Hello!

So a while ago I started playing my Orog Ralghok. She's meant as a support character, who likes to fight in the second row. Throwing axes seem like a good lady's weapon for an orog. ;) She's not an offensive caster, but I want her to have a strong ranged attack. Also, she will eventually have lots of spell levels full with Heal and Mass Heal.

Here's what I had planned:

Stats (after Orog subrace, which is +2 STR, +2 CHA, -2 DEX, -2 WIS!)
STR 16
DEX 7
CON 14
WIS 12 -> 19 (20 with Great WIS 1)
INT 16
CHA 11.

Cleric 23 / Fighter 5 / Rogue 1 at Level 29 (ECL +1 race).
Alignment: NE
Deity: Luthic
Domains: Orc, Community

Preepic: Cleric 16 / Fighter 4 for BAB 16.
Feats:
Blindfight
Zen Archery, Point Blank Shot
Weapon Focus, Weapon Spec (Throwing Axes)
Called Shot
Extend, Maximize, Silent Spell
Great Fortitude

Epic:
C 17 / F 4: Epic Weapon Focus
C 19 / F 5: Epic Weapon Spec
C 22 / F 5: Epic Spell Mummy Dust
C 23 / F 5: Great WIS 1
C 23 / F 5 / Ro 1: Skill dump

With INT 16 I should have about 5 maxed skills (32) plus 6 more on that rogue level, -4 for having INT -2 at first level before the subrace change. That's ... 162 points. Basically exactly 5 maxed skills at rank 32.

I suppose the mechanically good choices for skills would be:
Conc, Spellcraft, Disc, Tumble, Spot at almost max, and some points shaved off for UMD.

Now, I have a lot of questions ...

First of all, will this work as a ranged character? I know it's not an AA, but I hope that my AB should still be excellent, and the +infinity mighty axes, epic weapon spec and some cleric buffs should add some good damage. (When cornered, I could always switch to melee and not lose too much, I suppose.)
On the other hand, GMW is only +5 AB, and Darkfire/Keen don't work at all on ranged weapons, I think.

I could not fit Rapid Shot with its DEX 13 requirement on this at all, but supposedly there is an item "Hood of the Archer" which has it? Or maybe a DC item in the very long run ... The extra attack at a slight AB cost would be very much appreciated to get some more damage output.

Regarding skills: I want to put a considerable amount of skills into Persuade, so I need to cut back somewhere.

Discipline would be one choice, as I don't want to be a front-liner so much. But Disc 15 (effective around 20), even with +30 gear, seems to be not very useful. So maybe Disc 0?
Spellcraft could be left at 15 for EMD, losing a bit of saves vs spells. (Poor reflex ...)
Spot is optional, but I'm going to be sitting at WIS 32 most likely, so not taking it would be a waste, I suppose. She's also a cartographer, so it would fit. On the other hand, with 32 ranks and no feats, that would mean she could get to about 93 with +50 gear, maybe 95 with an alertness item. Is that sufficient for serious spotting (in slow RP situations at least)? Or do I need to take Epic Spot? (Which would mean no EMD or no EWS and, due to requiring rank 20 in Spot, to take rogue at level 27, lowering Spot skill by -2.) I could also try to squeeze in the non-epic Skill Focus Spot for Great Fortitude.

Do I need UMD and how much? I heard that 15 covers a lot and 25 is sufficient for basically anything on Amia. But is there like a crucial item that I would need it for? That Archer's Hood (if that even exists ...) or spotting gear for example?
If I can get away without UMD, I'd prefer that, as I don't see how it fits her. (Same with spellcraft, actually, it's not her area of interest as a cleric.) Also, does Amia have the secondary UMD-check when casting from a scroll? (DC 25 + spell level?)

I skipped Heal. Yes, it would fit, but I think the spells should cover that mostly, and I don't want to be a doctor.

Re: Epic spells
Can I even take EMD with WIS 18??? I'm going to have WIS 20 eventually to cast it, but the build order in epic is all-weird and, I think, hardly changeable. (In vanilla NWN this works.) Second, what's a good EMD? I don't want the mummy, but a tanky one would probably be helpful for a ranged caster. If I need more damage I could probably just use Gate at CL 23, right? Or should I completely ignore the summon and go for Greater Ruin (requiring more spellcraft again)?

