long. Thanks for the honesty. I went ahead and took Heavy Armor proficiency and also equipped some boots (doh!). That has really helped with her AC. She does use potion buffs, but it's where I draw the line. Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, etc, those are no problem. It's just hard to rationalize drinking Misty potions when they turn your anti-magic character bright blue! Also, I shouldn't say anti-magic. More like, anti-arcane magic. And, it's not like she never gets buffed - she just fusses about it Anyways, thanks for helping guys!

Because, you know, good part of those items are of arcane make. Just food for the thought...

Glad to see people using Abjuration, too!
Psst: 23 Wizard/6 Fighter/1 Rogue, unless you've cheated to level 31. Abjuration/Evocation mixed mage is a deadly foe. Vinny used to be focused in both, but had to drop Abjuration for Evocation primarly, but I miss Abjuration at times. Necromancy is a interesting choice for a Spellsword as well, and Divination to; I find to be a good Spellsword focus. Very interesting spells usage and RP opportunitys with both.

I'm probably going to go Abjuration/Divination actually XD Since offensive spellcasting is never going to be the primary focus, I'm focusing more on utility-type foci.

I find it somewhat amusing that you're asking in a build thread if it's worth to drop Epic Fort, a feat which obviously is most useful for pvp, and as a replacement you wish to take ESF:Divination, a feat which will be useless for you build-wise [except making premonition spell better].
Taking three feats in order to benefit from 1 spell only?
Take an ESF which will extend your Mummy Dust man.

He wants to play a Divination focused character. Why sell him off to a completely different school? Mummy Dust lasts long enough without an extended version. He may request custom spells for Divination that make the benefit more than one spell. I'd go the spell focus line instead of Great Fortitude. I never find it in my builds to take save feats. Too many more interesting feats that express my characters better to choose from.

Yep, my full mage has the construct without Transmutation focus and it last way longer than a rest period. So it's not as big of a deal as people make it. Hardly, several other spells benefit from a Divination foci. Also, your comment assumes that this thread is about making your builds stronger for PvP and the like. That is wholly incorrect. This thread is about ensuring your build actually is worthwhile, and as Suney stated there's no need for Epic Fort anyways. Most of my builds I make in here are not made for PvP, as I do not want to take part in it, unless the character is supposed to be in PvP (ie the assassin spellsword I was also making, different build). I actually chucked out Great Fort as well in favor of snagging Craft Wand, something I feel would be highly beneficial to a spellsword (heck, any mage haha). Save feats can also be a representation of your character, as well. But that's personal preference :3

No, i do not imply that this thread is solely for making pvp builds. You ask people here if your build is worthwhile? I'm saying that (apart from custom spells) ESF:Divination is 3 expensive feats you'll use for 1 spell. Maybe you also want to Feeblemind the crap out of things, that would be some serious commitment

ESF Divination also opens up a lot of potential for some really neat custom spells, which, if you're willing to devote yourself to your magic, can be really quite interesting.