So .. I'm currently at level 17. Some points have already been spent on skills which might not be needed (Disc 14, Spell 20). I could delevel, but my mostly solo-levelling in the UD was quite painful up to now, so I'm reluctant to do that again. But it might be worth it, depending on your comments.

Thanks in advance build monkeys and cows!

Oh, for the build forum's sake: This would be a lot better on a human Cleric 23 / F6 / Ro 1, which has more skills, 1 more feat and 2 more epic feats, and at least as good stats.

Honestly there's no point to have 16 STR for a ranged warrior if your Zen focused. You could reduce it to add to your Wisdom for higher AB, More spells and the like.

Looks cool though!

Re: STR.
Interesting. I started thinking about a strong thrower, because the +infinity mighty is what sets her apart from an archer. Plus the option to be an okayish melee cleric if needed. Right now (in my teens with not-so-great gear), I also really need lots of STR to carry heavy armor + tower shield + 50 tons of throwing axes ...

Reducing STR to 14 (modified) would give me +1 WIS. That would free the Great WIS feat and I would have earlier access to spells. (My spell levels are ahead of my WIS all the time ...). That would indeed be nice.

Or would you reduce STR even further? I don't think WIS 22 (STR 12, with great WIS again) is such a big improvement, and it would be quite a hassle with encumbrance ...

Thanks
Ts

Oh, now I think I remember why I took STR 16:

The Great WIS is a Cleric bonus feat and there's only two things in there I could need: Armorskin or Great WIS. So the STR 16 was basically a trade +1 dmg and a bit more melee vs +2 AC.

AC is really nice, but even without Armorskin I have basically standard tumble tank tower shield AC (with the Orog +2 dodge AC), so I decided against Armorskin.

Well I'd suggest, but I'm not good with Clerics. You reduce your Strength to 13, but get Strength gear and Wisdom / Con gear. Reducing your strength to 13 you can get Power Attack. Place the last few skills in Charisma, then get Divine Shield / Might. Which you'd have to remove two feats. I'd suggest Silence being unless your going Silence Spell I / II / III, it's also practically useless. Being you'll be stacking most of your spells in Extend and Maximize. Which leaves you to one last Feat. I'd suggest Great Fort because you can replace what it gives you with a Cloak of Fortification tier four. +4 AC / +4 Universal saves. That way you can get a bonus damage, Divine, from Divine Might and some additional AC for X amount of rounds dependent on how much Charisma you stack in.

Hey,

Silent Spell is supposed to shift Earthquake to Level 9, which is otherwise mostly devoid of good spells. I don't know (yet) if that's true, but I read it somewhere on the forums. It also works with Heal, Mass Heal, which is nice, but I actually won't need it, because I already get Mass Heal on two levels. (Unless I want three levels full of Mass Heal ... Hmm. :)

The Divine Might/Shield route ... Yes, it would add some damage and increase the maximum damage if by including a second buffable ability in the calculation. But it would require 3 feats (dropping Great Fort, Silent, and what else?) and would lower my permanent damage for some temporal damage. I'm already skimping on feats, and there is hardly anything left to remove. (I don't have Improved Crit, for example, though a 20/x2 weapon is bad for it anyway ...) I could do just Divine Might (no Shield), but that seems even worse.

Clerics are feat-starved anyway and the ranged combat doesn't help with that either ...

But I appreciate your comment! I could lower CON to 12 and start with STR 13, CHA 16, making Divine Might a bit better. That might be worth it. (I would still have to decide between Called Shot and Divine Shield, I suppose ...)

Okay, I just reached my critical level 27 ... And the build is possible!

The critical question was: Can I take Epic Mummy Dust with only WIS 18 or do I need WIS 20? But WIS 18 is good enough (and probably any WIS)!

Now I still have another level to decide what EMD variant I actually want to use once I can cast it ...

You must have 20 in your caster stat (so, WIS, for this build) in order to take any epic spells.

Uhh, I just wrote that I reached that level and clicked through level-up (except that final OK). The feat is there and can be chosen.

I just wanted to point that out because that is such a corner case that even high-profile builders have contradicting guesses ...

If you want to take a useless feat, you always can I guess! You won't be able to use it though without 20 base casting stat. (or shouldn't be able too)

Well, I will have base WIS 20 on level 28 with this build, so then I will be able to cast the epic spell. It's just that with the ECL, I won't have another chance to pick an epic spell, so I had to pick the epic spell feat on level 27 already.

It's weird, I admit it. ;)

In that case, it probably works then!
